There is something to be said about being straight forward and blunt.

Two of the most impacting books I have ever read are 1) Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend. ( it is Christian based ) but I did not come from a Christian home and instead from a very traumatic childhood . This book taught me what boundaries actually are . I did not know what I did not know. Learning about boundaries has had the biggest impact on my life in every area but especially in relationships to others and myself. The second 2) favourite/ most helpful book is ‘The Grief Recovery Handbook’ by John James . I would not be alive today after my father died, if I did not have someone take me through this books guidance. I was so overcome with grief. It set me free from the heavy weight of grief and taught me how to go through it and process it fully so I could live again.

I was really impressed by Boundaries. Readers can always skip over the references to scripture (which I guess are really helpful to those who equate being Christian and being a doormat) and you still get a superior explanation.

How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk, plus Siblings Without Rivalry. These books were real eye-openers, modeling respectful communication skills that Id never witnessed before, while strengthening children's (or anyone, really!) trust in themselves. It showed me what it looks like to be curious about who each child was while helping them develop maturity- without being dictatorial, judgemental, or shaming.
Good list of books! I would suggest reading the Bible as well, especially Proverbs and Ecclesiastes which are full of very practical and helpful tips on relationships, finances, worketic, health, peace, meaningfulness etc.
I know an elderly person who owns a house that has a concrete basement, much like a bunker.
You would think that he would have used that basement to store his doomsday food and water, or some gold and silver bullion bars.
But no, he uses the basement to store his huge collection of 40,000 books collected over a period of 50 or more years.
This person is now over 80 years of age, and he's still hanging onto all his books!
Whenever you say "forgive me if I get emotional," I just want to say through the screen "It's okay!" ♥I'm so grateful for your channel, and all the life lessons you share so that we can find a better life. I just got back from a trip yesterday - usually when all my good habits fall apart - and for the first time I'm feeling productive and finding joy in all the little things I'm doing, not frustration in the little ways my schedule isn't "normal."

Yes, let's manifest! A book that I read last year that I needed was The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. It was essential at the time with certain situations happening in my life.

As a INFJ a and highly sensitive person--Knowing these two things has helped me understand that there is nothing wrong with me but I’m just wired differently and now really understand what my strengths are. What a great list. Well done.

INFJ here too. Knowing this info about myself has allowed me to not only understand myself better, but also set healthy boundaries in my relationships when people think they need to change some of my natural tendencies.
I'm an INFJ too! I read somewhere it's the rarest of the 16 personality types. I could be wrong.

Thank you so much for sharing this list. I too am a highly sensitive introvert and I find it hard to explain myself to others, so I tend to just avoid people. (Growing up I was called “weird” all the time and unfortunately I just accepted this lie.) I believe my youngest daughter has also inherited this trait. These books will be so helpful! (I also have a degree as a SLP!)

I have read several of these books (and will not comment on every book even though I am so descriptive and such).
It is interesting how many minimalists love Marie Kondo despite her not being one. I think, in a way, she is a lot like one though.
I read Atomic Habits recently because you recommended it, as did one other UA-camr I watch. It was pretty good. As a certified life coach, I feel it went in line with a lot of the training I had gone through. It was a nice reminder.
My mom and my one son are highly sensitive. I think I am sensitive and empathetic, but I don't know if I am highly sensitive. I have never read that book, but have looked into studies about it.
I am actually surprised you get mean comments on your channel. I don't understand why people want to be mean to anyone though. My mouth opened wide in shock in reading just the few you showed on this video.

Viktor Frankl is a really great mind to tap into. - Being a German myself, knowing about the history (I myself was born 1977 btw.), having loads of "Stolpersteine" in my hometown, the whole theme of "collective guilt" always is present to me and other people who are educated about the Nazi-Regime and the horrors that it caused. Now, what I love about Viktor Frankl is that he more than once publicly said (i.e. in public speeches which are here on UA-cam) that there is "no such thing as collective guilt". The first time I heard this, from a holocaust survivor (watching the mentioned UA-cam video), I started to cry. - Regarding highly sensitive being I can totally recommend the book "The Empath's Survival Guide" written by Judith Orloff. This book helped me a lot, personally. - Thank you for this video! - I am sure someone watching it or reading my comment here will benefit from your (or mine) book recommendations! - Keep up the great work! - Thumbs UP! - 👍👍

Ich bin auch eine Deutsche, geb 1954. Ich fühlte mich auch aufgrund der deutschen Historie schuldig, benahm mich freundlich im Ausland, damit ich nirgendwo negativ anstosse.....war immer tolerant und demokratisch zu Nichtdeutschen und mochte die Fröhlichkeit und Leichtigkeit der "Ausländer".

Erkenntnis, dass viele Deutsche sich schuldig fühlen und nur richtig fröhlich sein können beim Feiern mit Alkohol, mit wenig Ausnahmen. Aber dieser Beitrag gehört eigentlich nicht in diesen vlog.

I've read several of the books you mentioned, but I'm now looking forward to reading the others. One of the books that made a huge impact on me was When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Yes, let’s manifest! Marie Kondo’s book helped me so much when I retired and moved into a small home. Thanks for the recommendations - I am going to try Audible and listen to books while I garden! My children were subjected to trauma so I am very interested in the Deepest Well. One of the best books I’ve read is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I loved it so much that I bought two copies so I have one to lend out! 💗 One of the things I like best about you is your emotional vulnerability and empathy. 💗

Yes let's manifest - even for a retired 70 year old person. I love this topic and am looking forward to next weeks video. I have trouble reading then understanding or comprehend. Sadly I can't remember names of almost anything or anyone. I buy books, then have trouble letting go of them because I spent the money and didn't read the book. When walkman cassette or cd players were popular, I used them to learn about subjects or listen to music. I think audio books might be the way to go, even though I dislike paid subscriptions for 'entertainment'. I suppose it would be less expensive then buying books I don't read - or not buying books (cuz I know myself) and not educating myself. Thank you for taking time to expand our minds and hearts.

Okay I just got SO excited…I’ve watched a few of your videos before because I am a fellow minimalist & when you started talking in this video about not finding a job bc you didn’t want to work in a school or nursing home I was like “surely she’s not…” & then you said what is an SLP! Im an SLP too! Sooo amazing to be able to relate to a fellow SLP who is a minimalist as well! Im actually making a huge transition this coming year in my work to lessen my load & live more minimalistically (if that’s a word) with my occupation as well as my home life! So amazing to hear we have that in common ❤️
