Personally, I think the Ponds should've left after S6... then have S7 be companionless, helping the inner darkness festier.... then bring in Clara for S8... Maybe have a semi-companion who becomes the 'Impossible Girl' but in fact, they're a figment created by the Great Intelligence to lure 11 out... Obviously, the impossible girl wouldn't have travelled with him, just showing up at weird locations without any idea about the previous encounters. Also yes!!! River song video please

Brian would work in rings of akhatan, we never meet Rory’s mother , could establish her as dead like Clara’s was and have Rory take Clara’s role with the leaf and Amy can take on the role of comforting the queen like Clara did. This would establish a past for Brian expanding his character.

I like the new introduction you came up with for Clara! I would’ve said to just introduce her in Deep Breath so she can be the Victorian version of the character like everything says she should have been anyway, but having the Doctor know her as a child on Trenzalore and her know the Doctor as an old man would really cement the “duty of care” relationship between them!
Tbf that’s been my one issue with Clara in the 50th. Her line to 11 “what you’ve always done be a doctor” feels like it would’ve hit way more if a classic companion said that. I can get more behind Mel’s line about every incarnation being fantastic in the 60th by comparison because she at least knew a couple of Doctors prior the anniversary.
Ooooh checking in on Craig and Sophie with Teenaged Allie would’ve been *brilliant.* I really never realized how odd it was for characters like Craig, the Paternosters and UNIT to be prominent for a series or two and then just get dropped, all throughout the Moffat era. Just so strange.
Under Moffat though, so hard to know how much was Chibs and how much was the Moff. The showrunner usually has a hand in everything especially the recurring characters
1- It matters that Brian has to play off 11 and the Ponds within two comedy episodes and not characters Chibnall originated within serious episodes 2 - I imagine the process is something like this though. Showrunner: The main storyline this year is about the Ponds leaving, write me a lighthearted episode about their strained relationship. Staff Writer: I’d rather be retconning regeneration lore, but I’ll do what the boss says. Showrunner: Thanks for lightening my writing load, I’ll punch up this dialogue and we’ll be good to go.

Tardis Rebuild: They had little choice on that. Between 7A and 7B, they changed studios - like to the other side of Cardiff or something - and everything had to be rebuilt. So, just rebuild what has already appeared in two and a half seasons? Or build something totally new, which they intended to do soon anyhow.
and I think they needed the 7A TARDIS during filming, during the move. So either delay using the TARDIS in 7B, or build a new one, which would mean no conflicts. Especially when the glass sculpture in the time rotor was shattered during the move, which was one of the most expensive parts of that tardis.
One downside with the "Clara is a Tranzalore native" idea is that, due to the Doctor's lifespan, you'd have to introduce her in the third act only, making her becoming a companion potentially being rushed.
I always thought the Ponds should have come back for real in Time of the Doctor, being pulled through the crack in time, for 11's last adventure. There's also no way River or Captain Jack would leave the Doctor alone on a planet under siege.
especially when it's apparently believable that River is buried on Trenzalore. Jack I can see as struggling, given he's either already the Face of Boe, or stuck on earth. But there's a lot of characters who should've been there to help, unless the church kept them all out.
I really like your ideas for The Day of The Doctor and The Time of The Doctor. I love Capaldi, so I was on the fence about your previous Doctor Who video, but this time it's excellent.
To me this would have made season 7 a lot better. Even though 7a had its problems I still enjoyed it mostly because of how invested I already was in this tardis trio. It’s why despite the ending I really really enjoy the power of three. Because I love their dynamic together. While Clara with 12 was great she felt very meh and bland for me in 7b (just like that season as a whole). So even if the writing didn’t improve a ton for that season I would have at least enjoyed it more with characters I already had grown to really like. EDIT: I said this before I watched the vid and then I see that everything was actually what was said 🤣.
I like the Trenzalore idea with Clara, Amy pond and Rory stay behind too and look after the people like Susan helped and stay behind in the Dalek invasion of earth while Clara wants to see the universe and the doctor grown warmth with Clara since her youth and looking after her out of trenzalore like a grandfather figure

I love The Ponds. They’re my favorite companions. But I felt s7a wasn’t the best end to their time in the TARDIS (the separation bc of Amy not being able to have kids was a bit odd choice for their arc). I would’ve rather we had a full series with 11 and Clara. Having said that, I would’ve been curious to have The Ponds end in The God Complex.
@@Condor-gb1xp Even if you don’t count Asylum/Snowmen which are pretty important for like the entire idea of Clara in S7 and why you’re supposed to care about her. She’s in 10 episodes. The Ponds appear in 5. Coleman was not shafted by this structure and she literally became the longest running companion in the entire show. Yaz may have only failed to catch up because of shorter episode orders

Love this! Absolutely do a River Video. This just goes to show, Doctor who really needs to add a Marvel What if style show to the whoniverse. It'd be a really fun way for actors to return without any long term commitment or making any major cannon chances to the main show.

