Dave, I love comparisons. It helps us make decisions!! Please do more. Excellent work on this one!!!
SSL BUS+ = absolutely the best!!! thank you for the very important videos!
Beautiful video David! Loved this comparison, I would welcome the VariMu battle for sure and a mastering EQ battle as well!
Thank you for your work David! really helpful for many of us, cheers
Thank you for the support Martin!
The video I have been waiting for!!!
Now that was a killer video! Both are just top notch phenomenal. Thank you David! A Vari Mu comparison would be interesting.
Wow! I was one of those who asked, and I'm delighted that we got to see a direct comparison between these two compressors of the same topology, but clearly a notably different sound! The rest boils down to taste and which unit fits which mix better. :)
Hi David, great video as always :) Did you ever tried the Bettermaker Mastering Compressor? Would be interesting how this unit performs against the SSL+ and the NG because the BM seems to have almost everything from both units (FF and FB, THD, ODD and EVEN Harmonics and EQ) and has also three different Comp Styles (BM, SSL and DX). I'm struggling between the NG and the BM as I want a Comp with digital recall for a better workflow.
Thank you and keep up the amazing work you do for us. This helps a lot 🤘
In conclusion, I want both compressors. They both sounds absolutely fabulous. In fact, if I had them both in the studio I'd probably be stuck in a option paralysis trying to decide which one suits the song better.
Dave, this was a great comparison.... the fact that you use different types of music genres gives a even better comparison. These are both on my list to acquire. I do have a request how would the ngBusComp compare to the Mnaley Nu Mu.
If you could do a video on the settings for a hardware compressor I’d be very happy. I have an NgBysComp but I really don’t know how to use it. You’re the best! Thank you!
Thanks for listening and providing us with this comparison.. Own the ssl bus+ but now aiming for the wes..!
Amazing video!
I was waiting for David's fingers to slide to the top of the screen to bring down the cameo appearance the master chain of Tiger M.U. + JAM + ASH ultra + L A C E during the A/B demo here LoLoLoLoLoL
I love my Buss Plus, so much that I had a custom transformer box built- full of vintage transformers in stereo configurations. I had been eyeing the Wes for the transformer color which really sounds very good.
O wow! A transformer box full of vintage stereo transformers, that sounds very interesting, is it like a color box you would use on a 2 bus? Thank you.
@@douggroulx1525 Yes it’s precisely that. It has a few buttons on there, which allow me to select between different transformers- or use them in any combination. It can be great to shootout different colors on mix bus. It can be very helpful on tracks too. A certain pair I have really open up the top end, another pair low end, another pair midrange. Sometimes an anemic guitar can benefit from some xformer drive so it has a bit more authority
great video!
Thank you 👌🔥
Feel the rush of adrenaline . Yehhhh . Love that Mix
I really loved the grunt of the SSL, but the Ng sounds big every time, wow to both these units!
Amazing work as always! I've read on another post that the BUS+ is getting a lot of use on your drum bus. Now I'm curious...is it an alternative to the Fatso or do you use both together, like the Fatso for saturation and glue and the BUS+ for the typical vca snap in parallel? Thank you
Not together, but they have things in common like Fatso with the warm circuit (deesser/deharsher) and BUS with the dyneq but when you'd use one you wouldn't the other, totally different styles and sounds
I have the Tegeler Creme RC which sounds very musical and I love having the plugin recall that it has. I was considering getting the SSL Bus + but after seeing your video I prefer the Wes Audio NG, very musical and more fitting for the type of music I do. Thanks for your time and the excellent detail you put into your videos, your channel rocks!
Been hoping for this one for a while. I own a Bus+ and have always been looking to see if the grass is greener on the other side...
55 hours bro! we don’t mind. It is totally fine by us! 😂😂🙌 3:09
The look of the NGBus is top! The THD is incredible. Had the NGBUS and other stuff that I still do have. But when it comes to overall compression, I gotta say only a few do classic bus compression like SSL. Can’t go wrong with either though honestly! Both wonderful.
ngBus got massive flavor. very cool. thanks.
Heard that upper mid push on Bus+
Man that NG😮💨
Hi David, thank you for all you work on the channel ! Do you have some considerations to share regarding the choice of a lunchbox for rack 500 modules ? I have seen that the prices vary a lot, but I am not sure if I should invest in the more expensive ones, or if this would be overkill and for instance the Midas L6 is already good.
Do NOT cheap out on the rack. The power is extremely important for the modules to work properly. Wes Audio is great, that's what I have
Both sound amazing... But there's just something about the SSL Bus + that reminds me of all the Classic Hip Hop records that I love. Can't lose with either one though.
