Two other really good videos are his cover of As The Years Go Passing By at the Stuttgart Jazz Festival in 1995, and a cover of How Blue Can You Get at the Notodden Blues Festival in Norway in 2006. That latter one was only about 18 months before his passing.
He's from Canada and he lost his sight at the age of 1 from a rare form of cancer. You need to check out him and Stevie Ray doing Look At Little Sister. He and his band were also the house band in the movie Roadhouse. He passed away in 2008.
saw him live in Toronto 1/2 a dozen times .. great show Jeff ... RIP ... Awesome 🥰 he would get up & wander around the stage following the cables but hed get off track & the roadies would have to retrieve him before he fell off stage... he was a force
Jeff Healey has an awesome catalog of music. He was amazing to watch and hear! I first saw him back when the movie Roadhouse came out as they were the house band in the bar scenes of the movie and I just fell in love with him and his music not to mention his unique skill on the guitar. After that I looked for all his music and followed him ever since. I love his song “Confidence Man,” his music is all good but I just love the words and energy of that song! Angel Eyes is a great slow song but it’s beautiful too.❤
I don't know if you have heard of Peter Frampton. But he was big in the 70s. His live album is still one of the best. He has a good voice, amazing guitar skills, and maestro on the talk box, which he made popular. You can watch him on the midnight special. The song do you feel like we do showcases his rymthatic guitar skills. Finally was inducted into thevr&r hall of fame this year. Love him. I think Bob seger is my favorite musician with 6 decades of hits.
Saw the Jeff Healey band in 1986 or '87 at Memorial University in Newfoundland (MUN) when I was a student. This crazy mother threw his gituar on the flood and jumped on it. He played it note for note. WEARING BOOTS! NO SHIT! He did that. The only 2 acts that ever made my jaw drop to the ground was Jeff Healey and KISS. RIP Jeff.
to famed Toronto blues club Albert’s Hall in 1985 where a then 19-year-old Healey - already renowned in Canada - was discovered by none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. Some years later, Vaughan, the man I’d consider my favorite guitarist of all time, proclaimed Healey as the best guitar player in the world. That’s good enough for me. I can't believe he doesn't mention the legendary blues artist Dr John.
Jeff Healey was a Canadian icon. 🇨🇦 He lost his sight to ocular cancer when he was one. He received a guitar from his father when he was three. It was hard for him to hold the guitar the usual way at that age so he put it in his lap. Stevie Ray Vaughan said Jeff was the only guy that really pushed him to do better. Unfortunately cancer came back to claim him when he was 41. Two legends gone too soon.
Jammed with him at a club across the street from the El Mocambo called Grossmans Tavern. My wife was one of his nurses when he was sadly dying of cancer
@@setonhillstudios pretty small music community in Toronto. I was a pro guitarist for about 26 years. Settled into playing mostly blues. Hey have you heard of Matt Schofield? Having lost his sight to cancer at age 1 Jeff had never seen anybody play guitar. He didn't know their was a "right" way or a "wrong" way to play. He simply did what felt natural to him. And it obviously worked. We lost a great talent in Jeff Healey.
Jeff lost his sight at 1 year old due to a cancer behind his eyes. Unfortunately, that same cancer took his life at, I believe, 41. His parents gave him a guitar as a child to give him something to do. With no lessons and no one to even teach him how to hold a guitar, Jeff just started playing how it was comfortable for him - on his lap. This is the result of a short lifetime of practice. I think his biggest hit was called, Angel Eyes, and it's a far cry from this. More pop, toned down type of song. He has a performance with SRV on a song called, Look At Little Sister. Straight fire, but this is my fav from him that I've seen. Amazing talent!!!
GREAT reaction!! You might not have heard of him because I don't know how big he was in the US (Stevie Ray knew him though! And he & his band played the house band in Road House!). This lineup was epic! Healey, Dr. John, Omar, Marcus - talk about legendary! Jeff was a Canadian, from Toronto, and he was pretty big up here! My wife and I saw him in 2000, and they blew the doors off the place! He did a cover of Sunshine Of Your Love by Cream that I still remember clearly, 24 years later! What an insane talent, and he could play the trumpet too! Cancer took his sight when he was one, and unfortunately it also claimed his life in 2008 (he was 41). He, Dr. John & SRV are lighting it up in heaven! What a party. Cheers from Canada, eh!
I love Mr Healy. The movie Road house with Patrick Swayze. HEALY Was the house band. So most of music was him. Forget what 2nd movie was called. Another Canadian Master! Cheers
On the piano is Dr. John! A great artist also! Saw him at the New Orleans Jazz Festival one year. Definitely worth checking out, he is the personification of cool!
