I think the playlist you watched has the OPs in chronological order of the story, instead of release date. Index is the actual main show, it's about science/esp versus religion/magic. Railgun is a spinoff about the electric girl with the coin, a popular side character from index. And Accelerator is a spinoff about the guy with the earpiece and crutch, a popular villain turned anti-hero from index (hence the more gruesome imagery in that OP). Hope that clears it up a little haha.

Long story short with no spoilers, there are 3 separate but related "A Certain" (aka Toaru) series - Magical Index, Scientific Railgun, and Scientific Accelerator. You'll see a lot of familiar characters cross over between them, but each series focuses primarily on a different character or group.

Toaru majutsu no index is a light novel series that (together with ALL of its spin-offs like Railgun, Accelerator and others that have yet to receive an anime adaption) are sometimes seen as the anime equivalent of the MCU. Each character is their own main character and there are events where the protagonists of each series meet up.
Index generally follows the story of the normal highschool boy that you can find anywhere, Kamijou Touma and his involvement with both the Science side and Magic side. The preview of each episode sums it up well, when magic and science collide, a story is born.
Toaru kagaku no railgun is a manga spin-off of Index which focuses on Misaka Mikoto, the #3 level 5 esper of Academy City. She has the power to control electricity and her signature move, the railgun is used by firing a magnetic object (usually the arcade coin) with Lorenz force. The anime adaption added quite a bit of filler into seasons 1 and 2 and even introduced characters way earlier than the manga intended. Also because of the manga, a minor scene in Index was retconned but it doesn't hurt the narrative at all.
Toaru kagaku no Accelerator is a manga spin-off of Index which focuses on #1 Level 5 esper of Academy City, Accelerator. Generally regarded as the worst spin-off due to not expanding on their character and instead introduced inconsistencies to the plot. The anime improved on the manga but IMO it isn't worth reading after where the anime stops.
It is the only series I've read that manages to incorporate both science and magic well. The author Kazuma Kamachi goes into in depth research to make sure that both power systems are well defined and operated.
Esper powers are either natural (Gemstones) or artificially obtained through the experimentation of Academy City and they operate on quantum physics and Schrodinger's cat. Note, the science side is not only made of espers, but the technology of Academy City which is 20-30 years ahead of the rest of the world.
The magic side is run by multiple organisations called cabals, each with their own agenda. Magic is used through Idol Theory, where making a miniature replica of a thing in religion, myths, fairy tales, etc and knowing the ritual allows you to draw a fraction of power from the legend. An example would be a cross, a cross is where the son of God was crucified and as such if you know the proper procedure, you can draw some power from that. The closer your object is to the actual, the stronger the effects.
I tried to sum up as much as possible without any spoilers, I hope you enjoy it. If you are interested, the Index anime is a bad adaptation of the light novels which is heavily recommended instead.
    Personally I recommend the release order of the anime, Index 1 > Railgun 1 > index 2 > Railgun 2 > Accelerator > Index 3 > Railgun 3

    @zeehero7280 3 місяці тому +1

Misaka mikoto can magnet herself onto a building if she needs to break a fall. not to mention her friend Kuroko who can just teleport her.
Accelerator (White haired boy) is the most powerful of all of them by a very wide margin. his power is Vector manipulation. if you know what a vector is, think about what that means.
He can alter any vector he touches. this means the force of an attack means nothing to him.

Without spoiling, the main premise of the story is Science versus Magic.
The source material is a trilogy of novels. The first two are completed while the third one is on-going.
So far the anime adaptations have covered only the first one.
Yes anime-only, all these seasons and it was only from the first novel.
Now to explain further, think of the story being told by different perspectives:
    - To Aru Majutsu no Index (First season aired in 2008).
It is shown by the spikey haired boy, Touma.
    - To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (First season aired in 2009).
It is shown by the coin tossing girl, Misaka.
    - To Aru Kagaku no Accelerator (Only one season of this one that aired in 2019).
It is shown by the white haired boy with the collar, Accelerator.
The playlist shows how the events played in chronological order in the series.
Although, it is recommended to check them in airing order the decision is always yours.
Btw, the main protagonist in the novel is (most of the times) Touma.
There have been volumes where Touma is on the sidelines or not present at all but that is the appeal of the series. Even without him present, the story moves along.

