Fantastic post Dave. The one that I would add to the list is the Doors and the Beach Boys. I kind of knew where you were going with the top three. Anyone who has been a long time viewer to your channel should be familiar with your appreciation of the Replacements and Kiss. Would it be fair to honestly admit that you could have flipped a coin with the two of them for the number one position? I probably would have chosen The Ramones over Sonic Youth too. You set the rock and roll bar very high Dave. Your passion and knowledge of great music is always appreciated~ Rob/Boston
Great video Dave, thanks for sharing. I am missing Superchunk in your list. You forgot? Or truly not qualifying for top 15 at your end? Big hug from Asturias, Northern Spain
I wouldn't fight any of the picks on your list. The five I would add are Big Star, Metallica, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Grateful Dead.
I think I messed up by not including Metallica. With no disrespect to the Heartbreakers, I didn’t choose Petty because I saw him more as a solo artist.
Since you mentioned Sly & the Family Stone, have you seen the Sly episode of my other channel, Rock N Roll Book Club ua-cam.com/video/ihlmDVPujPY/v-deo.htmlsi=UHZ71i1hTi5Z3MVh
Enjoyed the video and your opinions. I like most of your picks, but have to say the only ones that I have no interest in are Van Halen, Kiss and Aerosmith ( except their early stuff). Just not my cup of tea.
Any list with Husker n Replacements in the top 5 is a great list. I doubt they show up on most lists let alone that high. Sonic youth is about all I could debate I would need a lil Metallica Minute men are great tough one but I would maybe swap with X
I saw Aerosmith live in the late 80s. What a boring show. Not quite as boring as New Order however. I saw Soundgarden at Lallapalooza that Metallica headlined. I was blown away at how good Soundgarden were. I think the Minutemen were better live than their studio albums. I like Sonic Youth but I think Big Black and Butthole Surfers are better. This was a very good list. I must admit I missed The Replacements.
I liked Aerosmith in 1987 when I saw them live. Never saw Minutemen live, unfortunately, but saw fIREHOSE 6 or 6 times. I like Big Black and the Surfers, but I definitely like Sonic Youth more than both, without question. I only saw BH Surfers one time -- opening for Nirvana in January 1994 in an arena.
Ridiculous that I have an opinion different than yours? Why? Is yours the only true opinion? The only right answer? Of course not. You are stuck in the 1960s. Maybe listen to a record newer than the Nixon Administration. There is a 0% chance that the Ventures have sold 250 million albums. That is made up bullsh!it. Even if it were true, who cares. It's not a popularity contest. Hendrix is a solo artist, not a band. The Beach Boys are, maybe, the most overrated band in musical history. I have no issue with the Byrds.

Thanks, Rob. You're right, my numbers one and two are pretty much interchangeable.

I threw the list together quickly. Superchunk is definitely up there. If I did it again, they would probably be on the list.
I'm glad to see VU on the list! REM I think is a great choice as well (and probably would be missed by many).
Surprised by how few of these videos include R.E.M. Feels almost mandatory to me.
Add the Beat Farmers to my list. I just watched them play Powderfinger live.
Decent band, but never really had much of an impact on me.

Hmmm...tough assignment. X, CCR, The Byrds and Sly and the Family Stone would be on my list...

Rainmakers would be on my list. Bob Walkenhorst has to be one of the greatest and most underrated songwriters ever.
I like them, but not enough for this list

Metallica was an oversight, for sure.
Husker Du and Replacements didn’t make my list. X are better than Minutemen. I think the Minutemen were much better live than their studio albums.
@@vinylrichie007 but sonic youth made your list?
@ They did?
@@vinylrichie007 you should consider re-evaluating!

Ridiculous list. What about The Ventures, who sold over 250 million albums? The Byrds, the Beachboys, Hendrix, The Doors..Etc.