I was a bit tired of the Ponds by the ends of series 6. I like the idea “What If Clara was the companion for all of series 7” much more as it can use the 5 extra episodes to flesh out her character
putting respect on the craig episodes made me instantly respect every single opinion you had. im a craighead to the end---those episodes are both so much fun and also really dive into the doctor's character in a way that many of the more climactic and dramatic episodes fail to do. teenage stormageddon would be a joy to see and the entire craig family dynamic would be a nice parallel/mirror to the ponds and river (a sorta what-could-have-been if they had been able to raise her on the TARDIS which only the doctor would be there to see. there's a lot of potential in that)

Can we time travel to the past and show Moffat this please 😂 It is unfortunate, I always felt Moffats & Matt's run could've given so much more, and it's because of everything you've stated in this. The Ponds should've been there throughout S7, in DOTD (beautiful connection made by @passionateerrors ) , more Brian, and have more from Amy's parents (absurd how they were only in 1 ep!), and end it with the Ponds living in the present on a good note (because good characters people connect with, deserve a good ending). I'm down for a River Song vid FFV, or whatever your brain churns 👍🏽
I've been working on a comic book series called Doctor Who's What If?. The first issue was actually "What if the Ninth Doctor didn't regenerate". In this, The Doctor goes through series 2 and a couple of episodes of series 3. If this were the show, I would move those couple of episodes to the end of series 2. The Doctor would regenerate in "Daleks In Manhattan". Romana would be there investigating some alerts that there is dalekanium there. It would show real growth for the Doctor telling Romana what he did and why he did it. He would then regenerate after a Dalek ray would hit him.
Omg I got emotional listening to this imagining that all that happened. What could be a more satisfying way to end such a beloved era of the show with a beloved tardis team than this?
I always thought the reason Moffat characters disappeared quickly after their stories was because the Doctor hates endings. It makes sense that he would never check in on anyone he cares about after his “need” for them has finished.
My idea for a series 7 arc that keeps Clara's impossible girl storyline while also adding to the Silence and Trenzalore. Clara splinters are a creation of the Timelords as a means to lure to the Doctor to Trenzalore. The Doctor knows his death is there so he avoids that place as much as possible. The Prime Clara would be from Trenzalore, a young woman intrigued by the Doctor and who disiked her home even before the seige occured, it's a boring place. So the want to adventure is there. The Timelords used her and spintered her to make sure the Doctor would come to Trenzalore plus make sure he didn't die to the Silence along the way who during this series would've gotten more desperate and foolish with their plans. Sometimes they would've succeeded if a Clara splinter hadn't stopped them. While adding to it, I like the idea that the Doctor had Amy and Rory return home similar to what happened to Rose, he can't risk them getting hurt on Trenzalore. I like the idea the two held out hope for the Doctor's return but got on with thier lives in the end. When the Doctor did return it would be a situation where they're older, they've adopted and settled down fully. They're happy their friend is alive and survived Trenzalore but still gets a smack for sending them away like that no matter what face they have.
I heard that if 9 did series 2 that RTD would have gone more into depth with the time agency and the 5 years of memories that Captain Jack had stolen from him.
I never considered the whole “Amy would recognize the 10th Doctor costume” bit. But for me, Clara was still the perfect companion to have around in the 50th Special because of the Impossible Girl thing … which the show just dropped. Nothing was done dramatically with the fact that while Clara was a relatively new character, she was given a unique place in DW lore as a human uniquely placed to understand its history and the concept of regeneration as she too is not the only version of herself. If Amy & Rory are there … I guess we get to see them react to the Time War which was less of a big thing in their time on the show. But for the most part, inserting Amy & Rory into most Series 7B plots would have dramatically improved them from a chemistry perspective. Even though I think there is a strong contingent of viewers who are against any companion being on the show for more than two years. (I’m not one of those people. DW thrives on change, but there is also dramatic potential in not immediately writing out all your characters and letting relationships build.)
I think Death in Heaven could have been a really good final episode for them. The stakes would have been much higher with Rory than Danny, as the audience is much more invested in the relationship. Could have ended with them together in the cloud, maybe combined with River's
The Ponds' ending makes no sense once you think about it. What's to stop the Doctor from landing outside New York, going into the city and then bringing them back?
The problem wasn’t that 11 couldn’t physically reach them. The problem was that extracting them NYC would be interfering with history and would cause a paradox. It would be going Time Lord Victorious again to save them.
that is an amazing idea. Name of the doctor: instead of Clara getting knocked out and inducted into the dream state, it begins with Amy already in the dream talking to the Victorian gang. Then Rory gets added and there is something wrong, he is old. Amy realizes they are dreaming and she is old too. She had just reverted to a younger state in the dream to fake out the audience. Once you realize that they are older, seeing River's ghost brings on new meaning to them. They saw her last week at Brian's funeral but she was a younger version who hadn't even been arrested for the doctor's murder yet. Now they keep asking why she can't visit them in person and she just begs them not to blame the doctor. Rest of the event's play out normally with Amy and Rory jumping into the doctor's time stream to save him. Instead of getting split up like Clara, they just get sent back a hundred years before the doctor's death on Trensalor. Then "Day of the doctor" happens with a younger version of Amy and Rory. At the end he tells them to take some time with their family and friends because he knows what will happen to them. Finally he goes to Trensalor but arrives way to early. By the time Rory and Amy arrive, he is already old too. They contemplate running away but as they are all old now, they decide to live out the rest of their lives there. Of course Rory and Amy die before he does. A young Clara reveals she will one day grow up to crash on the dalek asylum and get converted into a dalek. Not wanting that for her, he decides to change her fate and take her with him, giving him a reason to accept a new regeneration cycle instead of dying as he planned.
So an idea for what the other special in 2013 could be, is maybe it could be Angels Take Manhattan. Now it would have to be in between Day of The Doctor and Time of the Doctor, because I still want them in DOTD, so it would come out sometime in that 4 and a half week gap. And the reason I want it still is because I really really like that episode, it’s one of my favorites, and even tho it’s super sad and they don’t deserve it, I think it’s a great ending and still would work. And then after they are sent to the past, there would be the epilogue showing Brian and stuff (P.S. but live action). And then the next episode would be Time of the Doctor, and River would fill his companion role here basically, and is trying to help him through his grief, and eventually the Doctor grows old on Trenselore (not with River tho, save that for Husbands of RS, just have her pop in and out), and so over time he accepts the loss by the end, in time for 12 to not dwell on it. And I do really like your idea about Clara, that he meets her as a native to trensalore. And yeah I think that would all be great (imo), and the episode that would replace Angels in the series would probably be a Silence / Madame Kovarian centered episode, but maybe having the order changed. Great video man!
With so much extra setup throughout Series 5 & 6, the payoffs should have been HUGE in Series 7, and with lots of room for them to breathe, too! That's what good setup affords you. But instead, every single payoff arrives in The Time of the Doctor like a little afterthought. It's funny, I can see how the production team thought this would all work on paper. Amy and Rory's exit is _great,_ so introducing a new companion shouldn't be a problem, theoretically. But it turned out that writing them an exit -- however good -- _right_ before all the most important moments of Eleven's tenure completely undercut those moments, and at the last minute too. I completely agree that having the Ponds there throughout -- and more importantly: simply not introducing a shiny new Impossible-Girl-style mystery box -- would have kept the focus on the actual storylines we were expected to follow, and anticipating closure for. And what's worse: the terrible first impression that Impossible-Girl-Clara made in Series 7 then hampered Capaldi's seasons, and whilst I love them, the show arguably didn't recover its popularity until last year.
Think could have been cool to make Trenzalore/Time of the Doctor a multi episode arc. Actually show the different factions invading, maybe bring back Kovarian and her splinter group. Just build it up more versus showing his stand there and time as a montage and flesh out the Silence and the multiple factions a little more.
Honestly I think it’d work better if Amy & Rory left after The God Complex, Amy’s parents had cameos every now and then, and Brian became Clara’s dad. I think Clara worked well in Day of the Doctor