To aru (translated as 'A Certain') is an interesting series. There's 3 different anime series (Index, Railgun, Accelerator) and they're all happening in the same world, mostly the same city even. Index is the main series while Railgun and Accelerator follows popular side characters from Index. The order you've been given is the kind of order each part of the series falls on the timeline (though there's a lot of overlap it's just happening in different places, and Railgun T OP2 is in the wrong place)
The main premise is that there's a whole hyper advanced city that can give kids powers based on science, except there's also a magic power system that's unknown to the wide world. The main series Index focuses on the clashes that these 2 different systems and groups create when they overlap. Railgun is kind of a slice of life with sudden dips into the darker sides of the scientific city they live in. Accelerator follows somebody who's very deep into said darker sides. There's a lot of concepts, characters, and sometimes events the crossover and affect each other.
It's definitely something pretty unique from an anime perspective in that sense. its the same setting, but your getting a lot of different perspectives and tones of that setting and its why it feels like to you that there's so many different elements and people popping up in the openings with no clear connection.
And that's just the parts that are animated lol. The Index anime is incredibly far behind from its source, like ~30 LN volumes behind. And then there's currently unanimated series like Mental Out, ITEM, Dark Matter, and Astral Buddy. It's a really huge and old series haha. Still, it's incredibly sad how much the Index main series got shafted as it got adapted into anime.
Oh right, Imaginery Festival is the mobile gacha game that actually covers almost EVERYTHING from the series and then adds even more. It's pretty wild how much story it has, sadly its only released in Japanese.

Some confused part can explain by one keyword: cloning.
The coin girl aka railgun is one of the seven lv5(Known as some strongest in sience side), and the crazy white-hair with collar is the strongest lv5, aka Accelerator.
So here comes the dark part, some craziest scientist came up a plan to make him level up to lv6, by killed coin girl seven times. That was impossible, so they decided to cloning the railgun 20,000+ times. These cloning aka Sisters are not strong as the origin(about lv2~3), but they got number to be killed. Till the railgun series started, the Accelerator had killed over 10000+, almost one or two sisters per days. In Index series, Accelerator was stopped by Touma(Main Charactor), the plan was banished. This event officially start the conncetion between Index and Railgun storys, although railgun had knew Touma even before that.
After that, Accelerator met the No.20,001 cloning, the little girl known as the Last Order, started a family relationship with her.Later he was shot on head while try to save Last Order, the bullet not took his life but destroyed his calculate ability to live normally or using power, here he started to use the collar to borrow sister's thoughts internet( every sisters connect each with brain waves, shared the thinking and memories, the Last Order were like command tower ) to live, even using power(12:38 the redlight means he take back power till collar ran out battery).

Obviously all series are in the same universe. Railgun starts earlier on the timeline than Index, but once Railgun catches up to Index they both cover a lot of the same story, just from different character perspectives. Accelerator is a bit different. The protag of Accelerator is a main supporting character in both Index and Accelerator, but his series tells different stories, even if they feature a lot of characters from the other series.
Then there's actually a fourth series in this universe called "Mental Out", which features yet another one of the supporting characters in both Index and Accelerator. She's a bit of a rival/antagonist in Railgun, but is a friend of the protagonist of Index. I anticipate within the next few years that too will get an anime series.

