Hi new friends! I'm so happy you're here. I'd love if you left a comment below and shared more about your own journey and some of the dreams you have for your homestead! ❤ I just released my second video that explains why we homestead: ua-cam.com/video/4uMv3AITtY8/v-deo.html
Thanks for your new channel no matter I'm starting with nothing or others with everything I know I'm not alone completely. Thank you and please never stop teaching so us newbie out here can keep learning. 18:55
I'm excited to see what you learn and learn from watching you. My homesteading journey is still a couple years away, but I'm working on building an intentional community in western Washington, where we'll have an orchard, some chickens and ducks and more!
Love that idea! Building a community is so important when it comes to homesteading. We've leaned on our community in multiple ways throughout the journey. It's great to be able to swap plants, borrow equipment, help with homesteading tasks, and have a local community of people with similar interests. Sounds like you have some big dreams similar to us!
Hi, we are in our 70's and have farmed for most of these years and still are doing mega amounts of gardening and canning. We noticed your trees are a little too close to each other. That is a done deed, but your fences need to be higher. To keep animals out year round. Good luck! 17:56
Hi! Welcome!! Wow that's amazing! I hope to do more canning in the future. I've really only canned tomato based items, pickles, and jam so far! Thanks for the feedback on the trees. Great thing to consider for when we add more!
Hello and congratulations on getting started with your new homestead. We homestead in the midlands of SC on the Savannah River. We are on 10 acres of land way back in the woods. We have been on our property for over 30 years. We love gardening. We can and preserve our foods.
Hi from southern Ontario Canada. Presently I live in an apartment and am dreaming of a small homestead myself. Currently been adding to my cannery. Pressure cooking, dehydrating and using my food saver vacuum packer for putting dry goods in my pantry and cooking from scratch. Next up is learning for to bake my own sourdough bread and other baked goods. Dreaming of a freeze dryer. I want to eventually have a garden and chickens.
I love that you're already learning homesteading skills while living in an apartment! That is the way to do it. There is so much learning when it comes to homesteading so the more you can learn now, the better!
I'm so glad this randomly popped up on my recommended viewing! It's such an inspiration, especially since I'm impatiently awaiting the start of our own homestead adventure. My family is in New England, but we're planning a move back to Texas, and waiting to get back there to get started is challenging for someone who has dreamed of this for so long! This has been a dream 20 years in the making! I look foward to following your journey. It's going to be a very different one than our own, but I'm looking forward to watching it come together.
Ahh don't wait any longer! Homesteading looks different for everyone. I'm not sure what your living situation or interests are but maybe you could start preserving local produce or growing some plants where you're at! The beautiful thing about homesteading is that it looks different for everyone and you don't need land to get started. Hoping that you can get back to Texas soon though so that you can fulfill your dream as you've always envisioned it ❤️
@@HomesteadDreamers I'm hoping we can start preserving once winter's over from stuff we can pick up at farmer's markets. I've had a number of opportunities for skill building over the years, with gardening, helping with chickens, working at a horse stable with goats and a donkey, and even helping with construction on an off-grid property. That was such a learning experience! We're hoping this winter will allow some time to experiment with making pickles and maybe even testing out some cheese too. I've been trying to be patient with waiting on news about the move. It sounds like there's a few things to figure out before we can move onto the land down there, but we've finally hit the point where it's just a waiting game. This is the closest we've been to making it happen in a very long time, and I'm so excited!
@@sarasynfox Those skill building opportunities sound amazing - especially the horse stable & helping with construction. We are self-building our house now and have had numerous friends come help because they were interested in learning the skills too! Pickles are my favoriteeee!! We have 10 jars from this year. It's such a great way to preserve cucumbers because they grow in abundance! Keep me updated on the cheese. I'm so intrigued with cheese making but have never tried myself. Will you buy the diary locally or from the store? Hoping that 2024 is your year and that you guys can move back to Texas sooner rather than later! 🎉
Hello from the Blue Ridge Mountains, just found your page. I currently live in the city preparing to move back to the country next year. I hope to grow and supply my family with the vegetables and fruits so we don't rely on the grocery stores, I've raised chickens in my backyard for 6years, I to have a couple years of gardening so thanks to another UA-camr I watch Jess from Roots and Refuge Farm when she said turn your waiting room into a classroom that spoke to me in a different kind of way. I told my honey the first thing we were planting was our fruit trees and bushes on the new property. I joined the Arbor Day Foundation and they have a huge selection of plants, with a donation you get certain free trees that they ship at the correct time of planting. Congratulations on making your dreams a reality.
