Lyrics and chords:
A
Oh, father, dear father,
….....…….. D …………..........….. A
Why are all the fields so green?
Oh, no, my son. Oh, no, my son,
….... E7
Its not the way it seems.
….. A
In our dear land from end to end,
…….. D …….................……….. A
But sometimes seldom shows,
In every field of Ulster soil
…..... D ….....………. A
The orange lily grows.
Chorus:
…………........… D
The fields of Ulster,
……….......……. A
The fields of Ulster,
…………………..................………….. E7
The good Lord ploughs and sows,
…...… A …...…. D
The fields of Ulster,
……………........ A
The fields of Ulster,
……......……. D ……......……. A
Where the orange lily grows,
That sacred flower in darkest hours
The emblem of our faith
Was worn across the centuries
By Ulster soldiers brave.
Its petals spreading far and wide
Until the whole world knows
In every field of Ulster soil
The orange lily grows.
Oh, father, dear father,
Take heart and be of cheer.
I'm off to join that gallant band,
The Ulster volunteers.
For as long as Derry's walls still stand
And the River Boyne still flows
In every field of Ulster soil
The orange lily grows.

@Tristan Ní fhaca me a ríomh lilí oráiste in Uladh, ach is amhráin deas é ar a laighaid... Fair dinkum Raymond, that's another one from cousins' side of the family I've never heard before. Sounds good.
Thanks for another stirring rendition Raymond, all the best.
You're welcome, Dan.
Good stuff again Raymond! The lilies you'd normally see in Ulster have white flowers, orange pollen and green leaves. Funny that.
Thanks for the information, John. I always thought lilies were white too!
Here in Canada for 175 years the Orange Lilly has been closely connected with the Orange Order. They bloom bright Orange the first-second week of July and coincides with Orangeman's Day, The Glorious 12th of July. They are also revered as they are very hardy! Like most flowers Lilly's come in a multitude of varieties and colours, over 90 in a quick Goggle search.
@@Sacrifice-Loyalty Aye, I wikipedia-ed them myself after I wrote that and found out they're a real thing. Never seen them in Ulster though, and I'm from here. Not a fan of lilies generally to be fair. They tend to remind me of death.
@@Sacrifice-Loyalty Happy 175th birthday by the way!
@@JohnCraig007 are you blind? I see them everywhere during the summer.
I feel like marching! Great song, Raymond!
Thanks for listening, Jack.
Well done chords please
