I'm Building This Porch on my Budget Off Grid Cabin & Building the Main Log House | EP14
Hello my dear friends🙂
I decided to build a covered front porch on the small cabin so that I can have a place where I can have a table and where I can eat or sharpen tools, etc. Since the roof is bigger, now I will also collect more rainwater, which I currently use mainly for watering the paulownia trees - the world's fastest growing trees which I planted in episode 12. I bring drinking water in canisters so I don't drink the rainwater. I haven't done much work on the main cabin lately. I was a little sick so I didn't work for a few days, but at least I had a good rest after a few weeks/months of hard work. I still have to finish 4 rows of logs on the main log cabin. That's a total of 16 logs for the walls. Before I put in the last logs I have to cut out the openings for the windows and doors.
I'm really looking forward to getting the walls done and starting the roof and I can't wait to share it with you! Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much. I would also appreciate a lot if you can support my channel by subscribing!

More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift a few years ago and later I also bought another big part of the land with my own money. So this property is mine, I'm alone on it and completely off grid. There is no water or electricity connection.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I use hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I also started this UA-cam channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do all the filming and editing myself. I would also be very grateful if you would support my journey by subscribing or sharing, if you want to.
Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're watching. I will try to make videos as best as I can, so that you get the greatest enjoyment from them.
Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

Hello my dear friends🙂 In this episode I started lifting heavy logs using a system I saw on Erik Grankvist's channel. Erik is a great inspiration for me. I've made two more rows of logs since the last episode so a total of 8 rows of logs are done and I still have another 5 rows of logs to go. In the small house, I moved the bed down because it was too warm upstairs. In the next episode I will b...

Matthias you are a hard worker, and not afraid to give credit where it due for Erik's channel inspiring you!! I think my grandfather did this when he was your age!! I am 67 and living in Phoenix, Arizona, I remodeled every room in my house with help, you seem to be doing fine on your own, but please take care of the back, otherwise when you get my age you will cursing at yourself for not!! Now when you get done you will have the satisfaction of having built your cabin with little or no help other than your Dad hauling materials for you!!! I did not build my home, but treating it with tender loving care. Please make sure you tell your Dad you Love him along with any other family members that is priceless!!! God bless you!

That lumber looks vastly superior in quality to what I can buy here. Those boards look select grade. Those would probably run a thousand or more dollars here.

Look kid you are getting out there and doing it and doing pretty good considering how obviously inexperienced you are. You become more efficient at being efficient over time. BUT you spent more time and materials on the clear water container base than the entire foundation of the structure. You appear to be getting away with it but think about one thing other than maybe a pair of pin nails for maybe a half a dozen "studs" the only thing connecting the top of your structure to the "foundation" is 12 screws. Now you did attach everything in the walls together very well. So like I said you're getting away with it but HOLY COW clay roofing tiles to boot. That structure should be on modern marvels just because it's standing. I commend you for getting things done and I will be watching more of your videos hoping the foundation system for your cabin is far far better than this !!! Can't build a good anything on a bad foundation .......

@matthiascabinchronicles hello…I found a tree service that will cut (100) of my pine trees for $2000 and that’s delimbed and stacked. I was wondering how long after they are cut do I have to debark them before any type of problem like bugs occurs? Thank you so much.

    • @MatthiasCabinChronicles
      @MatthiasCabinChronicles 6 днів тому

Hey, that is a very good price. The most important thing is that the trees are cut down in the winter when the water and all the tree juices go to the root. Logs harvested in winter will be healthy logs and will not be as interesting to bugs. I started peeling my logs about a month after they were cut, and it took another month before I peeled the last log. When it comes to building a log cabin, one big advantage is that you don't even have to dry the wood and you can build from fresh wood almost immediately after debarking. I dried the wood because I wanted to get slightly lighter logs. Good luck with your build my friend!
