Well duh... its a bit hard to study pregnancy when medical researchers insist on studying men instead of women 😂
"over the span of a decade, there were about 15000 research papers with references to semen… and about 400 papers referencing menstrual blood.
[…]the simplest explanation for this seems to be that, historically, a lot of scientists were men, and they simply didn't want to investigate menstrual blood… because it was considered gross"
Quote from Unexplainable : The Bleeding Edge 24.03.13
About biologist Jemma Evans attempts to study the healing powers of menstrual fluid but there's no funding in it.
Excellent point
Only true in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.
@danadickson1 if only. Its actually a global issue
Women, 51 percent of the population, so let's never study them. That's science!
Wow! Now i understand why Colbert’s monologue is always stellar. These are some naturally funny and smart writers.
IKR? She was comfortable & having fun. A natural. Enjoyed her completely.
She needs to come back and do two more segments like this: one just before she goes on leave and two after the baby is born. She’s hilarious.
Yes! The “It’s for the baby” at the end had me in stitches.
Stephen Colbert has found his Sona and Andy Richter in one person
If he gives her everything she wants she'd have to give everybody one.
She is so NOT funny...... and her play acting is worse than kindergarten performance level. Not again.....
How delightful is she!?
I love it when Seth has his writers on, so I hope that Stephen gets a chance to do it more.
Ok hear me out: weekly bits with the writers! They all deserve the spotlight, BRING THEM OUT!!! Even Brian! 🤣🤣
I really loved this segment! She was so funny! Colbert treats his Staff, and the Band with Respect! I would like for our Country to have a President like him!😊😊😊😊
In the US we have a President Biden who does treat the people with respect.
Yes I hope we continue to have a President like him!
Yeah, Biden is generally a respectful guy, he used to get kinda handsy though...
Stephen did run for President once. It was fantastic.
That handy bit was a Republican talking point they still try to use. If it's ugly, it's Republican. But power is addictive so we have to continue to monitor & communicate with the Dems WHEN we take the House, Senate & Whitehouse.
IT'S AMAZING to me how the US STILL doesn't guarantee 12 months of paid parental leave.
That's just absolutely BONKERS to me.
As a small business owner, I can’t imagine paying an employee a year’s salary NOT TO WORK FOR THE BUSINESS! Clearly it would need to be funded by the government through taxes. I’d rather have UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE! I Can’t Afford Health Insurance. Arizona, Healthcare.gov, $10,000 deductible, $1200/month EACH for me and my husband! That’s a Big HOUSE PAYMENT.
Exactly what I thought.
Treating workers like human beings is un-American
@@ChineduOpara
that made me chuckle;)lol
I’m a father of two, I was also a business manager for 30 years, food and retail. The financial burden of paid maternity leave could bankrupt many small businesses.
Neither is it fair to put the burden of paid leave La of all kinds on the backs of tax payers.
Yes of course big businesses and the wealthy can afford and probably should be paying more in taxes, but who’s going to decide the who and what that should be. Certainly the current congress, both parties aren’t in a big hurry to slit their own financial throat’s!!
It’s up to voters to send the message you’ve had enough, which means voting ALL INCUMBENTS out of office, both parties!! And do it every cycle till things in congress change!!
Well if we'd stop being so damn sexist & misogynistic maybe we would've done more research on FEMALES & PREGNANT WOMEN 😒🙄🤬😤
Pregnancy historical trivia: Henry VIII first decided that women used stirrups during gyno exams and lay on their backs for delivery of child, instead of squatting and using a more normal position. Another reason we don’t need kings interfering in a woman’s health care.
Indeed! Control your own body & quit grasping for ours! (Or grabbing ...
Omg! I am about to go down a historical rabbit hole
Hate to be the "ack-tually" guy, but…. _Actually_ , at least according to some stories, it was Louis XIV.
Scholarly article: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10351960/ ; Popular news article: metro.co.uk/2020/12/04/why-do-women-give-birth-on-their-backs-13640176/
In any case, a prone position is probably worse, and mainly for the benefit of (particularly male) doctors to see what's going on, especially if they may not know the anatomy as well as the actual pregnant woman….
@@pmclaughlin4111during your historic rabbit hole did you also happen to read about how the chainsaw was originally invented as a medical tool used in childbirth to saw through a woman’s pelvis?🤢🤢
Didn’t he have some sort of fetish? I remember reading about that
Give her a $3500 Apple gift card and 20 months off! Good luck with your pregnancy, delivery and motherhood!
1000 % 🤣🤣🤣
Make that a more generic gift card, and I'm I completely agree 😂❤
Absolutely!
Writer was fantastic! I had carpal tunnel with my first pregnancy but I hadnt heard it was normal ~ so not only was segment delightfully fun, it was helpful. Please have her back? She's a natural.
