Chinese dynasties used music for various ceremonies, but never had official anthems representing the country. By the end of the nineteenth century, however, Qing China was constantly in contact with foreign countries and started to require a national anthem "for diplomatic convenience." Qing diplomats were the first to suggest adopting an official anthem. Zeng Jize (1839-1890) - eldest son of statesman Zeng Guofan - was the Qing envoy to France, Britain, and Russia for several years starting in 1878. Around 1880, he composed a song called Pu Tian Yue to be played as China's anthem in various state ceremonies and suggested the Qing adopt it as its official anthem, but the court did not approve. That song's lyrics and melody have both been lost for a very long time. However, an instrumental version of the anthem has been found and a part of what is seemingly the lyrics. When Li Hongzhang (1823-1901) visited Western Europe and Russia in 1896 as a special envoy charged with learning about foreign institutions after the disastrous end of the Sino-Japanese War in 1895, he was again asked to provide China's national anthem for performance at state receptions. He hastily adapted some court music to a slightly modified juju poem by Tang-dynasty (618-907) poet Wang Jian and presented that song as the Qing anthem. That song later became known as the Tune of Li Zhongtang but was never officially recognized as a national anthem. Another non-official anthem was written for the new Qing ground forces that were established in 1906. Entitled Praise the Dragon Flag, it was played on ceremonial occasions, but like the songs promoted by Zeng Jize and Li Hongzhang, was never officially adopted as the Qing national anthem. A Chinese version of the Japanese national anthem Kimigayo (adopted by the Meiji regime in 1888) was played in the new-style schools that taught modern topics like science and engineering. The Chinese lyrics - "To unify old territories, our ancient Asian country of four thousand years sighs in sorrow for the Jews, India, and Poland. Reading the history of those who have lost their countries, we shiver in our hearts!" - emphasized the Social Darwinist themes of ethnic crisis and loss of national territory, but many considered these too far from the usual themes of ceremonial music to be acceptable.
This slaps, the country they made this for totally should adopt it, I bet after that it’s gonna stand for a long time with this anthem. I bet nothing bad would happen once this is adopted
Right? Makes you hope that the Chinese Empire will be restored. It should be. All we need to do is amend the laws and add a constitution, and the Western countries will surely cry.

This eventually weakened the Dynasty. Finally the last 2 minutes of anthem foreshadowing and the inevitable, Dr Sun Yat Sen was frustrated how the Dynasty had became and seeing China became rotten almost to the core due to the incompetent and stubbornness of the Qing Dynasty, he decided to end the entirety of Chinese Dynasty circle.

(3:00) 宜蘭城邊小街市
In the Second sentence she is describing that city, ("The wind is clear and the moon is bright"),
(3:40) 風清月明好安居
In the Third sentence, she said that Chiang Wei Shui was born. (BTW he was born in 1891).
(4:08) 渭水先生初出世
In Fourth sentence she says "At sunrise, thw dragon is sinking. The flag is changing" meaning that Qing was ceded Taiwan to Japan (that happened in 1895) . That's why you can hear a fragment of the Japanese national anthem in end of the overture.

Chinese dynasties used music for various ceremonies, but never had official anthems representing the country. By the end of the nineteenth century, however, Qing China was constantly in contact with foreign countries and started to require a national anthem "for diplomatic convenience."
Qing diplomats were the first to suggest adopting an official anthem.

Right? Makes you hope that the Chinese Empire will be restored. It should be. All we need to do is amend the laws and add a constitution, and the Western countries will surely cry.

Imagine this played as their national anthem during football match, and the players hairstyle are queue
Something tells me the queue is probably not made for sports at all. Especially if someone is a little... angry
Shaolin soccer players with this anthem in world cup would be amazing!
If the Qing still existed they would probably abolish this weird hairstyle to keep the people from revolting
@Matthew No, the queue is the symbol of your Qing imperial citizenship. It represents honor and identity. Qing is Ok to build arsenals and buy warships but they would never cut the queue.
This anthem composed in 1911, too bad in 1912 Qing dynasty is dissolved.
@Alex Lee China now is just a current Soviet China! Look at this anthem! 100% pure Chinas!

I like how this anthem played out in each segment. The early part is about the rise of Qing Dynasty and how they successfully conquered back XinJiang and Tibet from the lost of Ming Dynasty. The middle part is about the start of colonialism from the West, particular the British Empire and France, they brought many problems to the Dynasty such as the Opium War and then created many inner conflicts such Boxer Rebellion and Taiping Rebellion.

@@arandomyoutubeaccount3166 the orgininal quote "Those who do not miss the Soviet Union have no heart. Those who want it back have no brain," was from Vladimir Putin. This is the Chinese version of the quote

I could hardly call myself a fan of the Qing, but this is an amazing anthem!
This is by far the best anthem I've ever heard -- a truly magnificent composition and a brilliant performance! Thanks for sharing.
Imperial China is absolutely magnificent.
The Drums were Epic as Hell!
Ou (甌) was a kind of wine vessel. Jin'ou (金甌/金瓯), or golden wine vessel, symbolized an "indestructible country". The Qing emperor used such a vessel for ritual purposes. Inlaid with pearls and gems, it was known as the "Cup of Eternal Solid Gold" (Jin'ou Yonggu Bei 金甌永固杯). Because gong 鞏 means "to consolidate" or "to strengthen," the entire title may be translated as "strengthening our hold on the golden cup.
Yan Fu, who wrote the lyrics, glossed the title and the first line of the anthem as "Firm and stable be the 'golden cup' (which means the empire)."
I am Japanese. Traditional Japanese culture was influenced strongly by China. When I listen to this music, I feel relax and as if I am in hometown.
