Best way to get rid of hip pain:
      1. Stretch by sitting up straight and putting a foot on opposite knee and pushing knee down. You can do it laying down, but sitting has a better stretch.
      2. Lower body Pilates exercises, running up/down stairs, power walking.
      3. Magnesium lotion

I was told to stop, too. No stair climbing and I had to stop running. I have left hip displaysia, bone on bone and bone spurs. I stopped all exercising and stretching out of fear. BIGGEST mistake. Now I'm rebuilding thanks to you! 🙏 Denise Austin used to say (and probably still does) "If you rest, you'll rust. If you don't use it, you'll lose it."

My mother in law had a hip replacement not too long ago. Just last week she was gardening and apparently just was trying to bend over or something, and her femur popped out of the socket. Her neighbor found her and called 911. The Dr said it's common if you've had a hip replacement! The X-ray looked brutal. I've been having some hip pain just recently. I have a desk job, play soccer once a week and hike. Every PT I've seen told me I have really tight hips and I apparently have FAI. So this is truly a wakeup call for me. Guys the only one who can really take care of you is _you_. You have to put in the work, challenge yourself, and stay consistent.

After my spinal surgery, I was banned from almost everything in rehab. Well, then I went to private therapy and everything was different there - I could move around and overcome the obstacles in my head that they put in my head in rehab. My hips and the muscles in my lumbar region were completely contracted and my mobility was limited. The only way to fix this is to move.

Everything you said is so on point. After a traumatic tibia accident & surgery I was non weight bearing for 3 months, then slowly progressed to full weight bearing. Long story short, the amount of atrophy in my TFL (MRI imaging) has been severe and it has been a very long road to getting it all back. You need to keep it all moving (even if it's uncomfortable) - it's amazing how many parts of the body were affected by my months of inactivity.

  • @SaraMastros

I had almost the exact opposite experience. I had an (apparently undiagnosable) very painful and crippling hip injury. Doctors pushed me into very painful physical therapy immediately, and the pain just got worse and worse. I cried during physio every day, the pain was so bad. After a few months, I stopped listening to doctors and listened to my body, and took two weeks off, lying as still as possible as much as possible, and my hip healed. Then, once I had given it some time to heal, I started gently stretching and exercising, and it's now almost the whole way better.

    • @marrusic7898

Moving more can sometimes make things worse but it all depends. I had a severely weakened and atrophied glute medius. If I attempted to walk too much on it my hip would burn out and hurt more the next day. Key for me was moving the right amount anywhere from 800-2000 steps and just keep building up strength in the glute medius via side lying hip abduction. The dose for those was crucial as well. I kept going too close to muscular failure and would restrain the glute med and piriformis. I had to practice perfect form and stop well short of any kind of failure. This was hardest part for me. When your in pain or disabled rehab should only be done at 6/10 exertion maybe even lower when just starting out. Also exercises should be 2/10 scale at most in the beginning.

Thank you! This is an amazing video!! Thank you Jenny for sending this to me.. yes I’m 2 out of 3 of PRP injections and my 3rd is this month and you are so right because I’m now entering my 10th month of pain and also I have pinched nerves (EMG results) so I’m on gabapentin (Neuro NP) but with PRP I cannot take any anti-inflammatories and basically I’ve been feeling like I’m being tortured and my naturopathic dr never asks about my pain level so I’m my only advocate. I’m trusting in God to keep showing me what is best and I declined hip replacement after they used a cortisone injection for diagnostic purposes which was a joke, & went to PRP so after PRP is done in hip & low back and after 2 treatments I’m trying to believe the final treatment will make less pain but EVERYTHING you said is so true and I’ve been bending as tol to pick up dog poop, weeds, clean dog crates (omgosh bending down onto knees to clean vomit off floor of crate…omgosh getting UP off the floor is awful but I talk myself through it & succeed…would I do this daily??? Not unless I was told to. Basically yes I have osteoarthritis in rt hip and back and degenerative disc disease entire spine and after I took 5 pickleball classes & moved EVERYTHING w help away from all window areas in my home boom this pain came in my groin & thigh and my thigh was licking everytime I tried to stand so no doctor knew what it was locking but naturopathic did boom it was my quadricep cap and I taught myself ballet moves that would unlock it and now after platelets that licking is gone but now I have a generalized hip pain upon standing and once I can get into a position to stretch my groin boom I can walk. I’ve graduated from crutches to Walker to just me now and my mri originally read by radiologist said I had a hip fracture in the acetabulum but the surgeon looked at same me mri & said no fracture and that my symptoms are worse than my mri so hip replacement would take away all my pain but not the locking of my thigh🤷🏼‍♀️ so when the naturopathic said my platelets could heal my hip, low back and pinched nerve pain…I went for it. So see you are correct. I thought I had pulled my groin muscle post pickleball classes and window prep but then orthopedic Dr said it was hip do here I am 9 completed months further STILL hurting, so many muscles getting weaker and I feel like I’m at the end of my life at only 71 years old but this video is giving me hope. I did ask my pcp for a PT referral again to my PT lady I love to help me strengthen my other muscles along with my hip & back cuz I’m tired of doing nothing but being a Guinea pig. I think I’m a rare person not responding to PRP and I need to realize that possibility and now you’ve given me hope. Thank you🥰🙏👍