Day of the Doctor is when I remember Clara coming off as her most generic (which is called out even more when Matt Smith gets to act off David Tennant & you remember what real equal partners in TV leads can do). Earlier episodes gave Clara hints of wit & tragedy & she was just a generic companion character by the anniversary special (despite the fact that Name of the Doctor just made her theoretically the most interesting character to experience the War Doctor through only for the writers to just forget that)

Okay someone can explain this to me, so the Doctor can't travel into new york in the tardis to get Amy and Rory, why can't he just land a year before, get a train into new york to get Amy and Rory, take them out, and wait like a year to take them home? From the dialogue it seemed like he only couldn't land in New York.
The TARDIS interior changing wasn’t decided due to losing the Ponds in real life, they changed studios so they had to build a new set due to it being too hard to move the old set.
I always loved the scene where 11 is about to push the button in Day of the Doctor. But now I'm thinking about how much better this scene would have worked if it was Amy was the one that prevented him from pushing it, rather than Clara. Seems like such wasted potential.
Amy and Rory have always been my absolute favorite. I'm not sure if Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor, but Amy and Rory are by far my favorite companions. I would like a video maybe on how Amy and Rory would vibe with other Doctors
I absolutely love this video, everything ive been thinking for years, it makes so much sense this way. One thing i would say is change the majority of 7b episodes . Maybe the husbands of River song as an episode in that. I could see Amy and Rory opening the tower door saying it wasnt locked among other things. I like your nightmare in silver idea with craig and teenage Alfie. I would probably have name, day and time of the doctor as a three parter trilogy finale. Keep Clara as a native of trenzalor and 11 being scottish in honor of amy in his next incarnation. As well as a new tardis in deep breath. I would have if not all 13 episodes in 2012 then 8 and a xmas special in 2012 then 5 plus day and time in 2013
I really like the idea of madam kovarian being the main antagonist... In the name of the Doctor the silence can take the place of the whispermen (is that what they were called, really forgettable) except maybe this time these silence have different motives, answering the question what if the silence weren't just altering history but actively persecuting the doctor
Have to disagree about aesthetic changes we DID get. 11s purple Victorian Esq outfit is miles better than the tweed and I love that a TARDIS design transverse multiple doctors again. I really dislike this trend that every time the Doctor regenerates he needs a new TARDIS, a new sonic etc…
I agree that I like Doctors sharing tardis interiors etc, but in this case that blue-lit interior was awful. Maybe if he had used the later orange-lit Capaldi variant it would have worked
I disagree with the premise, I feel like #11 worked well with Clara, and that the lackluster series 7b had more to do with the writers sidelining her in most of the episodes in an effort to make the Doctor take full center stage. I would guess that this was a command from higher up producers and if Amy and Rory had stayed they would have had less to do in order to make the 50th anniversary exclusively about the Doctor.
I do agree that the pond's needed better closure. That River and Brian need to meet. But I think that there are other ideas that would have made Clara a much better character, not only simply using the impossible girl concept more often with the Doctor meeting Clara clones more and more intriguingly Clara herself meeting one of her clones