Hello and welcome! So happy for you that you'll be moving back to the country soon. Do you have chickens in your backyard in the city? I know some counties/cities don't allow that! I love watching Jess's videos as well. She is such a genuine, authentic person and she inspires me daily! Her quote of turning the waiting room into a classroom is so profound! Great idea with joining the Arbor Day Foundation. Definitely check out your county resources to see if you can get trees/ bushes through the county for free. Our county has some really awesome varieties available including Spicebush and Witch Hazel!
@@HomesteadDreamers Good afternoon, witch hazel would be amazing to have.. The city I currently live in does allow up to 10 chickens and 1 rooster as long as your neighbors don't call and complain to much for the noise. I never had a rooster but my local hardware store had some chicks one year around my daughters 5th birthday so we got 3 as a fun teaching lesson for her and well myself too since it was all new to us. After the move I will most certainly reach out to my local offices. For now I'm still learning lol
Just keep in mind that while some plants are deer resistant that does not keep them safe. The fawns are learning what is tasty and what is not. You will still get some predation on your plants. The babies tend to top flowers or pull them out of the ground. Still pesky... a line or two of hot fence helps. Cheers and good luck with your endeavor.
Sounds like I'll need some fence from the beginning! Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. We surprisingly never had deer issues at the other property (knock on wood) despite being right near a patch of woods & farm fields.
coul could be because of the presence of dogs or there is a higher predator load. Deer are a nuisance. Our Guardian dogs keep them away for us. Are you in the PNW or back east? I guess you could be somwhere in between too. lol@@HomesteadDreamers
Amazing, congratulations!! 🎉 We are somewhat off-grid, we have a septic system and well but are still connected to the electrical grid. We added a spare conduit to our new home so we can install solar in the future when we can afford it!
Living off grid for over 11 years now I can tell you that unwanted critters in your garden can be a challenge. Honestly deer were the easiest to keep out. The WORST are rabbits!! They will chew the base of your fruit trees. So do something to protect the base you'll be glad you did. Attracting critters with the compost pile might cause you trouble down the road. They could getbinto your gardens or attack your poultry. A small tumbler composter to put your food scraps in would be a good idea or feed it to poultry. We are self building also Many challenges strong desire and will required. Living a more self reliant life requires you to be an active participant so always something to do. We are in Tennessee and enjoy a long growing season which I'm so grateful for! Look forward to watching you grow
Wow that's amazing that you've been off-grid for 11 years. We are close to off grid - only connected to the electrical grid but that was our personal choice! We hope to eventually add solar but it wasn't in the budget to start. Someone else mentioned the compost attracting critters and that is a good point! I'll need to come up with something in the spring/early summer to keep them at bay. Yes totally agree, being more self relient requires a lot more work and there are alwayssss projects. That's part of the fun! Continuous learning 🙂 Thanks for joining us on this journey!
Hi from Canada, New Brunswick. 😁 We're following you guys on your other channel as we're in the beginning stages of setting up our homestead. We bought a wooded property, going to clear it in the spring and will start building a house this year. Planning to do some works ourselves, so it might take some time. 😁 Good luck with your homestead and big dreams! ❤
So glad to have you following on both channels! Love to hear about another fellow homesteader starting their journey from the beginning. Definitely look into hiring a forestry consultant to see if you can get some money for the timber! We have a video on that on Mason Dixon Acres. The self-build definitely takes a long time but it's been totally worth it. We have learned so many valuable skills from the process. Ours took a bit longer since we have been filming everything but I still think self-builds typically take quite a bit longer than if you were hiring a builder. Best of luck to you both! Would love to hear updates as you get further along in the project 🙂
Hello! Great to meet you. Been growing alot of our own food over the last ten years within the Houston TX city limits. It's taken us a while to get used to growing food in the south; we moved here from Vermont which as you can imagine is very different. Also making progress producing many of our own products like yogurt, sour cream , butter and lots of other stuff! Have had some ridiculous failures and some wins too! Looking forward to following your progress. Be well!