Both great, Ng for me
Vari-Mu battle!!! Please and thank you
🤘😎🤘
Amazing videos! I have the TC ICONs and Wes Audio 500-Series is the way I like it. What happened to comparing Dione? I agree with everything you say, excellent ears
I don't have it installed atm
Dave, I am new to your channel and I’m an older cat who is mainly hard rock for the most part. But your videos are awesome and I don’t know if you’re mixing these tracks that you’re using for reference, but that is stone cold killer work.
Thank you! Yes all the music is either mixed or mastered (or both) by me
@@mixbustv what I like is that you introduce gear that is not the typical. And your ears are phenomenal.
Nice vid as usual bro. The magic button on the Bus+ is the LowTHD. Its mental. When only that is engaged, its hard to beat. They DynEQ takes it over the top. I do like the Wes though. But or now gonna stick with the SSL.
Yeah Low THD is a default. It always sounds better with it
I also noticed that SSL pushes the vocals up front more than the WesAudio
Slightly depending on the material, which can be good or not
Two heavy weights for sure, I love that Iron on the Wes. I agree is a lot sometimes but man, when it works it adds so much weight. The SSL tho is no slouch, it slaps so hard and I love what it does to vocals in the rock mix!
Polished, Big and smooth if you want the NG, snappy and reactive with grit the SSL. That's a battle!
Both have their advantages, but I'm going with Ng for recall.
That Wes Audio NGBusComp x NGTubeEQ must be BUSsin'! #ebonics
Amazing comparison! Really enjoyed your commentary also.
I gotta say, I was biased to toward the Bus+ cause I own it, but the ngBus really blew me away. Except for the Rock track in the end, where that grabbyness of the Bus+ really knocked it out of the park for me. But for mastering, I feel like the ngBus is far supperior.
🙌 agree and thank you
Now this was a battle. I agree with the majority here, both amazing units, Wes Audio has the edge for everything but drums for me. Overall more classy and polished sound, plus of course the recalls and digital control!
I love both compressors. I do however prefer the excitement the Bus+ gives and I feel it has other features the the WesAudio does not have. I use 2 Capi Heider FD312 H2 mic/line preamps on my mix bus with the transformer color that may or not be better than the transformer in the WesAudio since I do not have a WesAudio it would be hard to know. At this time I am happy with my Bus + and it is only 2 rack spaces not 3. I do like the recall better on the WesAudio but at the end of the day the sound is what we are going to hear, not recall. I do like to have both of them but simply pressed for space and I have other items needed on my list plus I got the Bus+ while it had $500 off. Thank you DAVE for the excellent Video!! I really loved this one!!!!
Listening to this on my monitors vs AirPods is amazing! Prefer the NG on my monitors, the SSL on the AirPods
Not really on the topic, but where I can hear the Throat remix that's in the intro?
Bella Kelly Spotify, the remix album
SSL Bus Plus has more bottom on the kick and glue the track and a music way. The tone and character of the Ng Bus is very good too. Both are very good but SSL Bus Plus is very good on aggressive sounds
The acoustic song shows the width of the NG Bus.
This is what the people came for!!!
Thanks for the comparison video! I have the Bus+. I really do think they are really tough to compare. One thing I noticed on the NG - is that it was still reacting heavily to low end while the sidechain was rolled up to 90 and 150....most certainly to your hip hop and dance examples. On the hip hop example, you can see on the SSL gain reduction meter reacting heavily to the vocals. Which in turn made the SSL a bit more frenetic. The 2181 THAT VCAs are much snappier within the SSL than the NG...and I agree with a comment that it would be cool to use the Bus+ for mixing and the NG for mastering. I preferred the SSL way more on the rock example than the NG.
Well yes at the same settings (HPF) but let's not forget one of the greatest features of the Ng is the API 2500 style "thrust" internal circuit (called here T1 and T2) that alone is something incredible, having a classic bus comp sound with the behavior of the 2500? That was THE selling point for me of the Dione.
@@mixbustv Good to know - and thanks for the reply! I think I just truly preferred the compression characteristics of the Bus+ a bit more. The NG really reminds me of the Allen Smart C2 - allows you to grab more of the mix while retaining the image. All good characters at the end of the day.
Wes Audio's low end is bigger, Image as well.
To me the WES audio sounds a bit better overall (except the rock track, SSL aced that). But (big but), the ngBusComp is also €1200 more than the Bus+.