I loved this video, I did feel like series was a bit strange, I still to this day haven't seen 'Angels Take Manhattan' because I hold too much love for the Ponds in my heart, and Brian wasn't in too many episodes, he could have been there more, Amy recognising Ten's outfit as the Raggedy Doctor's outfit would have been nice, and in my mind, the Brian and his Grandson scene is in my head canon, Clara could have been teased, like maybe Mickey in series 2, she'd be in a few episodes, but not too many, so when we see her again, she's not too strange, I always preffered Victorian Clara to Prime Clara, plus River being River, it would make sense if she popped up more
I agree, 7b just didn't fit well with everything that came before and felt very tacked on. I love the idea of the whole of Series 7 being devoted to rounding out the Ponds era. One thing that I found particularly interesting was Amy and Rory's marital troubles AOTD. It felt very rushed to me that they were on the verge of divorce only to get back together at the end and everything's fine. It would have been a great subplot throughout the series showing them rebuilding their marriage on equal ground, knowing that they won't have anymore children, and accepting that and each other as they are. That rebuilding of their marriage can culminate in NOTD. In canon, we see the TARDIS come back multiple times for Clara so she can visit Eleven on Trenzalore, but avoid growing old there. Perhaps with the Ponds it starts out that way, where they keep getting dropped off at home and going back to visit, but then they mutually CHOOSE to go to Trenzalore to stay, knowing that they'll never be able to come back, that they'll live out their lives there. The Doctor will eventually stand over their graves (keeping that prediction from TPOT intact), but in a much more natural way. It's sad, but not the complete tragedy that it was in TATM. They lived a long life, defended Christmas and Trenzalore and did a hell of a lot of good. Clara can, as you said, be a Trenzalore native that they take under their wing at some point, and she sticks with the Doctor, and is there for his eventual regeneration into Twelve. (Of course, this would make Clara River's adopted baby sister, which is a whole different bucket of interesting lol.) I also love the idea of the Ponds being in DOTD. Their presence would in particular be a ray of hope for Ten, who was in his post-JE downward spiral. He'd lost Donna and Rose for good, Martha, Mickey, Sarah Jane, and Jack were all busy living their own lives on Earth (well, Jack's life was in the process of imploding since it's Torchwood, but you get the idea), and he was going a bit bonkers b/c of his own loneliness and arrogance. Seeing his next self happily matched with the Ponds would be a light at the end of the tunnel for him. Just as The Moment chose Rose's form for the War Doctor as a promise, a way of showing him that the sun will shine for him again, that he'd one day travel the universe with a Companion again, the presence of the Ponds would be the same beacon for Ten. Having them be present would have been a hell of a lot more meaningful than Clara, who was more of a plot device in 7b than she was an actual character. Absolutely loved this video! I'd actually prefer it if River stayed as her ghost version in the Name of the Doctor. Think how much harder it would hit for Amy and Rory to find out about her death. To see a gravestone with her name on it. To grapple with the idea that this woman who seems larger than life is still mortal. And to confront the fact that the Doctor knew this all along. And then have them meet the younger living version of their daughter again in one of the following specials and face the exact same dilemma the Doctor does whenever he spends time with his wife.
Love these ideas so much! But could do without Clara completely then. Bill was a much better companion for 12!!! And yes, more River Iand your video for her, yes!). Would have loved River to be the companion after the Angels story, and the Doctor going back in Time picking up Amy and Rory from their past and them not knowing what the doctor is hiding about their future (maybe Amy could find her letter and the Doctor has to wipe her memory, with River watching), knowing they would leave him in their future / his past (sort of a poetic reversal of the Season 6 opener where they meet a future Doctor, see him die (sort of ) and then meet his earlier self who doesn’t know about the astronaut by the lake). River knows and can’t stand his hurt and gives him a “different” but happy departure for them so to speak, even tho the Doctor knows it’s fake as well.. Long time fans know it’s fake and they’ll truly reunite in the past Dalek story and truly leave in the Angels story, but fans can sort of pick which one they like best and like Amy’s life, we can remember both ways they left. Truly playing the time traveling aspects of the show as far as it has ever gone. Love the idea of Amy meeting 10 and recognizing his clothes!
I really wish that 7b was the Ponds & River aswell as Brian rather than Clara splintering herself through the incarnations. Really did not like the Impossible Girl arc.
Eh, I was pretty glad to see Amy and Rory go. They were good companions, but there for way too long. I actually enjoyed 7B and Clara much more than 7A.
I agree, I felt it at the time when it aired and now upon rewatching it recently. The first half of season 7 is the weakest of the Moffat era, and is sort of a slog. It's not season 1 rewatching slog, I have really soured on season 1 over the years despite how it set up so much new Who going forward. The 2nd half of season 7 is definitely better, but the season overall is my least favorite next to season 1. Clara may as well be another character by Capaldi's first season, that's how it feels. Season 7 is a weird watch man

All these episodes would have been better if we kept the original character dynamics from Series 5 & 6 (or the writing of Clara dramatically improved). Clara didn’t really come together as a character for me until the Doctor’s negative influence on her started to take hold that was compelling characterization S7 was missing & I think the basic idea of it works better with the 12th Doctor’s arc of questioning his morality anyway. The 11th Doctor is outwardly jovial, but fully embraces the reality of his dark side

@@nedzed3663 Series 7B had a bunch of like … okay episodes. But the fact that Clara is boring in them makes “this could have been more fun with the original cast 11 was built around” a pretty easy call because the other alternative is “completely rewrite Clara” which is equally dramatic.
I do love all of these changes except for Clara growing up on Trenzalore. Something about it just doesn’t seem right to me. (There is something to be said about having a companion that’s not from Earth for a change, but I just don’t think it works for Clara) I also did like the Clara Oswin reveal in Asylum of the Daleks and wish there’d be some narrative device to explain that while having a different Clara to be a companion to 12
100% percent agree with the pointless changes. I really did grew to dislike the S7B outfit, and I never thought the TARDIS overhaul fit Matt's Doctor (and the title sequence looked awful).

