@@C-Rageso true, this is definitely a horror comic in my opinion. This really solidifies the phrase, “there’s far more terrible things in this world than death.” The writer perfected the unpredictability, and capability of the villain in this series. He didn’t shy away from killing off our favorite characters nor did he leave us with complete hopelessness by the end of it. This was brilliant and as much as I’d love an adaptation, there’s just no way unless it’s a cartoon or an anime. Hollywood would completely destroy the essence of WHY there’s grotesque sex scenes either by taking them out or by focusing on them to the point it becomes mundane shock value. The only other piece of media I’ve read that scratches the brutality and hopelessness with a purpose is Battle Royale. There was a scene in that comic where a psycho chick was stabbing a kid to death in the middle of “the act” after seducing him. They went on a whole backstory as to how her psyche broke, it was pretty good, and still horrifying lol… Oh and I’d also like to note Hunger Games was the adaptation to Battle Royale. As we can see, it was severely watered down, although entertaining, barely scratched the surface of just how horrible a dystopian government holding kill games would look like. Just my opinion.
Might also want to look at Black Gas written by Warren Ellis a couple of years earlier I believe- similar idea but only a handful of issues and doesn't appear to have hit the popularity of Crossed
Nuclear power plants don't just blow up like that, it doesn't happen, especially in the usa. A steam explosion maybe, but it's going to be pretty localized. No blinding light burning peoples eyeballs. Those plants have so much redundant safety it's crazy, and there is so little fissile material present in the reactor at any given time.
Seems like an ignorant statement considering the wide differences between facilities. A guy set off a nuke by dropping a ratchet wrench on it inside a US Nike Base. Chernobyl also exploded.
Ive read the entire Crossed universe, all like 200+ish comics across everything from this to the 100+ series. these comments got me HOWLING, so ill pop this here for some of yall: 1: the movies been "getting made" for years. the only difference now is that someone has actively made announcements that they'll support Garth in actually getting this abomination made. For those who WANT a crossed movie, RIGHT NOW? go watch the Sadness. 2: ^ The sadness is actually only loosely based on the crossed - not even the comics themselves, JUST the concept. At the time of making the film, the director and writers had not actually read more than *some* of the first issue of crossed[what this video covers.] There is an intrerview out there where the man discusses this. 3: Yes its edgy and bad, look at the print date LOL. Its nearly 20 years old. it was properly shocking when it actually came out, we're just a bunch of asshats with access to way too much gross stuff now. 4: yeah this is no where near the worst[read: vulgar, rude, explicit, gorey, ect] issue, but what a bunch of people who have read it all CANT agree on is which one actually IS the worst issue. Solid toss up between family values and Psychopath, lotta folks seem to agree there at least. if you read all this and wanna know more i am hilariously well versed in this gross universe and a professional yapper.
Ive read the entire series too. Wish you were Here and some issues of badlands are some of the best this series has to offer. I was obsessed w this shit for a while while i worked at a local comic book store. I own a lot of issues & variant covers as well, this will always be a series close to me. Its literally horrifying when done right, like nothing ive read has ever made me feel the way Crossed does. Some manga yea, but Garth did his thing when he created the original series and plot lol
I was like 9 at the comic book store looking at the deadpool christmas special. When I tried to buy it the cashier said it was too mature for me and handed me a volume of crossed. After reading it in a nearby park I just left it there and I still think about those pages to this day
I read recently that a Crossed movie is in development with Ennis having finished the script. I don’t know how anyone could adapt this premise, let alone any of the stories already written, without venturing into territory that would make other films like Hostel seem tame by comparison. The only thing I can think of that can compare is maybe the adaptation of The Road, which included a scene of the Man witnessing a mother and child fleeing a group of cannibals, who catch up to them as the scene cuts away. I don’t think you could make an entire movie of scenes like this, just the sheer futility of survival. At least The Road had a glimmer of hope at the end.
