I've made this recipe twice. Once with boiling the 7 cloves garlic, and next time without. Overall, I DON'T recommend boiling the garlic. Instead reduce the cloves to 3-4, cut them in half, discard the inner stem/shoot, mince it, and add it to the blender with the cooked chickpeas etc. The raw garlic has soooo much amazing flavor that is almost completely lost if you boil it.
I love Hummus. Thank goodness I found this . I’m going to make it now.😊❤️
Thanks, Alon Shaya. Clear and detailed instructions. My hummus have come out great. The family loves it. I see some complaints about the baking soda. I have used as directed and am ok with it. Appreciate your video.
Here in lebanon we just can't live without hummus.
Guys it's delicious and it go very well with everything!!!
amazing, i've been waiting for the big restaurants tips for the ultimate hummus for a long time.
thank you very much for this video.
hummus is life!
YAS Shaya! Such a great chef. Most of you internet people haven’t been or live in New Orleans. His hummus is literally the best I’ve had.
thanks for the tutorial! really needed this for my kids birthday party! i used the kids for extra taste in the hummus but it really suites anyones taste.
I wouldn’t call it a classic hummus, but I would say it’s a fully loaded version. Every middle eastern culture has its own variation whether it’s the Palestinians, Syrians, Lebanese, Israelis, Egyptians and everyone else in the Middle East. Actually every household does it differently. The base ingredients for hummus bi tahini is chick peas, tahini, garlic, and lemon juice. Everything else is optional for taste. Some people like a grittier texture, some people like it creamy, some people like to add cumin, some people like to blend in olive oil instead of putting it on top. Some people find the garlic to strong
Me: Buys sabra hummus at the store
This guy: *Marinates and bakes the chickpeas*
not the same AT ALL. homemade tastes SO much better than commercial. Try and you will see ;)
Exactly as my mother does it, you have to try it. it's so tasty!!!!!!!
I even eat it sometimes with french fries :)
I love hummus so much, you're a great cooker.
Chef
hummus is arabic
Guys, it’s okay to make YOUR version of ANY recipe no matter the place of origin. Being different on all levels, in every way no matter who, what, when, where or why is what makes the world go round. Who would have thought that hummus would create such division??....it’s just hummus. It’s really just hummus...
My hubby just love to eat it and I love to make hummus for him. Nice one, I will make this with yogurt next time.
I just made this recipe and its good! I just made a bit salty ,but still good
I love hummus thank you
Thanks for the video, can you please tell me what is it you added at very end when you plate the food. looks like Tahini or Yoghurt?
More tahini.
Sour cream.
Very different way to do than mine. Much more difficult too. But looks delicious
Yeeees I love hummus so much!!!! Thanks.
Shhhh im sticking with canned 🤫 The texture of the one you made looks so perfect but i dont think i can wait that long!!
For years I was soaking and boiling garbanzo beans, but now I agree, canned is as good.
omg this looks so amazing
thank you so much hummus is my life i could eat it all day everyday
so what are the ingredients and how u make it! i loved ur video because if the breaking of the bread.
You got an Israeli guy to make a Levantine Arab dish?
Food knows no borders
Ainsley it does...
Neither does Israel
Roxy456 ikr it's so messed up
Hummus is very popular in Israel either
🙄 I love how he acknowledged it's an Arab dish but then says in Israel. Oh buzzfeed sometimes you kill me
helwa mustafa Should they shut down all the Mexican restaurants that exist in the US?
KHCoasterKid We as in the US aren't occupying Mexico or trying to appropriate their culture in order to erase theirs... I just found it to be one a little tone deaf that he mentioned that it was an Arab dish but only mentioned Israel. But anyways....
Neither is Israel occupying anyone as there is no country that exists called Palestine and there never has been throughout the entirety of human history. Ironically it's the Arabic nations that have tried time and time and time and time again to erase the existence of Israel and its culture ever since it was founded. They get a pass though don't they...why exactly? Oh yeah, because they'll stop the oil flowing if people don't support them.