Hello! Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂 It must've been quite the learning experience to grow in the south after living in Vermont. So cool that you make many of your own products! I love that - we hope to do that too once we are more established
Glad I found you, I subscribe and I'm Jammie, my husband and I bought our small farm/homestead in 2020, we have just over 10 acres of complete woods when we bought this home, we raise heavy Alpine dairy goat milking lines, for family milkers, we also raise California and New Zealand meat rabbits, we have a large flock of colored laying hens, I also have a raised bed garden, we have adopted wild mustangs and a burro. I also love growing mushrooms as we have wild ones here in are woods, but want to get into more. We have Apple, Cherry, nectar tree, grapes, elderberry, cranberry, figs, a patch of asparagus which I want about 100 more. Herbs, we really love growing our own food and sharing when we have an abundance. We are in Marcellus, MI. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to seeing all your progress. As we are still working ours to get to where we want it. Going from completey woods to were we are now and we're we want to be has taken long hours tons of money. But it will be how we want it in the end. Till next time God Bless.
Wow that is amazing! You have both put in a lot of work since 2020. That's amazing progress in a short period of time. I love hearing that you're able to do all of that on only 10 acres!
Thank you for sharing this. I’m getting excited to retire. I’m wanting to invest in young people, hoping to buy land for potential young people. I’m too old to start a homestead myself but I really want to live on one! I have a lot of nieces and nephews and one daughter so hopefully someone will want to start a homestead. I’ve done a lot of stuff, raising chickens, growing trees, clearing land, gardening, cooking, etc. I’m hoping my young people will catch my vision!
When do you retire? Such an exciting time! That's a great idea- to invest in a homestead so that you can experience it but maybe not be fully responsible for everything. I hope one of the young family members catches the homesteading bug!
So glad to find you! My husband and I, are currently looking for property to start a homestead. Can’t wait to watch your process! Thanks for sharing your journey, about to watch the rest of your videos so I can catch up!
Thanks so much for coming along for the journey. It took us a little over a year to find the right piece of land so if you don't find what you're looking for right away, don't be discouraged. I'm sure the perfect piece will eventually surface. Wishing the best for you both!
Greetings Dreamers! I'm in the PNW of the US, and while I would not say I am on a path to homesteading, I am certainly on a path to a bit more of a self sustainable lifestyle. This past summer was my first time really getting my hands in some soil and learning how to grow things and it was awesome. I have a few winter crops in doing... questionably... at the moment, but I am eagerly awaiting next spring and round 2 of learning and growing. Really excited for you guys and your adventures ahead. Thanks for taking us along with.
I love this! What do you have growing now? It's too cold for us to be growing anything! I'm eager to start growing again in the spring as well. I'm excited to start my seed starts.
Hello Dreamers from North Texas 😊. We bought 10 acres in 2022 and build our dream house in 2023 and been living in it for 4 months now and about to start our homestead. For 2024 I’m starting my own garden, I had a small garden 2 beds but planning on building 8 beds and a green house this year. So exited but nervous of course. Thank you for sharing your content definitely learning from you and other homesteaders 💛
Congrats on the new house!! Sounds like you have some great plans to expand your garden in 2024. So excited for you! Are your beds raised or in the ground?
Same for our new homestead! I eventually want to make a multi-bin system where I can have compost in different stages. Composting is the best! Turning food and yard waste into garden gold 💯
I'm Paulie from Wisconsin USA. I'm 46 divorced Military Veteran of 9/11. RENTING 125 YR old rundown homestead. I have a dream to make this work. Alone now but open to grow inside myself and the world around me to laugh and learn. 😊 16:07
Wow 125 years old! That's amazing! I bet the house has some beautiful architectural features 😍 You can totally make it work! I find it helpful to focus on one thing at a time so that I don't get overwhelmed. It can be easy to want to do it all but sometimes it's just not possible with every day life!
@HomesteadDreamers absolutely about the being overwhelmed. It's a farmhouse that overwhelmed the years gets added to not so well. But have new 125 feet well in October, new roof in November. Now a crazy winter. Lol. But plans for spring a garden for canning, and like you said one thing at a time thank you for responding and for your advice.
That's amazing! Our dog Georgy is actually from Puerto Rico. He was a rescue! We always joke that it's too cold for him in PA even though our winters are pretty mild 😅 So fun that you have a garden and chickens! Do you have anything new you're working on for 2024?
