Thanks for your interest Kev. We've tried to be a little bit different, perhaps a bit 'warmer' than most of the stuff out there, and it seems to appeal to quite a few viewers which has been good. We have a lot of footage for future stuff but both of us are committed in other areas at present. I'm sure we'll get there though, so watch this space!
Most excellent sir Very passion for angling like, love the classic piano 🎹 background music so relaxing and peaceful Also some nice fishing to what seems to be a very experienced chub angler
Great little video, you’ve made it so well that it could be shown on TV. I used to fish the rivers of Warwickshire when I was a young lad, my favourite river was the itchin at long itchington, a tiny stream packed full of beautiful big red finned roach and chub. I now live in North Yorkshire with some great rivers but I do miss the small deep rivers down there.
That's interesting. I've been tempted to try the Itchen too. They are strange rivers aren't they, Leam, Stour, Itchen? Varying between inches and over ten feet deep in limited holes. Fascinating but not quite as prolific as one might hope
Fishing as it should be relaxed alough anticipating especially on a winter's day on small rivers/canals/and streams with the simplest of baits like bread wonderful stuff more please
Thank you for your comment Wolfie. 'Always nice when the comments reflect our own aims as you never really know how things will be seen by others when you're so close to it
I just found your channel and I watched every video in a single day. Great work man! I learned a lot and lowered my anxiety at the same time. I'm in the southern USA, I don't need to know how to catch chub, but I was held captive regardless. So many angling channels have loud intros and loud narrators yelling at the camera. I never understood that. Yeah it's exciting, but it's also restorative and a quiet, thoughtful pursuit.
I’ve watched this a couple of times now and thoroughly enjoyed the quality and content. Your style gets me reminiscing about Jack Hargreaves, Terry Thomas and a Passion for Angling with Chris Yates and Bob James. I’ve recently simplified my own approach to fishing and gone back to the days when craft meant more than barrow loads of equipment. By the way, a big hello to George who I believe was a classmate at secondary school in Rugby.
Hi Alan (Dusty?), You could well be right! Thanks for the kind words. Yes indeed, 'ditched the back breaking quantity of kit on return to angling around 2012 and certainly wouldn't go back. Glad you enjoyed it. We're just working on the next for spring release.
Now that nickname brings back memories! Now only used by friends from way back when. I’ve had quite few years away from angling too, trying different hobbies, however, angling is a pastime that endures over my other fascinations. I look forward to the Spring video. In the meantime, I may bump into you along the canals and rivers between Rugby and Stratford sometime. Tight Lines! Now that’s an expression with some history…
A really good video and explanation of how rivers perform,, hopefully when the really small stream/ river near me recedes I will try to find a fish,, or two .. I’ve not a clue what may or may not reside,, so it’s an interesting challenge... plenty of warm clothes, a flask and a few hours enjoying...
Fabulous stuff takes me back to my youth captures angling in just the spirit it should be I grew up fishing the very same swims born in Leamington spa I fished a few of your matches in a former life now live on other side of the world still try and get out fishing most weeks all the best 👍👍👍

Excellent. Relaxing, entertaining and highly informative. Captures the essence of small river fishing with insight and intelligence. I'm off chubbing to the Evenlode later this week. I hope it's as good as this.
Artificial flight yes it is .. however there are signal crayfish along it . Last winter I had chub to over 4lb and perch to 2.6 ... fishing in the manner that you are in the film . Chub on bread and or cheese paste . Perch on a lobworm with red maggots fed by catapult . And all from a free stretch .. 🌞🍂🍄🍁
I won't make the obvious "Mr Crabtree" connections but having been a dedicated angler in my teens, & latterly, just a summer, 6-10 sessions a year on lakes kind of guy, your videos are tempting me to get out there in winter to relive my youth. I'll definitely be looking for chub on the Nene near Earls Barton or roach/perch on the GUC soon. Thanks for the inspiration, none of us know how many opportunities we have left so we need to get out there when we can.
Excellent video I will be fishing light from now on instead of lugging the kitchen sink around, roving light looks much more enjoyable on my local warks Avon homemade blue cheese paste here I come. I fished the Bedfordshire ouse hard last year and had chub to 6 lb 9oz Keep up the good work you wouldn't be out of place with Chris Yates and Bob James Supurd Sir
Very kind words indeed Andrew, thank you so much. It's certainly a whole different approach limiting oneself and relying on reading the water to catch with minimal bait options
Thank you Peter, I grew up racing back from playing footie for the cubs on a Sunday(?) lunchtime to watch him when I was a kid. Never thought of it then as archive material, but his world is one that has totally disappeared in my lifetime. This kind of fishing is a tenuous link to a lost age, for me anyway. eric