KHCoasterKid really? Well let me tell all the Palestinians I know that have a PALESTINIAN passport that it doesn't exist. If you're going to do this at least be factual. I dont have an issue with the Israeli people and actually feel like there could be a 2 state solution. But as long as people such as yourself miss the sarcasm, and want to have this ignorant rhetoric that Palestinians dont exist then no change can be made.
KHCoasterKid This May, Israelis will celebrate their 70th anniversary of "independence" - a grotesque euphemism for ethnic cleansing and the forcible establishment of the state of Israel on Palestinian land. The process entailed the killing of some 10,000 Palestinians, the expulsion of 750,000 more, and the destruction of 500 or so villages. soo??
of course no one would admit that their country (government) is ...
I m so into this!!!! Pls also show how to make that bread?? 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice tip with the baking soda! I wonder if this cuts down on cook time it doesn't mention cook times but I understand whhyyy
I love ❤️Hummus, some say it from Arabia, Lebanese, Morocco 🇲🇦, Turkey 🇹🇷, Greek ,Egypt 🇪🇬 or Israel 🇮🇱......its Hummus and it’s so good 😊
Greece 🇬🇷
Hummus literally means "Chickpeas". The name for this mashed chickpeas thing is Msabaha, they call it that in Syria because that's its origin. Neighbouring countries simply call it by its main ingredient = Chickpeas = Hummus. Most middle eastern things are thought to be Lebanese because Lebanese civil war refugees had 4 decades naturally labeling every middle eastern thing Lebanese.
Mashed Chickpeas with "Tahina", which is simply Sesame extract, and Garlic and Lemon juice is not "Chickpeas" it's an old Syrian food named Msabaha. And I bet Chinese and Indians made this food long before Syrians thought of it and influenced the Lavant, of which capital was Damascus, the capital of current Syria, by their commercial travels to the region, the final destination of the old silk road.
Informative 😊
Whoa, I normally just go straight to boiling, didn't know I was skipping so many steps! This hummus looks so creamy. 😍
His hummus recipe is unbelievable. We visit (one of his restaurants) Safta recently... remarkable. Just tried his recipe and it’s totally worth it.
@@sammcrawford1 thanks! I'm very excited to try it!
I love your videos! They seriously make me want food.
We've been eating hummus and making it my entire life, never have I ever seen this much baking soda used! and I don't know about this baking of the chickpeas either. And what is that thing that he added on top of it right before the olive oil??
I came here to find out just that
Me too haha
More tahini
Sour cream.
I like how everyone is fighting in the comments about where a chickpeas puree come from.
Egypt, the pronunciation of the dialect of Arabic in which the word "hummus" is is the Egyptian dialect of Arabic, also it was an Arab Egyptian dish before it spread to the Arabs of Levant
lmao and here i am just trying to learn the recipe
Finally! Some good hummus!
Sharing of the food is a wonderful feeling
That's how you do it, looks pretty good although I need to ask what's that white thing he's adding at 1:40? that's so weird lol never seen it with Hummus
its tahini
Tahini , it's a sesame paste that is commonly added to Hummus
No doesn’t look like tahini
@@JM-ww8vr Yeah it's white...maybe a yogurt type sauce? I'm also trying to figure it out!
I left as soon as I heard "arab restaurant in Israel".
Yes, it's true, apparently there are infact some arab restaurants in Israel. Weird right?
What white sauce you pour on top of the hummus when you started plating it? After it you pour extra virgin olive oil.
With tahini it give a nutty flavour. That's gonna elevate the dish even more
You might as well tell him to show us how to make some falafel
that's some nice garbage he'll ruin that too
Actually his falafel is amazing! Safta in Denver has the best falafel around.
"IsREali HuMmuS"
**slams head with a brick**
mo nowa Israeli Hummus comes from Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews.... the first of whom predate Arabic colonialism....
@@KeshetAylonit Yeah but Jews lived all over the world. Why did they not carry "their" Hummus elsewhere when traveling?
Eyad Arafat How freely available do you think chickpeas were in the middle of rural, poverty stricken Russia...