Toaru in japanese roughly translated to "a certain" in the series title and is the catch-all term for the series, being Toaru (Majutsu no Index/Kagaku Accelerator/Kagaku no Railgun):
A Certain Magical Index - The main story/plot thread of the series, focuses on the magic/scientific side of the world and their conflicts. The main charact is Kamijou Touma (generic looking spiky black hair guy) and Index (the white/blue haired nun girl). Touma is a "Level 0", the weakest of the weak. Index is a living library of magical knowledge.
A Certain Scientific Accelerator - The part of the story focusing on the "Accelerator", a "Level 5" and the "strongest of the strong" in the city. It's grittier, edgier, and generally darker.
A Certain Scientific Railgun - The part of the story that focuses more on the more mundane life and side-stories around Misaka Mikoto AKA the Railgun, another Level 5 in this city and her close circle of friends. Touma regularly makes appearances in the story as a kind of sort of will they/wont they romantic interest to Misaka and as the prime mover of the main series.

Both 'A Certain Scientific Railgun' and 'A Certain Scientific Accelerator' are spin-off series from the main series 'A Certain Magical Index' which has 3 seasons.
The series as a whole is a mix of Science and Technology vs Religion and Magic. It's a very interesting fusion. Within each of these groups there are multiple factions and they don't necessarily agree with one another which is where you see the fighting take place between them. Toaru anime series for now is focused on 3 series
Toaru Majutsu no Index / A Certain Magical Index
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun / A Certain Scientific Railgun
Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator / A Certain Scientific Accelerator
My guess is why the opening plays in that is because it was arranged in chronological order since they happen at the same place but different time or same time at different places or sometimes in some arc they do even come together since these 3 anime series focused on different main characters.
Most of the series start taking place in an academy city that focuses on its advanced science and technology where they develop a society where many people develop scientific phenomena manipulating power where they are called esper and they are categorized from lvl 1 to highest in the anime series right now is lvl 5. Railgun focusing on the esper side
Meanwhile Index focused on the opposite force of science such as magic, wizardry, religion, divinity and such
More than these i would be spoiling the story but it's a very fun anime to watch. Do understand this is my way of explaining the Toaru series as an anime only watcher and be easy on me light novel reader😅

about to aru series, they are from the same universe and in that world they have two major power that is magic and science (esper). at the begining they mainly lived in academy city in this case in science side. for simple index is the main series that include all, more focus in magic side. railgun is about the bright side of academy city but slowly touching the dark side. and accelerator is about his redemption arc and his focus more into the city dark side.

Toaru Majutsu no Index is the main series, Railgun and Accelerator are one of its Spin-offs that got anime. But the most curious thing is that all the spin-offs are connected to the main story, as they take place in the same universe, in the same timeline but with different perspectives that generate different stories.
Its basic premise is Science vs Magic. The story takes place within a city called Academy City, a city that is 30 years advanced compared to the rest of the world. This city creates Espers based on scientific experiments. The way they classify Espers is by levels that goes from 0 to 5 . With 0 being the "weakest" and 5 being the strongest .
Well, in Toaru Majutsu no Index we have Kamijou Touma as the protagonist (the boy with the spiky black hair). A level 0 who lives in Academy City and has a mysterious "power" capable of nullifying anything supernatural. One day he meets a nun named Index who claims to be a mage and that she carried 103,000 magical grimoires in her mind. And that's when Science and Magic intersect, the story begins.
In Railgun we have Misaka Mikoto (the girl with brown hair) as the protagonist. one of the 7 Level 5's witnessing the dark side of academy city.
And in Accelerator we have Accelerator as the protagonist (the boy with white hair) the strongest level 5 in the academy city that belongs to the Dark side.

