I'm a few months short of 80 years old. I have enough hip pain that when I get out of bed in the morning I can barely walk. *But...,* after I complete my daily exercise routine that includes seven strength exercises alternating with seven stretch exercises, the pain is 80-90% gone and I have no impingement that limits what I can do. The stretches include: a three-minute kyphosis hold; the cross-knee push like you demonstrated early in this video 10 reps each leg with a five second hold; a one-minute bridge hold; knees to chest 10 reps each leg with a five second hold; right, left, forward stretch on knees for as far as I can reach on a 65 cm yoga ball 20 reps; 60 standing side kicks 30 each leg; and finally a repeat of the kyphosis exercise. FWIW, the 10-20% pain remaining is almost background, I don't feel it unless I actually think to feel if it is there. This works well for me.

There's a supplement I take, Active joint platinum, if I don't take it I get chronic pain. Taking it I have loads less pain. You may want to try it? (I don't work for them, I have osteoarthritis since 13 yo, and psoriatic arthritis, along with osteopenia in my left hip. I go to the gym and regularly ride my bike, and walk.

I was told to stay off of my feet or do the absolute bare minimum for 6 months (minimum), which as a mum of 4 is impossible, whilst my Physio worked on "injuries". I lasted a month and couldn't keep going, it made lil improvement, but I wanted something long term. Then last year I came across your videos (even commenting on others) and got significantly better and no longer in crippling pain. This past weekend I entered a State Tournament for Karate and walked away a State Champ for the 35-44 women's combined 6th-4th Kyu Kumite and got gold. Considering I was needing to be carried basically everywhere by my husband I never would have thought I would do Karate, enter tournaments and win medals. The thought alone, just a short nearly 2 years ago, would have been laughable. Thank you Matt for your videos

@@sagedakotalmft7763 As Matt has always said in his videos, 'slow is safe, fast is foolish'. I know of so many people whom are wanting immediate results, and end up giving up instead of continuing. But if you do his videos at least 3 times a week or as much as you can muster, you will most definitely see results. Just the fact that I found better relief through his videos than I ever did from specialists. I even had a Neurosurgeon say to me that I apparently didn't wanna get better because I refused to take the surgery option and I'm so glad I didn't.

Excellent video! Thank you. I needed this confirmation to continue working with my body to avoid surgery or other disabling treatments following issues/injuries to rotator cuffs (both sides), lower back, neck, carpal tunnel, knees, planar fascitis. I've been successful working on my own, learning online and listening to my body, plus finding a gifted deep tissue massage therapist who understands and supports my goals. I've learned much from you and adopted several daily routines from your presentations. Every one of my friends have had so many of those surgeries, some more than once (knees, rotator cuffs, hip replacements). I will continue to educate myself and take action to avoid the standard medical/surgical path, especially for people my age. (Really, it feels like they see a big walking dollar sign when I enter a medical office.) I'll be 82 on Sunday, and so far, so good! Thanks again.

I want to share my experience which is a bit different. I’m in Canada.
After seeing GP, started physio, months later no improvement.
Surgeon I saw actually recommended I do a strengthening routine before considering the surgery. I was impressed. But no real improvement. Did CT scan. Showed tear, and deformity in hip and pretty severe arthritis. Surgeon actually recommended replacement instead of arthroscopic (he was actually only an arthroscopic surgeon so didn’t do replacements). Impressed. He wasn’t in it for himself. He actually said arthroscopic was only 60-70% of fixing it. So saw a full replacement surgeon. He said no!!! Basically Said I wasn’t disabled enough. Said I would likely need replacement in a few years.
Since I had tried exercises I was given without results I had the arthroscopy. While I’ve improved it’s not great. So saw different surgeon who asked if I wanted replacement. I said yes as I’d tried everything I was told.
Currently in the queue for surgery.
So not all surgeons are bad.
I have literally just signed up for Matt’s hip program.
I will update in a month and share my results.

20 years ago i hurt my right knee by abruptly start running at 7.5 mph. Years of biking, swimming, yoga, weight lifting, elliptical machine did not prevent my knees from hurting. Those low-impact movements had made my knees weak for years. 20 years later, now I can run, jump without any knee problems. I can perform Asian squat, too. Resting was making more problems in my case. The cure to my knee problem was slow-running (5 mph) to rebuild strength and stimulate/put moderate stress on my knee joints and legs. I do not like running, but I learned from my experience that I need to keep running to keep my knees strong and mobile while keep doing biking, swimming, yoga, weight lifting, CrossFi, martial art. But no more elliptical machine for me.

This is one of your more ramble-ee videos and one of my favorites so far. Be careful, though, about admitting you were lying to your doctor (as a professional study or for whatever reason), as your provider could accuse you of insurance fraud and, e.g., make you cover the MRI in full or even drop you.