Hello from the UK.....currently don't have a homestead as of yet but that hasn't stopped me from learning the skills and knowledge to a certain degree so that i am as prepared as possible for when i eventually do have one,it's so good to see a channel and homestead right from the very beginning....good luck and dare to dream
That's amazing! There is so much to learn when it comes to homesteading so learning now is a great idea. One of my favorite things about homesteading is the continuous learning. I always wish I had started sooner!
I'm excited to see what you do and in what order, so I can learn more. We just moved to a 10 acre property. It had a house but it wasn't livable yet. We've been renovating/repairing it for about a year and hope to move in in the next few months. I got chickens four months ago - still waiting for my first eggs but very excited! I've got one garden bed and one in ground area growing and have been testing what grows well and when to plant, etc.
Congrats on the 10 acres. That's amazing! Is it wooded or cleared? The house sounds like a big project but I'm sure it'll be extremely rewarding when you finally move in! We loveeee our chickens! Soon enough you'll have fresh eggs in your backyard 😍 That's great that you've already started experimenting with planting. I need to do that this year with our place.
It's got a good clear middle (5 acres) with splotchy overgrown patches even after bushhogging and lots of trees around the perimeter. Fenceline comes after house. : ) I got my first egg! So Happy! @@HomesteadDreamers
Hi! So excited to dream with you while watching your dreams come true. You mentioned the coffee grounds and I just wanted to warn unless they are organic they may have heavy chemical load. Non organic coffee and tea are heavily sprayed! I switched my mom to organic after learning this. Take care, stay warm and God bless!
Just came across your channel and subscribed, I started homesteading a year or two ago, our property is 1,000 square meters, so quite small, but our goal is to upgrade to a larger property off grid. We’re from South Australia 🇦🇺 😀📸😀
My husband and I are in the process of buying a smallholding in Ireland - only 3.5 acres, but that's what was in our budget. We hope to have layer hens, meat rabbits, and a couple of Kunekune pigs. There's also a cottage to rebuild. We hope to be there by March, so just in time to get a veg garden started. I'm interested to see how you start off your homestead as we're at the same stage. Very informative video. Good luck.
That's really exciting - congratulations! 3.5 acres is still a good bit of land and there's a lot that you can do with it. Is it cleared or wooded? Sounds like a fun project with the cottage too 😍
Hello from TN. I am currently growing a good size garden in my urban lot. But we are in the process of building a house on our homestead and I’m hoping to grow and preserve a lot more in the future. We are not spring chickens anymore, but my way of thinking is that we have more time and experience than we did 20 years ago when we were raising kids and moving around every 2-3 years living a military life.
Hi There! So happy to have you. Congrats on the new home. Sounds like you're in a similar place in your journey as us (with the house build going on). I am also hoping to grow and preserve more in the next few years!
Wow, looks like I’m your first subscriber! I started my own mini homestead on a 3/4 Acreage in Central Europe last year. I wish you the best of luck and success and am looking forward to following your journey!
Greetings from Marion county in East Texas ! ❤These intentions y'all are putting into your homestead will blossom! God bless you and your beautiful family!❤ We're in the process of moving to my family's property. Mom gave my husband (38) and I (28) the green light to build a homestead of our own. Haven't even figured out living arrangements yet, but we're excited for the long haul journey of homesteading as well. Best regards from the Lowes Fam 🙏❤️
Hello and welcome! So fun to connect from PA to Texas. I've only been to Houston and Austin once so I don't know much about Texas other than our growing climates are quite different. Thank you for the sweet well wishes. We wish the same to you ❤ What an exciting journey to be on, being able to build a homestead from scratch! Best of luck with the move. How many acres is the property? I'm sure you'll figure out a living arrangement that works for you! We are currently in the RV but we waited to buy and move into it until we had water, electric, and sewage on the property. That has made it SO much easier and more manageable!
Excellent work! I am so excited that a small new channel popped up on my feed! Subscribed and liked, good luck! I am hoping to one day do a bit of homesteading myself but for now am working and enjoying gardening at my small lot in the city! I am doing a bit of video making for starting plants indoors myself, did it a couple years ago, then didn't last year but I think I will pick it back up this year as I have learned so much, its a fun little hobby for sure. Last year I grew veggie plants for all my aunts that wanted and they loved it, I will be doing the same this year as well!
That's amazing that you're making use of the space that you have! Such a great idea. I'm always so amazed with what can be grown in a small space. So cool that you also have a YT. I checked out your most recent video and your seed starts looks so healthy!
