I’ve been following Dave since 2002. Been to over 50 shows. From my perspective, Dave has never sounded better than now, specifically in these home clips. In concert on tour, his voice has been pretty rough but his voice is incredible in these ‘home’ videos. Its not only his voice, but his guitar work is the best it’s ever been! His touch on those strings, his dynamics.. it’s literally perfect. I also find it interesting he mentions missing Roi’s voice on this particular song. The community loves Coffin, but basically everyone agrees that Coffin overplays the sax on this song, especially on the intro. Dave misses Roi’s soul and thoughtfulness on this one, as do his fans. @@StillBelieve22 if you go back and listen to One Sweet World pre 2008 and compare it to when Coffin plays, you’ll notice and ‘feel’ that Roi plays these notes softly. That’s what I meant by overplayed. Roi doesn’t play the notes as aggressively as Coffin - the note are easier on the ears. It actually highlights their personality differences in my opinion as well. Roi was very soft spoken in how he played the sax. He didn’t look for attention, and most often played in the ‘background’, from his soul.. subtly. It was beautiful. Coffin is incredible and a much more technical player, but I have a strong feeling Dave is referencing Roi’s voice in this context. He likely misses how soft Roi played it.