Eyad Arafat Also, Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews “carried their hummus with them” seeing as Israeli hummus comes from them.
@@KeshetAylonit
Were chickpeas never imported into European countries? If so, Jews could have imported it themselves.
I made hummus and it came out very well😄✌️
While serving, what's that white creamy thing, a dollop of which is added on the hummus before the olive oil drizzle?
Tahini
How does one grate a tomato
Natalie Alfera Like you grate cheese.
He means finely diced
I am speechless
with passion.
As a Jew, I’m proud that someone like Alon is enchanted by Arab- Levantine gastronomy, because everything that was on that table is representative of Arab or Palestinian food, not Israeli. On a second note, his hummus wouldn’t pass the test in a country like Lebanon where they master this type of cooking.. I got the chance to go study at the American U.of Beirut, a city that beats any place I’ve been to when it comes to eating and outing.. Lebanon and its people are most amazing and generous. We ought to work toward bringing our people closer starting by acknowledging ‘the other’.. we have so much in common. I love Arabs and their culture.
I doubt you're a Jew, otherwise you would know its at least as much Jewish cuisine as it is Arab food. Jews have been living in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon etc since at least 1000 years *earlier* than Arabs even arrived to these places.
@@interestingyoutubechannel1if being a Jew means being a Zionist, then i’m proud to say that i’m not a NAZi Zionist! I’m a Norwegian Jew not a fascist Nazi and ignorant Zionist who claims to be a Semite. No European Jew has the right to claim being a Semite, only the people of the Near East be it Jews, Christians or Muslims. I happen to be born a Jew, but i’m first a humanist and I support the People of Palestine, those who have been erased by the Fascist Zionists who came from Europe and elsewhere . They are disgusting Barbaric criminals!
Hummus is a popular Arab dish origin of this food from the city of Homs in Syria
what is that white cream that you put in the end on top of hummus, is it yogurt ?
Why is it that when we speak of hummus Israel is mentioned? Hummus is an arabic dish (a staple dish in Lebanon). Hummus in arabic means chickpeas; Israel has no claim whatsoever on this arabic dish...
yasuo broa Hummus was created in Eygpt
It's a Levantine dish, and where have Jews lived for the last 2500-3500 years? The Levant! The birthplace of hummus. When did Arabs arrive to these places? More than 1000-2000 years later. It's both our peoples food, Levantine. Therefore also Phoenician food, Aramean food etc.
they can claim everything like they claimed Palestine :/

It's both our peoples food, Levantine. Therefore also Phoenician food, Aramean food etc.
Does anyone know what was the white thing he poured on the hummus at the time of serving?
Chef what was that white paste you added in the well of hummus you created before you poured olive oil when you served it on the plate?
Probably tahini
Who is Alon? Get married to a Syrian lady to taste the real delicious Hummus!
I feel like there are easier steps to taste delicious hummus...
A G i agree with you
Nah palestinians make it #1
Alon is a Jewish name, meaning 'oak tree' in Hebrew. Hebrew being the only surviving indigenous Canaanite language of the Israel region - Levant. Arab restaurant in isreal..... You just lost me
naseerahvj Yeah man, it's a real thing (Shocker ha?) Not all Israelis hate Arabs :)
There are plenty of Arabs that live in Israel, and guess what? A lot of them prefer Israeli rule over the alternative.
IT ALSO GOES THE OTHER WAY! not all arabs hate israelis! yaaaaaaaaaaaay love love love
Their are thousands of Arabs markets, stores, and restaurant in Israel, because millions of Arabs are Israel citizens.
actually none of them prefer "israeli" rule. stop lying to yourself
Yay. Thank you!
What garnish did he add there? What was that sauce before the olive oil?
One day I brought hummus to a pool, i guess you could say i took a dip in the pool...haha im funny
this looks so good tho
I wish you make Arabic food made by Arabs next time!