Brian would work in rings of akhatan, we never meet Rory’s mother , could establish her as dead like Clara’s was and have Rory take Clara’s role with the leaf and Amy can take on the role of comforting the queen like Clara did. This would establish a past for Brian expanding his character.

I would’ve said to just introduce her in Deep Breath so she can be the Victorian version of the character like everything says she should have been anyway, but having the Doctor know her as a child on Trenzalore and her know the Doctor as an old man would really cement the “duty of care” relationship between them!
Tbf that’s been my one issue with Clara in the 50th. Her line to 11 “what you’ve always done be a doctor” feels like it would’ve hit way more if a classic companion said that. I can get more behind Mel’s line about every incarnation being fantastic in the 60th by comparison because she at least knew a couple of Doctors prior the anniversary.

Under Moffat though, so hard to know how much was Chibs and how much was the Moff. The showrunner usually has a hand in everything especially the recurring characters
1- It matters that Brian has to play off 11 and the Ponds within two comedy episodes and not characters Chibnall originated within serious episodes
2 - I imagine the process is something like this though.
Showrunner: The main storyline this year is about the Ponds leaving, write me a lighthearted episode about their strained relationship.
Staff Writer: I’d rather be retconning regeneration lore, but I’ll do what the boss says.

Tardis Rebuild: They had little choice on that. Between 7A and 7B, they changed studios - like to the other side of Cardiff or something - and everything had to be rebuilt. So, just rebuild what has already appeared in two and a half seasons? Or build something totally new, which they intended to do soon anyhow.
and I think they needed the 7A TARDIS during filming, during the move. So either delay using the TARDIS in 7B, or build a new one, which would mean no conflicts.
Especially when the glass sculpture in the time rotor was shattered during the move, which was one of the most expensive parts of that tardis.

One downside with the "Clara is a Tranzalore native" idea is that, due to the Doctor's lifespan, you'd have to introduce her in the third act only, making her becoming a companion potentially being rushed.
I always thought the Ponds should have come back for real in Time of the Doctor, being pulled through the crack in time, for 11's last adventure. There's also no way River or Captain Jack would leave the Doctor alone on a planet under siege.
especially when it's apparently believable that River is buried on Trenzalore. Jack I can see as struggling, given he's either already the Face of Boe, or stuck on earth.
But there's a lot of characters who should've been there to help, unless the church kept them all out.

To me this would have made season 7 a lot better. Even though 7a had its problems I still enjoyed it mostly because of how invested I already was in this tardis trio. It’s why despite the ending I really really enjoy the power of three. Because I love their dynamic together.
While Clara with 12 was great she felt very meh and bland for me in 7b (just like that season as a whole). So even if the writing didn’t improve a ton for that season I would have at least enjoyed it more with characters I already had grown to really like.

I like the Trenzalore idea with Clara, Amy pond and Rory stay behind too and look after the people like Susan helped and stay behind in the Dalek invasion of earth while Clara wants to see the universe and the doctor grown warmth with Clara since her youth and looking after her out of trenzalore like a grandfather figure

I love The Ponds. They’re my favorite companions. But I felt s7a wasn’t the best end to their time in the TARDIS (the separation bc of Amy not being able to have kids was a bit odd choice for their arc). I would’ve rather we had a full series with 11 and Clara. Having said that, I would’ve been curious to have The Ponds end in The God Complex.
The criticism that Clara was denied a full year with 11 is alway kind of weird for me because Jenna Coleman is only missing from 4 of 16 episodes.

The Ponds appear in 5. Coleman was not shafted by this structure and she literally became the longest running companion in the entire show. Yaz may have only failed to catch up because of shorter episode orders

Love this! Absolutely do a River Video. This just goes to show, Doctor who really needs to add a Marvel What if style show to the whoniverse. It'd be a really fun way for actors to return without any long term commitment or making any major cannon chances to the main show.

I was a bit tired of the Ponds by the ends of series 6. I like the idea “What If Clara was the companion for all of series 7” much more as it can use the 5 extra episodes to flesh out her character
putting respect on the craig episodes made me instantly respect every single opinion you had. im a craighead to the end---those episodes are both so much fun and also really dive into the doctor's character in a way that many of the more climactic and dramatic episodes fail to do. teenage stormageddon would be a joy to see and the entire craig family dynamic would be a nice parallel/mirror to the ponds and river (a sorta what-could-have-been if they had been able to raise her on the TARDIS which only the doctor would be there to see. there's a lot of potential in that)

Can we time travel to the past and show Moffat this please 😂 It is unfortunate, I always felt Moffats & Matt's run could've given so much more, and it's because of everything you've stated in this. The Ponds should've been there throughout S7, in DOTD (beautiful connection made by @passionateerrors ) , more Brian, and have more from Amy's parents (absurd how they were only in 1 ep!), and end it with the Ponds living in the present on a good note (because good characters people connect with, deserve a good ending).