I had carpal tunnel with my last baby.
She's a natural alright... at giving birth naturally 😅👍🏽
I so love the natural connection between women like what occurred here, thank you for writing & hello Sister-Friends!
laughing in europe where you can get 2 years PAID parental leave
Not everywhere

@@narr482 ah sorry I meant EU 🙃
16 weeks in Switzerland
18 months in Canada. Should be 2 years though!!
Nice of you to feel superior over pregnant women in the US
Just give her the cash, man!!!! Support pregnant women!
The level of talent on his staff is incredible! Carley is a star…she’s gonna do big things!
The average GOP Representative knows as much about pregnancy as the character she plays.
She's a comedy writer doing a comedy sketch. Unless you know her personally you have no idea what she knows about pregnancy. This is a TV show, not real life.
@@SingleTrackMined Republicans would rather watch a pregnant woman die in childbirth than provide essential care

Im not sure whats better, the "if you're doing it right" or the confused look after when Stephen's contemplating what that even means.
Carly is a rock star.
Congratulations to Carly. Wishes for an easy delivery of a healthy baby are already on the way to you, young'un. (BTW---well done on your delivery of this bit. Brilliantly accomplished.)
Congratulation on your pregnancy, I hope you have a safe delivery and a baby that sleeps through the night, 😊
Oh I can hear soooo many of Stephen’s jokes from right outta her soul 😂😂😂😂 she’s fantastic ! You are blessed to have such great writers .. give her the apple gift card Steve 😂 and loads of congrats her way 🎉on the new baby 🩷💙
Cough it up Steven! She’s got to be a great writer! And Mom!
Great segment! I'm never going to be pregnant, but because I have friends who've been pregnant, and I listen to women, I know that it's important to have them on TV. It's alienating to be in a group that is never shown on screen. Also some people get really freaked out by it, and they need some exposure therapy so they don't lose their delicate minds.
Talking about "be the change for the baby", my biggest change was my feet grew 2 sizes! I had to give away all my shoes to my sister in law! 😝👟👟👠👠👡👡
At the end, it was all worth it.
Just last Thursday I became a Grandma for the first time. My youngest son and his wife gave me a beautiful little granddaughter, named Ariya Rae. 👶🏼 🌻💞
Even after I got my belly back, my hips were spread four inches. But she rocks socks and always has,
hahahaa CARLEY IS THE BEST! BRING BACK CARLEY!!
' It's so beautiful ' ❤️❤️🤣🤣
Carly, you do not need to pander to the audience. You pander that little bun or buns coming soon.
Congrats.
Of course doctors consider pregnancy a big mystery given they basically only learn about men's health and anatomy. Women have always sat in the back when it comes to science and medicine (way to show Mom how much you appreciate her, guys!). But, I'm being unduly critical when you take into consideration how these schmucks didn't know babies under 1yo feel pain until 1999. Hang in there ladies. Your time will come.
Most obstetricians don’t even really know the actual physiology of childbirth! They know and view it as a pathology, so they know how to manage and medicalize it. But most don’t even truly know how the female pelvis works! Or labor, for that matter. Mainstream obstetrics is NOT conducive to a smooth, efficient birth process. And that can be 100% attributed to the knowledge that obstetric “professionals” have of childbirth.
Wow, she was fantastic! I would love for her to come back and do another segment sometime.
Support Women’s Rights!
She is going to be an amazing mom!!
Congratulations Carly, and and best wishes for your future.
damn... this surprised me... how can so much still be unknown about this? hmm... you think this would be the case if men would get pregnant?
Exactly. I'm so fng SICK of it.
@@victoriabaker4400why are men responsible for figuring this out? If you are a woman, you figure it out. Aren't you a strong capable woman?
@@mortenbork6249You clearly know next to nothing about how the medical business started and who made it criminal for women to be midwives. They were accused of being witches when women helped others through birth and illness instead of calling on a doctor. Now guess the sex of the doctors...
Actually it’s because doing research on pregnant women is unethical if in involves any kind of risk. You can ask what pregnant women did and try to determine causes and correlation, but you can’t say “take this medicine when pregnant and see what it does”. Thalidomide was a huge eye opener for doctors and pregnant people- things like that had horrible consequences.
@@mortenbork6249 No one suggested men were responsible for doing the actual research. Historically research into women's health issues has not been as well-funded as men's has.
There's also must and can't pee, because the baby is jumping on the bladder.
lol she’s awesome, more of her please!
Even his WRITERS are good performers! lol Love it
She should be the guest host when he's away. I like her!
Carley is to Stephen as Sona is to Conan
Wow! She's great! Relaxed.
Wow Carley is a natural on camera!
OMG - your writer is hilarious!
John, congratulations on the album!! Imma go check it out!!