The To aru Universe is string chart the anime. As of right now there are 159 episodes across the 2 spinoffs and main series To aru Majustu no Index (a certain magical index) and in their time all of those episodes cover 3 months of events in their universe from different angles with only 1 major plot hole to speak of ( will not discus what that is here due to major early series spoilers). As long as you're good at keeping up with a lot of moving parts to a story it's a great series to watch. Unfortunately even the watch order is a debate in the community with 3 camps: release order, chronological simple, and true chronological. personally I would recommend #2 (Railgun, Railgun S, Index, Railgun T/index 2, Acel, Index 3)

The To Aru Franchise or A Certain Franchise is a multi-anime cinematic universe with the 3 main characters having their own anime series that lightly interweave into each other. For a total 6 and half seasons plus a movie.
Best described as Anime: The Anime. For better or worse, every trope known to anime is at full force here and it often plays with them pretty well.
From a city of Super advanced technology populated by pyschic powered X-Men, and secret organizations of ancient magic sorcerers, political conspiracies, human experimentation, fun slice of life antics, mechs, SWAT Teams, and battle nuns!
The A Certain Magical and Scientific Animes are filled with action, comedy, and fan service and are overall are just whole a lot of fun.
The franchise also has multiple different series of light novels and Mangas that all starting as far back back in 2004 with first anime season releasing in 2008.

put simply the to aru series is consisted of a certain magical index, a certain scientific railgun and a certain scientific accelerator (The goat) the scientific ones are spin offs of the magical one which is the main thing. in that world there is two different power scales one dealing with espers which is scientifically made magicians basically and then theres religion which has magic and it can be basically anything because its based off of different religions. For example there's a dude that's Aztecan and uses an obsidian knife like they used to perform sacrifices. Academy city is the main area the anime takes place and that's where all the espers are and they have levels based off of strength with level 5 being nigh unimaginable strength to everyone below and level 0 being virtually no powers at all. the main character (the guy with spiky black hair) is deemed a level 0 and he's also extremely unlucky for reasons that are episode 1 spoilers. this anime is one of my favorites and although i haven't read them myself I've seen some of the things from the light novel and it gets GOOD so if you have free time i recommend it

Basically our typical world, involving sects that use magic, and scientific city (where most story is oriented) where smart schoolkids are mentally unstabilized to produce high-power espers with single ability. Toaru series has nothing as set 1 main character. You could say probably black hair guy is most involved in other people mess, but there is several plotlines of different sides working at once and meeting at certaion points. Also some people switch sides etc, so its kinda difficult to keep track on what is going on at start.

Gaz, the To Aru series contains 3 separate stories happening in the same futuristic city at the same time. The characters of all 3 series interact constantly and are definitely connected to each other. It's got action, suspense, slice of life, superhero style-stuff and a heckuvalot more. The 3 series are ...
A Certain Scientific Railgun - which revolves around the young girls (the one with the coin is the MC) you saw in the first video.
A Certain Magical Index - which revolves around the black-haired boy, the little nun and their crew.
A Certain Scientific Accelerator - which revolves around the white-haired boy (a series favorite of many) and his cast of characters I won't tell you about because they're a definite storyline spoiler.
It's a fantastic shared universe and highly recommended.

The black haired boy is the original main character of the "universe" and his whole thing is his right hand nullifies anything supernatural magic or psychic based. Sadly it also nullifies his luck. He is considered a level 0 psychic but he deals with magic stuff mostly. The Brown hair electric girl is the second MC and recurring character in the original story. Also the biggest Tsundere. She is the 3rd strongest psychic in the city. The last major MC is the white haired black shirted (later white shirted) boy which was an antagonist to the first two in an earlier arc. While the other two are "good guys" hes the one that walks the line at best. He, when at full power, is the strongest psychic in the city

