Today's sawing progress. This was the red oak log (part of it) that I split in the last video. I was able to harvest some nice wide quarter sawn boards from the timber. More on this and additional sawing tomorrow.

thanks!
going back through, finding the older videos before the drying shed. love the tunes added to these

My goodness, that oak looks AMAZING. Just shows to go you that sawing technique is a huge part of the character of any finished piece of woodworking or carpentry.

Beautiful Wood. Sure makes all the effort to split the logs worth it.
thanks, it was indeed well worth it,
My brother has this wood going all the way up to the second story, always captures your imagination
Awesome video and work! I've never used QS red oak but I have done quite a bit with QS white oak and it's always a pleasure to work with. Great pic with the t-shirt at the end too!
+fartfully thanks. The wood turned out good. Good looking young woodworker in that pic!
Ohio quarter sawn oak.... I used to buy white quarter sawn from Jim Graff out your way back in the 80s. Milled into flooring 4" & 5" and selected for the wide stripes. I could ask anything I wanted for it and got into some of the finest homes in the country. I still love the sight of high quality quarter sawn today and even have a little collection that I make furniture and smaller decor pieces out of for friends and family only.
Very nice 👍. Love 1/4 sawn oak .
Thanks buddy
Ive watched this a few times, cant get enough,
+Kevin Sullivan 👍

Looks good; we come up that way every now and then to Holmes County and have come over to Canton. I'm a retired bricklayer and we came over to visit the Brick plant(s). Hope to see more from you all soon, Greg.
Thanks Greg, I appreciate the comment and your time, have a great weekend,
You'l have to excuse my ignorance as I was thinking about the picture of the two in Canton, OH. I live in Southern Ohio; thanks for reading the comments and making an effort to answer, Greg.

+outinthewood thanks!
Great video as all ways, some really beautiful Oak, are you drying in the kiln yet.
+Raymond Hodge thanks. Not yet soon though.
A lot of work to obtain good quarter sawn boards, but well worth it.
yes it was, thanks for watching!
I like your accent man. :)
+markcocjin thank you and thanks for watching
I would have liked to see how you handled the quarters that you cut off. What did you do with them, saw them as rift? Is there a way to turn and get QS out of these as well or will they end up rift sawn. Thanks for doing this.
You've got me beat bro. My log is only 9 inchs long :(
way to show your intelligence,
nice video, i thought i had the understanding how to cut quarter sawn lumber with a band mill then someone posted a video they was flipping the log round and round haha, Your video confirmed i was thinking right . Thankyou
Good deal. Thanks for watching!
There are multiple ways to cut quartersawn wood, including the way you mention, with flipping the log. It depends on how large the diameter is and what the growth rings look like. In this video, the wood is quartersawn towards the bark side, and more rift-sawn towards the pith, except for the one that is right from the center of the log.
Have you ever tried sowing red oak acorns?
Beautiful wood.
Can you share which blade you prefer and why ( double hard or ? ). And which pitch.
+Jody Martin thanks.
Double hard 7degree. Great all around blade.
Thanks for watching
Nice!
....13
+arkansas13 thanks!👍
How thick are you cutting your boards? Beautiful oak lumber, I know I really enjoy my mill. I need to try more 1/4 sawing. Thanks for sharing.
Those were sawed at 5/4 with my goal of a finished board after drying/planing to be 3/4
Thanks for watching,
When looking at an antique exterior door how can I be certain if it was quarter sawn. The grain is pronounced but is there a definite indicator? Thanks
Do you go back and resaw the pie cuts that you pushed off? Or too much effort given the lack of width? We have 1000 acres of white oak to salvage from a solar farm effort. Going to be a lot of quartersawing for us this year...
Very good looking slabs!! Did I see dinner later this year?? ;)
+Russell Anderson fist buck of the year at my place.
fantastic quartersawn oak. i do not see any mineral in the boards. where did you cut this log ?
Northeast TN
The future home of..Another out of the woods project. See us on utube.
+Ed Deetz 👍👍👍👍👍
I have really enjoyed your videos. There is something about seeing a tree turned into some fantastic working materials. What part of TN do you live?
+Jesse Hankins thanks.
I am in East TN.
+Out of the Woods Around the tri- cities?
+Jesse Hankins 👍
Out of the Woods I grew up close to that area. It's beautiful there and lots of old growth trees.
+Jesse Hankins yes. Most are wasted. I try to save most of them.
Like all your work I have the same mill. Please tell me the title of the first song in this viewing

That's a baby oak
what do you want for a slab of that red oak.
+Robert Ford I usually get 4$ a bf after drying.
thanks is that 5/4. I would love to get 1 of those really beutifull wide ones ,if you have any to sell after there dry.
+Robert Ford yes all are 5/4
+Robert Ford sounds good
could you send me one or two of those slabs and how much would that be.
You should figure some way to get those logs up off the ground. Unless you are going to work them up soon they will soon begin to deteriorate.
you should hook up with Norm Abrams, at New Yankee work shop & see if he wants some of them choice cuts. you might even be able to make a swap deal ????? He is a master wood worker he makes some awesome stuff !!!
I like his show very much, I think he is retired now,
thanks for watching,
Horrible music if that is what you call it so shut off the noise. Your videos are much better without the noise.
if you look at the bottom of you screen you can hit the mute button, problem solved, everybody wins, most people like the tunes,