Canada now has 18 month mat leaves for people who would like to extend it from 12 months to 18 months. It's shocking how little time new parents get with their newborn in the states.
Bring Carley back!! Show her the money or at least the Vision Pro, Colbert!
Congratulations.. brilliant Jon!
She’s a natural in front of the lens! Have her back!
The appeal to the audience 😆 classic
Is there any audience? We never saw the audience....according to Neil Sean, British journalist, there is no LIVE AUDIENCE. I don´t know? Thanks for bringing it up!
Idk if I was a writer for the Late Show I’d probably want to go back to work as soon as possible
Legendary Louis Fouché also playing in the band of the maestro of Afro Latin Jazz Eddie Palmieri! I have seen them play several times and it's a transcendent experience! ❤️ Do yourself a favour and go see them.
Be the change, Steve!
don't put pregnancy and gaping holes together 😂
How do you think the whole process starts?! 😂😂
@@Shadoweclipse1386starts and ends with a hole 😂
Great segment!
Fun segment!
Loved it.
Too bad you aren’t in Canada where maternity leave is . . . 18 months. Not kidding.
If my pregnant wife were to watch this and start gaslighting me this effectively, my life would cease to exist.
They may not give her all those crazy gifts, but they might pay her extra for being a guest on the show.
“poop” 🤣😜😂🫶🏻🖖🏼🤗
Good luck Carly. ❤️❤️❤️
"for da baby" -- :)
The writers usually make for better guests.
We don’t know much about pregnancy, do we? Or about women at all. I know!
Good morning stephen colbert fans
I bought a minivan when I was pregnant hated that car
She's good! She deserves 20 months maternity leave
Kamala never disappoints us

Carly is beautiful
So that's what In Utero was really about 🤔
Why hasn't the monologue been downloaded first? Whete is it?
Did it last night
Maybe Neil deGrasse Tyson should talk about his opinions on this.
"A pregnant human?"
Also known as a woman...
Here is a little fun fact for the pregnant ladies out there, pregnancy can cause hair loss. Not making that up. So that not a bundle of joy, it is a bundle of hair!
I ‘gave’ all my curls to my daughter (26 now), who has beautiful, thick, long curly hair, leaving me with short, straight hair ever since my pregnancy! (And yes: before I got pregnant I DID have a lot of curls in my hair!!)
NEVER CAME BACK!
I lost SO much hair 3 months after my daughter was born. She is 19 months old now and my hair has all grown back around the crown. It is now like 3 inches long and I look insane
Check out the book Eve by Cat Bohannon on the evolution of the female body
What happened to the monologue video?? I was watching it when it vanished!!
He didn't seem happy at all about this
I hate pregnancy, and think it's an abhorrent and gross disease, but this was funny.
Well...pregnancy still makes women cuter!
Hiiiiii aaaaaaall ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This wholesome, educational segement is indicative of why you rank third behind Seth and Yimmie ...
Sorry to be so pedantic but it's not yet a baby.
Hopefully, someday it will be a healthy baby. Until then, it's a fetus.
¡Embarazada!
Trans-men get all the same symptoms too! So strange.
Almost as if it had something to do with the uterus... But that's much too confusing for people who think that a woman who is tall or has short hair must be a man, and who have to ask strangers every day what a woman is. 🙄
Stephen is it a bad time to talk food like bouillabaisse cookies or crab jelly how about dryed aged dog collar cut tuna that has bacon belly, ribs and prime rib all connected and is cold hickory smoked threw hickory nut oil into dry ager and dry rubbed so dont waste any meat /// would corn beer and corn whiskey to much with a big bowl of hashish 🌽🍺🌽🥃🥩 well didnt want to use the epidural to quickly, well berries just bring the fruit bats around
Not funny
Carli M. should stick to her day job (writing): so not funny, and a terrible actor.....
is she actually pregnant
Probably no. And what was the purpose of this segment?
Are you all running out of ideas, or what? What’s going on, the best you come up with is a pregnant staff worker shaking Stephen down for extras, or are you all too busy doing other things, besides coming up with interesting content for this show?
This was literally painful to watch.
Who exactly is this for? If your goal was to actually teach people anything, it obviously fails there. If your goal was to be funny, I'd argue that it fails at that, too. And if your goal was to make the much-needed case for treating pregnant women in the workplace better, then portraying them as greedy idiots out to scam their employers is just actively harmful.
I'm really disappointed in you here, TLS.
I think the hormones have affected her sense of humor.
… pregnancy will remain a mystery for eternity…medical science will never be able to understand and learn everything… because life is beautiful… and full of mystery…and GOD’s gift to mankind…”be fruitful and become many… and fill the earth”…Genesis 1:27-31
Women whose bodies take an absolute beating during pregnancy would like to disagree and ask for medical enlightenment thanks