I've been working on a comic book series called Doctor Who's What If?. The first issue was actually "What if the Ninth Doctor didn't regenerate". In this, The Doctor goes through series 2 and a couple of episodes of series 3. If this were the show, I would move those couple of episodes to the end of series 2. The Doctor would regenerate in "Daleks In Manhattan". Romana would be there investigating some alerts that there is dalekanium there. It would show real growth for the Doctor telling Romana what he did and why he did it. He would then regenerate after a Dalek ray would hit him.
Omg I got emotional listening to this imagining that all that happened. What could be a more satisfying way to end such a beloved era of the show with a beloved tardis team than this?
I always thought the reason Moffat characters disappeared quickly after their stories was because the Doctor hates endings. It makes sense that he would never check in on anyone he cares about after his “need” for them has finished.
My idea for a series 7 arc that keeps Clara's impossible girl storyline while also adding to the Silence and Trenzalore. Clara splinters are a creation of the Timelords as a means to lure to the Doctor to Trenzalore. The Doctor knows his death is there so he avoids that place as much as possible. The Prime Clara would be from Trenzalore, a young woman intrigued by the Doctor and who disiked her home even before the seige occured, it's a boring place. So the want to adventure is there.
The Timelords used her and spintered her to make sure the Doctor would come to Trenzalore plus make sure he didn't die to the Silence along the way who during this series would've gotten more desperate and foolish with their plans. Sometimes they would've succeeded if a Clara splinter hadn't stopped them.
While adding to it, I like the idea that the Doctor had Amy and Rory return home similar to what happened to Rose, he can't risk them getting hurt on Trenzalore. I like the idea the two held out hope for the Doctor's return but got on with thier lives in the end. When the Doctor did return it would be a situation where they're older, they've adopted and settled down fully. They're happy their friend is alive and survived Trenzalore but still gets a smack for sending them away like that no matter what face they have.
I heard that if 9 did series 2 that RTD would have gone more into depth with the time agency and the 5 years of memories that Captain Jack had stolen from him.
The connection between River and Brian is referenced in the Husbands of River Song, as River wields a Sonic trowel...
I never considered the whole “Amy would recognize the 10th Doctor costume” bit. But for me, Clara was still the perfect companion to have around in the 50th Special because of the Impossible Girl thing … which the show just dropped. Nothing was done dramatically with the fact that while Clara was a relatively new character, she was given a unique place in DW lore as a human uniquely placed to understand its history and the concept of regeneration as she too is not the only version of herself. If Amy & Rory are there … I guess we get to see them react to the Time War which was less of a big thing in their time on the show. But for the most part, inserting Amy & Rory into most Series 7B plots would have dramatically improved them from a chemistry perspective. Even though I think there is a strong contingent of viewers who are against any companion being on the show for more than two years. (I’m not one of those people. DW thrives on change, but there is also dramatic potential in not immediately writing out all your characters and letting relationships build.)
I think Death in Heaven could have been a really good final episode for them. The stakes would have been much higher with Rory than Danny, as the audience is much more invested in the relationship. Could have ended with them together in the cloud, maybe combined with River's

The Ponds' ending makes no sense once you think about it. What's to stop the Doctor from landing outside New York, going into the city and then bringing them back?

The problem wasn’t that 11 couldn’t physically reach them. The problem was that extracting them NYC would be interfering with history and would cause a paradox. It would be going Time Lord Victorious again to save them.

Name of the doctor: instead of Clara getting knocked out and inducted into the dream state, it begins with Amy already in the dream talking to the Victorian gang. Then Rory gets added and there is something wrong, he is old. Amy realizes they are dreaming and she is old too. She had just reverted to a younger state in the dream to fake out the audience. Once you realize that they are older, seeing River's ghost brings on new meaning to them. They saw her last week at Brian's funeral but she was a younger version who hadn't even been arrested for the doctor's murder yet. Now they keep asking why she can't visit them in person and she just begs them not to blame the doctor.
Rest of the event's play out normally with Amy and Rory jumping into the doctor's time stream to save him. Instead of getting split up like Clara, they just get sent back a hundred years before the doctor's death on Trensalor.
Then "Day of the doctor" happens with a younger version of Amy and Rory. At the end he tells them to take some time with their family and friends because he knows what will happen to them.
Finally he goes to Trensalor but arrives way to early. By the time Rory and Amy arrive, he is already old too. They contemplate running away but as they are all old now, they decide to live out the rest of their lives there. Of course Rory and Amy die before he does. A young Clara reveals she will one day grow up to crash on the dalek asylum and get converted into a dalek. Not wanting that for her, he decides to change her fate and take her with him, giving him a reason to accept a new regeneration cycle instead of dying as he planned.

So an idea for what the other special in 2013 could be, is maybe it could be Angels Take Manhattan. Now it would have to be in between Day of The Doctor and Time of the Doctor, because I still want them in DOTD, so it would come out sometime in that 4 and a half week gap. And the reason I want it still is because I really really like that episode, it’s one of my favorites, and even tho it’s super sad and they don’t deserve it, I think it’s a great ending and still would work. And then after they are sent to the past, there would be the epilogue showing Brian and stuff (P.S. but live action). And then the next episode would be Time of the Doctor, and River would fill his companion role here basically, and is trying to help him through his grief, and eventually the Doctor grows old on Trenselore (not with River tho, save that for Husbands of RS, just have her pop in and out), and so over time he accepts the loss by the end, in time for 12 to not dwell on it. And I do really like your idea about Clara, that he meets her as a native to trensalore. And yeah I think that would all be great (imo), and the episode that would replace Angels in the series would probably be a Silence / Madame Kovarian centered episode, but maybe having the order changed. Great video man!