Naglaa Ibrahim Mizrahi Jews have been eating this stuff for hundreds of years too. Open your mind a little.
really bitch. Our religon was the FIRST to make this dish, hummus is a arabic word for chickpeas, or let me guess JEWS made that word huh bitch yeah thats what i thought your probably shocked right now. search up hummus and then see does it say anything about jews. Ummm... NO loser
Siwar Jam Your religion didn't make this dish. Hummus is not a religious food.
Siwar Jam Arabs, both Muslim, Jewish, and Christian (it didn't matter their religion) ate this dish. Hummus is a Levantine dish. Not a religious food.
yeah keep telling yourself that even the word is arabic idiot
This is awesome but make a vid for those other dishes, they look fire🔥🔥🔥
What does he put on the hummus at the end of the vid? (Before the olive oil?)
Arab restaurant in Israel?? LMAOOO YALL WILDIN
Looks great! Is the white stuff on top yoghurt?
It's tahini, which is a sesame paste.
Shiri Yam Thankyou! 😄
What did they put on the hummus after plating it?
What did he add in centre at last point while serving ?
I'm sorry but for me hummus is a Lebanese dish.
Ki Wi actually Egyptian but we all eat it now
and you broke off from Syria. Which was smart
Levantine Arabic, it is one of the recipes Arabian chefs have developed under Islamic empires.
Nobody mentioning Greece or Morocco
u r correct
Sooo provocative video Tasty !! Next time bring someone Arab to do an ARAB dish ... specifically someone from Palestine 🇵🇸 #freepalestine
Surely this will free Palestine. Oh wait, it does jack sh*t. Hummus isn’t an Arab dish. At all. What. So. Ever. It’s a MENA and mediterranean dish, and I know this will break you’re brain, but when we were forced into diaspora, some of us landed in places like Iran, Lebanon, Greece, Turkey, Egypt etc. The majority of Jews in Israel are refugees or descendants of refugees from those countries. If you want to help Palestinian people, don’t whine about a common food for many, many, many people that aren’t Arab across the regions mentioned, and actually help them.
Keshet Aylonit may u always get scattered like grasshoppers with no country to go to 🙏🙏
Beesh Dos That’s a call for genocide there honey, and it doesn’t help your stance in the least. Unlike you, I hope that the Palestinian people can find a home, either within their own state, within another state, or any way without violence. Perhaps one day, historical fact won’t need to be brought up in the face of ingrained hatred, and our two peoples can actually live free of a conflict started by outside forces (Western European countries and other Arab countries). I hope you find peace within yourself, and are able to move past the colonialist mindset forced upon you.
@@KeshetAylonit Perhaps he was just calling out that you are clearly a pretentious a**hole. I dunno, maybe ?
What is the white thing in the center when he served it?? Any hummus specialist??
Hummus the Ramadan treat!!

Perfect timing for Ramadan! An arabian (ARABIAN, not Israeli!) classic!
Great Lebanese food!
What's on top of the hummus?
Palestine❤
Salasbil Bou and it will always be Palestine...... there is no such a thing called israel........

Salasbil Bou Palestine is a colonial term invented by the colonizer Romans - they used it against the indigenous people in the land.
Look it up, you geniuses.
jameson kennedy omg!! so nice of you for calling us geniuses. fuck yourself bitch
Siwar Jam The European Roman colonizers who occupied and murdered out the local indigenous people 2,000 years ago, renamed that land Palestina. It was called Israel and Judea before that.

I agree, the guy said Arabic restaurant in Israel. Since when.
I’d go to an Israeli restaurant, but not an arab restaurant. If I want an arab to prepare my food, I’ll go to frickin’ Syria, or something. Arabs make the worst falafel, and I’m sure their hummus sucks too.

what kill..?

Israeli and Israeli Arabs live pretty good with each other.
it's just the outsiders that don't know nothing because they know only what their leaders say. terrorist leaders.
Netanel Charlap excuse me but ive been to _palestine_ and the arabs living there are definitely not in good terms with the israelis. Do you know how bad it is it move from the west bank to Jerusalem? The israelis treat the arab like cattle its disgusting
