Short Film Announcement and Teaser | Canon R50 and t3i
The short test clip of my short film was shot on the t3i by my niece, and the rest of this was shot on the R50 in HDR PQ, but I rendered it in rec 709 (SDR) because the t3i footage is SDR. I hope you like it, and please reach out to me if you want to help us by scoring the film!!! The music in the test clip is from Mr. Robot Season 1 "The Real Shayla". It's one of my favorite bits of music in that show, and I felt like it really fit what I was going for.

      Thank you. I guess it would be both observant and reflective with a liminal setting. Some of the shots are done so it looks like you're a static observer viewing from a distance, and some of it is close and in the point of view of the subject. The emptiness (even in traffic since traffic feels isolating), along with the brutalist architecture of parking lots and school buildings could be considered liminal spaces. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though I was thinking of redoing it with some minor timeline changes and some film emulation. I didn't use film emulation this time because I wanted it to be a showcase of the camera's optics. I'm also working on a full short film, which my latest video is about. I hope you'll check it out once I finish it, which will of course take a long time.

    I have a r50. Love everything about it but the overheating. But we shouldn't have to do this at all. I have a feeling reading about this being a cannon issue in a lot of their cameras. When it comes time for me to upgrade this winter. I'm looking more at Sony for videos, and lens availability.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty 3 місяці тому

      It was also the only thing I didn’t like, but I take everything apart, so this was just fun for me. Unfortunately many cameras from all manufacturers have overheating problems when video recording near their highest settings. There are Sony cameras with much better dynamic range, but they’re also several times the price of this camera. The rf lens selection really is too small, and I don’t like most EF lenses, so I don’t want to use an adapter. I’m mostly interested in cinema lenses, so it doesn’t really matter to me, but for photography, the options are slim and expensive. I hope you find the right camera for you.

    • @Hazel-the-Amazon
      @Hazel-the-Amazon 3 місяці тому

      @@Bunta1987qwerty I have zero issues taking things apart. I just don't want to take apart something that has a warnty. As for a camera. I'm kinda looking at different cameras in the 1500-2000k price range. I'm kinda torn between a modern camcorder. Cannon xa60 for like 1700 bucks has caught my eyes. No lens to worry about, fast apture, can run till it runs out of memory. I'm also looking at some cinema style cameras. Like the Sony fx 30, or a black magic 4/6k. They will be studio cameras only. So I can buy a good sigma prime, and be set. I plan on keep the r50 though. It's a good camera. It takes great pictures, snd I also want to get a sigma 18-50 once that drops next month. Then later in the summer a 50-100mm f/2.8 ef lens sigma, and those lens should cover what I need for photo work for now.

      @@DevonianPlays remember the goal is to get a heat conductor to make contact with the chips all the way to the external cover so the heat has a way to shed. The best case scenario would be filling the whole internal space with a heat conductive medium like thermal paste (or using liquid cooling), but that’s unrealistic. Another great thing about this is that a rear fan like the one from Ulanzi would actually be much more effective once you’re getting the heat to reach the rear cover.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty 4 місяці тому

      No. The front really isn’t doing anything since it’s blocked off. There’s a miniscule side vent, but it only serves to offset a pressure imbalance. Even with the rear exhaust, the psu exhaust, and 2 bottom intake fans, the overall pressure is still negative, so it intakes from the side vent. I taped it off to avoid dust, since there’s no filter there. Still, I’m using a 5950x at 4400 MHz, and an overclocked rx 6800 now with no overheating. Max 78C on the cpu and 86C on the gpu hotspot.

      Yes, I think the files are just too big unless they’re very short. The Bluetooth in the camera is very low speed, and sometimes it just doesn’t connect for some reason. • @Bunta1987qwerty

      Just one. The whole pad is 10,000 mm^2. Each chip uses 2 pads that are maybe 20mm by 20mm, which makes it 800 mm^2 per chip, or 1600mm total for both chips. Then, you have the larger pad on top of the plate, which is maybe 75mm x 50mm, or about 3,750 mm^2. This means you end up using a little more than half the pad in total. Even if you make a mistake, as long as they're making contact, it should be fine.

      I’m glad you found it helpful. More than anything, I was annoyed with the documentation regarding lighting settings.

    Even tho I've returned the R50 for an R8 (because it was overheating at 4K30) I now have the issue with the R8 overheating at 4K60 and sometimes at 4K30 (some acclimatization bullshit). Anyway, I've looked into it and apparently both the R50 and the R8 lack thermal pads while the R6 does have thermal pads which is suffice to say a way for Canon to say, f**k off and go buy the R5-R6 if you want to record for longer time in a very cheap way. Sadly I don't want to break my warranty but as soon as it goes out of warranty I'm going to put some thermal pads in there as well.

      Opening devices without causing damage doesn’t legally void warranty, but companies love to claim that you caused damage to avoid honoring warranties. You could take them to court, but of course no one wants to deal with that. The nice thing about this is that there aren’t any tamper stickers or anything, so you could just undo your work if you needed to claim a warranty. Take out the pads, clean everything with 91%+ ipa, and avoid damaging any screws, and they won’t even know you opened it. I do hate that this sort of thing is an issue, what with the right to repair laws in place. There’s just so little that customers can do to defend themselves from huge corporations in such situations. Even “warranty void if removed” stickers are illegal, but so many devices have them.

      @@Bunta1987qwerty I live in Europe and have two or three years of warranty. This warranty comes with the cost that you are not allowed to open the products so I'm not risking it. I recorded in 4K 30 fps yesterday in direct sunlight for like 30 minutes before the red thermal bar came up at which point I shut it down. The thing is that the lens mounting port actually got hotter than the back of the device so it wasn't the missing thermal pads that were the issue yesterday. I'm going to buy an external fan with a clip to add to my rig (tripod + a power bank with power delivery to sustain the load). An umbrella for both the camera and for me would have helped as well lol.

      @@alexandruilea915 sorry; I shouldn’t have assumed. A good warranty is worth it I guess. If you’re shooting a short film, 24 fps is standard anyway, and that should produce less heat. The rear of the camera not being hot is due to the lack of thermal pads, since the heat has no way of reaching the rear of the camera besides air. That’s why the lens mount is so hot, since it has physical contact with the board, and thus, the silicon. Either way, I believe your idea with the fan and an umbrella will probably be enough since you got 30 minutes in direct sunlight. I open everything I buy, which is a bad habit lol. I added a heat sink to my TV’s processor, and I repasted my router. I will say, they both did have an appreciable improvement in performance, but I suppose that’s more risk than most people are willing to or even should take.

      Thank you for the kind words. I'm really impressed with the camera so far. I did notice it overheats, but I was largely able to fix that (I can run a full hour at 4k24 hdr pq continuously). I made a video where I showed how I installed the thermal pads. I hope this helps you if you run into that issue.