They have the same price in US. The Ng cost $100 USD more at the moment
The ssl sounds the best
🔥
Incredible comparison, you're the best David! I wish I could have both like you but if I had to go with only one it would probably be the Ng
Wow! That surprised me more than I thought it would. First off, thanks for the comparison man. But I was shocked at how much more "grabby" the Bus+ was! And to be honest I personally liked the Bus+ on the drums for sure, but also the rock track you played. But everything else I personally liked the NG. As you said, they are both badass units. Having them both to choose between from song to song would be an incredible setup, as you have have already confirmed. Awesome video man.
VariMu battle!!!
The ngbus wins in my opinion. It’s just more musical and smooth.
It kind of funny with the bus plus : Its way more agressive than the comp in my bigsix-console (which is fixed to 30ms attack). with 40 ms of attack on the Bus+ its the nearest i can get (tonalwhise they are both very comparable). Compared to my TK-BC1 which is also an VCA-SSL-Type-Comp its also way mor mid-range focused. So I agree with you David. On a very fast (punk)-track with about 2-3 db of GR its sounds the best to me, coz its bringing so much life!
Yeah it grabs hard
Overall I I feel that Bus+ pushes things "closer" and ngBus makes it wider. I liked the ngBus more, but some clients may prefer the "straight forward" sound of Bus+.
+1 for Wes Audio
i prefer the wes audio 🔥
The SSL is in your face (like here I am 😂) While the Ng is like something you can walk through yet you feel the presence.
Yep!
Imagine you only had one. You'd make it work just as good right.
I live in the 5% world, so if I can I rather not "make things work" if that means losing a bit. A bit for me is THEE difference.
@mixbustv a variety is great in mixing. I have much outboard. However 4me, the master should remain subtle, unnoticeable unless for weird effect. The biggest difference would be loudness enhancement ability on a per mix basis in mastering. Not color with those right?
Both are great and extremely versatile. I like the mojo coming out the ng more. However the ssl give you so much options Whether you want an old school or new school vibe. I feel like it really doesn't matter which one to get.
SSL kinda adds this grit I don’t really love. It’s not bad but the NG smoothness is kinda crazy. Wesaudio for me.
SSL is punchier in some cases though and that’s dope
To me the NgBus Comp is more "in your face", "open", here I'm in front of you, nice compression, almost like there's no any; while BUS+ has that "strong gates" that guard the mistery, it's here but you can't reach it vibe, so NgBus would be great for Rap, RNB, Vocal - piano combo etc., where you want clean, strong, open compression with "a statement" while BUS+ gives you that classic "out of reach" (too good for you 🤣🤣) agenda that's great (a must) for EDM, pop music, rock etc. It's counterintuitive. The beginner would pick NgBusComp in a second every time ...
Before harmonics I find the NgBusComp more exciting (polished)... after harmonics I'm between the two on the first track.
I would like a tiny bit of the 4K added to the sound of the Ng, but just a tiny bit.
For my mixing style, the NgBusComp would be much more useful, a lot cleaner.
I tend to need things on the mix bus that opens things back up.
Then on the second song I'm getting for of the emotion of the track with the Bus+ but not liking it over all in comparison to the Ng.
Again, would like a tiny bit of the Bus+ added to the Ng, but the Ng is the winner for myself.
What the Bus+ is giving me, I can get from something else that will do that a bit better.
On the 3rd track I'm unsure but a little more towards the Ng.
On the 4th track I am Bus+ right away, it tames the Rock harshness (listening on the Bluetooth speaker so ignore these opinions really)... but as the other modes get changed and harmonics get added I'm Ng again.
Any possibility of a Dictator VS Ng?... two completely different compressors, but trying to find myself the first good compressor to go with.
Possible yes, useful not so much. The battle would be better the Rhea and the Dictator
@@mixbustv What would you suggest as a wiser first bus/mastering compressor between the Ng and the Dictator?...
My gathered information tells me the Ng is wiser, but the dual mono of the Dictator will couple as a good recording compressor.
On the drums no way in my opinion
Better the Ssl, more airy and open
For mastering i prefer on every track the NG
SSL feels more balanced on the transients
What does more balanced on the transient mean? Genuinely asking
@@mixbustv the transients are sounding better/sitting better in a mix with the vocals and the rest of the elements, NgBus is making vocals seem louder and lowers the volume of drums (rebalances a mix a tiny bit). That's what I'm hearing
x logic wouldve been better because … well to me it was built in europe and not in china like the bus + not saying the bus + is bad the the xlogic sounds better
Hell no it doesn't 😄
@@mixbustv you like thr plus better ? what about thr C2 ?
the SSL*****
God Bless MixBusTV 🙏🎧🎤
God Bless President Trump 🙏🇺🇸
NG trashes the SSL
Wes audio Is Better
