    I am a Burgman 400 owner, and am very pleased with it. In terms of capability, it isn't really a scooter, but a motorcycle with a step-through frame. In terms of power, at one point I was riding two-up with a combined weight of nearly 500 lbs, was headed up hill on a local highway over the speed limit and was acccelerating. I realized that there was hardly any point to having more power available. My wife however riding as a passenger finds the non-adjustable footrests too narrow.

    Nice video, I was thinking of buying a sportbike but I don't like the bent over riding position; I prefer the upright riding position. Was also thinking about a cruiser with the upright riding position, floor boards, highway pegs, windshield, and saddlebags, but after seeing your video on the Burgman, I realized that it's pretty much a cruiser without the big engine and gear shifting. I'm impressed with the riding position, comfortable seat, and amount of storage space. Thanks for the video.

    I have the same k8 and it easily hits 90+ mph on the highway. I take it all over California and it has plenty of speed to match the cars on these roads.

    Translation of the French below: It's a motorcycle, frankly, a fine motorcycle. I've always adored the idea and design of the Burgman 400, [untranslatable lyrical praise for the Burgman--it's regal, it's a throne] Fine video, well executed and the quality of the picture really surprises me. Thank you.
    And I agree. It's a fine video.

    "It's an air cooled...You can see the radiator behind there"...if it's got a radiator doesn't that mean it's water cooled?

    Also wanted to mention that this bike is suprisingly comfortable for long distance riding. I've taken this on 8-10 hours ride and my body didn't feel beat up like on a motorcycle. The windshield is small so you would want to upgrade it to reduce wind noise.

    I've looked at all scooters from 250cc to 650cc, and I keep coming back to this one as the best option. Love the gauge cluster, headlights, big windscreen, mileage vs power, style, highway capability, passenger comfort, and of course that huge trunk space! I'm a photographer and want to be able to carry a tripod to get to shoots on a moments notice so this seems pretty perfect.

    The 400 is a good starter if you're considering a maxi scooter. If you're thinking of this as commuter but you also want to do some touring on the weekend then this bike seems well equipped to do the job. I think 400 is about big enough to tackle the open road, the CVT means you just twist the throttle and go. I have the 650 version which is a bit more powerful. A manual mode in the transmission gives those who seek it more control. It looks like the 400 has a comfortable seat. The screen although fixed looks wide and tall enough to keep the wind off when travelling at high speed. Forget the bike v scooter nonsense, just ride what you like, what you can afford and what will take you where you want to go. It is the ride that is important not the destination, it is the trip not how fast you go to get there or how quickly you get there.

    Excellent review, just about to buy this model. Seems like a really well thought out machine and looks the business, way better than later model. Also own a Fireblade, but this thing is great to just jump on without getting leathered up.

    Well i have a 07 400cc model with no 'kickstart',does'nt need it,starts first time.I my opinion the 400 goes round the corners two-up on the edge of the tyre with absolutly no nonsense,skipping,weaving.and handles very well for a scooter.Saying all that,it is a scooter not a race machine,and is very comfortable on long trips,and will cruise around 70-80 all day.Drive your machine to the speed limits,and you get lots of miles to the gallon.The burgman 400 should suit anybody who prefers the speed limits,and is a formidable scooter.But i must say,it's not beutiful as some others.

    You can purchase the jumper wires from Auto Zone. They are two wire trailer light extensions. When you cut them in two they make a lead set for the battery and a lead set for the battery charger or a electric tire pump I keep in the glove box.

    Great walk around buddy. I have the AN650-K4 Burgman and love it, I wish they would have put analog gauges and the mirrors like the 400 to the 650. But it is what it is. Again, great job.

    Yes, I traded them both in and got a Vulcan 900 LT and a Honda Metro. My wife was too short to flatfoot the burgie. You got a great scooter. I just traded on a whim. There are days I miss them.....

      badchuckie Its faster 0-60mph than my Honda ST100. Had the old model AN400 1999. Tomorow I'm buying one 2008 K8 with only 4.000 miles for just 2.400$. That scooter is just perfekt and reliable. And for that money you wont find anything better.

    @kwaidonjin Yes the 400 will be adequate. You should be able to cruise at 70 mph two up. I would say that the 650 would be better if you are going to be two up all the time. The insurance is less and gas mileage is about 15 mpg better than the Silverwing or the Burgman 650. I have weighed as much a 275 and it runs great!

  • @badchuckie
    @badchuckie  12 років тому

    Yes I love my Kawa 900 but I do miss the Burgman. The 400 has several advantages over the 650. It's lighter, costs $2K less, easier to balance, gets better mpg, easier to service and I do like the instrument cluster much better. The 650 is faster, has no belt(not sure that's a real advantage)

      Lydon Lewis DoUbLeZz Hi well I have a 2006 , ok but some parts are 2007 , like I went to get an air filter for mine and I told him for 2006 , I get home wrong one , so I try a 2007 and it was ok , mine is cross , but it has a 2007 motor , the 2007 is better , it has a few more cc's , the dash is different , and I think the way you tell , the 2007 motor has a little glass window to check the oil level as well as the dip stick , the 2006 motor just has the dip stick , as far as I know , but try to get the 2007 model,

    I've had several 400cc scooters to include the 07 & 09 Burgman 400 and an 07 Yamaha majesty. What I've noticed across the board with all three of them is that although they will get to 70 and sometimes a little over. It's not something you'd want to do for an extended period. I have had the 07 burgman to 78 while passing but it wasn't stable at that speed and wasn't much if any throttle left. The 09 and the majesty aren't any better as far as top end, they all seem to like to hover around the 60MPH range, as for touring I wouldn't say that you could run from say NC to MD at 70 before having problems. The scoots are great around town, but as far as what I've experienced although they do have highway capability I would say that you wouldn't want to go on a major interstate with a 70MPH speed limit for very long

    • @jesuisravi
      @jesuisravi 8 років тому

      I have a Honda Reflex 250. It will do 70 and probably more but I don't like to push it that hard. I will say this, it can stay at 65 for as long as I want it to. I am surprised that a 400cc scooter can't get above 78.

    • @1969jmac
      @1969jmac 8 років тому

    Hello there. I do have a Burgman 400 2009 ABS. Dose your wind shild is OEM ? it look shorter them mine? Also since they add an O2 senser on the muffler and catalitic part inside of the muffler, the new Burgman is slower then the 2006 Burgman, when doing 0 to 60 Km/H from a full stop, except that I like the new Burgman so much! I can't wait for the next day to come so I can ride this scooter again.
    Thanks.

    • @MrGreenelight
      @MrGreenelight 8 років тому +4

      It is just just in case , your battery or starter goes out. You still can get going.
      That s like asking why use your seat belts if you don't plan on getting into an accident

    • @MrGreenelight
      @MrGreenelight 8 років тому +1

      That is OK if you are in an area where electricity or a jump off is accessible. But battery problems have a way of catching you at inopportune moments, so I think keeping a kick starter is an effective and useful backup
      to get you out of a bad or possibly dangerous situation if the need arises.
      I have never had to use my kick starter, but if my battery, electric starter, corrosion or wiring issue occurs; I want a kick starter there to get me out of a sticky situation.

    Don't like the design of Burgman..front side is ok but last side quite ugly.. Gilera Nexus 500 and Yamaha t-max 530 are better.. and fastier ( 120mph/ 180 kmh)..

      +Mario Losberg BS! Which planet are you from? I went through all of these and the Burgman stands up to price, storage area and power. On the Yamaha t-max you may get a little more power but that's it! For the money the Burgman can't be beat.