@@HomesteadDreamers Thanks! I will be uploading in a couple months once I have this years starts in some dirt, I also hope to do some garden tours of what I am working with on my small lot in the city. Cheers!
Hello from France. I've watched your video and subscribed right after which I never do. It's nice to find someone with similar values, building a homestead from the beginning. I'm also interested in the house construction part. I'm currently renting but I can't wait to have my own house and land. In the meantime I try to buy locally and I'm experiencing in my mum's garden in the growing season.
Hello! What part of France are you in? France is one of the few countries I have visited in Europe (when I was about 13) It's on my list to visit again! I'd love to learn more about the agriculture in Europe. Our house construction is primarily documented on our other channel: Mason Dixon Acres but I'll share some bits and pieces on this channel - primarily design choices 🙂 I love that you're doing what you can even without a house and land! I wish I had started my journey sooner but I'm thankful that I'll have a base level of knowledge when starting on our new land. I want to take a course on soil health soon so that I can really focus improving the quality of our soil
@@HomesteadDreamers I've lived in the countryside close to Lyon for most of my life but I'm close to Chambéry now. Did you like it ? What part did you visit ? This spring I want to try a method called "maraîchage sur sol vivant" (basically you bring in a ton of organic matter like compost to favor soil biodiversity and use only tools that are less likely to kill the worms (like a grelinette)). I'm associating plants that are mutually beneficial, I don't put the same plant (or a plant of the same family) at the same place two years in a row. I've put a bee hotel last year and bumblebees have settled in.
Hi, this just popped up on my feed and I'm glad it did! We have a small homestead in the hills in the Scottish Highlands and I'm enjoying following other channels with similar goals, ethos and visions. Such good inspiration, especially as spring is not too far away now. Good luck in your ventures and I look forward to following along 😊
I agree! It's fun to follow along with people with similar goals, ethos, and visions! It almost makes it feel like you are there with them while they work on projects or sharing a cup of coffee! Thanks for the well wishes! Happy new year and wishing you a successful 2024 growing season!
Hi! I’m Teresa. I live in Western Kentucky. I’m a teacher and will be retiring in May. I plan to start gardening with the intention of canning and preserving what I grow. I’d like to also start with a few chickens. I also want a greenhouse. It’s a big dream that I hope to implement in stages.
Hi Teresa, so nice to meet you! Congratulations on your retirement, only a few more months. I can only imagine how excited you are. I love that you have some big goals but plan to implement in stages! That's similar to how we have been with our homestead goals. A greenhouse sounds so dreamy. I've never had one but am always dreaming up big ideas. Excited for you and to hear more!
Hi Teresa, I'm only a few years behind you. Good luck & have fun! PS I have made a video of Western KY beaten biscuits how-to. Thought of it as I read your comment. Take care, Fran
Hi! So happy for you guys and so cool to hop on here and follow your homesteading journey. Right now is phase of life for me about collecting knowledge on all things homesteading to implement in the future with my family.
Thank you so much for joining! I know that feeling well! I still feel like there is SO much learning to do. I think that's one of my favorite things about homesteading - the endless learning opportunities. It's also fun to see how everyone's homesteads differ... some focus more on gardening and growing food while others have lots of animals! Are you in a location where you could maybe start some smaller homesteading related projects? I always wish I had started sooner!
@@HomesteadDreamers yes! I am currently working on refining my gardening skills and learning how to cultivate crops that preserve well. Also working on preserving!! My fiancé has a mild livestock background and once we have more space we plan on having laying hens to start (: Trying to steward this time well to soak in all the knowledge and experience we can get with the space that we have.
@@amandawilliams2929 I love that idea of cultivating crops that preserve well. This is something I'm working on too! I'm trying out a few onion and potato varieties this year that store better. That's great that your fiance has a livestock background - that'll definitely come in handy with laying hens. We love our hens + rooster ❤
Hi! I'm glad you came up on my feed. I'm from Australia and would love to move back onto land but in the meantime I have my own urban homestead happening. Looking forward to seeing more of what you do!
@amandafalconer9888 Love that! I'd love to hear what things you have growing in your urban space. Alex's brother lives in DC and has a large garden even though he lives in a row home. He's always getting creative and finding ways to add more growing space!
@@krenee2266 That's awesome! How much square footage are you expanding to? I'm always amazed at what can be grown in a small space. That was definitely one of those "aha moments" when I first started gardening.