With so much extra setup throughout Series 5 & 6, the payoffs should have been HUGE in Series 7, and with lots of room for them to breathe, too! That's what good setup affords you. But instead, every single payoff arrives in The Time of the Doctor like a little afterthought.
It's funny, I can see how the production team thought this would all work on paper. Amy and Rory's exit is _great,_ so introducing a new companion shouldn't be a problem, theoretically. But it turned out that writing them an exit -- however good -- _right_ before all the most important moments of Eleven's tenure completely undercut those moments, and at the last minute too. I completely agree that having the Ponds there throughout -- and more importantly: simply not introducing a shiny new Impossible-Girl-style mystery box -- would have kept the focus on the actual storylines we were expected to follow, and anticipating closure for.
And what's worse: the terrible first impression that Impossible-Girl-Clara made in Series 7 then hampered Capaldi's seasons, and whilst I love them, the show arguably didn't recover its popularity until last year.
Think could have been cool to make Trenzalore/Time of the Doctor a multi episode arc. Actually show the different factions invading, maybe bring back Kovarian and her splinter group. Just build it up more versus showing his stand there and time as a montage and flesh out the Silence and the multiple factions a little more.
Honestly I think it’d work better if Amy & Rory left after The God Complex, Amy’s parents had cameos every now and then, and Brian became Clara’s dad. I think Clara worked well in Day of the Doctor

Day of the Doctor is when I remember Clara coming off as her most generic (which is called out even more when Matt Smith gets to act off David Tennant & you remember what real equal partners in TV leads can do). Earlier episodes gave Clara hints of wit & tragedy & she was just a generic companion character by the anniversary special (despite the fact that Name of the Doctor just made her theoretically the most interesting character to experience the War Doctor through only for the writers to just forget that)
River Song video please. Love this idea! Personally, I like when companions are around for shorter runs as it makes their time more valuable but I think Amy and Rory should’ve been in the final episodes. Pull a Rose with them. 2 seasons in, a bit out then in for finale

Okay someone can explain this to me, so the Doctor can't travel into new york in the tardis to get Amy and Rory, why can't he just land a year before, get a train into new york to get Amy and Rory, take them out, and wait like a year to take them home? From the dialogue it seemed like he only couldn't land in New York.
The TARDIS interior changing wasn’t decided due to losing the Ponds in real life, they changed studios so they had to build a new set due to it being too hard to move the old set.
I always loved the scene where 11 is about to push the button in Day of the Doctor. But now I'm thinking about how much better this scene would have worked if it was Amy was the one that prevented him from pushing it, rather than Clara. Seems like such wasted potential.

I absolutely love this video, everything ive been thinking for years, it makes so much sense this way. One thing i would say is change the majority of 7b episodes . Maybe the husbands of River song as an episode in that. I could see Amy and Rory opening the tower door saying it wasnt locked among other things. I like your nightmare in silver idea with craig and teenage Alfie. I would probably have name, day and time of the doctor as a three parter trilogy finale. Keep Clara as a native of trenzalor and 11 being scottish in honor of amy in his next incarnation. As well as a new tardis in deep breath. I would have if not all 13 episodes in 2012 then 8 and a xmas special in 2012 then 5 plus day and time in 2013
I really like the idea of madam kovarian being the main antagonist... In the name of the Doctor the silence can take the place of the whispermen (is that what they were called, really forgettable) except maybe this time these silence have different motives, answering the question what if the silence weren't just altering history but actively persecuting the doctor

I agree that I like Doctors sharing tardis interiors etc, but in this case that blue-lit interior was awful. Maybe if he had used the later orange-lit Capaldi variant it would have worked

I disagree with the premise, I feel like #11 worked well with Clara, and that the lackluster series 7b had more to do with the writers sidelining her in most of the episodes in an effort to make the Doctor take full center stage. I would guess that this was a command from higher up producers and if Amy and Rory had stayed they would have had less to do in order to make the 50th anniversary exclusively about the Doctor.
I do agree that the pond's needed better closure. That River and Brian need to meet.
But I think that there are other ideas that would have made Clara a much better character, not only simply using the impossible girl concept more often with the Doctor meeting Clara clones more and more intriguingly Clara herself meeting one of her clones
I feel like that’s exactly the problem though and having mainstay companions we know and love would alleviate a lot of the stresses of 7b
I think that 11 did work with Clara, just not as well as with the Ponds and it also felt like we should've had more with them before they left.

