Wow...In 1994, when this aircraft was delivered to Continental,I was a 737 First Officer for Continental. The 500 was the first aircraft I flew that had a somewhat glass cockpit, in that the HSI was a glass display, however all other flight instruments were still round dials. I pulled out my logbooks for this period of my career and checked for the registration number. Turns out I flew this aircraft on more then several occasions, both as an FO and later as Captain. And yes, you did an excellent job making this video, and I thank you for your efforts.
I was on an airline in Indonesia when this happened, I saw the airline pass by while it was taking off while we were waiting on the taxiway for our takeoff permission. Shall everyone on that airline Rest In Peace...
This was a tragedy. At least this guy tries his hardest to bring some answers to the questions we all have without making us feel like ghouls. No one can replace the lives lost on that day but we will learn from it.
Given the long history of negligence and probable incompetence by both the company and perhaps pilots, I think greater scrutiny should be placed examining the entire country's regulation and enforcement.

This is everyone's worst nightmare when flying, particularly over an ocean. To just go into a sudden steep nose dive at astronomical speeds into the ocean is a terrifying thought. It makes me wonder if the plane was hit by lightning or perhaps hit a tornadic supercell with violent rotation.
airplanes can withstand lightning strikes actually. this must be something else, a catastrophic parts malfunction / broken causing the plane to lose control and the crew unable to recover the flight
Oh my goodness, this is so difficult to watch, especially as the plane begins to dive, I cannot the imagine the horror and fear those poor people experienced. May all their souls rest in peace 🙏🏼

You're doing great work my dude. In America we haven't hardly heard of this because our media is so narcissistic. It breaks my heart. I take a bit of comfort in the belief that all those on board are now at peace in some way...

Very sad same time not surprised for that country having accidents like this every year they have a lot of work to do to improve their whole aviation safety in that country
As the planes are becoming more advanced, automated, easier to fly; airlines are cutting back on training. The USA is the only country I'm aware of which requires 1000-1500 hrs of flight time before becoming an airline pilot. The other countries' pilots have about 300 hrs. Furthermore, many of those Asian airlines have an SOP which over relies on the autopilot which robs pilots of hand-flying experience.
@@fazole the pilots in this flight are well experienced, as the video mentioned.. the captain was even in the air force.. but yea i agree with Rod Silver, many things to improve, but more on things like the maintenance of aircrafts, safety checks, etc
Think about the other way, Indonesia has more extreme weather and sometimes would push the airplane to the limit. Boeing should take each Indonesia crash seriously, rather than blaming pilots. The classic 737 rudder issues and 737max MACS issues occurred in Indonesia but were ignored until more crashes
The “black box” flight recorders have been located and retrieved, people all over the world won’t rest easily, until the reasons for this crash are discovered! Nothing regarding the crew, currently is attracting particular suspicion. The pilot seems to have had an exemplary life.
@@negativepunk9638 But it's hardly a ringing endorsement to describe your pilots safety record as "relatively" good. It's a really weird thing for an airline to say about their pilots.
As an indonesian aviation lover i really thankful for you to making this video Just a story from me After a few hours i've got a news that SJ182 (or Citra)was lost contact, i hoped it's just her radar not working or other problem, but then i was wrong the Plane was completely crash into the sea (near Pulau seribu). My heart was really broken that day, why this bad accident must happen in the first month of 2021 That night i worried about SJ182 passenger family's the most saddest one is a Dad that cried so loud knowing his wife and three child were inside that Plane I hope this will be the last Aircraft accident in 2021🤲🏻...😔 "They're not crashed but they just acsending the plane to Heaven"
The first thing that I see wrong is the wipers running after take off. That would never happen in a real aircraft. I agree with the findings that severe disorientation looks to be the issue. How this can happen to an experienced aircrew is beyond me. I have over 20,000 flight hours and have never experienced such a situation. I was taught when in doubt go to the instruments and forget your gut instincts. RIP to the victims of this terrible tragedy.
Yes, you are right, we have to trust our instruments - especially the ADI. But - I'm very sure you know that - pilots may become victim of spacial disorientation: if you only have few seconds for your (the correct) decision, you may run out of time. -- But, in fact, I believe it was a problem with the flight computers / with the software ( of the flight augmentation computers).
I wasn't "Solving" it Mikey, I was trying to put my experience into the equation. I tried several scenarios and none came up with that outcome. Engine failure, no. Control problems, not likely. Double instrument failures, not likely because they are independent of each other. I would guess a distraction of some sort that got both crew members' attention, the autopilot was clicked off unbeknownst to the crew then when they realized what was going on they were unable to recover the aircraft. As an ex-military pilot, I was trained to restore awareness after being blindfolded and the plane put into unusual positions. It is a terrifying experience to see the instruments whirling and spinning around and the G forces pulling on your inner ear. I am disappointed in snarky comments like yours when someone with experience is offering an explanation. @@mikeymikeymotorbikey
@@rudyyarbrough5122 wanna fight????? Just kidding. My point was to wait for the data before making assumptions. The Cap was a trained military pilot who would recognize spatial disorientation. This is why Indonesians should ground their planes when there's that weather. I just feel so bad for the people who were wearing masks on a plane afraid of getting the virus, next thing you know they crash into the sea. It's sad, it really is.
No countries ground their planes when there is bad weather. The goal of professional aviation is to fly in any conditions except the ones frightening the safety. From the information available now on this tragedy, the weather was not reported to be severe and all the other flights didn't have any issue. Everyday, planes takeoff and land from Madere in Portugal or some places in the UK with worse weather conditions without any issue. Why Indonesia only would be wrong letting their planes fly ? Because it's Indonesia ?
I have no family, pal, relative nor I know anyone on board but this tragedy really hurts my heart. I was crying while I was watching the last moments and thinking what if I were there. Sometimes I skip its news since I don't wanna get hurt too much. Sending my prayers and thoughts to the family. Thank u for this vid and looking forward for the update.
"Disorientation" from an experienced former Air Force pilot? I dont think so. Again, it looks highly suspicious, who knows what the flight data recorders will reveal and if that information will be presented truthfully.
Plenty of experienced military pilots have been involved in commercial, private and general aviation accidents. They can and do experience disorientation and loss of situational awareness. Don't forget that there was also a First Officer. Who knows what he may have done and how the experienced pilot reacted (e.g. Giant 3591)?
How disoriented do you have to be to make that dramatic of a change in the plane’s attitude? The sensation from the change in G-forces would at the very least, snap you back to reality.
@@supertriz You wouldn't believe how strong, sudden and incorrect your sensations can be when you're in complete IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions). I'm getting my Instrument Rating right now and it's happened twice to me.

