Good evening Dave. A few of those influenced my life in many ways too. Although I went back a few years on the AC/DC. My first bought AC/DC album was 'Let There Be Rock' when it was released in 1977. Or was it 1978. Anyways. Motley Crue's second album is great. Replacements anything. Meet Me is my go-to since it made my top twenty songs of all time list. "Can't Hardly Wait". I cannot say enough about it. The vocals. The guitar, the drums, the lyrics, the timings, etc... It hits every superior song mark. I enjoyed this D~

"Can't Hardly Wait" is definitely one of the greatest songs ever written. We're in total agreement on that! Thanks, Rob!

Great video, very entertaining !!!! Also born in 1971, agree with The Replacements, Sonic Youth, Jane's Addiction, AC/DC and The Who. I would add The Police, The Clash, The Smiths and The Cure.

The Police were big for me as a kid. I didn't really get into The Cure, The Smiths, and even The Clash, later in life.

Very diverse group of records. I've thought about this thread, but am not sure I will do it. But, I enjoyed your choices.

Excellent list! Man, I wish I knew you in high school. I loved Ramones Mania. I can’t remember if I bought that or Brain Drain first. But I played that record so much and it remains one of the best comps ever for me. I’m actually going to do a little addendum to mine. Forgot a few that were so essential. Including Nothing’s Shocking.

We should do some type of collab video where we talk about this kind of stuff. Meaning, old foundational stuff that people are almost shocked to discover we liked: GnR, Motley Crue etc.

@@Thedarkstuff Love that idea. So much of it’s an age thing. People who were just a few years older when some of those records came out ended up scratching their heads.

Hi Dave. I'm not into hip-hop as a genre, but that Public Enemy album is undeniable. Not only have I not heard any Missing Persons or Firehose records, I've never actually heard OF them...will have to do some catching up there! I remember borrowing Back in Black on tape from a friend of mine at school and listening to it for the first time on my Sanyo Walkman, sitting on the wall outside my parents' house...these kind of memories never die. I just re-listened to Work Book by Bob Mould the other night, fantastic album with great lyrics. I didn't know about the Richard Thompson influence. I was reading up about the band that was on the album and apparently the drummer ended his life by voluntary euthanasia in Swiss clinic a few years after recording the album. Assume you know who the couple is on the cover of Goo?

Really??! Never even heard of Missing Persons? That is surprising. I guess I assumed the band had some level of success in the UK, but maybe not. The musicians in the band - other than Dale Bozzio - were in Frank Zappa's band in the late 70. fIREHOSE is less surprising to me. Mike Watt himself sometimes seems to forget he was in that band. Their first three albums were on SST, and the last two on Columbia. In the US, anyway. No idea who the couple on Goo is. I do know that the artist is Raymond Pettibon who did a lot of art for SST Records. His brother is Greg Ginn of Black Flag.

The couple are Maureen Hindley and David Smith, two key witnesses at the 'Moors Murder' trial of Myra Hindley (Maureen's sister) and Ian Brady. They murdered some kids and buried them on the Yorkshire moors in the 1960s. it was immortalized in the Smiths song 'Suffer Little Children'. I only found about it a couple years ago when I did a video about album artwork and started doing some research!
