I'm Building My First LOG CABIN With No Experience & Building a New Small Cabin | EP 9

- Hello my friends🙂
There are already over 10,000 of us here, thank you!
In this episode I start making the fifth row of logs and start building a small house that I will be staying in temporarily until the main cabin is finished. This way I can stay on my property and the work will go faster. It is a really small house that is only 4 square meters in which I will only have a bed, a stove and a small kitchen.
If you're wondering why I used screws instead of nails for the small house, it's because I used fresh boards, which are cheaper than dry boards. when they dry, gaps will appear between them. When the wood is dry, I unscrew the screws, push the boards together and then hammer them in with nails.
I used an electric drill to make some screw holes. Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.

More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I use hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I also started this UA-cam channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do all the filming and editing myself. I would also be very grateful if you would support my journey by subscribing or sharing, if you want to.
Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're watching. I will try to make videos as best as I can, so that you get the greatest enjoyment from them.
Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

This way I can stay on my property and the work will go faster. It is a really small house that is only 4 square meters in which I will only have a bed, a stove and a small kitchen. I found this to be the same cost as a hot tent. I tried to make this house as cheaply and quickly as possible. Total spend is around 250 euro ($270). I already have the stove and roofing so I don't need to buy it. I will finish this house in the next video.

Another great video!
Mathias are you building This in europe ?
@@kingrafa3938 Thanks again😃
@@williamlewis8741 Yes, in Croatia.
Great job young man. I’m so happy to see young people getting into the outdoors these days. It’s sorely needed.
I love watching young people do this ,I was watching another Young man name Erik Grankvist I watched him three years so I'm wishing you all the best xb
I love Eriks videos too! Thank you very much! You are not longer watching Erik? Can I ask why? I'm just curious, nothing against you.
He hasn't made anyone's video yet xb from England London xb
I did too

Great job, however do yourself and family a favor. Wear safety glasses. Trust me.
My new favourite trance inducing channel, you fit into my relaxation regime perfectly between Primitive Technology and Advoko Makes. I envy your youth, land, and skills.
This is so encouraging to me. That's exactly what I make these videos for. Thanks, much appreciated!
You are a Natural Carpenter! Steady and focused! I suspect you learned from an awesome Father or Grandfather...am I right? You are a Shining and Sound being!
Thank you sir! You are close, my Dad taught me to work with wood :D
Things are coming along nicely. Keep up the good work young man. Refrehing to see someone so young have such coviction/ Take care and see you next time.
Thank you Michael!
The small house is much less expensive and more durable than a hot tent. You can use it for more purposes once the main cabin is built (and you keep it in good condition). Well done, as always 👍
Exactly. Thanks :D
Its video's like these...is the only time, when I wish we had UA-cam in the early '70s.
You are impressively accurate with your hatchet! 👍🏻
Thanks!
Mathias, you rock, man.
Matthias, Great video as usual. What a wonderful idea to build a small house to stay in while you work. Should eliminate a lot of travel time to the cabin site. Please use power tools as needed. Sometimes they will be required. Keep having fun with it.
Thanks Bruce!
I did something close this in wytopitlock maine in 1979 , good on you big guy . Its an awesome feeling to sit by the fire , under a roof that you put up. You've got this , enjoy 😉
Neat cabin to stay in.
Thanks.
FUN TO WATCH YOUR PROGRESS
Amazing! I cannot express how impressed I am with your perseverance, ambition and focus. Thumbs up and yes, I hit the subscribe button 🇨🇦🙋🏼♀️👍🏼
Thank you!
Você é muito esforçando incrível trabalho, um abraço do Brasil
Pretty accurate choppin....😊
Thanks 😊
@@MatthiasCabinChronicles I was completely amazed by how you made the notches in those logs
Adorei a pequena casa top , obrigada por compartilhar até o próximo video
Wonderful vid…Thanks, Rob
I love how carefully and methodically you work. my grandpa and dad were both builders by trade and then by hobby, and constantly nursing some broken rib or huge bruise from trying to go too fast, cutting corners and falling off their goddamn build
Good job Matthias 👍
Thanks!
Awesome Mathias, can't hardly wait to see it done.
Dude, this is so great to see someone building a log cabin the correct full-scribe way. We build full-scribe log homes but we use chainsaws, grinders, etc., so it's really neat to see it done the original way with only hand tools. Well done. 👍
Good boy👍👍👍👍👍❤
Personally I liked it when you had no background music or anything just you working and the noise of the tools you were using!!
Great job! Keep it up 💪
Thanks guys!
I love your videos😃
@@MatthiasCabinChronicles Thanks! 😁
That's my boy Mathias. Gitter done. I'm rooting for ya!

Great Job Young Man !! One notch at a time the logs go up :) nice insulating with what mother nature gives us, & just hand tools 👍👍Love the little cabin it will keep warm & dry while you are working on the log one !
Thank you! I'm really glad you're enjoying the progress!
Thanks good 👍
Totally awesome

Nicely done young man!