I have related this elsewhere on UA-cam, however I can't help but repeat it, truth it being and damn lucky as I was ... Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, early evening on a warm summer Thursday: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local dance club / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and there would likely be pretty girls there! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup to get in, with posters advertising a live performer (not usual) debuting that night, with praises by the likes of B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kinda looked at each other quizzically. 🤔 They sat him down in a chair onstage, handed him an electric guitar, which he placed on his lap 😯 ... then, when they started to play ... my world changed. Forever. It was Jeff Healey and his band, before their first album came out: I had never heard of him/them before, but he, specifically, had my attention now. He proceeded to play the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played country, he even played a bit of what sounded like flamenco. He played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience onstage. Despite it being a dance club, NOBODY danced that night. Every person, patrons and staff alike, stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what they were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again three nights the following week, as they were playing a two week gig there. Their first album came out shortly thereafter, and then he was in a movie with Patrick Swayze, and then ... well, I sadly never got to see Jeff Healey perform live again. But I still feel blessed, and I shall never forget how amazing the experience was that first night I saw him play! 😊 Rock on, dude! ✊️
Jeff Healey was a Canadian icon! My favourite time seeing him live was when he opened for Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan in Toronto for their 1989 Fire Meets the Fury Tour.
💥💥Yeah Jeff Healey was the man he's was awesome 💯😎 but as far as his technique of playing, so The story goes , he started playing at 3 years old but somewhere down the line he started out trying to play the guitar traditionally and it just wasn't comfortable for him so he laid it in his lap and learn it like that he couldn't see so he didn't know how anyone else was playing a guitar so he just went with what he could do and that's what he ended up doing playing it in his lap 🔥 Angel eyes original song a ballad but awesome But there's some live footage playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan too that's worth checking out He's got an awesome covered of WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS that's worth checking out. And some other original stuff But yeah we lost him too early he's from Canada died back at his home at the age of 41 R.I.P 🎶🌹JEFF🌹🎶 AWESOME REACTION 👏🏻💯 KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 💪🏻👍🏻
It was amazing. Saw him tons of times at his bar, Healey’s in Toronto. His best performance, in my opinion, on UA-cam is as the years go passing by in Germany. I think you will love it. Cheers from 🇨🇦
Oh man, Jeff was one of the greats, and a real treasure up here in Canada. I was lucky enough to see him live a couple of times, and his talent was off the chain all the way. This video is an awesome one-off, as this isn't his band, it's an all-star assembly of talent, including the legendary Dr. John on piano. If you love this, you should definitely check him out playing "As The Years Go Passing By" live in Germany, it's absolutely breathtaking stuff. Great choice, and great reaction as always - much love from Canada!
I believe he plays guitar that way , which I have never seen any other blind guitarist play that way , because he was self taught and blind he didn't know any different . He had never seen anyone play . So that's what you get . One special unique talent . RIP .
Hi, hope you're doing well. I was 17 years old and my friend calls saying we've got to go to downtown Calgary to see a blind guitar player. We were both really young and I don't know how we got in, but we did !!. Incredible show and I'll never forget it forget it. Just a few years after I have become a stagehand and I set up the show and ran spotlight. Full circle
I have two Jeff Healy stories. I'm from Scarborough. Just north of Scarborough is Markham and they had a little basement bar called Dirty Berts that had jam nights my bandmates and I would go to. One night Jeff comes in with a little entourage and takes a table. Later he got up and did a half hour session for us I'll never forget. The next time I saw him was when he and Jeff Beck opened for Stevie Ray Vaughn, shortly before he passed.
I was fortunate to see him live with my son. Quite simply, the greatest feckin' live performance I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot! The guy was incredible! RIP Jeff...
@@setonhillstudios Absolutely! Halfway through his first song, I looked around the audience, and the crowd had a look of shock on their faces. Audience reaction was incredible all the way through. Jeff was an unbelievable talent, and I count myself fortunate to have seen him live.
I’m sure your question has already been answered….yes he is blind. He was one of our Canadian gems and legend. Sadly he passed away from cancer, it must be getting in 20 years now. I love that you check out our bands from Canada. We have so many that didn’t get the exposure they should have. Honeymoon Suite Headpins Payolas Helix Chilliwack Haywire I better end my list here because I could go on for a long time
Healey is literally in my top 3-4 guitarists of all time. He was a phenomenal player. Predicting his next lick, even in a 12 bar blues, is impossible. He takes his playing in random places you dont see coming. Always intense and amazing.
