Great video as usual…in your channel ! Box of rain…bring me tears always and it is link to road too. In French we are saying : only roads are beautiful
lol definitely an interesting discussion. A few surprise picks there! Probably for me: Neil Young Harvest; Beatles White Album; Van Morrison Into The Music. Always great content on this channel, luv it.
"Changed your life" is an incredibly high standard. There aren't too many albums that've truly changed my life, but here goes: ▪︎ Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles): hearing this at the age of 8 or 9 sent me off on a path of being a music nerd. ▪︎ Are You Experienced (The Jimi Hendrix Experience): hearing this as a teenager made me want to pick up the guitar. ▪︎ Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan) and Decade (Neil Young): these 2 LPs were my introductions to Bob Dylan and Neil Young, respectively. They made me realize just how high the bar had been set, songwriting-wise. ▪︎ Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd): this album was a "eureka moment" as to what it's possible to achieve sonically. ▪︎ Kaya (Bob Marley) and Regatta de Blanc (The Police): these 2 LPs sent me down the rabbit hole of reggae music, a genre I still love and listen to a lot. ▪︎ War (U2): this album's "militant pacifism" had a big effect on my worldview. ▪︎ Nevermind (Nirvana): I'm a born-and-raised Seattle kid and this album came out just as I was entering my first year of college. It was like an atomic bomb going off and leveling the city. It had a huge effect on what I was listening to for many years after.
I really like how you laid this out. I'm thinking that you were born in 1970. I'm probably a little off. I was born in '66. I was in the Kiss Army (newsletter) during elementary school in Indianapolis. Great video Neil. Glad I'm subscribed
Cool idea for a video. Nice call on Live Rust! Loved that record. For me a few that stand out are Tale Spinners Sinbad the Sailor, a story record with narration and music by Rimsky Korsakov. Who's Next ( the first album I ever bought with my own money). An English punk mix tape my ex brother in law made me. REM - Murmur ( my intro to getting into current underground music). Younger than Yesterday and Surrealistic Pillow ( my intro to folk rockers go psychedelic music). Charles Mingus Town Hall Concert from 1964 w Eric Dolphy. Mindblowingly innovative jazz with side-long pieces that are equal to classical music in complexity, but still swing.
Great video an as usual. One note: Star Wars was released on VHS in 1982. Empire was released in 84 and Jedi in 86. I still have my original copies (with no way to play them), along with the vinyl for Empire and Jedi. Vinyl for the first movie has gone missing or, more likely, was worn out by me at some point.
The Monster Mash, Meet the Beatles, Freak Out, Are You Experienced, Disraeli Gears Songs of Leonard Cohen, In a Silent Way, After the Gold Rush, Meddle, Yellow Fields
Great video, always enjoy listening to your enthusiasm and positivity about music new and old. Love American Beauty/Reality too. Yeah I remember the awesome day when it was possible to rent Star Wars from the video store! 15 artists (had to stop there) below and the albums by them that had a major impact on my life from an early age, listed roughly chronologically. Would be too long to go into reasons why! A-ha: Scoundrel Days The Beatles: The Blue Album Deacon Blue: When the World Knows Your Name The Police: Synchronicity/Best Of Bruce Springsteen: Tunnel Of Love Sting: Dream of Blue Turtles/Nothing Like The Sun U2: Achtung Baby REM: Automatic for the People Smashing Pumpkins: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Pearl Jam: No Code Nirvana: In Utero Sparklehorse: Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot Radiohead:The Bends/OK Computer/Kid A Bob Dylan: Love & Theft/The Basement Tapes Arcade Fire: Funeral