Looking good Matthias, even the weather is working with you. Keep up with the hard work and take your time. Keep safe young man. Until the next time. Take care. 🖖

Great job! You are genius🎉
Hah, thanks 😄
Log for log , it looks so perfect Matthias 👍👍💯
Thanks 😃
"No experience" That shit is so precise I can eat off the edges.
Ahoj Matýsku. Jsi obdivuhodně pilný a šikovný. V širém světě se neztratíš ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
Ahoj Dědečku. Děkuju, to je milé 🙂.
Thank you for sharing this with us. That was a clever idea about resetting the green shiplap boards after they season. But why no sway bracing in your little building? Nice fitting on your log work. Keep up the good work, and remember to take time to enjoy!
Good luck man❤
Lovely work young man.
Thank you sir!
Descobri esse canal recentemente e estou adorando assistir os vídeos +1 👍 👏👏
Hello my friend, very nice 👌👍👏⚒️
thank you my friend!
Congrats for dropping out of college and doing what you love. College is a scam and you definitely made the right decision.
Thanks for the encouragement mate.
I wonder what this young Robinson Crusoe will do when the last cabin is finally built. Has he got a profession, or will he simply enjoy nature?
My dream house❤❤❤
Very Good ❤
Thanks!
You have some very nice tools!
Nice attention to detail btw.
Nice camera work as well.
Na pána 💪💪💪🔥
Nice work and skills, it's a pleasure to watch your videos :)
Thank you very much!
My grandfather’s middle name was Matthias. From Finland originally. Am watching from Michigan in the USA. Great editing in your videos!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Awesome to see you building this! I assume you take inspiration from my self reliance? 😄
Yes I did. I started watching Shawn a long time ago and I love his videos. Erik Grankvist is also a big inspiration for me.
So Matthias, now that you've started the main cabin, where are you getting the logs from. They're already dressed and ready for trimming and installing.
Meanwhile I’m sitting in my apartment doing fuck all because I grew up learning nothing of value.
I vow to be a skilled outdoorsman and craftsmen by the time I die, and that I can pass these skills onto my kids
Oh hey i loved your sicksons cartoon
rất tuyệt vời ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👍👍👍
Good job, and remember most people dont mind if you use here and there power tools 😉
I'm impressed how good the cabin is taking shape , keep up the good work you doing.
Thank you very much!
With this temporary dwelling you could turn into the outhouse and maybe a shower later on when the main Cabin is finished.. that would be perfect ❤
The main Cabin is looking good right now..🏕 well done ❤
That would be cool!
Thank you Margaret!
Lovely work. Seems just long enough for the bed, will be nice & cosy when the stove is in. Hope you can get a cat or dog to keep you company in the future.
Thanks! I hope so too!
Stay away from women😂😂
good job bro👍
Thanks bro 😁
Hope you have with no problems
Milovaný Matýsku, jsi ohromné šikovný, buď opatrný. Babička Evička.❤❤❤ 🇨🇿

Matthias,
Enjoy your UA-cam videos building your log house with hand tools. "Discovered" them a few days ago. The videos' filming composition & closed caption comments are great.
About 40 years ago drove through Yugoslavia on way to Istanbul & the only expression I can remember is "dobar dan."
Know a little bit of Polish and believe your grandmother left the message above for you & you replied "Thank-you grandmother."
If the message is from your grandmother, please tell her Dobar Dan!! from an American.

My dream…Good job man 🤠🫡
I wish it comes true for you brother!
@@MatthiasCabinChronicles Thank you brother !
Seen this several times
tenacity worthy of better use
* define "no experience"😁
😂
awesome work man,hey what kind of trees are those they look wonderful for building . beautiful site for a cabin .
Thanks man! Those are fir trees.
Where is your sledgehammer? Not the cute little Setting Maul you hand made (good job BTW), but a real sledgehammer.
Usually it took 3 years because northern summers are short
❤❤
What a great idea to swap the tent for a shed/cabin. You can still make use of it when you finish the cabin.
I admire your attention to the scribing of the logs on top of each other. Likewise the placement of the moss, having seen others spend hours trying to get the chinking in your system seems to fit much tighter.
It’s quite fascinating to watch you “ craft” your cabin. You have a sense of calm around you that is quite addictive! I look forward to my next “calming fix” ❤
Thank you for your kind and encouraging comment :)
wow, you’re cute and so tremendously skilled! 😍
did you mill your own lumber? did you buy or cut your own logs off your property? what size is the out building? is this located in the US or Canada?
Unfortunately I don't have my own forest so I bought the trees and then they were cut down for me. After I got them on my property I peeled them. The log cabin measures 18ft x 21ft. I am located in Europe in a small country called Croatia.
Very Cool! But Saying: "I'm Going To Loosen All The Screws And Then Nail The Boards".... Sounds A Bit Much!
Thanks! Maybe, but it will only take about 1 hour of work. It's still just a very small house :D
I missed your foundation. How did you do that. Simply lay the first log directly on the ground? Or use some sort of foundation?
How often do you need to sharpen the peeler tool ?
Where did you get your wood auger?
The height of the log cabin of course.
2 mters is not bad at all ,Will you make the roof very sloping?
Yes, the angle of the roof will depend on how high the walls will be. But I would still like to have a quite sloping roof.
I watch you working thoughtfully, quietly and diligently toward your goal Matthias...and watch aother doing the same type build, with power tools, also thoughtful, but with many in your face invectives( which don't bother me in the least ), in a wild area where potentially deadly animals coud appear instantly, causing work/life delay(s)( and provide a potential smart reason for making as much noise as is possible )....which prompts this question....are there wild animals out and about where your build is occuring...and are you prepared for such an event?...Just curious...and be safe, and thanks for sharing your build with us!
Thank you! No need to worry. Here where I am, there are only jackals who only attack cattle and are afraid of people.
👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷❤️
Matthias, where is the bathroom?
Daha sık video gelebilir mi?
A tip keep that axe razor sharp
I like this type of content but I hate silent videos. Narration is key.
Hello Matthias ! I was waiting for your new video.
How tall do you intend to make inside your cabin?
I mean the lowest part on the inside wall .....
Hello Franco! I don't know if you mean the main log cabin or the small log cabin, so I'll write both. For the main log cabin I hope to reach at least 2 meters in height of the lowest part on the inside wall and for the small log cabin I made 1.85 meters.
❤❤❤🙏
