I think those are some wonderful goals! I'm not in a position to homestead myself, but I definitely want to make more moves towards sustainable living, and a big part of that for me is reducing how much I purchase, and looking for ways I can make things myself. So I am 100% with you on the sewing front! I'd also like to get better at managing my small garden. I think I'll be focusing on herbs and fruit this year, because those are low maintenance and something I can attain. Last year I planted some old salad radishes which had sprouted in my fridge and let them go to seed, so I'm looking forward to planting my own harvested seeds when the weather gets a little warmer! In the past I've been very guilty of setting myself lofty and unattainable goals, so this year I want to focus in on things which are more realistic in my living situation. I think it's much better to achieve a humble goal than give up because I couldn't reach a lofty one. And who knows. Maybe some easy wins will spur me on!
I love your goal of looking for ways to make things yourself! Sewing will be great for that. You'll have to keep us posted on how planting your sprouted radish seeds goes! I am also very guilty of setting lofty goals (clearly lol). I find that if I think about the goals frequently and make small progress daily on at least one of them, I slowly get closer and closer without even thinking about it. I love the saying "Get 1% better everyday" that's only 15 minutes each day. Cheering for you!
We share a lot of the same goals for this year : I've been looking into the textile and don't plan on bying anything other than natural ones like linen or coton (except for sportwear in which a small amount of synthetic seems unavoidable), I've recently looked into wood carving, I bought a moon calendar for keeping track of my seedlings and other gardening stuffs, I've been looking into caning books... I'm a biology teacher so I have a good knowledge base of plants and permaculture but I always love to learn new stuff... totally unrelated but I'm also learning italian for a future trip. Wish you a great year !
Agreed with the clothing! Finding sportswear is SO challenging. I have one pair of biker shorts from Mate the Label and I really like them but haven't tried any other brands yet! So funny you mention the moon calendar, because I was just looking at that the other day! Would love any recommendations you have on learning more about that! Learning Italian sounds fun too and will definitely benefit you during your trip!