I remember I was browsing google images at 3am. I was looking through Call of Duty zombies art work when I stumbled across a piece of Crossed cover art, which depicted the infected kids riding a saw down between a strung up person's groin. Curiosity got the better of me, and 15 year old me never felt the same. It made me a bit of a cynic. Personally, I'd much rather have zombies.
@Gantros Yeahhh. Garth Ennis has a bit of a problem. And I've heard that there are plans to make a Crossed film? I mean, that's insane. The Boys is one thing but this is a whole other ball park.
@@AnakinSkywakka I heard that too, even commented on it here, and don’t see a way to adapting it without stripping away a lot of the violations until it becomes a fast zombie movie like 28 Days Later. Ennis is even writing the script, and I don’t think that would be enough. I also doubt you could get any actor to sign onto a production like this, either.
When i first read crossed i was 17, at that time it was more to scratch a gore itch i had at the time, Crossed crossed boundaries i couldnt have imagined. But when i reread the series recently, each speech bubble and panels, ive found a more appreciation for the series, the positions and situations these survivors are put through, their bittersweet endings, layered characters, of course some stories are better than others (best one is issue #1 & WYWH & Axe Croseed guy, worst is that chick hiding underground and roleplaying house)
The concept is really interesting and some of the characterisation in the comics is done well, like the original being about what makes life worth living and the nun's being about inherent goodness. The gore is bad enough, but the sexual violence being shown graphically is just too much. It trivialises it. When you get to the hundredth or so instance it just truly feels like the author just wanted to draw r scenes with impunity. Like in the opening scene it's done well. It isn't graphic, you only see vague silhouettes and the horror is hinted at, which is far more impactful. Otherwise it just feels like the author getting kicks out of it. Intelligent zombies is such a cool concept so I was quite excited when I saw someone on reddit say this was the "scariest" zombie media ever. But sadly this series has the classic "make violence sexy" Garth Ennis thing. You read it and even hear descriptions of it and wonder "who is this for?" The zombies aren't quite zombie enough and there isn't really any lore on how the infection works (is it biowarfare gone wrong? are animals immune or not? Does the virus kill the host? does it infect the brain or adrenaline? etc), the writing is juvenile using a lot of swear words, the female characters are sexualised but also shown with such horrific gore that who on earth would find that attractive, there are romance plots that have no business being in there? Is the violence meant to be horrifying or funny? It's too gory and violent for me, and most people I hope. There are many panels which to be honest should not be protected under free speech and honestly feel illegal to me. How Garth Ennis is not completely shunned by the comic community I don't know. Him and Alan Moore are sickos.
I think Garth Ennis has become a worse and worse writer over time. Most of his work I really dislike and this was one of the final Comics that I had to read from him and it just makes my opinion of him as a writer more clear. I really believe that the only good thing he's done is Punisher MAX and I feel like that is because Marvel had to keep him on a leash but when he's off on his own he does just a little too much
Once you go past whole "rape and torture everything" gimmick it is just a generic zombie story. Only interesting part is fact that the "zombies" in question are actually sentient but its not utilized much beyond trying to out do itself at next edgy nonsense they are gonna do. I don't think it has much merit as a story beyond the rape gore porn.
To be fair, I love Punisher Max, but found Hitman quite lacklustre so you have a point. I’d read The Boys but I’m concerned it’s going to turn out to be pretty crap
How to survive this apocalypse: You don't only way you're surviving is if you go back in time and prepare to survive underground for the rest of your life or an unknown island.
This is the top of the iceberg that is the entire crossed universe, I have read almost all of it but by far this one is my favorite, there are some parts extremely long and boring, badlands and wish you were here, but over all this is one of my favorite comics series, I like gore
I loved the crossed anthology series after the original called Crossed badlands......the first story arc was in Scotland and had a character that claimed to be prince Harry but was horrifically scared around the face and coveted in bandages so noone could confirm it

