@@marcusramey4862 Steve McNair personally told me he never paid attention when the other offense was on the field until he saw Barry & would say come on tackle him it is only one man!!! Then he said if he ran behind the Dallas offensive line they never would have to throw the ball. Barry would have over 2500 yards per year rushing & over 30 TD's per year.
I watched a show about the Dallas game and the lineman said don't chase Barry. He said to just wait because he will be back around shortly. This is one of the few players that I wished would have gotten a SB.
First, these are just "50 Barry runs". Some of his best were for 15 yards. Second, I didn't wait to watch the Lions game, I waited to watch "The Barry Sanders Show".
Barry crossed people over like it was basketball. Also, if you notice he was horse collar tackled a lot in that video, that's illegal now. If Barry played now he would have had even more yards and TD's because they were horse collaring him back in the day to stop him. If Barry didn't retire when he did he could have broken every rushing record there is. Many people have him as the GOAT running back even though he never won a ring. He was a human cheat code.
That's because Barry was shackled with the shittiest team in the NFL! The Lions haven't won a Super Bowl since 1957. I'm from Michigan and Barry got a bad deal from the head office to begin with. He was to that better players would be gotten around him. Like he was going to be the core but year after year would billionaire Ford family cough out enough money. But they did the same with Calvin Johnson.
Barry was rarely the fastest guy on the field but he could hit top speed in 3 steps and could corner on a dime and give you change greatest RB ever imo
Sander's skillset was special. One of kind. Any era. Any 10 guys on his team. He is gonna stand out every time he suits up. He was truly Michael Jordan kind of special. And i say that after he destroyed my favorite player's ACL and quite possibly cost us a championship. (Rod Woodson, Steelers) Great player.
Rod Woodson a Hall of Fame defender was inches from Barry had a clean and ez tackle and never ever touched him, just air and a blown ACL is what he had for his effort to stop Sanders.
One thing he was so good at that got overlooked by all the things he did was the ability he had to shift the ball to the other hand. He literally did this while in his moves. If that doesn't tell you how great he was above the rest, than nothing does!!! This is probably the main reason he didn't fumble that often. Players could learn alot just by watching him
Barry Sanders is incredibly kind and humble. Spoke to me for a few minutes at an event. Walter Payton "Sweetness" is his favorite running back. They say he's 5' 8" but that may be generous.
I used to love to hate this man! What these clips don’t show you is how often he would turn a 3 yard loss into a 5 yard gain! What a great running back 👍
While I agree with your take, I hate that we also have to consider how many 1-2 yard gains he turned into -6 or -7 yard losses… It is a fact that he is one of the all time leaders in negative yardage carry’s. He’s still the GOAT tho
Your reactions are priceless. Am much older than you fellas now, but saw Barry in his prime. It was pure joy to see this man play the game even when he was giving my team an ass kicking. Best running back I have ever seen play the game in my 60+ years on earth.
I think the most overlooked statistic in Barry's career has to be this. 3062 career rushing attempts with only 22 lost fumbles. That stat is amazing, but when you take in account his running style, how many times he was hit in the backfield, and that every defense played 8 or more in the box against him, it just makes even more unbelievable. Plus that NFC Central division (as it was called in the 90's) was known as the black and blue division because of how good the defenses were.
Best running back I've ever seen play. He would own every record in the books if he had any kind of an offensive line in Detroit, and hadn't retired so early.
🎯 The Greatest Runner ever. We used to say Handing Barry the ball on 3 and 20 is a Good play. He used to lead the league in negative runs and still lead the league in rushing because his line was Horrible 🤯
If Barry Sanders played behind a line like Dallas had, you would have never head of Emmett Smith. We're talking two thousand yards a season. Guaranteed. I saw him get yards on plays where the whole defensive line was in Detroit's back field. He probably has more negative yardage plays than any other primary RB in history and he is STILL the only back to have averaged a hundred yards a game for his career!
If u watch Barry college Ok. st highlights, he had O-line like Emiitt Smith in Dallas. Every time he gets 4 or 5 yds up the middle, damn near turned into a TD. it would def not be any comparison if they played with equal talent around them in NFL. MY GOAT
Quickness and a low center of gravity in game of tall guys. I never saw a guy who could make such sharp cuts at full/near speed. He’s the GOAT for sure.
That was fun watching your jaws drop nearly as far as mine dropped the first time(s) I saw this. Yea, the NFL should have made some under the table deal to get him on a championship team. Here's a Barry fact, though, that is insane: he had 884 carries over three seasons and only SIX (6) fumbles! That's as nuts as Wilt never once fouling out of an NBA game!
He would have had all the rushing records but he left early while in his prime. He saw what was happening to other players and decided to leave while he was relatively healthy.
Barry’s quads allowed him crazy lateral moves alongside elite vision and agility. Saquans legs with Kick returner ability between tackles. Spins jukes cuts today’s elite players might have mastered one of those and we call him a beast. Barry was all of it on the worst team in the league. Every handoff looked like a draw play . Him and Deion were my favorites as a kid
Play Number 1 is the Greatest Run of all Time. I never get tired of watching it. What a shame they got slaughtered the next week against Washington in the NFC Championship. That was as close as Barry got to the Super Bowl.

They keep talking about Barry's speed. It was an illusion. He was SLOW! He created so much separation with his elusiveness, he'd get people's feet in the wrong place, then accelerate away and create a huge gap heading into the secondary, looking really fast while he did it. Then, 40 yards later, Barry would get caught from behind. He has more 80 yard non scoring runs than anyone in NFL history.
