Literally, in episode 4 I felt Mio's sadness and I liked it more. Really, Mio Shin is beautiful....
Season 5 is the most depressing of all
This show starts with mostly comedy + romance with a fair amount of action and then Season 3 brings in a massive plot twist I'd never expect from a show like this only for Season 4 & 5 to out do it in terms of the plot twists/reveals, for something that starts as light as it does in Season 1 it gets extremely intense in action and story
Also in addition to the original light novels there are 3 Visual Novel spin-offs (Each around 20-30 hours long and in a bundle under "Rio Reincarnation" on PC and PlayStation) and a fourth coming out in english sometime this year
Ok.. You sold me to start watching the anime.. The only i know so far is kurumi and the best opening 1 to 4
Its one of the few harem animes I enjoy overall, its got more depth than most harem animes which compared to like 90% isnt saying much but its still really good.
The first opening is so nostalgic to me personally, might pick up the LN at some stage.

This show is actually so good, on the outside its a harem anime (guy gets lots of girls) and it's a lot of pure comedy and chill vibes, but as the seasons go on there's more depth in the story and more mystery, like why the girls are appearing, who made them, even something like who decided that they should be shown "love", which even now in the anime no one knows why because of some things I won't spoil, but it's one of the funniest and cute animes I've watched, and has the best girl in anime Kurumi (the harley quin girl with the crazy look and eyes(

It's basically what the first opening says, girls from another come to earth and they must choose between killing them or trying to befriend them or make them like us, in this case the MC
And I forgot to mention, but the story has its mysteries too. Like, mysteries from the past and other things.
Date a Live is one of my favourite harem anime and it's really good give it a try❤.
The anime is crazy, it starts as comedy and love and the more it progresses, the more the story changes until it ends in tragedySimply the twists and turns it has had since season 3 surprised me
Surprising but timely Date a Live openings reaction. The fifth season is currently airing, and it is going to get wilder and wilder from now on. It's a good anime, that has both cute and funny moments, as well as fights and epic and crazy events, as well as a good amount of mystery and (honestly) unexpected twists. It's a show you should definitely not spoil to yourself, if you want to watch it.
I totally agree, at first I was very lazy to look at it because I thought it was going to be another harem, but the story made me change my mind.
Main character tries to make the girls fall for him, whereas there are other humans, villains trying to kill them. There's a lot more to it than just dates and stuff. Give it a watch.

I love Date Alive. It’s super funny, but season 4 and 5 are making it much more serious and impactful.
I love this series. The start is so nice and wholesome and then we get into the action around season 2 with some plot twists!

Yesterday I saw the last episode of season 5 that has come out so far and I have to say that Date a Live has become my favorite anime. Every season has such a good and interesting story as well as a lot of sad ones, I think. I can only recommend this anime and even though I think it will have a rather sad ending, I am excited to see what happens next.

My comment might be too late, but I thought It'd be nice to give more of a detailed explanation. The Anime is as they said in the 1st opening, about spirits that infiltrate the world either with bad or good intentions, and sometimes even accidentally. The main character with blue hair, Shidou has lost his memories of when he was younger and lives together with his supposed little sister Kotori (The girl with red hair and twintails). The story was not super deep until the latter half of season 3 where we got lots of information that we did not expect at all. Since then, the depth of the story has increased and we have now reached sort of a climax and are getting closer to the end of the story. As a harem, Date A Live isn't on the same level as let's say Highschool DXD or Quintessential Quintuplets. But to be honest I think it is better that way, Date A Live actually fits very well when focused more on the action and pure romance. If anyone is wondering whether they should give this Anime a chance, I definitely encourage you to do so if you know what you are getting into.

I like this series. It started as a comedy, but in the later seasons a mystery pops up. The fights are against both human and nonhuman. The later seasons made me want to watch more.

Since pretty much everyone else has explained the general flow and premise of the story I'll say this.
It's not going to be a show that everyone will like (it is a harem and can be quite fan-service-y), but one thing I'd say the story does VERY well is foreshadowing.
I started with the anime and the little mystery and its foreshadowing was what hooked me in, and the characters were lovable enough to keep enjoying the story as the mysteries were all slowly being revealed piece-by-piece.
Shocking moments and revelations happen but for the most part, it generally doesn't feel like something that was pulled out of nowhere for convenience. Like, the hints are there, noticeable enough to not be entirely forgotten but also no obvious enough to give the entire game away.
i really love this anime it's ( in my opinion the best and will be forever my favourite one ) it got 5 seasons now the 5th came out very recently i just can recommend watching it
As myself, a fellow DATE A LIVE follower i highly recommend you this show as the show has a mild and sometimes abv mild lore that is not found in any harem animes but in this. The show progress little slowly in start but after 1st season action starts to kick in. In 3rd season thriller starts and in 4th the start is somewhat romance and comedy but near the end the lore starts to reavel it's self & in 5th the lore is starting to get its finest as we all in DATE A LIVE fandom are abt to witness the episode this Wednesday that could / will change the vision of what people see of DATE A LIVE as it will be biggest game changer episode.

I don't know if you watch Dragon Ball Z and up so similar like how Goku need to save earth usually fighting but he did choose some saving like Piccolo and Vegeta now he is married. So in Date a Live is like this guy ordinary but has special power (he don't know until someone told him from one of the government task force) choose to save the Spirit girls (alien with special power just their presence alone can create earthquake or calamity weather) which is to date them or befriend them but most fall in love with him. The others government special task force with mech armor choose to kill them.
Date A Live is a show with a ton of evolution to its overarching story, and I’ve honestly loved every bit of it. Tore through the series in about five days recently cause there was just something about the first OP that made it seem more grandiose and high-stakes than it initially appeared. And man… It. Delivered. That’s all I gotta say.

I could explain what this anime is about (and I’m sure others have already), but honestly it needs to be seen to be believed. I watch it; I read the novels… and currently Kurumi is my favorite girl in anime.
A show that starts as a generic trashy harem anime, and then turns into a heavily plot-driven masterpiece. The lore behind it is litterally the Bible. This is technically, in spite of its massive fanservice, the most Christian anime.

The only way to defeat them is to fight or show them love. The nber of girls keeps climbing so, of course when they appear they're not allies. So it starts with the approach. Do we fight, do we defend, do we meet them halfway or do we find them and calm their restless hearts?
Add humans to the mix. Being gs driven by love, empathy, lust, greed, hatred, vengeance, spite. How do we approach that?

If I'm not mistaken, season 5 is the finale and the thing EVERYTHING has been leading up to from the beginning. There is foreshadowing for endgame stuff from as early as episode 1. This series really knows how to pay off everything that it builds up.

The story is well written, in the beginning it seems like generic harem anime but with every season the plot is gradually revealed

Come on, dude. Other worldly creatures obviously super powerful, showing up on earth. Of course, it's gonna be earthlings, and other Spirits, that's trying to kill them because they're afraid of them, or in rivalry. Of course there's also gonna be other humans who accept them and take them in out of love.
Now, I have NOT really enjoyed comedies for some years now, however, the overall story of Date A Live moves me to the point of getting a little emotional just typing out this comment. If you like sci-fi, romance, a good bit of ecchi comedy, and violence, I HIGHLY recommend watching this anime.

Iike most content creators hes missing one Opening from Date-A-Bullet which is the best one. You can tell how much these people know about animes when they do this. Its kinda like those who look up To-Love-Ru and only get a few op or eds and they dont realize second season starts with motto or other shows missing the best.