The Toaru franchise is split into three seperate series that all take place around the same time. A Certain Magical Index, A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Scientific Accelerator. All take place in the fictional setting Academy City, modern day Japan.
    INDEX
"A Certain Magical Index" is the main storyline with Touma Kamijou, (spiky black hair boy) a Level 0 esper as the protagonist. He is considered the weakest of the weakest in the esper rankings. But he possesses Imagine Breaker, a strange phenomenon he's had since birth. Anything supernatural that comes into contact with his right hand will be negated. This is the reason for why the openings of Index seem to have shots that focus on his right hand.
Toaru is set in Academy City, the city of science where students develop psychic esper powers through medication and experimentations. When Touma meets Index, (the young silver hair nun in white robes) he learns she is a part of a magical organization in Europe and quickly finds himself in a massive world scale power struggle between science and magic.
The magic side is made up of the many different churches and other occult organizations around of the world.
Academy City, said to be 30 years scientifically advanced ahead of the rest of the modern world, is practically the face of the world of science.
    RAILGUN
"A Certain Scientific Railgun" is a spin off side series with Mikoto Misaka, (short brown hair girl with the coin) a Level 5 esper with the ability to control electricity, as the protagonist. Its kinda a slice of life, sci-fi thriller series where Misaka and her group of friends often get mixed up in the seedy underground shenanigans of the city.
With Index being the main story centred around the massive world scale conflict of magic vs science, Railgun is smaller and focused on the inner-city conflicts of the science side.
    ACCELERATOR
"A Certain Scientific Accelerator" is another side story centred around Accelerator (the white hair skinny boy), the first ranked Level 5 esper. Level 5 is the highest level in the esper ranking.. so he pretty much is ranked highly as the strongest esper in the city. He has the ability to transform and manipulate the vectors of anything he touches. Meaning he can practically control the direction and magnitude of anything he comes into contact with. That is fcking OP.
All three protagonists make small appearances in each other's series. But Misaka and Accelerator, aside from being the protagonists in their own series.. are also important main characters in Index.

Railgun is told from the perspective of Misaka, the girl with the lightning powers and it is rooted in the science fiction aspect of the world
Index is told from the perspective of Touma, the black haired boy, which is more about the magic aspect of the world.
And Accellerator, told from the white haired psychotic looking guy.
Edit: the openings are in order of the chronological timeline of the show. You were confused at one point because it was Season 2 opening 1, not season 1 opening 1. Yes it gets confusing at times but it's soooo worth it.

"Toaru" roughly translates as "A Certain"
The various branches of the series share this start to their names; A Certain (Magical Index/Scientific Railgun/Scientific Accelerator).
They very much DO have powers, and from multiple different sources/systems. Index was the first, in it you encounter various characters, the other series are told from the point of view of those secondary characters. They take VERY different angles and tones in their approach to the same world. Railgun is fairly light hearted, Index moves between light hearted humor and some pretty serious topics, and Accelerator is pretty heavy. All 3 do both serious and comedy, but while Accelerator stacks bodies with casual disdain, the other two are much more reserved and treat death as a serious event.

The openings are fixed in terms of timeline wise with the exception of Imaginary Fest since iirc it's from the game of the series. So, as for the series, people already mentioned how it is separated into three stories following the three main characters of the series. As for the Toaru series itself, Index is the main story following the spiky-haired fella named Kamijou Touma. His name is a word play in Japanese meaning One Above God (Kami = God; Jou = Above), just a fun FYI right there. So yeah, Index is the main storyline and the other ones are made to follow some fan favourites in a spin-off focusing on the Science side of the story when Touma is not in Academy City because most of the time, he's out there in the world dealing with the Magic side of the story - don't worry about it. These openings are under the Old Testament of the story which is mainly for world-building purposes and I am hoping for the New Testament to be adapted soon but unlike how the studio butchered season 3 by piling 9 volumes of light novel into 23 episodes which is not good pacing-wise. So basically, that's the series and another fun fact is that Kamijou Touma won 3 best MC in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi which is a yearly award for Light Novels in Japan and A Certain Magical Index is inducted into the Hall of Fame last 2020 and currently in its entirety, A Certain Magical Index have 53 volumes with just the main story and not including the spin-offs it has.