I loved this video, I did feel like series was a bit strange, I still to this day haven't seen 'Angels Take Manhattan' because I hold too much love for the Ponds in my heart, and Brian wasn't in too many episodes, he could have been there more, Amy recognising Ten's outfit as the Raggedy Doctor's outfit would have been nice, and in my mind, the Brian and his Grandson scene is in my head canon, Clara could have been teased, like maybe Mickey in series 2, she'd be in a few episodes, but not too many, so when we see her again, she's not too strange, I always preffered Victorian Clara to Prime Clara, plus River being River, it would make sense if she popped up more
I agree, 7b just didn't fit well with everything that came before and felt very tacked on. I love the idea of the whole of Series 7 being devoted to rounding out the Ponds era. One thing that I found particularly interesting was Amy and Rory's marital troubles AOTD. It felt very rushed to me that they were on the verge of divorce only to get back together at the end and everything's fine. It would have been a great subplot throughout the series showing them rebuilding their marriage on equal ground, knowing that they won't have anymore children, and accepting that and each other as they are. That rebuilding of their marriage can culminate in NOTD. In canon, we see the TARDIS come back multiple times for Clara so she can visit Eleven on Trenzalore, but avoid growing old there. Perhaps with the Ponds it starts out that way, where they keep getting dropped off at home and going back to visit, but then they mutually CHOOSE to go to Trenzalore to stay, knowing that they'll never be able to come back, that they'll live out their lives there. The Doctor will eventually stand over their graves (keeping that prediction from TPOT intact), but in a much more natural way. It's sad, but not the complete tragedy that it was in TATM. They lived a long life, defended Christmas and Trenzalore and did a hell of a lot of good. Clara can, as you said, be a Trenzalore native that they take under their wing at some point, and she sticks with the Doctor, and is there for his eventual regeneration into Twelve. (Of course, this would make Clara River's adopted baby sister, which is a whole different bucket of interesting lol.)
I also love the idea of the Ponds being in DOTD. Their presence would in particular be a ray of hope for Ten, who was in his post-JE downward spiral. He'd lost Donna and Rose for good, Martha, Mickey, Sarah Jane, and Jack were all busy living their own lives on Earth (well, Jack's life was in the process of imploding since it's Torchwood, but you get the idea), and he was going a bit bonkers b/c of his own loneliness and arrogance. Seeing his next self happily matched with the Ponds would be a light at the end of the tunnel for him. Just as The Moment chose Rose's form for the War Doctor as a promise, a way of showing him that the sun will shine for him again, that he'd one day travel the universe with a Companion again, the presence of the Ponds would be the same beacon for Ten. Having them be present would have been a hell of a lot more meaningful than Clara, who was more of a plot device in 7b than she was an actual character.

I'd actually prefer it if River stayed as her ghost version in the Name of the Doctor. Think how much harder it would hit for Amy and Rory to find out about her death. To see a gravestone with her name on it. To grapple with the idea that this woman who seems larger than life is still mortal. And to confront the fact that the Doctor knew this all along.
And then have them meet the younger living version of their daughter again in one of the following specials and face the exact same dilemma the Doctor does whenever he spends time with his wife.
Love these ideas so much! But could do without Clara completely then. Bill was a much better companion for 12!!! And yes, more River Iand your video for her, yes!). Would have loved River to be the companion after the Angels story, and the Doctor going back in Time picking up Amy and Rory from their past and them not knowing what the doctor is hiding about their future (maybe Amy could find her letter and the Doctor has to wipe her memory, with River watching), knowing they would leave him in their future / his past (sort of a poetic reversal of the Season 6 opener where they meet a future Doctor, see him die (sort of ) and then meet his earlier self who doesn’t know about the astronaut by the lake). River knows and can’t stand his hurt and gives him a “different” but happy departure for them so to speak, even tho the Doctor knows it’s fake as well.. Long time fans know it’s fake and they’ll truly reunite in the past Dalek story and truly leave in the Angels story, but fans can sort of pick which one they like best and like Amy’s life, we can remember both ways they left. Truly playing the time traveling aspects of the show as far as it has ever gone. Love the idea of Amy meeting 10 and recognizing his clothes!

I really wish that 7b was the Ponds & River aswell as Brian rather than Clara splintering herself through the incarnations. Really did not like the Impossible Girl arc.

Eh, I was pretty glad to see Amy and Rory go. They were good companions, but there for way too long. I actually enjoyed 7B and Clara much more than 7A.

I agree, I felt it at the time when it aired and now upon rewatching it recently. The first half of season 7 is the weakest of the Moffat era, and is sort of a slog. It's not season 1 rewatching slog, I have really soured on season 1 over the years despite how it set up so much new Who going forward. The 2nd half of season 7 is definitely better, but the season overall is my least favorite next to season 1. Clara may as well be another character by Capaldi's first season, that's how it feels. Season 7 is a weird watch man
@@nedzed3663Clara was the thing dragging down Series 7. I am with Full Fat. All these episodes would have been better if we kept the original character dynamics from Series 5 & 6 (or the writing of Clara dramatically improved). Clara didn’t really come together as a character for me until the Doctor’s negative influence on her started to take hold that was compelling characterization S7 was missing & I think the basic idea of it works better with the 12th Doctor’s arc of questioning his morality anyway. The 11th Doctor is outwardly jovial, but fully embraces the reality of his dark side
@TheJadedJames That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. But from my perspective, season 7 dragged down season 7, regardless of if the Ponds or Clara was the companion along for the ride.
@@nedzed3663 Series 7B had a bunch of like … okay episodes. But the fact that Clara is boring in them makes “this could have been more fun with the original cast 11 was built around” a pretty easy call because the other alternative is “completely rewrite Clara” which is equally dramatic.

I do love all of these changes except for Clara growing up on Trenzalore. Something about it just doesn’t seem right to me. (There is something to be said about having a companion that’s not from Earth for a change, but I just don’t think it works for Clara)
I also did like the Clara Oswin reveal in Asylum of the Daleks and wish there’d be some narrative device to explain that while having a different Clara to be a companion to 12
I wish The Ponds' divorce storyline was scrapped. Felt so unnecessary.

100% percent agree with the pointless changes. I really did grew to dislike the S7B outfit, and I never thought the TARDIS overhaul fit Matt's Doctor (and the title sequence looked awful).
I love 11 and the Ponds. They could stay forever and I'd be happy.

Eleven and Clara were beautiful. She was great with Twelve too. While I loved the Ponds, Eleven worked VERY WELL with and without them.

I would definitely have data ghost River still in Name Of The Doctor. I bet he never told Amy he'd seen her daughter die, and I'd like to have her come to terms with that