Saw this on Aviation Herald’s website.... “A passenger booked onto the crashed flight reported that he had to miss the flight due to his Covid-19 PCR Test results not yet having arrived. Only after the aircraft had already departed the (negative) test results arrived which would have permitted him to board the flight.” R.I.P. to the those who were not so lucky.😢

The fear and terror in the plane with the people, I can empathise. Thank you for putting this together and I look forward to the further video on this.
Bad weather and old pilots is not a good combination. The common enemy of Airline Passengers everywhere are the pilots. They are error prone. We need more automation, actually we need complete automation, the sooner the better.

Please pray for the investigation crew , they are still working hard to find the passanger body pieces 😭 ( only few of them already identified) Much love from indonesia ( im a fan btw ❤ always love all your video)
The kinds of forces the crew and passengers were experiencing during the descent must have been immense. Almost 700 ft. per second, terrible to think about.
They wont pass out because the plane accelerates against gravity just like a lift/elevator, the more vertical they are and the faster they accelerate the less gravity they'll feel (lightweight sensation). The change in orientation might freak them out because they are facing downwards.
Wow, talk about fast turn-around on a video of high quality like this. This only happened about a week ago. Though a tragic loss of life, having this level of information presented (which, I dare say, was far more than given via the media) is much appreciated.

I've flown in Indonesia quite a bit - Bali, Makassar, and even way out to Sorong a couple of times - and on Sriwijaya. It's a huge country and really the only convenient way to get around is by air. So, if you've got a fear of flying, your only other option is a ferry, and some of those can be a pretty wild ride too, depending on the weather.
Talk about fast response!!! Excellent work on getting this out so fast. 👏👏👏 I obviously have no details, but it almost looks like another 737 Rudder issue. The hard roll, rapid descent and loss of control sounds shockingly familiar.
Excellent work in such a short amount of time. I had a flight the next day - Jan 10 - and even though I was in the U.S. on an airline with a much better safety record, hearing of this just before my trip kind of shook me up.

@Agustinus Reynaldi pun intended?
Are u an airline pilot? could you say exactly what could have happened? Very concerned!
There you go Rudy, you solved it. Without waiting for any data!!!!!! Amazing.
This is why Indonesians should ground their planes when there's that weather. I just feel so bad for the people who were wearing masks on a plane afraid of getting the virus, next thing you know they crash into the sea. It's sad, it really is.
It is not established that weather was the cause of the crash.
The problem here is safety standards. As shown in this video, safety standards in Indonesia are not a high priority
@Любовь yes, there are no tornados in Indonesia. Geographically speaking, Indonesia is located on the equator.
@Любовь cool, I live in Indonesia too, for 18 years. I've been in here ever since I was born actually.

"Disorientation" from an experienced former Air Force pilot? I dont think so. Again, it looks highly suspicious, who knows what the flight data recorders will reveal and if that information will be presented truthfully.
Plenty of experienced military pilots have been involved in commercial, private and general aviation accidents. They can and do experience disorientation and loss of situational awareness. Don't forget that there was also a First Officer. Who knows what he may have done and how the experienced pilot reacted (e.g. Giant 3591)?
Why do you think that a coverup is imminent?
might be deliberate action by the pilot... you never know
How disoriented do you have to be to make that dramatic of a change in the plane’s attitude? The sensation from the change in G-forces would at the very least, snap you back to reality.

The kinds of forces the crew and passengers were experiencing during the descent must have been immense. Almost 700 ft. per second, terrible to think about.
Would that mean that they passed out instantly?
These forces would kill them before they hit the water.