Thank you for your comments. Good luck with the big Chub hunt! Quite tricky at the moment though with incessant high levels, lobworm have worked best in coloured water lately.
Wonderful.. tranquility itself. I used to Love "out of town" and my most treasured book was Mr Crabtree Pike fishing. The pictures in it were superb. Probably quite sought after now I imagine? Thanks for this delightful video, I'm feeling very inspired now, unfortunately I don't have a current rod license and will have to wait til April I believe in order to get a years worth. Bit frustrating, but hey...
Great atmospheric video and music, took me back to fishing every night after school and before being blinded by Match fishing and Carp fishing sitting behind 3 rods and buzzers. Now I am back to fishing the Beck of my youth trotting a stick float and using a pin. Today's tackle shops don't stock for the running water angler well my local shop don't being based on commercial complex's. What type of rod are you using
Hi Neil, No it's very much a different world, angling in 2020, to the what the audience that we hope like our meagre offerings might want to pursue. We get pretty much everything online and 80% of it is just basic tackle. You really don't have to spend £150+ on a rod if you don't have the means, or the desire. It's an old 1.25t.c. Avon/Quiver. Loads on the market at sensible prices still and you'll get something perfectly usable for well under £100 I'm sure. Thanks for the message!
Thoroughly enjoyed all your videos, bread, worms, spam will catch fish, as shown watercraft is the key. I fish a small river for chub and it holds a few barbel would you still use the same tactics and use meat or would it be better to use stronger rod and lead clip etc.
Depends how big the barbel are Matt An important thing to consider is that the quicker you can get the barbel out the better as they fight so hard it can take them time to recover, especially in hot weather so a rod of a least 1.75lbs t.c. is advisable and, yes, a lead clip is wise not least because you can quickly change lead/feeder really quickly if you need to. You can certainly follow the same plan though and just put a few samples in a few swims and give each one 20 minutes. You'll need a much longer hook link for barbel though, 1m is ideal. Thanks again for you comments
@@artificialflight1942 I have fished the Cherwell for 30 years, which is a classic small chub river. Small river as opposed to small chub that is. It also used to have pockets of good sized barbel but in all those 30 years, and many hundreds of chub , I only ever caught one barbel whilst targeting chub. What is strange though is that I also caught a lot of very good Cherwell barbel when I specifically fished for them. I have always found that a bit hard to understand.
@@RAINBOW44100 Interesting observation that! I've never had a barbel on bread while chub fishing, despite some saying they catch them on it, only pellets, meat or casters.
I have revisited this and your other films so many times now. Lost track. I recommend them to everybody I know that has the slightest interest in the natural world. But I'd really like to know what rod is that?
Thank you Olle, we're very grateful. It's just an ordinary 1.25tc Avon Quiver of 11'/3.3m. You don't need to spend lots of money for good enough kit these days!
Hi Sean, If you stick to the simple rule to use bread if it's a bit coloured or clear, and lobworms if it's very coloured you won't go too far wrong. To judge the colour a rough guide is to roll up a 1p sized bit of bread so that it sinks and if you can still see it 20cm down into the water it's a bread day and if not it's a worm day. On worm days its often best to cut a whole worm in half and hook the cut ends, then hold them on the hook with a red rubber maggot. Cut worms are usually more successful than whole ones. I hope that helps!
So I headed out today found a lovely stretch did some trotting on a centre pin wich was tricky at first but I enjoyed i caught 5 chub 1 roach the chub were roughly bout the same just under a pound but still good fun thanks for your help .

