  • How do I draw laser cut line? This is a question that some viewers have asked me in the past and again most recently in the comments of another video. So I thought it would be prudent to walk through the procedures you can use to draw an outline for any shape then you can subsequently use as the cut line for the engraved shape produced by your laser. In this tutorial video I will show three simple techniques for using Inkscape to create a shape outline that can be used to cut material on your your laser.

    Wow thank you I’ve had my glowforge for 3 months and didn’t know some of these things and was looking for something like this and your inlay video also helped me! Thank you so much

      Happy to help. They are topics that are a bit obscure but crucial skills to have for a lot of things. Welcome to the channel! 😀

    hi Steve, im using a longerray 5 10w lasercutter andlasergrbl for the control...problem is i dont know enough yet to make the laser chase the lines of lets say a simple box... what setting besides diag-vert-hor is there that would let me do that?

      GRBL is a vector format so it really only ever draws lines from on place to another. A circle is just a lot of really short lines. If you have a box design, then the only real trick is to set the power and speed for the line so it is will cut. LaserGRBL will do all the line chasing for you as long as the line setting is correct

      @@SteveMakesEverything thanks for the response. so the fact that im using a .png file doesnt matter.?.. which im thinking i should of probably mentioned before.

      @@jims9895 It should not make a lot of difference overall, but PNGs are handled slightly differently.
      Essentially, the laser is still drawing a line from one side of the image to the other, but along the way, the beam is being turned on and off as needed to create the image. There will be special image settings in laserGRBL for power and speed as well as the type of image rendering to use (e.g. Stucki). YOu will need to see these.
      I know laserGRBL is free but I will make an unbiased comment about buying Lightburn - it just works and there are tons of videos to help with it. You can try it free for 30 days and see if it is easier (and I believe it is).

    2:40 The inner star is not exactly allied to my eye. The bottom outer layer gap is a little bigger than the top of your star. Is that any adjustment needed? The square is working fine when I set the width and height

      It’s kind of up to Inkscape to do the right thing, so if f into perfectly centered they must have a minor bug

    Steve, how do I import an .re3 file into the laser? Thanks

      @SteveMakesEverything  2 роки тому +1

      On the file menu in RE3 you can load a project. A .RE3 file is one of these