@@HomesteadDreamers Oh I too have been gardening for years in other locations. I'm literally just expanding from how I've been growing into the space I have to grow in. I've been doing gardening believe it or not out of 2 little kiddie pools & just in random spaces this year I'm expanding into 2 12'x4 garden beds & a "New to me" 😉 green house. Not to put my hopes & dreams out in to the universe before I get a chance to express them in real life but I too am hoping to start my UA-cam channel in 2024 I've been gearing up for quite a while. I heard you say you come from another channel any advice?
@@krenee2266 Did you have to drill holes in the kiddie pools to make it work? A greenhouse sounds so dreamy! That's one thing I think about often and definitely want to add to our property. As far as the YT channel, I think it's great to put your hopes and dreams out there and to think and talk about them often! We do that with our goals and find that it helps us envision our dreams until they become reality. A few thoughts from what we've learned (going on 4 years on YT) - Consistency is key! Create a posting schedule that works for you and commit to it. Make sure your audio and video quality are good - this makes a huge difference. At first you might not be great at making videos.. and that's okay! Practice makes perfect 🙂 Our first video is comical it's so bad! 😆
Hello from the UK. I currently live in rented property so unable to do the whole homestead lifestyle... but I plan to start growing my own carrots and potatoes very soon. I'm looking forward to watching your journey, good luck to you x
Hello! So happy to have you. Potatoes are one of my favorite things to grow! Will you plant them in the ground or are you planning to use grow bags or another method? I'm trying a few new varieties this year so I'm interested to see how they grow 🌱
I'd like to try grow bags first, purely to ease myself into the process. The garden ground at this property is very heavy with stones, bricks etc. so it would take a lot of heavy work to get it suitable....but could be a future project maybe
So SOON! Congrats! Check if Connecticut has any preferential tax assessment programs for lots bigger than 10 acres. PA does! We unfortunately only have 6 so we don't automatically qualify but if we make a certain amount of income off our property from ag we can get accepted into the program
Good stuff so far, do you plan to propagate, espallier, or use grafting to make your orchard as productive as possible? Also look into sylvopasture solutions to feed your animals.
We actually have thought about grafting! Alex worked at an orchard growing up and the owner of the orchard offered to teach us how to graft trees. Thanks for the tip about looking into sylvopasture. I'll definitely do that!
I need this channel. We just bought a property and come spring will be trying to do a lot of things. I am in Connecticut, what state or zone are you in (sorry if that’s a dumb question, I’ve never seen your other channel).
I love your wicker beds. I don't understand why you would put that much effort into something that will not last when as you say you do have a lot going on. I would have liked to have seen more of your house build because I think that is part of your process. Re your compost heap I am sure it is being raided at night and in my opinion you are training the wildlife to come into your garden. I don't understand why you have no time for veg growing but will grow flowers and herbs. Makes no sense to me at all. But...as you say it is a journey.
The wattle bed turned out beautiful! I wanted to use up a lot of the branches from the fallen trees. We lost about 25 trees during the storm 😢 I'm hoping they will last longer than the internet says - only time will tell. That's a good point about the compost bin.. Right now it has a lot of tiny branches in leaves in it so this is working better because of the volume but maybe I can start a separate enclosed bin for food scraps! Thanks for the feedback! I still plan to grow veggies this year, just not at this property-- at my old garden which is located at Alex's moms 🙂 Definitely a journey -- lot's of learning and multiple ways to do the same thing!
@@HomesteadDreamers I'm in Tasmania. I remember when we bought this place the people renting before hand had been throwing scraps into a pile in the garden. It really set back getting the garden reestablished with possums getting in every night. I also had a friend in New Hampshire who put a trail cam on his compost heap and it was amazing how many critters visited it. All fine- he wasn't trying to grow a garden.
Hi new friends! I'm so happy you're here. I'd love if you left a comment below and shared more about your own journey and some of the dreams you have for your homestead! ❤

Thanks for the feedback on the trees. Great thing to consider for when we add more!
8:37 heavy pruning is best done in dormant period, light pruning (suckers, deadwood) can be done anytime.
Thanks for the tip! Sounds like I need to do more research soon since it's winter here.
Hello and congratulations on getting started with your new homestead. We homestead in the midlands of SC on the Savannah River. We are on 10 acres of land way back in the woods. We have been on our property for over 30 years. We love gardening. We can and preserve our foods.
