I've been collecting records since 1955. I'm just an old fart music lover. The keyboard player is Reese Wynans who's in the rock and roll hall of fame and played with Stevie Ray Vaughn. The other guitarist is another blues legend, Kurt Fletcher. If you count Joe's studio albums, live albums and collaboration albums it totals 36.... I have 26. He's sold more blues records and has had more #1 Blues/Rock hits than anyone in history... yes I'm a fan... He's also in the rock band Black Country Communion (4 albums). He's also in Rock Candy Funk Party (3 albums). And his work with Beth Hart (4 albums)... I'd like to suggest "Mountain Time" live at the Royal Albert Hall... "Angel of Mercy" live at the Greek Theater... his acoustic work, "Trouble Town" live at Radio City Music Hall, or any of his acoustic from the Vienna Opera House of Carnegie Hall ... Take it from this old guy; the rabbit hole is very deep. Enjoy the trip.

I'm just a tad younger than you; but still an old fart music lover as well. Everything you said is dead on correct. He was also a child prodigy, opening for BB King at 12 years old! And on the business side of the music world Joe is unique in that he and his biz partner own their label so he gets more cash; that's how he can tour with brass and a world class band surrounding him. Also on the biz side... Joe and his long time business partner book venues with cash up front, so they get 90% of the ticket revenue. That's how you own a guitar collection valued in the multi-millions of dollars. Cheers!

Joe Bonamassa's father owned a music store, Joe got his first guitar around 5-6 yrs old. At 11 years old he was opening for BB King. He has paid his dues. The Keyboard player is Reece Wyans. Former keyboard player for Stevie Ray Vaughn.

This was the final show in Joe's "Three Kings" tour, where he featured the music of Albert King, B.B. King, and Freddie King. You'll notice on this song he is playing Albert King's guitar "Lucy". Albert played left-handed, that's why the knobs are on the top of the body (since Joe is playing right-handed).
Joe wears the sunglasses on stage because he says the spotlights hurt his eyes and cause them to water.
Just saw him for the third time last week. Had seats in row D; it was fantastic!

Love that you recognise Joe and I totally agree with you about David Gilmore sound… Joe has so many influences in his interpretation of music when you watch and listen to his incredible repertoire, but one stands out to me the most (especially in blues rock) the Irish powerhouse Gary Moore!
If you haven’t gone down that rabbit hole, I recommend you do my friend, you won’t be disappointed, and fall in love with blues rock all over again.🎸
    Cheers 🍻

One of the GOAT! By the way that's "Albert King's" guitar who played left handed so Joe turned it over and put strings on to play right handed and all the knobs are in the upside down position. Joe has a record label KTBA (Keeping The Blues Alive) and his company is helping other blues players like Kurt to cut their own albums! ❤

The post below covered bonamassa's history pretty well. However, for the record, this concert was outdoors. Though... it was at night.😅 Bonamassa claims he suffers from light sensitivity, hence the shades. I really think it's the look he's after, cuz he's pretty geeky without them! In fact, he prides himself on being a nerd. The difference between his talking voice (see any interview he's ever done) and bluesy singing voice never fails to amaze me!

You pointed out how they'll play a line and then "Doodle-Doodle-Do" (I think that's close to how you described it), that's the basis for blues and other types of music. It known as "Call and Response".
Joe wears his sunglasses indoors because his eyes are extremely light sensitive, and the stage lighting pretty much blinds him without them. My mother had the same problem with light sensitivity, and wore her sunglasses any time she was in bright light.

I've been a fan of Joe for a long time and I finally got to see him live on the 2022 fall tour. I love the blues rock sound and I too am a big hard rock/metal fan. As awesome as a metal band guitar solo is, a blues guitar solo is even more epic. Blues guitar solos have so much passion , depth and feeling to them.
Yes Lee maybe you need to broaden your horizons. There is a lot of really cool new blues rock out there and an almost unlimited supply of classic old school blues out there.

Although Joe is a huge Blues proponent he is actually a blues rock artist. One of the most popular songs that he has ever played is The Ballad of John Henry and probably the most jaw-dropping performance you will ever see is Joe with Eric Gales playing this song live aboard a cruise ship. It's the most incredible guitar duel you will ever wish to see. It went viral and consequently Joe produced Eric's album Crown that was nominated for a Grammy award this year. Now that would be a reaction video to watch. I'm not kidding your jaw will be on the floor.

Good reaction and awareness of the Rock and Blues correlation. Without the Blues Rock & Roll would not exist. Pretty much all early Rock came from Blues mixed with other genres and some added gifts. Many riffs used in Rock songs came directly from Blues. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Eric Clapton, etc. play Blues and changed their music somewhat to fit the Rock genre, but Blues was the baseline for much of their music. Joe B. learned guitar in another life and came back to bless those who stumble upon his music in this life! The history of the genres of music is a fantastic voyage and the understanding of much of it is very enlightening. Doing as you are in listening to different genres is a great way to learn the hidden musical treasures that many have given us over the years! As you have seemly waken up to Blues, try some Blues/Country/Soul and listen to Chris Stapleton if you haven't yet, that'll open another rabbit hole to go down for ya! ☺

Newsflash ! ! ! All blues guitarists play with passion and feeling. Blues is an emotion, so playing out the emotion, weather it is on guitar, piano, organ or mouth harp (harmonica for those that don't know); it will all be played with feeling and emotion, otherwise it's just as well
be some other genre of music. BTW . . . David Gilmour was very heavily influenced by the blues, which shows up in almost all of his music.

    Joe
    There’s at least 3 different Joe Bonamassa’s.
There’s the early years with a bass and a drummer playing the bars and the night clubs and his longer hair
Then there’s the acoustic side like his Live in Vienna set he did. Then there’s my absolute favorite song “woke up dreaming “ acoustic song. Truly bad ass
Then there’s the modern era Joe. I saw him in a concert talking about the people he brings to the stage. People so good it pushes him to be at his best. Back up singers, other musicians. He stated he wanted to bring you a world class band every time.
    Bold statement.
I enjoy all facets of Joe.
This is what separates him as a guitarist. The best guitarist in the world.
The difficulty in playing acoustic is way harder than an electric and Joe does it flawlessly.
I love the diversity in his play. The way he makes the music seem to breathe and be alive.
    Yes I’m a fan.

This venue is actually outdoors-sunglasses are for the bright lights. Of course you like it-Blues music is the foundation of Rock n’Roll…Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Santana, Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, Cream, Yardbirds, Jeff Beck and, as you mentioned, Pink Floyd-what rock band wasn’t influenced by the Blues? With Joe, you’re looking at a guy who was better than most at age 6, and a professional opening for BB King at age 12. He also plays harder rock with Black Country Communion (a ‘super group’ composed of Joe with Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian). Best of all is his blues work with singer extraordinaire BETH HART. Here are a dozen suggestions for reaction:

Cool Gibson "Flying V" from 1958 Joe is playing. The only made 100 of them, sales were slow because it might have been too far ahead it's time. Over the years Gibson brought them back a few times with better success. That aside, give Joe a ten dollar cardboard guitar and he'll make it sound like the best guitar there is. He went from a prodigy that starting learning at age 6, went pro at 11 and opened 10+ shows for BB King and the man is only 45 now. Just amazing.
