Derek Jeter is a hero, not just for the way he played the game, but for the way he handled himself both on and off the field. He made a name for himself in the history of professional baseball and will never be forgotten. Goodbye captain. We forever salute you.
As a Phillies fan the 2009 World Series was a disappointment when we loss to the Yankees, however, even thought Phillies loss, I still have great respect for Derek Jeter. He is the true definition of a baseball player and what all athletes should be. He said he didn't do anything criminal because he didn't want to embarrass his family and friends and to say he got to play both his dreams at the position and play for the Yankees is a true inspiration. Much RE2PECT to the Captain. It was an honor and privilege to see you play Mr. Jeter, enjoy your retirement
Any Baseball fan, regardless of what team they support, who cannot realize that Derek Jeter is one of the best Baseball players of all time, is not a fan of Baseball.
I'm not even a baseball fan. I said baseball not MLB all of baseball. I mean I barely know what an inning is (if I even spelled it right) but from what I've seen and saw from a couple of videos, he is a great player, person, etc.
Goodbye Derek Jeter (#2). You are truly one of if not the best baseball players. But not just in Yankee history, but in all-time baseball history, and for that I want to thank you for everything you have done for me and every Yankee fan out there. You inspired me to play baseball and I will not forget the memories I've had cheering you on and playing the game for myself. Once again Thank you Derek for all that you gave. The players, stadium, and fans will miss you. #Re2pect
Agree 100% And when he gets elected to the Baseball Hal of Fame, I am going to be there. I need to get some Yankee shirts. Derek Jeter, you are simply the best (last song after his speech).
I remember watching this ceremony and being most impressed that after everything was done, and despite having a game to play, he circled back onto the field to thank every single person who came out to honor him during the ceremony including all the former teammates, family, etc. If you remember, his last game was supposed to be rained out. I was living in LA still mourning the death of my father. I had promised my dad we'd go to the game. I flew on the redeye to NY despite MLB's concern about weather predictions which were 100% rain by 9pm. I also didn't have a ticket to the game when I landed in NY. I finally found a pair online and my best friend and I went. When the Orioles tied the score, I realized Jeter would get one last at-bat. Pure magic. O Captain, our captain. Thank you DJ
What can anyone say about you, that hasn't been said already. You were, you are ,and you always will be ,my favorite Yankee ,may God-bless you always... You brought an awful lot of joy, to an awful lot of people... And you did it all with such class.... Love, And respect always....❤💙💛💚👍👍👍👍
Wow it's still not sunk in that this man... this athlete .... Will not don the pinstripes next year. He is in my book The Greatest of All Time and will for ever be my favorite athlete!
Hands down my favorite athlete of all time it was an honor watching his entire career and getting to see him play live in both old and current Yankee Stadium. Definitely deserved to get in the H.O.F on the first ballot.
I don't think there could've been a more deserving player to have this ceremony in his honor. Derek is a throw back to the old school players of the 40s & 50s, where winning was everything! Watch Jeter throughout his whole career, was like my dad as a kid watching Mickey Mantle & Yogi! Miss the old teams of the 90s & 2000s, all those guys- BTW, class act on Paul Oniells part, the first of the players coming out of the dugout to acknowledge Derek's family, the Warrior, the man!
I've been a life long Yankee fan, thank God I was able to see Derek & Mo play they're whole career in Pinstripes!! Jeter was the ultimate teammate & competitor. The closest person I can compare to him as a Yankee, is being a kid watching Mickey Mantle play in the 50s & 60s.
I just wish I could see 1 more game with my favorite Yankees lineup: Jeter, Brosius, Knoblauch, O'Neill, Martinez, Posada, etc., all these guys from the late 90s, when Yankees won a few World Series in a row... Those were the first baseball games I watched with my grandpa and that's how I became a Yankees fan when I was 13.
When I watched with My Grandpa the players were Dave Winfield, Willie Randolph, Elvaro Espinoza, Dave Rags, Donnie Baseball. They were horrible in the 80's but I would sit there with My Grandpa and watch WPIX and listen to "The Scooter" call the games. Still the best days of my life, even tho the didn't win, I was with My Grandpa. My fav. player to this day is Steve Balboni, big ole white guy that when he got a hold of the ball it went far, but he usually struck out, lol...Go Yanks...
Yankees should let him own the franchise. And give him a statue period. He was the reason,NY Yankees was championship material by him.20 years of greatness
The first time I saw Derek Jeter play live in Chicago (White Sox fan, btw), he hit one of his signature opposite-field home runs in the first inning, right in my direction. That ball got out in a hurry, too. One of the best in the game at hitting those.
I’m a Cubs fan and not a fan of the Yankees. Anyone who doesn’t recognize Derek Jeter as one of the all time greats is a fool and only kidding themselves. He was a class act on and off the field. He played the game the right way. He did so much for the community. He was the face of baseball, rightfully deserved. He was a pleasure to watch. #Re2pect
Seems like Matsui is a cool dude, he always gets called out at other people retirement days. Like at Mariano rivera, Jorge Posada, andy pettite ceremonies etc....
Godzilla was always a cool dude even when he came over from Japan and their was a language barrier, he had a way of connecting with New York that made him special. Even when he left to go other clubs at the end of career when he came back he was always cheered for with ovation.
What a wonderful example of what it means to be a Yankee! I remember one game my family was at and we were right down behind home plate and Jeter was in the on deck circle with some dirt on the back of his pants. My wife says “I’d like to wipe the dirt off his pants “ I jokingly said to go ahead and you’ll have some nice silver bracelets (handcuffs)” she said it’ll be so worth it! 😂😂😂😂 Love ya Jeter!!
i wish derek jeter knows that my and my friend are the biggest jeter fans and read all the books about you alll the movies and shows and im happy he got what he wanted
I remember watching this live. Like it was yesterday. I was kinda mad that pettitte didn’t get anything like this at all also. I love jeter, as a Mets fan but still
Haters.....that's what he means to New York fans. Now if other teams do not want to recognize their players. That's on them. In my lifetime I have not seen a better Yankee. There has been great ones. But in my generation he's the best. Greatest baseball team ever.
nice day. reminded me a little of mickey mantle day, back in '69; they should have had derek ride around the stadium in a golf cart at the end, so he could have waved to the fans...
This guy has been the most Popular man in baseball for over 16 years. Being Multiethnic, he helped to start the whole mixed beautiful Eyed man movement. years before Michael Ealy, Jesse, Williams, Shawn Newman and Willy Monfret. Women want him guys want to be him.
Jeter is a class act and one of the last that will ever be that with the way that professional sports are going, but what about Paul Konerko? He plays for the White Sox who do not get the press and have not been in the World Series over and over. He has great stats, has been with one team, and played for 20 years. There are others who are class acts, but are not in NYC or in the playoffs all the time so don't get the glory that Jeter does by being in a big market. He also did not announce his retirement at the beginning of the season so could get accolades throughout the year at stadiums. Jeter is one of the greats and deserves the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, but the workhorses who do not get recognition, but have great careers also deserve it.
I agree with you, Paul Konerko is highly underrated, but I’m gonna be honest with you, I think only people from Chicago care about Konerko, or the white Sox
O si Jeter mis respeto para tremenda persona y pelotero nunca se le conoció nada negativo? THE BETS OF BETS??? MI CAMPO CORTO Y Ozzie ??? 🇵🇷✌Yankees de corazón???
Best to Derek Jeter. Will this crazier baseball business allow a successor to him. And some lucky lady out there will be Mrs. Jeter according to his interview with NBC's Brian Williams.
I've been a Yanks fan since I was a kid in the 60s, and I have much respect for Jeter, but I have to admit that I got a little tired of hearing about Jeter's retirement, Rivera's retirement, more Yankee numbers being retired, more plaques...yada yada yada. A little too sugary and a bit much. I miss bombastic George !
Derek Jeter is a hero, not just for the way he played the game, but for the way he handled himself both on and off the field. He made a name for himself in the history of professional baseball and will never be forgotten. Goodbye captain. We forever salute you.

