The P Lynamii is such a beautiful plant ~ it has one of my favourite leaf shapes. Those new red roots & shoots are wonderful! ~ can't wait to see how it travels along and throws up new leaves in that ideal rectangular container. The perfectly round mossy root ball of the P. Lynette made me smile (so cute). It looked like a mini kokebana! Lovely video :)

This was an interesting video. Can’t wait for updates on how the Lynette grows in the moss.

Might try it in one of my brothers plants! Lol. You have a crisscrossing crawling plants that you planted a while ago, one on each side so as they grow the cross each other, i think in a similar pot. Would like to see how they are doing.

This is sooo helpful! Thanks for sharing! I still want to do this with my fiddle leaf fig. It is taller and shooting out growth. Beautiful plants, Jeff. 😊

Jeff, you make some truly amazing and sometimes unique videos. Granted, I dove into indoor plants only 9 months ago, although I have had some experience from decades ago.
I always learn something new and fun. Like the prop balls. I've heard of them but haven't seen them in action, so to speak. And "crawling" plants? You could have knocked me over with a feather!! Way 😎 cool! Thank you ever so much!!

@EverythingPlants Following your channel is a pleasure and so educational. I wish you hadn't hipped me to "crawling" plants, though, because now I've gotta git me one!! 😁

The rooting balls I have do have a larger opening in one end. This should be upwards so you can add water into the ball as needed. Of course, the hard part is that you can't tell too well, just how dry the ball and forming roots are. All trial and error but if you don't overwater, everything comes out fine.

I've been experimenting with using tree fern fiber instead of sphag moss for the air-layering ball/bag. The problem I had with sphagnum was trying to tell the difference between roots and the moss sometimes and I'd end up harming the roots in the process of removing the moss.

    • @EverythingPlants

Ya.....that is definitely the downside if moss

You have quite the knack for making videos about what I’m currently pondering! I’ve just put my verrocosum onto a Kratiste pole and I’m thinking I will air layer with a pod when it’s getting close to the top of the pole. What do you think?

Hi Jeff! The first time I ever tried air-layering was in ‘77 with my rubber tree (ficus). It worked great! I didn’t know what spaghnum (sp?)moss was back then, so it was potting soil from the ‘dime’ store back then. It worked great! My question to you- how or where do you put the plants that need monitoring like this? I always seem to let them get TOO dry to survive, at one point or another.

Hope to get an update on the plant in sphagnum moss. I know in urban Japan, they use sphagnum moss to grow their indoor plants.

Hey Jeff!! Would this method work on Dieffenbachia's and Aglaonema's?? Very interesting video today. I recently revamped my shelving system in my south facing kitchen window with 3 towers of black metal shelves with the middle one for tall and hanging plants, it looks awesome!! Even my non-plant-friendly husband likes it all much better than what I had there. I also bought one of those tall standing grow lights 48" and I love it! I even went back and got another one at 24" And I had a really lucky day at Home Depot last week and got a giant, beautiful, flawless Peace Lily for only $16!!! It's the biggest plant I ever bought. Normally it would have been like $48. Now I want to give this method a try. I will let you know how it goes!!

    This is brilliant.
how long should i keep soil moist for new transplants?
    do you recommend pre-moistening soil?
would it help to let young roots dry out for a few hours or overnight to harden?

Jeff, as always your videos are super informative!
I wanted to ask if anyone has tried this type of propagation but using perlite.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  7 місяців тому

Thanks! Unless it is sealed right up, I think perlite would dry up too fast.

Jeff, love how you share experiments, comparisons with us. Did I miss it: how long were each of these methods in moss? Was the commercial ball faster than the baggie, for example? (not direct comparison cuz different plants but I'd love having an idea of the patience factor, esp. since they need to be kept moist). Thx.

Since you're not busy or anything with your own life... Can you drive all the way here and repot my pot of mixed pothos that is constantly dying back? 😬 Fine... I'll do it myself but only BC i know it's a long drive 🤷🏼‍♀️
Do they make tiny balls for this? Like so you could do hanging out trailing plants that have thin stems, out ultra thin stems like string of plants?

  • @xkorbekx

I have them on my Amazon Canada page....I have a USA one as well. The links are in the description of the videos. I don't think I have them on the USA one right now, but just search air layering pods