Wow that's amazing that you have 10 acres! Sounds like a beautiful property on the river.
We surprisingly never had deer issues at the other property (knock on wood) despite being right near a patch of woods & farm fields.
coul
could be because of the presence of dogs or there is a higher predator load. Deer are a nuisance. Our Guardian dogs keep them away for us. Are you in the PNW or back east? I guess you could be somwhere in between too. lol@@HomesteadDreamers
Just signed the contract for me and my partners new off grid homestead in Australia. I found this channel at just the right time
Amazing, congratulations!! 🎉 We are somewhat off-grid, we have a septic system and well but are still connected to the electrical grid. We added a spare conduit to our new home so we can install solar in the future when we can afford it!
Woohoo! We just bought 40 acres!
@theurbanthirdhomestead Congratulations 🎉 exciting times ahead
@HomesteadDreamers thank you, its all very exciting
@@theurbanthirdhomestead Wow- 40 acres is a dream! We currently have 6. So excited for you, congratulations! 🎉 What will be your first project?
Living off grid for over 11 years now I can tell you that unwanted critters in your garden can be a challenge.
Honestly deer were the easiest to keep out. The WORST are rabbits!!
They will chew the base of your fruit trees. So do something to protect the base you'll be glad you did.
Attracting critters with the compost pile might cause you trouble down the road. They could getbinto your gardens or attack your poultry.
A small tumbler composter to put your food scraps in would be a good idea or feed it to poultry.
We are self building also
Many challenges strong desire and will required.
Continuous learning 🙂
Thanks for joining us on this journey!
Rubiah from the Netherlands . I’m thinking about homesteading in Serbia. I really thankful for video. Gives me hope!
That's amazing! Now's a great time to start planning and learning some of the skills
Hi from Canada, New Brunswick. 😁
We're following you guys on your other channel as we're in the beginning stages of setting up our homestead. We bought a wooded property, going to clear it in the spring and will start building a house this year. Planning to do some works ourselves, so it might take some time. 😁
Good luck with your homestead and big dreams!
I am about to start this journey myself. Moving from the suburbs to the country.
That's awesome! Congrats!
I just found your channel… I love it
Thank you for sharing this.
I share your vision but in the uk. Feel free to emigrate. …. Or come on vacation Also. You say you are too old?//. You are never too old. :-)😊
5:42 excellent Idea, it was also the first thing I implemented.
Just came across your video. Nice work!
I am in Puerto Rico, have a small garden and chickens for now.
Soon enough you'll have fresh eggs in your backyard 😍
That's great that you've already started experimenting with planting.
Thanks for following along and the insight on coffee grounds! I'll do some additional research into this!
Oh! Yes! I’ve looked at two plots. 14 and 17 acres.
That would be a dream! I hope it works out for you. Keep me posted!
This is fantastic... Eyes Forward & Focused! Can't wait to see all the developments. I'm on my 8th year slowly building in garden and systems
That's amazing! We hope to build a lot of systems as well to make everything as efficient as possible!
Just came across your channel and subscribed, I started homesteading a year or two ago, our property is 1,000 square meters, so quite small, but our goal is to upgrade to a larger property off grid. We’re from South Australia 🇦🇺 😀📸😀
Thanks for joining! It's amazing what you can do with a small space. I hope you find the larger property you're looking for!
Sounds like a fun project with the cottage too 😍
Hello from Australia 🌏🦘 we are also starting from scratch on 63 acres 😅 maybe youll come and virtually visit our homestead someday 🎉

I've lived in the countryside close to Lyon for most of my life but I'm close to Chambéry now.

Glad this popped up. How fun for you two. Upper South here, zone 6. What is your alls zone? Thanks, take care.
Lots of fun projects to come! We are in zone 7a
I retire in two years but I’m finding places to buy now! I see 10 to 15 acres for sale. I’m looking in Connecticut.
So SOON!
Yay that's so exciting!! Congratulations. We are in zone 7a - we are in Southern Pennsylvania. Spring will be here soon, can't wait!
Hi from Australia. 🔔🦘🦜👍
Hello 👋 so happy to have you!
Hi I’m also in Australia
I am wondering what Growing Zone you are in?
7a! What about you?
I still plan to grow veggies this year, just not at this property-- at my old garden which is located at Alex's moms 🙂
Definitely a journey -- lot's of learning and multiple ways to do the same thing!