Very appropriate. I have complaints and have had an MRI. There was no damage visible, but cartilage seemed very thin for my age (41). Since I heard this I have been very anxious, the feeling of walking on eggshells not to force anything. The result is now really serious complaints, especially in the other leg than what the MRI was actually for. Because the lady said that with a leg length difference, the longer leg is more likely to cause problems. It's mental, but I can't figure it out.

Lots of truth in this video! Most of my issues have stemmed from sitting for long hours at work and at home over many years. But It wasn't until I found a physiotherapist who gave me the right exercises I needed, that my severe pain went away, (with improvement noticeable in a matter of days!). It turned out that because I am hyper mobile I mostly needed strengthening exercises combined with only a few specific targeted stretches.
The previous therapists I had seen (including chiro & massage) did not take my hyper mobility into account, so I wasn't helped because the treatment they gave was wrong for my body. If your therapist keeps you coming back multiple times and over a long period of time (and you are doing the exercises they instructed you to do) but you are not improving, then they are not diagnosing your problem correctly! Find a therapist who understands your body's weaknesses, strengths and symmetry (or lack of.)
Now, I'm trying to be more active to avoid further issues down the road but it's a challenge due to our tech and media orientated society.

I've had several bouts of labral tears in my left hip. I understand I have an imbalance in my glute muscle area. I hope you don't mind me asking if you're do-it-yourself class will address how to improve this. I saw the hip specialist who just dismissed it and said I'll be due for a hip replacement in a couple years and of course I want to avoid that. Dear Matt, I will pay you for information on how to help myself, could you help me. I injured me left leg when I slipped on moss, 5 months ago, I continued to do everything normally but with some pain, I had to carry large amounts of water a long distance which made the pain worse, that was 5 months ago, now I can hardly walk without extreme pain, and uneven surfaces are not good. I am extremely flexible, and can do squats and touch my toes easily, but can’t walk very far or I’m in extreme pain . I feel like all the ligaments or muscles in the back of my leg got stretched out and the front of my leg is shortened, as a matter of fact when I stand straight up my left knee won’t go back as far as my right. I’m listening to your videos and trying hip exercises but I’m left in extreme pain after a little exercise. The only thing that takes away my pain is VOLTAREN and anti inflammatory drug , that I don’t want to take . Is there anything you recommend. PLEASE IM SO DESPERATE, LIFE IS NOT WORTH LIVING WHEN YOUR IN SO MUCH PAIN

I truly would appreciate the advice/info you share for me. I’ve lost my trust in Doctors. All they do is give you meds and want to do surgery, but to me it’s a bandage, and not getting to the root.

My third urologist told me that my pelvic pain was just gonna be like that forever because of my age. He said, "Sometimes pain just happens and we can't explain it." I then had to fight to get a referral for a pelvic floor therapist. Within 10 day of seeing my PFT and doing the exercises and stretches she gave me, 90% of my pain disappeared. It was fucking life changing.
Btw my first two urologists didn't even mention pelvic floor therapy (which I didn't even know existed till after my 2nd urologist) and simply tried to give me meds to mask the pain which didn't work. Their final hail mary was just getting nerve blocker shots in my pelvic region. I didn't do that shit. I definitely learned that the majority of traditional primary care doctors and even specialists don't know SHIT when it comes to the actual muscles in the human body and how they can affect your nerves and pain. They know medicine. They don't know healing.

A hip replacement can be a huge quality of life issue for many people. Giving up hiking, traveling and other activities that make life enjoyable for some can be very depressing. I spent a year and a half on crutches with torn hip cartilage before my replacement and couldn’t do much of anything. Even now, 10 years later, despite many months of PT, my left leg is weaker than my right. But I can hike, travel and mostly do what I want.
