    I wonder how much these guys think about age in their preparations. A simple example. I've lived in houses with multiple floors. Now as I am much older, I am thinking I don't want a place with lots of steps I need to climb. If you are going to do serious preps, think about designing it so even in retirement, you can manage it.

      In my last home I designed it to have the master bedroom & bath on the main floor. It had kitchen, with a deck off of it, living room, dining room, office, powder room and master bedroom. Upstairs was 2 beds & bath for visiting kids and grandkids. Basement walkout had small kitchen, laundry room, bedroom & bath, powder room, study, recreation room, and storage. (Ready to become a rental if needed). As I aged it was more difficult to climb the stairs and the loss of balance made falling down the stairs a possibility. I lived on one floor quite comfortably but the house maintenance was getting harder to do. So now at 80, I moved into a two bedroom apartment near my daughter and grandkids. And thru this process gained a chauffeur as my daughter insists on driving me wherever I want to go. It was an adjustment at first, but now it is a blessing.

    As someone that has developed 4 acreage properties (3 from raw land) i would highly recommend anyone wanting just 1 machine that could help them develope their acreage, build driveway, septic, footings or ponds etc. to look at the Kubota B26 industrial tractor with back hoe. They have a higher lift capacity than the farm tractor of the same or slightly larger size and with the powerful back hoe allow you to dig 9ft deep. Being somewhat compact they can almost replace a skid steer and get into oretty tight places. My beigbour had both a U35 excavator and a Bob Cat and he commented ont how impressed he was by my little B21 (older model) which i had and how it could do everything his two machines were doing!

    • @malisinimicus4358
      @malisinimicus4358 3 місяці тому +7

      The most amazing thing about a B21 was the fact i could dig with the back hoe for 10hrs straight on just a 5gal jerry can of diesel! Mine was purchased used with 800hrs on it but it dug 400 ft of septic field, excavated the foundations for a 2400 sq ft home, back filled pit run, dug the irrigation pond, dug holes for hundred or more trees and did all the land scaping and then was sold for the same amount as i originally paid 3 yrs later!

    • @wti999
      @wti999 3 місяці тому +2

      Exactly my thought when watching the video.. a backhoe is the most versatile equipment on a homestead.. the Kubota your mention seems like a good choice.. here on my homestead in Sweden I went with a domestic built one called "Huddig" which is fairly common here considering access to parts and service is important.. I also happen to have all the other toys..😀 but if I had to choose the backhoe would be the one I'll stick with.. 👍🏼

      The Golden age of Knowledge.
      The world is reactive, aberrated & confused. We will not judge it. The only judgment that we can make upon the world is that it is reactive, aberrated, confused & needs lots of auditors.
      This judgment does not require anger, sadness, loss, resentment, hostility or revenge. It does not call for attack in any form.
      The world is confused, reactive & aberrated. No need to judge it. How can the world be certain when the world is without Knowledge?
      We may look upon our life thus far & realize the extent of our own confusion. How could it be otherwise when we were without Knowledge?
      Knowledge is with us now. We are beginning to reclaim Knowledge so its certainty can express itself through us increasingly.
      This is the great gift that we are now learning to receive. It is a gift the world will learn to receive through us. Let's clear the world from aberrations to begin with.

      Just plan the things which will be most important to you and do those first. Spend your time planning now, so you know what you will be doing when you get to the property. A friend moved to Italy on an odd shape piece of land with a stone hut. Most people would renovate the hut. But he put in a huge grass lawn spending a few months preparing soil, double seeding, watering, etc. He had a wife, toddler and another on the way. They pitched a tent and lived on the grass while he prepared the garden. His wife tended to the garden. The lawn was where they entertained, cooked and ate, played with their kids, and slept. Then he started reno for tiny hut with 1 bedroom. Although there would be 4 of them, they managed until the next year he was able to put a bedroom addition and built an outdoor kitchen. But that lawn turned out to be one of his best decisions.... Who would have thought?