Cool story. Headed to my local music shoppe / hangout in summer of '88 when I not quite yet 18. Owners were walking out as I was headed in and they were closing shop early. They said they were headed to see Jeff Healey. I said who is that? He's that blind guitarist that was recently on the Tonight Show. I hadnt seen it. They asked if I wanted to come along and I was elated to go, without even having the slightest clue what I was in for. Needless to say my mind was absolutely blown! This song was one of the highlights. My guess is you have probably heard his song Angel Eyes on radio at least in passing at some point. He did a great cover of While my guitar Gently Weeps too. Jeff became one of my lifelong favorites. Super nice guy too. RIP. He was also the house bar band in the movie Road House with Patrick Swayze. I was on a musical high that night and went home and told my dad all about the show! Great memory! ❤❤❤ PS He also played Jazz trumpet and made some albums later in his career doing that.
He is phenomenal! One of my favorites of all time, I've been listening to him for years. Sadly he passed away years ago and he was still quite younger. He also played as the house band in the movie " Roadhouse" with Patrick Swayze which is also a great movie!
Great video. I love the reaction. Growing up with his music, watching him play with SRV, i find it amazing that you have not heard him before. Search him out. He was amazing.
Jeff just live a few doors down from my wife when they were kids...even back then my wife said he would ride around on his bike pretty good not letting his handicap get in his way
Funny, in the movie Roadhouse, Patrick Swayze says to Jeff, “You Play Pretty Good for a Blind White Boy” YES, YES HE DOES! Jeff was just an amazing guitar player and singer. So much talent. “My Guitar Gently Weeps” (cover) is Amazing and “Angel Eyes”
Dr. John the King of Ragtime piano. Jeff was also an accomplished Jazz trumpeter. You know you are tearing it up when Marcus walks up and looks over your shoulder to watch you during a solo. Omar the Beast laying down. Doesn't get much better. Kind of makes you feel like a wimp for all of the times you said, "I can't".
I saw Jeff Healey at a small venue in Saskatoon Canada probably only around 250 - 300 people in February 1989, probably shortly after this particular performance in 1988. The Jeff Healey Band absolutely shook the packed house down and one of those rare moments in life to see such a Guitar Icon with just an absolute solid band. He had a really great Jazz Show on CBC Radio.
You’d get total Big time creds from Canada if you did a reaction to the Song “Action” by the band Streetheart from the album Meanwhile Back in Paris. Kenney Shields is an amazing vocalist and at the time of the Album, had three of the forming members of LoverBoy. The song “Action” is an absolute kick ass song.
I've been a fan of Jeff Healey since I first heard him in the 80s. You may recognize him from the Patrick Swayze movie "Roadhouse" and he can clearly kick the butt of many sighted guitarists...then he starts singing. RIP Jeff--you are missed. p.s. there is video of Jeff and Stevie Ray playing together. It is blazin' fire!
There is a video of Jeff and SRV doing a duet Look at Little Sister. I suggest you take a look at that one. It is sad they are both no longer with us. Also from what I have read Jeff did learn to play the guitar the regular way but found the way he is playing here more comfortable. He was a wonderful talent that was taken too soon.
@SetonHillStudios oh you young people....I love watching you discover music a lot of us have taken for granted because it was part of our life Extra thumbs up
Some years ago I went to a ZZ Top concert in San Francisco & the Jeff Healy Band was the opening band. He stood most of the show with his bassist shadowing him on the stage, and bumping him towards the mic, or away from the edge of the stage.
Let's Gooooo!A Canadian legend. I saw Jeff a little dive bar in Toronto the early 80s and he was phenomenal. My face looked exactly how yours looks right now 😂He blew up a couple of years later. Little sister with Jeff and SRV is a must my friend. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
This was an outstanding performance. I am a big fan of Dr. John and Marcus Miller. I may look for a link with each of them. Great job on this one, Steven! Thank you.
Music was his life & love he was one of the most talented musicians when he was alive- he played multiple instruments- played multiple genres of music (especially jazz) & had a music library that would rival any radio station !
I forgot to mention in my previous comment about Jeff, he and his band appear in the movie Roadhouse. The original one that starred Patrick Swayze, Kelly Preston and Sam Elliot. Jeff and his band are the house band in the bar that Swayze is the cooler for. Jeff has a few lines in the movie as well. The band was most of the movie's soundtrack as well.
Jeff was 3 years old when he got his first guitar. His hands couldn’t fit around the neck so this is how he taught himself how to play. He does an incredible version of While my guitar gently weeps.

Love this. I’ve been a Jeff Healey fan since back in the day. He’s amazing. Thanks for the reaction. 🤘🎸🎤❤️👍🙂🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!! Unreal!! 😳
I was fortunate enough to see him live once in my home town in the mid 80's. He was a true one of a kind absolute beast legend!!!
