This man was ahead of his time. One of the very few trainers in general that used resistance bands during compound lifts. This method may have been normal in the powerlifting world, but when it came to training in other sports, rarely used.
he was incredibly strong even by today's standards as a raw lifter, probably would have been considered one of the goats if it wasn't for his injuries.
@ Alex you can't doubt it. It's literally written into the record books and you can go check it. Louie was in the world's top ten in his twenties thirties forties and deadlift was in the top ten in his fifties not sure about his other lifts at that point. He is one of the most underrated lifters going and at one point was only number two in the world because of Ed Coan. He totalled elite and featured in top tens for 3 weight classes which is also unusual.
Whenever I watch a louie simmons video I can hear him say "when I die westside barbell will die". If you ppl haven't already order the conjugate method books, you better before it's to late...
@@LambeauLeeeper his books are westside barbell. To my knowledge there isn't a warehouse of his books ready to ship. It's like a mom and pop shop. When he dies who will ship the books? If he doesn't want the gym to exist after he passes, what gives you the impression he wants to keep his website running?
It's by the band Pro-pain. Not sure exactly the song but every album they have kicks ass. I'm guessing that song was on one of the albums from the mid 90s
This is dynamic effort. It's only 50-60 percent of their max and 25% in band tension. You really shouldn't be failing doubles and triples with 75-85%. That being said, it's a box squat, so the other guys there help you out of you have to sit back on the box.
He did, but in reference to sled dragging, they would do light sets to warm up on dynamic squat days. Immediately after he says he will come back for an evening workout to drag some more before more reverse hyper and abs.
Really want to know why Louie is always rocking the Seahawks hat. I’m a die hard hawks fan but curious if he trained a player or had a good relationship with the strength staff or just liked the team! I need to know!
@@facundozapata7364 I mean they were only the some of the strongest guys in the world at that time but hey there’s always someone on the internet that knows better
The only use for box squats is putting you in the correct bottom position. Sit in a chair then stand up. Watch your form as you so. Then do THAT when you squat with chair under you. Your squat will explode.
I think if average joes did them like these guys it would break our spines in half. They hit the box extremely hard it cant be good on your back. Im sure if you hit the box soft as possible and then reverse it, it would be fine to do heavy if you can do it pain free.
The way they are doing them (chest out ass out) and touching the box mostly with the hams keeps the spine safe. That being said I flinched at the rolling backwards on the box some were doing.
Westside barbell is quite possibly one of the absolute worst gyms for powerlifting in the history of powerlifting. If you want to be injured on a weekly basis, have the absolute worst technique and not ever do a full rep, then westside is for you! Their presence in the powerlifting world is a major reason the public has not got behind the sport! Absolutely horrible training methods, techniques and attitudes towards lifting!
@big daddy you cant say slamming down on a wooden box is good for your spine...Simmons head is so far up his ass. Thats why hes so short, didnt you know?

Thank god some real training footage is around. Love learning about all the westside methods and conjugate style right now. Thank you as always. ☘️