I have been dealing with, what started out as, tightness and mild sciatica down my right leg. Fast forward 6 months with countless doctor visits, PT, orthopedic visits, I now am using a cane to walk, I cannot extend my leg when I sit, let alone stand. I have a round low back and am awaiting an MRI to see if I have a disc bulge. I can barely internally rotate my leg and am in excruciating pain.
I’m only 34, very active, health conscious and was planning on trying out for a baseball team in the spring of 25. Now I’ll be happy if I can put my socks on while sitting.
The healthcare system has failed me and I can’t help but be infuriated.

Nope, that is insurance speaking 100%. I went through 4 different injuries this year and no matter what the docs would do or recommend, insurance required an x-ray and PT before an orthopedic doctor could even look at me. Ridiculous. Especially when the injuries were obviously soft tissue. It's a joke. It sadly makes PT a joke.
Most credible docs recognized that to know anything helpful I needed an MRI and a consult with an ortho, but would insurance listen?

Last time in 2018 I had an xray on my hip dr told me I had no arthritis. At age 29 I fractured the ball and socket in 1989 Required 2 pins in the socket. .I had the issues where I couldn't sit for extended periods and the clicking along with some pain for the last two decades. I have CFS also so very limited in exercises and stretches I can do. Still the little bit of stretching I did made a world of difference. My hope is to go to my grave without a replacement or any unwarranted or unnecessary type of surgery. Have back issues that I have also treated with traction and exercises. To my dr's defense he did send me home with a pamphlet on just those things which I ignored to my own detriment.

Maybe he didn't let your leg drop down more because he was concerned if it was super tight it might tear something? I suppose he could have slowly lowered it a bit more and ask you how it felt before continuing to lower it. When my hip flexors were at their worst that would have hurt me quite a bit to drop my leg down with my other leg up like that. I've been struggling with hip flexor and psoas muscle tightness for 2 to 2 & 1/2 months as of mid Dec. Unfortunately the horrible pain in my hips has made it impossible to exercise and strengthen the muscles around that area, so it has been a Catch-22 with this problem, where I get tighter and stiffer and weaker. Have been getting chiro adjustments and stretching of the flexors, etc., and finally am able to stretch further on my own and have been able to walk a little bit. Next week am hoping to take part in a gentle yoga class. I feel like if I don't do something in the way of exercise soon I will lose my muscle tone and all that I've built up over the past year. I realized it was 2 particular exercises that are the likely culprit, and hopefully this won't happen again when I go back to exercising more regularly.
Thank you for your videos! Am trying everything to get better ASAP and hopefully your tips will help! BTW, Wounded Warrior is a great project! Thank you for your donation to help our veterans and active duty members.

Thank you for this video. I really needed to hear this to help with my own resolution with all the medical gaslighting.
Over the last few years I've collected injuries that just won't go away. Hips, shoulders, ribs, jaw, neck, and back. I'm living evidence rest makes it worse. I've done ages of injections and drugs, but there aren't enough properly trained PTs too help either.
Typically, insurance requires upon any complaint that the patient must get an x-ray and go through at least 6 weeks of PT. I'm a fan of PT when you see someone really gifted and well-trained. Sadly, most of these people are usually DPTs, and their job is to get you off their schedule as soon as the second visit and working with a PT our even worse, a medical assistant. The way things are set up has really been a disservice to the profession.
I've found the trick to healing, if you're lucky, is finding those really gifted, intuitive practitioners who take the time to hear you over time. Listening times time equals knowing how to help people.

It had Done so before and I had manage to fix it but this time it wouldn’t. This specialist on ortopedia decided to give me a cast (I didn’t get a cast 15 years earlier). I had to have the cast for a couple of weeks and when it got removed the elbow was still locked. I had to meet several more specialists and all asked why the frost doctor had given me a cast, no one could understand why. Very soon after my shoulder started to hurt and I lost that movement. I had gotten frozen shoulder as a result of her giving me the cast.

There is even a video somewhere on UA-cam that if you cannot put on your socks on the left or right in the same way, you probably have Arthrits.
The faber test is sometimes painful in my right leg, but sometimes not. My 90-90 stretch is quite painful on the left side when I go deep into internal rotation, but external rotation is more flexible than the right. Still, after a lot of stretching, I still have pain the next day. that I prefer to stick to movement exercises and skip testing.

But here's where I have a problem with this theory and I would like someone to explain this if they can: based on what you're saying shouldn't all people (or most of them) who sit most of the time and have no activity, have problem with range of motion and muscles? Cause I know most of my friends sit all the time, don't do any sports or exercise, but they can do with their hips what they want... no pain, no pinching, no restriction whatsoever. And me in my 40s (I'm in IT so I do sit a lot), but played all kind of sports, hiking, biking... and now have limited ROM. So, what's up with that?

@@whisperingwings852 I totally agree 😊 Matt speaks from the heart and from his own experience and he has tremendous knowledge. I love his passion and encouragement - it keeps me going because it's not easy. Thank you Matt ❤️

Do you have next progressions for a rotated pelvis? I had hip labral surgery a year and a half ago and have done physical therapy since then but I can still feel it’s rotated. Please help 🥲
