Loved this episode. It was actually Mahito that fulfilled Yuji's role in this world it seems like.
That forest/snow is just an imagery for an analogy of the hunter becoming the hunted. Mahito was so powerful that he always hunted humans but then at this point he was reduced to a pitiful little prey and felt genuine fear for the first time in his life. Like the rabbit being hurt and all the wolves looking above.
They animated it so well
Oh they animated it beautifully. Initially I was caught up in thinking it was a domain expansion of some sort but afterwards the analogy animation made so much more sense!
also it was crazy to see Mahito fear for his own life. I didn't deem him capable of feeling horrific dread the way he did. Rather, I thought he'd be laughing hysterically at finally being beaten in a fight
Mahito learned to do a 0.2 domain expansion shortly after he saw Gojo do it once. Mahito is insane with the progression and adaptation.

@@tobototoki Yeah he's meant to be hated haha. He is literally the embodiment of evil and hatred/negative emotions that humans harbor towards one another. He is not supposed to be loved. Great villain though. Don't always need a sad backstory for them.
My favorite episode of the season with Todo's locket scene and the symbolic Yuji Mahito snow scene

Actually when u play the part when Uraume bows down to Sukuna, he says "Who are you" with a downward frame...
In this scene when Mahito is defeated Yuji says " I am You"... with the same downward frame , when u match the side faces of Sukuna and Yuji....
Theoretically he was answering to Sukuna all along...

It's not Yuji's Domain, it's just a visual metaphor
The best part of this episode was not knowing that Todo has been manipulating both the watcher and the characters that needing to clap was the only way he could use it from the very beginning of his character appearance. He mentions that clapping doesn't mean he activates his technique. And even at the very end mahito was truly manipulated to the fact he hesitated and flinched when todo gave his last speech and clapped with one hand to give Yuji the chance to end the fight. A true full circle moment for his character. Todo didn't need to clap to activate his technique but he did need both his hands to be able to use it. Which is why sometimes during his fights we see him use his technique without actually seeing him clap.
This is facts, Todo is such a deceptive opponent to fight against ESPECIALLY after reading the latest manga chapter that came out!!
Mahito is my fave and it's kinda sad to see him go that soon but the end of his rivalry with Yuji is perfect. Instead of arguing like "No, we're nothing alike!" or something, Yuji actually accepts things the way they are. The curses have righ to kill humans out of predator instinct and people have right to kill curses out of self-defense instinct. It's just that - two species fighting for one piece of earth and they're no one right or wrong. Just like there is no right or wrong when wolf goes for rabbit🐇.
Stand proud, Mahito, you're strong. Well, was.