@@artificialflight1942 I intend to go back to Hunningham soon, have just treated myself to my first centre pin after 35 years of angling and had a look afew weeks ago, narrower and more reeds but still very fishy, will keep you posted, btw where on the Leam were you , looked like Offchurch.
So we're we Steve, so we're we! Sadly it, unlike this winter, was very dry and opportunities, on what are otherwise clear waters, were few. Pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for your thoughts.
"with the fish in the net it'll be time to move on". Because no one ever caught multiple chub in one swim 🙄.. Also for the record I think most people would not consider that river to be a "small stream" small river yes, but not a small stream.
Interesting points you make BW! Firstly, we find when roving on local rivers and streams (which have low fish populations) it's best to take a fish, feed the swim and then return later to have a greater chance of more fish. There are very few swims were even 2 chub can be taken in quick succession especially when the water is clear as per the swim where the comment you refer to is made. Also, some of the swims featured are wide and/or deep holes whereas a few yards away you could jump across and it's just a few inches deep. We expressed both river & stream in the opening titles. Thanks for your thoughts.
had 6 chub over 5lb in the late 70's early 80's river lyne cumbria, and some good dace too. havent seen a chub or dace in there for over 20 years, great shame i think it would qualify for a fairly small river, bit bigger than yours though
Sad tale John. If you've read Tony Miles books you'll know the R Leam produced 5's decades ago too. Quite a few of the scenes are of wider sections of generally much narrower rivers. In fact, looking back, I guess that's a bit misleading as you could jump over them in other places.
It is. It's just a basic 1.25lb t.c. Avon/Quiver James. Lots of manufacturers produce suitable rods of this type at a reasonable price. Thanks for your interest.
cought one 2 k (4lb) a week ago and was told that it has too much bones and is not that good of a white fish meat, take that with a grain of salt tho.. might be good to you, bu there are better choices to eat, i just let them go ^^
Thank you for your question. The fish in the film can't be eaten. It is illegal to take general coarse fish from rivers to eat if they're over 20cm long and it will probably also breach the fishing clubs rules, if one controls the water.
Catch and release! Fish are cheap enough to buy in the markets! Our rivers need protecting, we have imported craw fish, minks all distroying our fisheries! We dont need to add to the problem! Also you should have a fishing license, if you dont you are committing an offences. this goes to anyone reading this....Fed up going to the fishing banks, seeing crap left, tins of sweetcorn, meet, beer cans..thrown away gear package etc etc........ive always defended pepople who fish (me being one of them) my claim is that fisherman are naturist, we clean the crap up we see on the banks, take care of the fish,..but not everyones the same. Irrespective of culture people should respect the local customs and fishing laws, if not stay at home! simple! There should be a ban on taking any fish from the rivers!! And those caught given a substancial fine!! Theres no need to do it. Yes u know this pisses me off!!!!!!! Its not about education, people know the laws, but people dont give a shit...

Simply amazing, very well narated and nice angling I'm fond of stalking chub myself as a breather from my carp fishing I even dig out the pin and folding net thanks for a very pleasant video
Thanks for your comment Adam.
A break from carp fishing to pursue chub is surely never a bad thing!
Indeed it's also great for keeping active during the colder months I also like perch fishing with lobs and prawn on my vintage tackle it allows me to escape to my childhood for a day thanks for your reply your content is great I really like the passion for angling vibe and your fantastic editing please keep up the content theirs not a lot like you on here and that's very special
From a young angler to an old, you have my utmost respect! And you’ve gained another sub. Keep it up mate.
Old! Cheeky so and so! 😂
No, but seriously Connor, thank you. We're so pleased that this appeals to you too given that it's a bit if a throwback film.
Anything that inspires anyone is great news to us.
Good luck with your fishing matey and do keep in touch.
Artificial flight you take care my man, and good luck on your future ventures!

Oh, thanks Alex. Glad you enjoyed it.
Wow what a great little insight into winter chub fishing, which I'm just getting into myself. Fed up with sitting by a pond or lake, I'm really enjoying the roving. Great tactics which I'll try this weekend. Thanks. More please !
Thank you Richard, 'glad you found it useful.
There are three other films that you may perhaps by now have found and our fifth is being edited at present.

Love the way this video is done ..🎣👏
Good to hear!

When's the next instalment, its got that passion for angling mood to it.
It's something completely different to a lot on UA-cam,
Love it.
This is just marvelous, thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to view it
Most excellent sir
Very passion for angling like, love the classic piano 🎹 background music so relaxing and peaceful
Also some nice fishing to what seems to be a very experienced chub angler

@@artificialflight1942 Indeed 👍🏻 more on chub please 😉😉
We're pleased you agree with our outlook on the sport Thomas, thank you, and, yes, more filming is underway.
takes me back this was awesome love the narrative **SUBBED**
We're very pleased that you enjoyed it gg.

Thank you for your support Scott. It helps a great deal to know you're enjoying them
I just found your channel and I watched every video in a single day.
Thanks for your comment.
Angling has not been appreciated in respect of mental health until recently but its certainly unbeatable in that respect!
Hi Alan (Dusty?),
You could well be right!
Good luck Michael!

Excellent. Relaxing, entertaining and highly informative. Captures the essence of small river fishing with insight and intelligence. I'm off chubbing to the Evenlode later this week. I hope it's as good as this.

