A-Rod’s self-awareness is great to see. Glad he’s gotten to this place in his life. Jeter is Jeter, nothing else needs to be said about that. Really glad they have 2009. This was a very good interview.
So glad Arod and Jeter have been able to heal their relationship. Seeing them in there retirement know explains why there was a super tight bromance in the beginning.
This is one of Jeter’s better interviews I’ve heard! He really gave us an insight of how smart he actually is. He articulated himself well in this interview.
this is just awesome!!!! I hope Derek and Alex see this just to know HOW MUCH me and the world appreciate them being on podcast post career and commentating. I have my high school jersey signed by Derek at one of his early g2 commercials. Alex and Derek were my heroes growing up, I never made it Pro but always treated the game with respect because of how the captain carried himself! I never tossed a helmet or bat in college just because Derek wouldn't do it
Alex Rodriguez in Seattle with Ken Griffey Jr. What could and should have been! Those Mariners were almost to the Promised land of winning a Championship if not multiples!
Two great ambassadors of the game who traveled way different paths that can share their perspectives . I’m glad they have been able to get to a much better place . I really appreciate how far Alex has come on working on himself. Two great players who did it totally different.
It honestly really bummed me out as a kid that these two were best friends but by the time they were teammates they didn't really like each other anymore. I'm almost certain that was part of the reason why Arod was so bad in the playoffs in his first few Yankee seasons. He always was someone who could get in his own head. But he obviously turned it around in 2009. Now they're in a better place, although clearly not best friends, but it's nice to see them reminiscing and hanging out on purpose.
Listening to Derek is like listening to a good philosopher. He always says the right thing & always so absolutely correct when it comes to the toughest questions asked. He’s very analytical in a positive way. Really glad he & Alex burried the hatchet & moved on respecting each other. Great interview !
i as well...i was so sad when they had their little beef as these two are in my top 10 favorite players ever for sure. super glad they dropped it and were able to see eye to eye again! i really do think letting yourself step outside of the competitive mindset against another person truly helps that relationship heal.
I hear a lot of people talk smack about the Yankees being The Evil Empire !! We build our foundation from the farm !! Then, we fill in the gaps with people who can take us to a higher level !! I see a lot of teams who are 1-2 players away from a run but, they won't pull the trigger to help improve the line up for great players !! Our fan base has high expectations because we in general know what a championship team looks like !! Our roots are stronger than any professional team !! Hate all you want but I would only consider it envy !!
I have a great Derek Jeter story. His retirement year the Yankees played the Cardinals in St. Louis; it was so great what Derek did. I was one of the only ones around with a Yankees shirt, a white Nike cotton shirt. They see my shirt, see me staring, and Ill just stare. That's our Yankees! And I'm field side, third base side. I was embarrassed at first, thats our Yankees. I'm watching Teixeira, Cano and Jeter standing there out at shortstop/ shallow outfield talking and looking looking at me look at them and we're all just staring, they're talking and I'm locked in. I didnt wanna embarrass myself lol. And Derek, hes so cool, he says something to them, turns and takes one or a half step and jumps into the air like the Jeter/Jordan Logo. It was one of the coolest things ever. They look over a bit more. I dont know if I waved or what. I just stared. We just watched, looked alike. I never thanked them, I looked over in the visiting dugout which I was seated by. Those guys gave me and those around one of the best moments, those moments were the best moments of that day or that year. Watching the Yankees and my favorite player: Derek Jeter on my favorite team: the Yankees, like one of our favorite athletes: Michael Jordan. Thanks Jesus! Thanks Derek! Thanks MJ! Thanks Alex! Thanks from reading. Thanks so much.
What a great episode. Two of my favorite players growing up. Derek, the consumate professional, and alex, the natural. Two of the best shortstops of all time!
This is suuch a great interview. Mr. Kelly & Mr. Rodriguez do a great job of bringing out an authentic side and view of each guest and this one with Mr. Derek Jeter was no different. Stellar work sirs.
I'm happy! I've been in Ny sports all my life, my dad grew up in the Bronx and pretty sworn I would have been condemned if I didn't end a Yankee fan but I am still an obsessed fan! My dad is my best friend and he has guided me my whole life!!!!
Love this! I really like Fox’s playoff baseball broadcast. The show with Jeter, Alex, Papi, Berkhalter, is great, stats, production value, all of it is great 👍
I mean, say what you want about A-rod (and he no question deserved some of the shame he got from the baseball community) but he definitely deserves some respect for making an effort to be a better person.
Thanks for bring Derek to the podcast. Many of us admire the player but then you discover that personal side which seems to be even better than the baseball player he was.
Nice to see this 190-WAR left-side-of-the-infield reunite; it's fascinating both in terms of the insightful conversation content AND the unique opportunity to get a sense of where their storied interpersonal dynamic stands in 2024. Well done by all parties involved.
I was telling another parent at my son’s baseball game today that if Alex Rodriguez would have had Derek Jeter’s parents, he would have been the best player in the history of baseball. Get home 2 hours later and this video pops up on my UA-cam feed.
90's strike hurt baseball for over 2 decades. Jeter, Rod, Ohtani, 2004 series, etc are bringing it back in a big way. Especially Ohtani, the Tiger effect.
I like A-Rod these days- he seems fun, interesting, and more at ease than ever before. He’s lived some life and made it out the other side to smile about it. Jeter seems kind of like a hater. He takes a lot of unnecessary jabs.
Huge fan of both of these guys growing up, especially the Captain. I’m not sure what it is, but with time I feel like I’ve grown to like ARod a lot maybe even more than DJ. He seems so much more vulnerable than DJ.
I didn't see them talking over each other but there's definitely a tension there. I don't think they don't like each other there's just a weird dynamic them between them
A-Rod and Jeter were my hero’s growing up. Love this a bunch.
