    This fix worked on my RX 6750 XT (AMD reference/1st party model). Most noticeable for me in Rocket League, and 1500 was the magic value to set Min Frequency to. I made no other changes.
    The fix also carries over into Linux (Arch/HoloISO) as well. I enabled OC'ing in the kernel parameters during boot and used the LACT tool to set minimum clock, again to 1500 with no other changes.
    Cheers!

    Thanks very much, mate!
    As many others mentioned, I was trying to fix these extremely annoying crackling audio issues for weeks since I installed my 6750 XT. They were not permanent in my case, but would happen especially when a streaming video was maximized to full screen.
    Even considered replacing the GPU and/or the power source, but thankfully found your instructions before that happened. They did the trick perfectly: minimum frequency set to 1500 MHz, undervoltage at 1180 mV, and the issues are gone. Awesome job, thanks again for sharing!!

      I’m glad it helped. Different applications may require different minima, but you can configure settings for each application, as well as having a global setting which is otherwise always applied. You’ll notice that on the desktop and other very light tasks, the frequency will be well below the “minimum” you set, but the issue should still not present itself.

    Ah Glad I found this, good suggestion. Made a light go off in my head. So I built a TV PC and it runs mostly light weight games Vsync so it makes sense to me the GPU is power stating down, and then doesnt have the oomph to push audio as well. AMD really needs to sort these little QOL issues out no?
    So tehcnically AMD GPUs use internal p-state based on frequency breakpoints (well they did in the past). I used to hack their BIOS's and stuff and you can change the breakpoints. Essentially by telling everyone to go up to 1500mhz, when the GPU is loaded it will hit a minimum p-state and hold there (no idea what the values are but that's likely in range of like p4 or p5). So these lighter games with FPS limits drop the p-state down and then the stutters begin.
    I'll try this on mine, not in front of it right now, but I think this will 100% fix the issue

    about to try this! But I have to comment on the voltage comments. If you lower voltage and the card still consumes the same wattage then you're running more current through the card. This is called Ohms Law. Current will create more heat than voltage.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty  Рік тому

      That’s correct. My point being that a lower voltage means less power for the same performance, or better performance for the same power draw. I=E/R and P=I*E.

    Only fix i could find was installing patched drivers for Realtek instead that allowed it to use DTS and multichannel just like HDMI. Unfortunately this does not help me anymore since my new AVR cant use optical with HDMI going through but i just wanted to say this if someone else is also as frustrated with AMD audio as i am and is trying to find alternative ways to get best possible audio.

    I think the reason this solves the issue is that raising the min frequency raises the min voltage. I'm using 5700 xt and it lets me change the min voltage independantly, I have it set to 900mv and it seems to be good so far. Another way to fix this in MSI Afterburner would be to force constant voltage, though I have it underclocked and volted to 930mv.

    The Power Options window should appear
    Click "Choose what the power buttons do" from the column on the left
    Scroll down to "Shutdown settings" and uncheck the box for "Turn on fast startup".
    Note: If these options are greyed out then you may need to click "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
    Windows 11:
    Press Win + R to open Run.
    Type control and click OK to open the Control Panel.
    Go to System and Security and then click on Power Options.
    In the left pane, click on Choose what the power buttons do.
    Next, click the Change settings that are currently unavailable link.
    Under the Shutdown settings section, check the Turn on fast startup (recommended) option to turn on the feature.
    Uncheck the Turn on fast startup option to turn it off.
    Click Save changes to apply the changes.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty  Рік тому

      Every time that shaders present themselves for the first time, the card will stutter. This will happen every time you update drivers. However, if you play the game for a little longer, it should go away. Raising the minimum frequency can help some frame drops. Make sure you enable xmp in bios or the ram won’t run at the rated speed and timing. Every new shader will stutter. That means any skin, weapon, particle effect, animation, etc. rendered will cause a latency. One or two, no big deal, but the first launch of a game will have millions. Many will load at the same time, and that will cause the stutters.

    I can confirm that raising the min clock speed of my 6700xt pulse fixed all the audio stutters I was facing with my pc connected to my tv through hdmi 2.1. I also found that raising the min clock speed is also beneficial in some games where your gpu load is low since it over aggressively tries to downclock the gpu which can result in framerate stutters as well.
    However, I am a bit concerned why does the 6700xt have this issue in the first place? I don't think its the hdmi drivers since I tried switching to the windows hdmi audio drivers as well. Is it because there is a manufacturing defect in these gpus?
    I raised the min clock speed to (max - 100). I set it to 2500Mhz without changing anything else like voltage etc. I dont think this would damage the card by overheating etc, correct?

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty  Рік тому +1

      Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. I haven't seen any such issue with the 6800, 6600xt, r9 290, nor the rx480. I know some people have issues with commonly issue-free hardware, but the 6700xt really seems to have this issue for many people.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty  Рік тому +1

      If I remember correctly, the min and max have to be separated by at least 100 MHz. Raising the max clock also raises the max voltage. Raising the min clock might also raise min voltage, which may be why this resolves the issue. Heat is caused by power consumption. Clock speed alone doesn't raise power consumption; it's the instructions per cycle multiplied by the frequency that causes it. Those factors determine the electrical resistance. Without enough voltage, such load could not be held, and the system crashes, but the higher the voltage, the higher the power consumption (I=E/R; P=E*I >> P = E*E/R). The thermal limit is 110C, though some tests have shown degradation from prolonged use at 100C. This is probably due to thermal fatigue, or even steady-state creep, since the silicon is still (on a very small scale) a system of analog switches.
      TLDR/ if your gpu edge and junction temperatures are under 100C, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Desperate to fix the audio since upgrading to RX6950xt. I have tried every other 'fix' known to google search and nothing works, including this one. I am only seeing issues with devinci resolve and RDR2, everything else is fine. If anyone can offer any advise it would be very much appreciated.

      Concerning Da Vinci Resolve, try running the application as an administrator. Sometimes that also helps with hardware acceleration and resource usage, since windows likes to limit the amount of resources that any one app can use. I'm not sure about RDR2, since I've never had any issues with it. One thing you could try is deleting the shader cache if you have it through steam. If 1500 MHz almost fixes it, try a higher value. Even as high as 2400 MHz if necessary. Low IPC cycles don't really do any harm.

    I have the sapphire pulse Rx 6700 10gb which I just installed and immediately started having audio drop for 1-2 seconds at a time. While listening to Spotify and watching Netflix and UA-cam it happens once in a while but while in a game it happens much more often. I followed your instructions to see if it would help at all and unfortunately the problem persists. 😢

      @@Galewinds it seems a lot of people are having problems with that driver. Try the other one that’s available on AMD’s website (22.5.3 I think), and see if my solution works for that version. I think I’m using 22.10.2 on the 6700xt. You could probably find it on techpowerup or something. If not, I can send it to you over discord or something, but try out the one that’s available online and see if it fixes it.

      Sorry to hear that. You could also try disabling MPO, which nvidia put out a registry edit for. It's a problem on both rdna2 and rtx 30 series. For sure, it seems most prevalent on 6700xt though. I'm not sure why. I have 3 rdna2 cards, and that's the only one that does it.

    Definitely took my 6700xt stuttering from every 10 seconds to every minute or two. Seems to be HORRIBLE in certain games. Witcher 3 music, bad. Poker Night at the Inventory was every 10 seconds during heavy voice actor lines. Never did it during Netflix even before the tinkering. Really annoying.

      Yeah some people have had a really poor experience with this card, it seems. Make sure you have the chipset drivers installed, and remove old video drivers with DDU especially if you upgraded from an nvidia card.