I’m living paycheck to paycheck too, however my husband and I are working hard to clear our debts so we CAN get off grid like Nate shows here, because that’s what grownups do - the find solutions to their problems rather than whining about it

      As a single parent with two toddlers, I went thru this in the 70's & 80's. That was when women could be a secretary, a nurse if you had 4 year university, or a 5 year university librarian. I was a high school drop out. We ate eggs and beans a lot. I worked two jobs. I made low wages but that extra job helped me stock food supplies buying tomatoes, flour, rice, peas and corn by the case. We didn't buy chocolate, chips, coke or pizza. I struggled, and cried many a night, but we made it. I even participated in marches to stop the Vietnam war.
      I learned to drive an 18 wheeler in case I lost my job, so I could keep working and have my kids with me. In the end I didn't need to be a long distance driver, but that was my Plan B. I did Plan C and enrolled in night school and after 10 years got my University Degree. Interesting how the people don't seem to take any action these days, besides complaining on the internet. Take Nate's ideas and scale them down to fit your circumstances. The world is full of choices. You just need to look at the problem from a different perspective and you will succeed.

      Do you really think Russia is going to nuke Florida? Russia is just letting USA know they can be a threat, not just America. It is sending a message to USA to stop all the talk of nukes, missiles attacking Russia, and troops going into Ukraine and Russia. Russia has said they won't be the first to use nukes, but they will make sure they are the last. Russia has patience. The US only thinks of retaliation and bullying. USA keeps thinking all this fighting is going to stay in Europe. Russia is just showing them, NOT THIS TIME. Be prepared to be a target if NATO is going to attack Russian soil. Americans should be very afraid of this. They will end up like the Japanese dying of radiation burns and cancer.
      If there is a nuke showdown, every place except maybe a few in South America and Africa will be unliveable. Not just from nuke damage, but the mushroom cloud will black out the sun. It will be months until the sun will be visible but the land will be radioactive and will not sustain plant or animal life. It seems humans disappear every 11,000 - 12,000 years and start over again. Will we be the ones who cause the cycle to repeat?

      True. But look at the area around you. What infrastructure is close by which might be a target. The internet has a site which tells you how much you would suffer based on blast size and distance. Even in war a lot of people survive... only to starve to death. So if you can be 50 miles from a blast zone and have a years worth of supplies, your chances of survival are high. But while we prep let's hope they will negotiate peace. Storing a pantry with foods you normally eat is never a waste. We just keep rotating putting the new purchases at the back and bringing the older ones to the front.

Are going to perform your own operation on yourself. If you don’t believe me look up the statistics on that. Then what happens if you get cellulitis- staff infection. Then theirs all the petroleum products needed to keep machinery running etc. The list goes on and on. So in ending you are really never totally off the grid.

      What when in a deadlymedical situation and you cannot self operate and all grid is down?
      Easy, you die. That's it, No sugarcoating. Preppers know that that day will come eventually for all of us, but until then they probably live a fulfilled life create offspring that will possibly rebuild an earth population that doesn't repeat the mistakes that led to the coming shtf.
      Right now grid down will be inevetable. Most of all people will die by initial blast, many by radiation poisoning and another whole lot by starvation. Then all the other ways. Some might be "lucky" enough to survive those Initial waves of death. After radiation levels severly decline and you can reseed some important plants from personal seed vaults and you don't need to feed from packaged food anymore, then a new grid and society can be rebuilt. In between there will be a lot of chaos and possibly depending on ethical circumstances another whole lot of interpersonal attrocities, by those with lesser ethical codes and morals.
      If there is any population that survived all this there will be societies that rebuild and maybe go a different way about interpersonal and international interchanges. The countries who did massive building of communal population shelters will dominate the aftermath of the political landscape. We'll see wether that is for the better. I can only say the western hemisphere has been dominated by sociopath.

      Icthamol for cellulitis/staff infection. Best drawing salve on the market. Available at Walgreens. Tea Tree oil in nostrils with Q-tip, and wash body down with plain yogurt. Wash all bedding, cloth seating and pets. Got it at a welder and it spread via contact to family. Cousin was a Dr.(used a lot of holistic approaches in her practice) and this finally kicked it out for good. Wear gloves when any cut/tear in skin to avoid recontamination when cleaning/gardening. Super important when gardening.

    Well done !! Nice !! Yes poplar. A fast, hot fire, but does make lots of ashes. The ashes can be leached out to make lye, for soap. Deciduous trees, create soil under them..from the leaf litter. A 45 gallon barrel, or better yet, two, one above the other for a heat exchange.. will heat just about anything. Fabricate the door and other parts or get the kit...for around 100$. Stove pipe can be made from sheet metal rolled around a smooth log of the right size..and rivetted together.

    Mannnn love your stuff Nate but sounds like China has a massive fleet heading towards Taiwan and Russia has 700,000 troops about to be released in Ukraine. I would want to hear more about your opinion on this matter. I live by wright Patt and it’s been super busy today with a nuke sniffer plane which NEVER happens.
