I'm from Detroit. This could have been a top 150 plays video, no lie. Watching Barry was like watching a magician do up close magic. You need to check out his Heisman season highlights. I think Barry broke someone's pelvis in one of the highlights.

Barry could have had at least 7 thousand more yards easily, he’s the Michael Jordan of backs
    1 Barry
    2 Walter Payton
    3 Eric Dickerson
    4 Earl Campbell
    5 Emmit Smith

Two other great things to love about Barry Sanders. He could have moved to any other team who may have won a superbowl .. but he stayed in Detroit because his family was settled and kids in school. Somethings are more important than money.
And I remember him once saying that the way he became so good at football and escaping tackles is because he learned flag football first. And, as he said, if they can’t catch your flag, no way can they tackle you.
I’ll always love Barry. And I’m not even an American Football fan. (Premiere League Football (soccer).

I agree. These are not the best runs. The skill Barry had was that he would get stopped at the line or even behind the line multiple times a game but then he would erupt. Three defenders would converge on him and go down and you think Barry is down but he would squirt free, make another two guys miss and gain 15-20 yards. Rinse and repeat. Barry could change direction with a quickness then get so low that the defenders were tying to tackle him where he was a half second ago. When Barry did score he would just hand the red the ball. Like Paul Brown used to say, “act like you’ve been there”. Class act too. My vote for the GOAT.

These ARE NOT the top 50 runs by Barry. There's many not included here. These are great but some wizardry involved 15 yard gains that had no business being positive yards. Also, many 'tackles' here were horse collar tackles - that rule hadn't come into affect during Barry's years.

Facts! Man would run for 50 yards to gain 5. And he would do this multiple times weekly. Barry is easily the greatest running back ever. If he played behind the line Emmitt had, he would of had another 2 or 3 thousand yards playing the same amount of years.

There are so many instances of him going back and forth across the back field with his O line owned and he’s just dusting people trying to find something… running 60 yrds to end up with 1 or a 1 yr loss… those are the real ridiculous plays.

@@michaeldjguardianmeans6281 I remember one specifically with Buffalo. You swear he's down - but he's not. I think he only managed to get back to the line of scrimmage - maybe a yard gain, made half their team miss him in the process.

Barry got to full speed and full stop quicker than anyone on the planet could. There were faster people who could eventually catch him on very long runs. Four steps to full speed, two steps to stop, makes you very hard to catch.

  • @yoinkhaha

Barry Sanders never once missed a Pro Bowl. He AVERAGED over 1500 rushing yards a season. He only had one season with under 1300 rush yards - the season when he was out for 5 games. Some seasons he was the best football player any position, period. He won league MVP as a running back with over 2000 yards. And his o-line was not good. Best RB all-time, not remotely close. The proof is in the footage.
*puts Barry Sanders throwback jersey back on*

Lions have a history of wasting the best players. Arguably one of the best WR’s of all time is megatron (Calvin Johnson) and they did nothing with him either - and he pretty much quit the same way Barry did w/ about the same amount of time in the league.

My top 5 is 1. Barry Sanders 2. Walter Payton 3. Jim Brown 4. Eric Dickerson 5. is a tie between Adrian Peterson or Emmett Smith. I got to live through the Barry Sanders/Emmett Smith era and there wasn't even a question when they both played of who was better. It was only after Barry retired that Emmett was the best running back in the NFL. And if Barry would have played 15 seasons (like Emmett did) instead of just 10, at the pace he was on, he would be the NFL's all-time rushing leader BY FAR. It wouldn't even be close.

These are in no way his top fifty runs! I'm only six runs in, and #48 and #44 have no business being included in his 50 greatest runs! And know there are many more that shouldn't be included, and a whole poop load that have never made any highlight reel. Example some of his craziest runs that made all kinds of ppl miss were for losses. It seems in this video they had to include touchdowns even if the run was tame which is bull pooh. A run for ten yards and a score doesn't make it better than a run for no yards but made all kinds of ppl look stupid.
Another thing is when he played in the throwback uniform, he seemed even more super hero-ish.

I made a comment on another reaction to this video about how, despite his numbers not showing it because of his earlier retirement, there's a strong argument for him as the GOAT. Got a response saying he never will be because of numbers and the weird way he retired lol. Not sure how you can watch this gut and not put him in the convo.

funny how your top 5 doesn't have the actual RB GOAT, Jim Brown. (And I say that as a Lions fan.) The numbers don't lie. 12312 yards rushing in 118 games, 9 time pro bowl 8 time all pro, lead the league in rushing 8 years out of 9 played. only guy in NFL history to have more than 100 yards a game and 5 yards per carry over a multi-year career (Barry had that until his last year.) Still the all-time leader in yards/game. It pains me to say it, but Barry is #2

These clips are against HOF defense with a team with no OLine. He broke every rule you're taught as a RB. "DON'T STOP YOUR FEET."
Detroit was so bad that the other team only had to stop him. They did. They beat him up, but he would have these plays regardless. He wasn't even the fastest guy. He had field presence. He knew the field and who or if they could help.
He was the Barry Show. I hated it for him. Arguably, the most elusive in history.

Hard to rate a No.1. Why? They are each HOF'rs. So many categories, such as cut-backs, overall speed, power, etc...Barry is an easy No. 1 for cut-backs. Dorsett had more speed. Then you have Dickerson (speed and power). Csonka was all power. Also Bettis for power. Payton has to be 1st or 2nd all-time. Many more ...
