    Should've included Uncanny X-Men #322, where Juggernaut got slugged from Canada to New York, and uttered the very first mention of the name "Onslaught".

    DAAAAAAAAAAAANG! I never knew the Onslaught saga was so BIG! My time with Marvel in the 2000's made it seem like the only event on Earth that really shook things up and made series acknowledge its existence was Civil War (World War Hulk got 2 issues of Ghost Rider to pay attention, but I don't recall anything else doing so). Turns out, Onslaught got everyone's attention AND resulted in the most anime conclusion to a story I've seen from Marvel (and I say that in a good way)! I can definitely see why Marvel vs Capcom based itself around Onslaught!
    Also love the bit where Doom tried playing Onslaught and the heroes' sacrifices to his advantage and then got literally dragged into helping out. Although it doesn't involve Reed directly and Iron Man isn't really a major enemy to him, I could kinda see this being a permanent death for Doom if they decided to kill the characters and keep it that way...Granted, the sheer number of characters lost probably wouldn't have made this sacrifice worthwhile, especially since a lot of these characters still had huge moments ahead of them in years after Onslaught.

      there are a few years since Mag's ripped his adamantium out and Tyler kidnapping him and trying to bond Cyber's adamantium to Wolvy. bloodties, Phalanx Covenant, age of apocolypse and more, by that time nearly all the best writers and artists had left marvel. disney wasnt paying Stan lee and getting ready to kick him out at the time

    • @Keldroc
      @Keldroc 5 місяців тому +11

      @@teiwinuiaarangi Completely wrong. Wolverine began to go feral because his healing factor was unchecked and his mutation became more extreme without the adamantium. The incident with Cyber's adamantium had nothing to do with that, he was already becoming feral and ape-like before that. And your Disney line is complete nonsense, because Disney didn't have anything to do with Marvel then. Stan Lee stepped back from regular editorial work years before Fatal Attractions, and was being paid a million dollars a year by Marvel as essentially a consultant for most of the '90s. He was absolutely being paid, and Disney had nothing to do with it. Marvel was bought by Disney in 2009, long after Lee had left.

    In hindsight, the only problem with this Saga was it coming off the Heels of AOA which was peak Marvel imo but it doesn't feel as fleshed out as AOA probably due to all the drama going on in Marvel at the time like the bankruptcy etc and as a kid at the time and I could be massively bias I admit as AOA was the first proper SAGA i collected every issue for with my pocket money and at the time it did genuinely feel like Marvel had raised the stakes even more. 94-98 Marvel was a crazy rollercoaster to grow up through as a kid. There's no reason to be going in depth on the fringe tie in stuff like what Spider-Man got up to during Onslaught, when you're skipping the months of issues of X-titles that were devoted to building up Onslaught. The best parts of the story were when Onslaught was mysterious

    18:16 one thing of note, this recording is found by Bishop in Uncanny X-Men #287 during a flashback. Bishop and his XSE squad find this recording and learn that somebody betrayed the X-Men. Bishop then went to the past to catch Trevor Fitzroy, and then joined the X-Men to find who betrayed them.
    He suspects Gambit for awhile, but we learn here that it was Xavier the entire time. He absorbs the blast that would have killed the X-Men, thereby preventing his own future from ever happening.
    But stupid writers ignored that and turned him into a villain during Messiah CompleX anyway even though he prevented his future from happening. Oh well.

    I started collecting this series in high school, the animated series for Batman, The X-Men and Spider-Man started a resurgence in interest in comics. I didn’t get too far in before I had to stop. The most memorable thing was the art. I absolutely fell in love with the art along with the story. It’s great that we live in an age where people who are passionate about these stories translate into a video like as a way of binging. Thank you so much for making this video. It’s much appreciated. 🫡💪🤌

      Agreed. This comment section is actually the first time I'm hearing of it being even average - it's chaotic with artwork all over the place and characters just being ridiculous for the sake of newest kid on the block at the time which was Onslaught.

      @@RickyfromAZ indeed and honestly trying to adapt this storyline for X-Men 97 is going to be a challenge but maybe with this creative team they could pull it off and do it ten times better then the comics ever did at least in my opinion.

    The problem with the whole Onslaught thing and him being the traitor that killed the X-men was it was too transparent and obvious. At the time, during the Jean Grey encounter, allyou had to do is ask " who would be most shocking to find out being the X-traitor. First thought is Cyclops, next thougt is Professor X. Wow Professir X is Onslaught and the X-traitor ... SHOCKING

      I read those comics in real time in 1996. And nobody saw it coming. I only guessed it at the last moment, just before the reveal, because of the X-Men tv show about Charles' astral projection gone crazy. It was unimaginable at the time.

    • @Keldroc
      @Keldroc 5 місяців тому +1

      Completely wrong, speaking as someone who was there and actively part of the fandom. Absolutely nobody saw that coming at the time. People had speculated who the X-Traitor was for years, and Xavier was never a candidate anyone took seriously or discussed in any real detail. If Marvel editorial hadn't chickened out at the last minute and decided to pin Onslaught on Magneto instead of the original idea that it was very much just Xavier's true personality that had been suppressed for the entire history of the Marvel Universe, this would be considered one of the most shocking and pivotal reveals in the history of superhero comics. Instead it was just another detour before snapping everything back to status quo a couple years later.