First of all, I have to say that I loved the video. ToAru Series is by far my favorite serialization. So much so that I am part of the team that helps translate the books (yes, books, not manga) into Portuguese.
That said, let me offer some no-spoiler explanations.
ToAru Series is originally a serialization of Light Novels i.e. books. The original title is the "ToAru Majutsu no Index" (A Certain Magical Index).
In his universe, there is magic and supernatural powers of scientific origin and, in each volume of the book, new conflicts and problems for the protagonists are presented.
With the success of the books and subsequent manga adaptation, side shows also came.
The first one is "ToAru Kagaku no Railgun" (A Certain Scientific Railgun), which is the one from the girls at the beginning of the video.
It's the same universe, but focused on the point of view of other important characters in the main one, in particular, the coin girl. It takes place at the same time, but with its own problems (some in common with the main series), and focusing mainly on the scientific side of this universe.
With the growing success of the original series and its first side show, they decided to launch their own side show for another important character, who figures more on the antihero side. ToAru Kagaku no Accelerator (A Certain Scientific Accelerator).
This was a roller coaster of events, with ups and downs, but it ended up not turning out as well as the previous two. And mixes the scientific and magical side of the universe a little.
As they all happen simultaneously, even putting things in chronology is a bit complicated, because, strictly speaking, it would be necessary to stop in the middle of the season of one, go to another, and so on.
But to make it as chronologically accurate as possible, respecting the duration of each season, I think the most coherent would be something like:
    1. ToAru Kagaku no Railgun 1 (24 episodes)
    2. ToAru Majutsu no Index 1 (24 episodes)
    3. ToAru Kagaku no Railgun 2 (24 episodes)
    4. ToAru Kagaku no Accelerator (12 episodes)
4.5 Honorable mention for movie: ToAru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki (A Certain Magical Index: The Miracle of Endymion)*
    5. ToAru Majutsu no Index 2 (24 episodes)
    6. ToAru Kagaku no Railgun 3 (24 episodes)
    7. ToAru Majutsu no Index 3 (24 episodes)
*The most correct thing would be for the movie to take place in the middle of the ToAru Majutsu no Index 2, but to avoid interruptions in the middle of the season, I thought it best to place it earlier.
Having said all that, if you want the events to be as chronological as possible, according to Light Novel, the order in which the openings were watched would be ideal.

  • @kallistikaleid
    @kallistikaleid Рік тому

With things like this, I would look up the "watch order" and compare that to the playlist you find, just so you know you have the right content. This playlist looks like a "chronological order" playlist, which is 100% for me, as I watched it like that, for the most dramatic, emotional effect. The Railgun/Index/Accelerator anime universe is all so intertwined, I made SURE of the chronological order of watching, and then watched all three together.
If you wanna have a long form set of content for your channel, the Toaru Continuum is a pretty wonderful one to react to. It is beloved, it is SUPER interesting, it ain't too....vivid, like some anime, there is a LOT of lighthearted, fun scenarios and a good amount of serious af, life-and-death stakes, while the world around the characters does atually change with their actions. There is some death, but not too much trauma. As you saw, the OST is insane.
Watch it, online or offline, and see for yourself. You WILL care a lot for most of these characters, maybe even a murderer or two.

It is a fairly confusing series coming in from knowing nothing. Like it's all the same universe that the shows happen in but there are three different shows, each telling a different story at a different time and sometimes they connect up as events that happen in one have happened in the others. So it's more of a matter of watching them in a specific order to make the most sense or watching them in release order and having moments of realisation to things happening.
It's a good series, it's just hard to recommend to people because of how big it is with how many different shows you'd have to get someone to commit to watching now. Like three shows, each with 1-3 seasons with more to come and a movie on top.

Day Toaru's manga was published by Dengeki of asking for the Tsukihime/Melty Blood openings

A few years back the UA-cam channel Gigguk did a good non-spoiler explainer video, “The Fascinating World of Index/Railgun”, it is definitely worth a watch and worth reacting to.

If you really want to know about this series, because it is very interesting, I would highly recommend Gigguk’s video on the Index series.

The Index series is the main storyline, railgun and accelerator are series base on what the main side characters are doing when not together with the MC on the main series