Agree 100%
And when he gets elected to the Baseball Hal of Fame, I am going to be there. I need to get some Yankee shirts. Derek Jeter, you are simply the best (last song after his speech).
Yes, you did spell inning right.
I think that Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera got this treatment in every stadium in their final series. And both deserved it!
He is the best of all times! Glad I got to see him in action...
I remember watching this ceremony and being most impressed that after everything was done, and despite having a game to play, he circled back onto the field to thank every single person who came out to honor him during the ceremony including all the former teammates, family, etc. If you remember, his last game was supposed to be rained out. Incredibly special day. Honored to be on the field pregame with my 3 sons.
Wow all my favorite Yankees I feel like a kid again I'm 53 now it was a privilege to see all of them play. Pinstripes for ever

I am no yankees fan , but jeter is amazing in so many ways and he deserves a 40 minute ceremony
Anybody seen how his nephew tip the cap when he came out , So sweet ❤️
I was there! Yankees fan from United Kingdom!
I call BS. Post proof ( tix & pix )

Class act all the way thru his great career, a true professional & living legend, Re2pected the game & the Yankee tradition.
Mariano Rivera,Bernie Williams,David Cone and Paul O Neill are fucking legends

I have Espinoza's autograph on a baseball I got at and O's game at old memorial stadium when I was a kid!
When I came here to post my comment they were at 222. I gotta say this guy I've watched for 20 years is a class act. 100%

Was there ever a more classier and professional baseball player in history than Derek Jeter?
d jeter is one of the all time greats in baseball history
I love Derek jeter
nice day. reminded me a little of mickey mantle day, back in '69; they should have had derek ride around the stadium in a golf cart at the end, so he could have waved to the fans...
And the funny thing is look at who was to meet him at the steps...Joe Torre those two had one hell of a connection
Most bizarre moment in Yankee history is when Harold Reynolds came out for Derek Jeter day.
Yeah where is Chris chambliss?
as a full blooded Boston Red Sox fan....Jeter always was secretly respected by RS Nation. He played the game right and played it hard.
#PENTAGON , HEY GUYS, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LETTING ME SAY WHAT I NEED TO SAY, IT MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME.

Shut up
I'm a Yankee fan since 1976....I would have given the last copper penny I have in my bank account to have been there that day !

Then M. Night Shyamalan shows up.

Best to Derek Jeter. Will this crazier baseball business allow a successor to him. And some lucky lady out there will be Mrs. Jeter according to his interview with NBC's Brian Williams.
