I simply happened upon this video tonight. Four views later I'm shuddering, remembering what the man is capable of, at such a tremendous level. And remembering how he shaped my youth for the better.

Thanks Janelle for requesting this one and thank you Dave for being Dave-giving the world beauty and healing, activism through love, reflection, and music. Stephen Biko and the spirit of all people who shine through this one, are alive in this tune...

You know I've been listening to this song for over 20 years and this is the first time I really "heard" the lyrics. Thank you so much Dave for all the love and light you place into the world. So beautiful.

My first live show was '94 HORDE Festival. 57 live shows in total (so far) including Boulder '01, every show from '06-'10 at Alpine and all three days at Caravan Chicago. Just hearing Dave sing these to us over the internetz right now is almost as good as any of those, because it keeps us all connected. Once it's safe again- the first show back with the entire DMB Family/Community in attendance, whenever/wherever that might be, is gonna be one hell of a celebration 😎

This was my first love of this band, the lyrics. All about humanity ~ the good the bad and the ugly. When my son was 3 he used to ask, “Mommy is this a lovey song or a complicated song”? The human connection, looking at the reality’s of others lives, the madness of how we all have gotten to this place and what we need to do about it. Love one another is always the answer. Been a fan since 1998! The musical genius of the music is intoxicating!! Sadly we had first row tickets, a Dream come true on July 28, in North Carolina. Then Covid happened. But my loss is the least of the worries in this day & age! Keep doing what you do best, Dave & DMB! ~ with gratitude always one of your many fans. ❤️

I will be 42 may 23 this month and I've had dave and the band with such incredible talent in my life since 1995 and till present and I still can't listen to my favorite songs without getting chills and sheading tears of happiness.. I spread his poetry to all people that are closed minded to music.. I was like that in the much younger years. But than I really listened to music.. and I love all music with words of amazing power and force a chill through the soul. That's music.. I love this band so much.. Especially Dave with Tim renolds accoustic,,. I fall asleep to the melody till this day.. but now I have been listening to these songs from Dave's studio with him answering requests and I have to say that Dave Matthews is such a wise Noble kind-hearted wonderful soul . The Dave Matthews radio show is unbelievably moving .. I tried to practice some of the songs so I can play it like Dave himself but I'm not even close yet to being that good but keeps me playing the guitar every time I watch him play and with the radio station videos I can see better his fingers so I can play music to a love of my life that I'm still trying to find anyways Dave I love you to death bro keep doing what you doing and maybe one day I will be good enough to maybe play a song with you actually I probably be too nervous if you are the man and always have been can't wait till you come down to fort Lauderdale Florida again I have missed a lot of concerts because of life running on hard ground but things are starting to smooth out and a concert with Dave is exactly what I need in my life

The future is no place to place our better days..... His songs can level you. If you can sit quietly and listen it's sooo moving. Haunting....And he sounds the same as the album from soo long ago. This song to me is a diamond. Really shows how deep he can go. This isn't a pop artist. His song "what would you say" is why I bought under the table and dreaming....after listening to the album, the window went down, and I tossed the album it didn't match that song at all! Few years later I realized what a mistake I had made. Here we are today 15 venues later for DMB and I got to attend 3-31-2003 it was unbelievable. Dave is my muse...gosh his catalog in unreal....and some fantastic music...covers that were better than the original...All along the watchtower....Even Bob Dylan said DMB did better with it...

He made an interesting comment during the European tour a while back about the difference between American shows and over seas. He said in America the crowds are louder and talk too much for a quieter song. Basically said we don't listen to the songs so they need to be a little louder. Songs like this are a treat because we basically won't shut the hell up.

what makes me ever more sad than fear and hate is that the solution to fear and hate is simple and it lies right within our reach, but for whatever reason, we refuse to grasp it. it's tragic that we don't just take it. it's right there. fear and hate could be gone by tomorrow. just take it.

"It has frequently been observed that terror can rule absolutely only over
people who are isolated against each other and that therefore one of the
primary concerns of tyrannical government is to bring this isolation
about. Isolation may be the beginning of terror; it certainly is its
most fertile ground; it always is its result. This isolation is, as it
were, pretotalitarian; its hallmark is impotence insofar as power always
comes from people acting together, acting in concert; isolated people
are powerless by definition.”Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism
