Finished 'Wealth's Loyal Companion: The Uncharted Path to Prosperity' recently, and it's a standout read. It's not your typical finance book - it delves into creating a fulfilling life in all areas. Loved the mix of inspirational stories and clear, actionable advice. The emphasis on discipline and lifelong learning is a real eye-opener. An essential read for anyone wanting more than just financial success.

“The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo was the first book I read after many years of not reading anything. I was just trying to tidy up the apartment. And even though it’s about tidying up and minimalism, it lead me to read over 50 self-help book from 2016 until now. And I must say that I am a better person because of that. 😊

Funny thing happened when I was reading Atomic Habits.
James Clear in an anecdote mentions this book called "The EASYWAY to quit smoking" and I ran and got that book because I was really struggling with the awful habit of smoking.

As for life-changing books, Reading 12 Rules for Life was a reset for me. Understanding that I'm the author of my reality empowered me to get off autopilot. When I finished the book I went back to college at 27. I'm graduating with my bachelor's in 2 months with a job already lined up.

Hey Matt, a book that was very informative for me was “Never Split the Difference,” by Chris Voss. The book is focused mostly on negotiation but it has so many lessons about the purpose of communication. He has very insightful perspective on, “no.” He explores why people are so afraid of “no” and how it almost never means what we think it does. Happy reading!

Atomic Habits has been briliant helping me fight my ADHD that makes me lose focus on the important things, even getting depressed at some point. I've realized that staying away from my phone and replacing it with reading books and playing the piano has helped a lot already, I feel more in control of my thoughts as the days go by.

Genuine question. I also struggle with ADHD but I can’t read a book if my life depended on it. I always have to go back a page or two because i forget what I read. How do you do it?

    • @oSportify
      @oSportify 10 місяців тому

@@emanuelrivera94 I'm not sure how bad your ADHD is, but I used to have the same problem. I'm 24 and just recently started getting into books. I also thought to myself I'm not sure if I'll even enjoy reading or remember what I read. This was because in school they had us read fiction books I didn't care for, just to test us on it or have us do an assignment on it. Because of that I didn't think I could read. A couple months ago I bought a nonfiction book, and it was 430 pages, but I read it. I read maybe a couple of chapters a day or every other day until I finished it. And I was actually able to pay attention to the book, because I found it interesting. I think that's the solution, read books you think you'll enjoy. Also don't read too much, otherwise you might stop paying attention and forget what you read. Sometimes my mind does wanter off while I'm reading and I'll go back to reread, or I'll just notice it and start to focus again on what I'm reading. You can also try audiobooks, whether it's just listening to them or following along.

    • @kylecresswell0478

6 months later - but- same here man! I've gotta put myself in the zone. If I know my phone is around or I know there's something else that can take my mind away - I can't pay attention to save my life. I gotta sit on my bed/patio, leave everything else out of arm's reach and just "start". Starting is the hardest part for me but once I get through a few pages I can normally commit. I also find if I set goals, i.e. read one chapter tonight, it's easier to attain. Also: Silence. I can't read if there's people around or something playing in the background.
      Anyway best of luck!

I will always cherish Buddhism for Mothers, by Sarah Napthali. I read it when I was pregnant 15 years ago and it set the perfect tone for how I wanted to be as a mother: calm, empathetic, kind. Parenting is hard work and it’s not always easy to hold to these principles, but I felt lucky to have prepared myself for the task with this book.

I found Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman a great perspective on how we perceive time, less fear of missing out and more joy of missing out. Also How We Live Is How We Die by Pema Chodron, a Tibetan Buddhist perspective on the process of death and how we can change our relationship with it.

‘On Writing’ by Stephen King. Not just about his writing practice, but more importantly how his work is part of his life and not vice versa. Also both explicitly and implicitly throughout the book is the fact that if you have a good partner alongside you throughout, everything - writing and life, will be easier. “If (my wife) had suggested that any of the time I spent writing stories… was wasted time, I think a lot of the heart would have gone out of me…. Her support was constant, one of the few good things I could take as a given. And whenever I see a first novel dedicated to a wife (or husband), I smile and think *there’s someone who knows*.

One of my all time favorite books, and one that I keep sharing with anyone and everyone that is interested in the Consciousness evolution that we are experiencing, from the 'Information Age' to the 'Intuition Age', is Penney Peirce's "Leap of Perception". A brilliant book, with amazing insights that bring clarity to a lot of our bioenergetic changes and to how our perception processes are shifting, how the way we 'acquire' information is evolving from the traditional 'outside in' to the intuitive.

When I was 13, I was gifted '7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens' by Sean Covey, and I can honestly say it changed my life. Looking back as an adult, most of its content seems rather obvious, but it was definitely the book I needed when growing from a child into an adolescent. It taught me to be more observant to my surroundings, it made me actually reflect on what was important to me, it taught me to be a better listener, and to be fair to other people while also respecting my own boundaries.

Thanks for suggestions! I have actually read two of them! (Pease and Sethi)
The first books I read after high school where lots of books by Allan and Barbara Pease. It was such a eye-opener for me about reading others body language which I hadn't mastered.
Later, I don't know how I found it, but the book Quiet helped me understand that it's OK to not be talkative, and maybe gave me some reasurence or confidence about me begin a quiet and withdrawn person.
Now I just finished my biggest eye-opener so far: daughter detox. I never understood why I was and stil am a depressed and anxious person. Nothing bad really happened, but after reading this book I finally understood why and I can finally work on my recovery.
I really hope your suggestion "the obstacle is the way" may help me react more calmly than I do today which is straining for my close relations.

The book that first changed my life was, funnily enough, "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" by Marie Kondo. Even when I first read it I couldn't take all of its claims at face value, but it helped me develop a more minimalistic mindset. I don't consider myself a full-on minimalist, but it was so valuable for me to be given explicit directions for severing my emotional attachment to things in my life that really weren't serving me - and that hasn't been limited to just my possessions.

This one completely changed my career life this year and my views toward work ethics. I'm 29 years old & I have been following my false assumption of becoming something I want to do with my life during my early 20s and burned out because I used to have this old belief that Following something I love will set me free. Since I sucked at reading, I first listened to the audiobook & applied the lessons to pursuing a career path that challenges me & learned to appreciate more about the obstacles along the way as I get better at the skill I'm learning each day at work.
