Do compressors really matter? Of course they do! Understanding why and how the character of different compressors uniquely affect your sound is tricky, yet it can be the difference between a track that’s so-so and one that’s spectacular. To help answer these questions, we tapped the Audio Alchemist himself, Marek Stycos, to walk us through some of the all-star offerings available from Manley, Dangerous, and Chameleon Labs, illustrating how drum tracks, vocal takes, and full-track mixes are distinctly affected by different forms of compression. Check it out!

OMG this guy is awesome, can we get more videos of his breakdown of other audio products?
Where did you find Disco Chad Kroeger?!
This was the most entertaining yet educational video on the subject of compressors ever. My winner was Dangerous Music. Anytime he'd hit that one, i would always go "yeah. That. That's the sauce!"
All this quality gear is less expensive and more accessible than it's ever been, but learning to use it to get the full benefit of it takes years of experience and some actual talent as an engineer. There are probably people buying this stuff who would be better served with simpler, less expensive stuff to master the basics of recording and mixing first.
I need a good 40 grand to get the decent rig I want.
It's a pleasure to hear someone present who really knows their apples. A good teacher does it naturally and with style, maybe not a silk shirt though! Great piece
This is how to demo/educate. Well done!
Compression is important. Especially when everything is digital. Analog mixing consoles provide some natural compression, as well as analog recording.
Marek this is a incredible presentation. I am loving the dangerous compressor
Where does one buy pants like that?
Hot Topic among many others.
Great demo of great gear
Fantastic opportunity to hear all these great boxes....amazing video! It sounds soooo amazing through good monitors. The Dangerous compressor is incredible to my ears~
Wow I enjoyed this. Very informative.
Wonderful video. Thank you 🙏
This vid is awesome. What I learned most was how amazing the speakers on my phone are.
Dangerous Compressor all the way!!! Nu-Mu is also pretty awesome.
👏Meanwhile the Dangerous Liaison doing the most!!
Awesome!
This guy fuggs!
Wow I had no idea they were all so different.. incredible stuff. Maybe some day I can have ONE 😂
Love this video! That Vari Mu sounds tasty!

I´ll take em´ all
I would buy that dangerous or NuMu compressor from sweetwater when I get his shirt in blue on top :)
❤
I need the throat punch Compressor😂
ELOP VARI-MU and Dangerous. Oh yes.
Lol surely anyone who can afford any of this knows what they do... 😂
Nice video tho 👍
True but it is really informative to hear them so clearly compared.
👍I LOVE ! 💙⚪❤
I have realized that you dont even need them when not recording live instruments. Maybe for the line,pr-amp.color, drive into saturation tubes, valves. Is that a fair assessment?.
They all sound different.
No.
And I wouldnt mind that rig. Nice.
Explain why? @@ChrisP3000x
It’s the sound of Grammys
😂 give me a f’ing break
Meaning a modern vs contemporary sound.
He's not wrong. Those who know... know.
Not sure what you mean by that, I have the manley elop and vari-mu as well as at least a dozen more tube compressor limiters. I would consider myself one “who knows”.
