  • Today we take a in depth look at the klingon Kron Class destroyer. taking over the role of monitor from the K'tinga, and making use of modern technolgies and design techniques from the Vorcha and Negh'var in a smaller more compact spaceframe. but does this smaller destroyer stand out next to its larger cousins?
    Special thanks to Captain Ben Sisko from the Armada 2 Modding community.

    So the Kron is the Klingon "Run and Gun" sniper. It would have been quite a boon if it was in the war earlier & in greater numbers.
    And to be fair to the Negh'var, while a vanity project, at least it didn't have the Yamato/Bismark-type mistake like the Hutet.

    I do liked the lore about the Kron class and how it fits in Klingon Fleet Battles in Dominion War.
    However, this is just me, but I think I spotted a rear torpedo launcher in the middle of the four impulse engines at the rear of ship at 10:32 of the video, so it gives the Kron class three forward torpedoes launchers and one rear torpedo launcher.

    I still think he's too hard on the K-ting-a. The empire already had lots of them; they were of a typical, presumably time-tested Klingon layout; and, it seems to me that if you retrofitted them with the best possible technology (in as many areas as possible), and, attached some ablative armor to their hulls, they'd make for formidable assault-groups or close-in defense-groups. [and, if you were still around after their initial assault, they could 'wave goodbye to you' with their aft torpedo-launchers after they'd passed-you-by]

    It's unclear if the idea of retrofitting the Class has been previously discussed. However, it seems like a good option, given that the Klingons have been doing it with the Bird of Prey for many years. The K'tinga used to be the flagship of the Empire, and it's likely that they would reuse and upgrade its hull and sensors, similar to how Starfleet did with the Constitution and Miranda classes. It doesn't make sense to discard such a venerable and legendary design.

    While the Kron seems like a fine ship and is it better than a 100 year old design, I certainly hope so. Should it have been built designed and built sooner, without a doubt. Look at the real world navies in WWII ships that were very old and should have been sent to the breakers were brought back into service (early destroyers). They were both used for the same reason, they needed the numbers.
    Was the Negh'Var a vanity project or a project that was needed but rushed into service before it was ready, the Prince of Wales still have construction workers onboard during the hunt for the Bismarck and look at the German Panther tank as well? And I can see the that ship being given too much priority but the Romulan D'deridex warbird had just shown itself. And I could see the B10 battleship going into service with the larger house fleets and the Negh'Var keeping them inline as well.

  • @Psych1_-
    @Psych1_- 6 місяців тому

    The Klingon fleet reminds me of the Russian military. The focus is on quantity over quality. Throw enough ships, and warriors at an enemy until they are defeated. Their ships may be superior but they lack the numbers which means in a long and drawn out war they eventually lose. This may work against the Federation, or Romulans but the perfect counter to the Klingons is the Dominion. Their cloned soldiers, and ability to crank out ships like crazy means they fight like the Klingons but are better at it.

  • @trekwars5400
    @trekwars5400 9 місяців тому

    Is there any chance that they came up with this ship later because they didn't have the technology. What I mean by that is you know advancements in technology get smaller and does the same job maybe they didn't have the small version of the big gun to even build this till later on.

    Kron is a cool little ship.
    A much better Monitor then K'Tinga was, not that it's hard to be K'Tinga was a century old, but it also became somewhat Defiant like when it's going for those close in strikes.
    It's able to bring heavy hitting firepower in at close range, which a B'Rel typically can't do. It's a combination that nothing else in the KDF could do.
    But I feel like your commentary on the K'Tinga is a little off balance.
    It certainly was an outdated ship that should of been replaced, much like Miranda or Excelsior.
    But unlike Miranda an Excelsior, the KDF put more effort into giving it an appropriate backline role, and it's not the fault of the K'Tinga if 6 BoPs can't intercept some fighters well enough for the K'Tinga to finish off.
    I don't really accept the Fire control system example either, especially since in space all motion is relative.
    I'll also add that the battle of DS9 is a bad example to use to assess the strength of the Klingon fleet. Ask yourself, Who was giving the orders to the fleet? Hint; Not Gowron.

    • @ldl1477
      @ldl1477 9 місяців тому

      The two reasons I've heard:
      1-the power generation in the back of the ship gives off radiation so the majority of the crew sleep up in the front far away
      2-the long & skinny neck is a weakness. Therefore, its more dangerous to turn away from an enemy, and less dangerous to head directly at them. This should fit well w/klingon ideology, where cowardice is rewarded with an enemy broadside.

      The early design philosophy came from the idea that keeping modules separated was a crucial safety measure; later on, the usual idea was that once your shields were down, any shaped ship was screwed.
