As an electrical engineering graduate student ( specialising in digital hardware design) I'm blown away by how easily he is explaining these extremely complex concepts.
Man, the SSD really has been a massive improvement over previous generations of consoles that were using HDDs. All the native PS5 titles I have load within 5 seconds or less, some games like RE8 and Rift Apart load basically instantly. I'm also really stoked that 60fps is now the norm this generation. I can't go back to 30fps now that everything I play is at 60, it is quite literally a game changer
He had the foresight to ask, and give the game devs what they wanted. But he also had the vision to add haptic feedback controllers, and advanced 3D audio that would add more realism and immersion to games. Something you won't find in other consoles. Kudos to Mark Cerny!
Thing is that he used to develop games and therefore had a better prespective on what developers needed going, even things that they didn't think they needed were added to the PS5 because Cerny understood the importance of those features and how they could be used to make making games easier.
I'd never really thought about this, but after watching this I realized that PlayStation's philosophy revolves around building the best console for the developers, before even the players. Nice.

I don't think I've ever been as convinced by a system architect to buy a console until now. Of course, it probably helps that I already have a PS5 to truly appreciate the features.
Yup same. I was planning to get a PS5 eventually when they finally stopped resolved the shortage, but now I really want one after seeing all the tech and passion that went into it, and seeing what an advance piece of engineering tech it really is! Like I wasn’t even aware of the compression feature and how games on the PS5 actually take up less space!

As an Xbox player, it’s great to hear someone speak so well and passionately about what he does. I think it’s great we have people like Mark Cerney and Phil Spencer both passionate about what they do. We as gamers are very lucky. Enjoy gaming no matter where you play it..
I get what you mean, but Phil Spencer is not really comparable to Cerny. He is more of a marketing guy. He throws around stuff like teraflops to mislead fanboys. The interview with the Xbox hardware team was pretty cringy. They were throwing buzzwords like "framerates we've never seen before" etc. The console itself is pretty awesome don't get me wrong. Mark Cerny is on the opposite end of the spectrum where he gets so educational and elaborate that he sometimes risks putting people to sleep. Honestly, I prefer the latter.
@@ethan7633 I guess I just had/have bad luck. Most of my controllers developed drift around the 300-400 hour mark. Interestingly the one I dropped is the one that lasted the longest. One of them only lasted about 100 hours. I have stopped gaming on my PlayStation entirely because I feel like a sucker replacing the same item so many times. Maybe its because I play shooters

I have a pc and the ps5. I'm blown away by all those features. I ended up getting elden ring for ps5 just because I want to experience the game with the dual sense controller. It makes a huge difference in the game.

Wow, Marble Madness was one of the first games I ever played when I was like 6 years old. it is crazy to me this guy has been designing games for literally my entire life now, and he has been behind some of my favorite experiences. Mark shaped my childhood without me even knowing it.
This man combines all the best qualities of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and thus surpasses them both, at least in the context of the video game world.
I could honestly listen to Mark for hours. What an amazing presenter and fascinating individual. You can really feel his passion for the video games and the industry as a whole.
i'm so happy that after years of consoles being considered inferior to PC gaming, the PS5 especially among the current gen consoles leaped so far into the future with new technology that now i believe we're going to have just another era of improving those features before any new innovations can occur, and that's a good thing because already the technology brought into the PS5, compared to its predecessor, makes it superior in so many dimensions, and going forward i see the most major improvements to the next say 2 generations of consoles will be having more powerful hardware to handle games at higher framerates AND high resolutions at the same time (high graphics settings at 4K while still getting 120FPS), having more capacity of that fast NVMe SSD storage and probably improve load times even more, and of course improving the already amazing haptic feedback and ergonomics of the controller.
I love how he is so knowledgeable and he can really connect the tech to the function so seamlessly, that is how you know he knows every detail of what he says. Also his voice is so calming lol
I love the fact that the PS5 did not pursuit only more powerful graphics. The SSD + Tempest + Dualsense combo really ups the ante for this generation. And PS VR 2 is just around the corner

This reminds me of listening to John Carmack. Everything they say is so lucid and clear, no matter how technical and complicated. And it comes naturally, the entire 5+ hour interview with Carmack on Lex Fridman is basically a masterpiece of lucidity and intelligence, no matter what you throw at him. Watching this video a few days after finally getting a PS5. I’m very very happy to experience new and improved hops in consoles. What I mean is just the tottal difference between the last gen and now. The 7th and 8th generation of consoles I look at like generation 5 and 6. Improved for a more control and the idea and development of complexity. This generation (I’ll even say for both teams) is a huge step in a new wave of gaming.
I would love be a fly on the wall for a conversation between Sweeney and Cerny. I would probably get lost about 5 minutes in, but it would be incredible none the less.

i'm so happy that after years of consoles being considered inferior to PC gaming, the PS5 especially among the current gen consoles leaped so far into the future with new technology that now i believe we're going to have just another era of improving those features before any new innovations can occur, and that's a good thing because already the technology brought into the PS5, compared to its predecessor, makes it superior in so many dimensions, and going forward i see the most major improvements to the next say 2 generations of consoles will be having more powerful hardware to handle games at higher framerates AND high resolutions at the same time (high graphics settings at 4K while still getting 120FPS), having more capacity of that fast NVMe SSD storage and probably improve load times even more, and of course improving the already amazing haptic feedback and ergonomics of the controller.

I love the fact that the PS5 did not pursuit only more powerful graphics. The SSD + Tempest + Dualsense combo really ups the ante for this generation. And PS VR 2 is just around the corner

Mark Cerny has been working on PlayStation since the early 1990s he's pretty much the unofficial vice president on the technical side for the entire division of course you will see him in the team that builds the PlayStation 6

Great to see Steam add DualSense support and some PC developers inserting features, since it's a great modern controller for many genres.
We need to start a petition to PlayStation to get official full support driver and software for the dualsense on PC so we can use all their functions on PC and game developers can add those features to pc games

This reminds me of listening to John Carmack. Everything they say is so lucid and clear, no matter how technical and complicated. And it comes naturally, the entire 5+ hour interview with Carmack on Lex Fridman is basically a masterpiece of lucidity and intelligence, no matter what you throw at him. I am just glad these people exist.

There is already a fan patch that works almost flawlessly, a 60 fps patch could've been enabled a while ago.

Watching this video a few days after finally getting a PS5. I’m very very happy to experience new and improved hops in consoles. What I mean is just the tottal difference between the last gen and now. The 7th and 8th generation of consoles I look at like generation 5 and 6. Improved for a more control and the idea and development of complexity. This generation (I’ll even say for both teams) is a huge step in a new wave of gaming.

I feel extremely ignorante in only getting to know Mark Cerny just now, him speaking about all of the features and games let's you now he isn't reading off some marketing sheet, he has been involved 100% in all of these features he is talking about
His voice is so soothing, plus he explains all of this so well.
There’s something about his voice that I wish he could read all audio books and do every breakdown video I want to listen to.