It did the trick then Robert!
Thanks very much for your comment.
The Blythe is a mile from my house 👍😊
So is it any good now Baz?
Artificial flight yes it is .. however there are signal crayfish along it . Last winter I had chub to over 4lb and perch to 2.6 ... fishing in the manner that you are in the film . Chub on bread and or cheese paste . Perch on a lobworm with red maggots fed by catapult . And all from a free stretch .. 🌞🍂🍄🍁
Can't help thinking that crays help where chub and perch are present.
Very true Steve. I shall be on the Nene regularly later in 2020 myself. Looking forward to it, and we hope you catch a few!
Excellent video I will be fishing light from now on instead of lugging the kitchen sink around, roving light looks much more enjoyable on my local warks Avon homemade blue cheese paste here I come.
I fished the Bedfordshire ouse hard last year and had chub to
6 lb 9oz
Keep up the good work you wouldn't be out of place with Chris Yates and Bob James
Supurd Sir
Sorry superb
Very kind words indeed Andrew, thank you so much.
It's certainly a whole different approach limiting oneself and relying on reading the water to catch with minimal bait options
Absolutely wonderful so much like Mr Hargreaves 👍👍
Thank you Peter, I grew up racing back from playing footie for the cubs on a Sunday(?) lunchtime to watch him when I was a kid. Never thought of it then as archive material, but his world is one that has totally disappeared in my lifetime. This kind of fishing is a tenuous link to a lost age, for me anyway. eric

I love this kind of winter fishing for Chub (Perch too) recent outings on a small local river have been blanks sadly, so I can watch and learn, and fingers crossed, I'll get a better chub than my 2 and a 1/2 lb best so far fish!
Great book indeed Stephen! Glad it took you there. Thanks for your interest.
What type of rod are you using
Hi Neil,
No it's very much a different world, angling in 2020, to the what the audience that we hope like our meagre offerings might want to pursue.
Published on my birthday
Splendid
Yes, we knew that Dougs. Took you a while 😉
top new channel, ive subbed, keep em coming.
Thank you Neale. Always nice to get more followers!
Thoroughly enjoyed all your videos, bread, worms, spam will catch fish, as shown watercraft is the key. I fish a small river for chub and it holds a few barbel would you still use the same tactics and use meat or would it be better to use stronger rod and lead clip etc.
Depends how big the barbel are Matt
An important thing to consider is that the quicker you can get the barbel out the better as they fight so hard it can take them time to recover, especially in hot weather so a rod of a least 1.75lbs t.c. is advisable and, yes, a lead clip is wise not least because you can quickly change lead/feeder really quickly if you need to.
@@RAINBOW44100
Interesting observation that!
You don't need to spend lots of money for good enough kit these days!
lovely video enjoyed it
Great! Thanks Keith
I'm going to fish a little brook i know there is chub in there and there is some deeper areas just wondering what method would be best 🤔
Hi Sean,
If you stick to the simple rule to use bread if it's a bit coloured or clear, and lobworms if it's very coloured you won't go too far wrong.
@@artificialflight1942 thanks i will definitely take your advice and give it a go 👍

@artificialflight1942 No problem and thanks very much 👍
"with the fish in the net it'll be time to move on".
Thanks for your thoughts.
had 6 chub over 5lb in the late 70's early 80's river lyne cumbria, and some good dace too.
havent seen a chub or dace in there for over 20 years, great shame
i think it would qualify for a fairly small river, bit bigger than yours though
Sad tale John.
If you've read Tony Miles books you'll know the R Leam produced 5's decades ago too.
Quite a few of the scenes are of wider sections of generally much narrower rivers. In fact, looking back, I guess that's a bit misleading as you could jump over them in other places.
Hello what rod are you using please it looks great for playing chub with ??
It is.
It's just a basic 1.25lb t.c. Avon/Quiver James.
Lots of manufacturers produce suitable rods of this type at a reasonable price.
Thanks for your interest.

Do they taste good?
cought one 2 k (4lb) a week ago and was told that it has too much bones and is not that good of a white fish meat, take that with a grain of salt tho.. might be good to you, bu there are better choices to eat, i just let them go ^^
Thank you for your question.
The fish in the film can't be eaten.
It is illegal to take general coarse fish from rivers to eat if they're over 20cm long and it will probably also breach the fishing clubs rules, if one controls the water.
@@artificialflight1942 That wont make any difference to them. They are emptying the waters.