I was fortunate to see him live with my son. Quite simply, the greatest feckin' live performance I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot! The guy was incredible! RIP Jeff...
He’s unreal!! I bet it’s a wild experience to see him live! 😁
Honeymoon Suite
Headpins
Payolas
Helix
Chilliwack
Haywire
I better end my list here because I could go on for a long time
Jeff Healey was also in the movie Roadhouse
You mentioned SVR, well your next reaction should be Jeff and SRV together playing Look at Little Sister. Pure Fire!!!!!
Also a great jazz player!! RIP Jeff.
Jeff Healey was on the Patrick Swayze movie Road House.
Healey is literally in my top 3-4 guitarists of all time. He was a phenomenal player. Predicting his next lick, even in a 12 bar blues, is impossible. He takes his playing in random places you dont see coming. Always intense and amazing.
a great Canadian. RIP Jeff, we miss you
and Dr John on the piano.. another legend.. RIP
There is video of him and SRV playing together that is really cool.
That’s legendary!! Thanks for sharing!
He is phenomenal! One of my favorites of all time, I've been listening to him for years. Sadly he passed away years ago and he was still quite younger. He also played as the house band in the movie " Roadhouse" with Patrick Swayze which is also a great movie!
Jeff was the bar band in the movie Roadhouse and killed it !!
Great video. I love the reaction. Growing up with his music, watching him play with SRV, i find it amazing that you have not heard him before. Search him out. He was amazing.
Jeff just live a few doors down from my wife when they were kids...even back then my wife said he would ride around on his bike pretty good not letting his handicap get in his way
Such a great talent gone way to soon RIP JEFF❤️🙏🏼🎸 first time I seen this it left me speechless too
When greatest guitarist are talked about Healey is not mentioned
That’s a shame if you ask me! 🤘🏻🎸
Yea, He Did Say That But Jeff Answered Him Back With The Line I Thought You Would Be Bigger !!!! Cause Patrick Played A Bounces !!!!
I remember watching this the first time it was broadcast on Toronto's Global TV. It melted m y mind and still does.
That’s awesome! I bet that is a night you will never forget! 😁
@@setonhillstudios It was at the right time right place and I believe Jeff Healey was nominated for a Grammy in 1990.
I've always loved this cat, man❤❤❤❤
Unreal!!!! 🔥🔥
Check out Angel Eyes, and I think I love you too much. He was also in the movie 'Roadhouse.'
I’ll have to check it out! Appreciate it! 😁
Steve, love your reaction to Jeff, his signature number is CONFIDENCE MAN you'll love it, great job Sir.
Jeff Healey was a MONSTER on the guitar and so was his band who recorded 5 studio albums 1 being a covers album.PURE FIRE 🔥
Canadian hero and blind.
Reviewed it today! Unreal!! 🔥🔥
as a drummer you should hear a song by Thin Lizzy called Sitamoia the drums are fantastic
Jeff Healy and his band were the bar band in the first Roadhouse movie.
@SetonHillStudios oh you young people....I love watching you discover music a lot of us have taken for granted because it was part of our life
Extra thumbs up
Some years ago I went to a ZZ Top concert in San Francisco & the Jeff Healy Band was the opening band.
He stood most of the show with his bassist shadowing him on the stage, and bumping him towards the mic, or away from the edge of the stage.
He was bad ass in roadhouse
My fave guitarist ❤️ The man the Legend!
RIP brother.
✌️❤️ From 🇦🇺
Let's Gooooo!A Canadian legend.
Thank you.
A star!
I was waiting for this one.
Unbelievable!! 🔥🔥
Music was his life & love he was one of the most talented musicians when he was alive- he played multiple instruments- played multiple genres of music (especially jazz) & had a music library that would rival any radio station !
Angel Eyes was my favorite of his songs. I hope you'll do it. Personally, I'd prefer a studio version of that one.
"Jeff had one of the classic lines in roadhouse '''"Patrick -you play pretty good for a blind white boy "...Jeff "yea and I thought you'd be bigger"
He was in the movie Roadhouse. I really like his version of Bluejean Blues
Fortunate enough to have seen him around 86 or 87 in a small bar in Pittsburgh- it was such a fabulous show. He was amazing
Check out 1989 "Road House."
There's also a great version with him and Stevie Ray Vaghn. TWO LENGENDS IN THE SAME ROOM
It’s on the channel already! Absolutely loved it! 🔥
Love his cover of All Along The Watchtower, Live from London
Please check out “Angel Eyes “
Another Canadian Jazz player for you.
gotta see Live vid of him playing with SRV.....fantastic!!
Damn it....Just. Damn it. WHOA