@@arondardouri2324 Bro is a menace. I actually like what the crossed represent. I kind of see Crossed as the “Lobo” of zombie media. A parody of gritty, pretty run dry and boring zombie media. I know they’re not zombies but the virus spreads like a zombie plague and even gives the crossed some aspects of them. The seemingly high tolerance and pleasure response to pain, and the wish to spread the virus while also spreading death. I know my points are a stretch but that’s just how I see the Crossed.

While I appreciate that this is a comic, as someone currently pursuing a graduate degree in psychology, I find it hard to believe that such a conversation would occur regarding those six young children. I was intrigued by the concept of a virus that strips away humanity, but the author seems to overlook a crucial point: for a group-let's call it a tribe-to commit such an atrocity against six children, a complete loss of humanity would be necessary. In reality, the individual who even suggested such an idea would likely be ostracized or punished severely by the group. This dynamic that I describe that would happen in this scenario is a testament to why civilization survived from our primitive beginnings.

I want it to be real
I enjoyed the video. I just wish I didn't watch it before I was supposed to have dinner with my family. Honestly, though, im hooked. Great video!
Its definitely not like a typical zombie comic...😂
I've seen them described as "cannibal rape zombies" lol saw that years ago and it's stuck in my mind ever since whenever I see Crossed
@@C-Ragewhy tf do they gotta be so intelligent though 😭😭
@@dah_goofster probably to up the stakes. Think about the zombie movies that come out nowadays where they all say something like "the dead aren't the most dangerous threat, it's man". The amount of horrible things that something can do when it can think and act just like you... That's terrifying af. If they were just normal zombies we've gotten hundreds of variations of those for years
@@C-Rageso true, this is definitely a horror comic in my opinion. This really solidifies the phrase, “there’s far more terrible things in this world than death.”
The writer perfected the unpredictability, and capability of the villain in this series.
They went on a whole backstory as to how her psyche broke, it was pretty good, and still horrifying lol…
Oh and I’d also like to note Hunger Games was the adaptation to Battle Royale. As we can see, it was severely watered down, although entertaining, barely scratched the surface of just how horrible a dystopian government holding kill games would look like. Just my opinion.
I want it to be real

Nuclear power plants don't just blow up like that, it doesn't happen, especially in the usa. A steam explosion maybe, but it's going to be pretty localized. No blinding light burning peoples eyeballs. Those plants have so much redundant safety it's crazy, and there is so little fissile material present in the reactor at any given time.
Seems like an ignorant statement considering the wide differences between facilities.
A guy set off a nuke by dropping a ratchet wrench on it inside a US Nike Base.
Chernobyl also exploded.
Ive read the entire Crossed universe, all like 200+ish comics across everything from this to the 100+ series.
these comments got me HOWLING, so ill pop this here for some of yall:
1: the movies been "getting made" for years. the only difference now is that someone has actively made announcements that they'll support Garth in actually getting this abomination made.
Solid toss up between family values and Psychopath, lotta folks seem to agree there at least.
if you read all this and wanna know more i am hilariously well versed in this gross universe and a professional yapper.

they got mad at the kids for killing survivors, then turn around and kill the kids. What sense does that make???
Just Ennis things.

THE CRUST

QUICK! GET THE LOTION!
Yummy
do Transmetropolitan or Scalped next
Please do the rest of the series you have the best voice for it
The concept is really interesting and some of the characterisation in the comics is done well, like the original being about what makes life worth living and the nun's being about inherent goodness.
I really believe that the only good thing he's done is Punisher MAX and I feel like that is because Marvel had to keep him on a leash but when he's off on his own he does just a little too much
It seems like from a writing standpoint, he's never gotten past his 'edgy 14 year old cringelord that drinks Monster all day' phase.
Yeah, especially since you can tell he wrote most of this with one hand under his desk
@@Botar48 that isn't even my issue with it, my issue is that the overall message seems to be "you're stupid if you have empathy or hope"
To be fair, I love Punisher Max, but found Hitman quite lacklustre so you have a point.

I loved the crossed anthology series after the original called Crossed badlands......the first story arc was in Scotland and had a character that claimed to be prince Harry but was horrifically scared around the face and coveted in bandages so noone could confirm it

@@zack_0psgaming150 no way, what the hell is wrong with him
@@arondardouri2324 Bro is a menace.
Well some people have thoughts that aren’t always good so maybe whoever made this thought to write it down and wonder what the world would be like if this happened

Such a great series if you actually like horror. Like if The Walking Dead was actually good. Not every writer was good but the Ennis stuff was excellent. So was the Christos Gage, Si Spurrier and Alan Moore stuff.
Please take a look into badlands it takes more of a shotgun approach but garth had other writers take the lead but honestly crossed is a series that takes the human spirit to the extreme and shows our best and worst qualities
Intriguing.
Someone needs to do a mental analysis on Garth Ennis 😂
