Shane, What a great yard sale day you and your daughter had and Good instincts too. The candle holder comes apart for ease in cleaning, as the servants could split up the task of polishing, reducing the time spent. This ol' gal (me) learned a little silver cleaning trick along the way. Put some water on to boil first, Put the item to be cleaned into an aluminum pan, Large disposable roasting pans from the dollar store works well for this, completely cover the item/s to be cleaned, with baking soda, then pour the Boiling water over the contents of the pan. Within a couple minutes the silver is brilliantly clean. Some items may need a second cleaning. Don't let the silver sit in the solution more than a few moments, particularly if it is not solid silver, as it may eat into the surface. (Sometimes I pour a half cup or so of vinegar over the solution to finish it off). It works on rocks as well. Maybe do a vid, experimenting with cleaning different items? : )
Love that you're starting to show more candid yard sale footage! Keep up the great work Shane, you're inspiring me to record some treasure hunting videos of my own!
I love that big piece of obsidian in that pail of rocks. I'm a sucker for obsidian for some weird reason, I keep trying to find someone willing to cut and polish a piece for me. (the green/black glass, like any stone the impurities shift the color, green is actually pretty rare in most places. Obsidian is made by lava cooling slowly) That big piece of amethyst might be worth some money if it was cut and polished, it looks pretty clear. (the purple one)
I am loving these yard sale/rare find hunting videos! There is definitely still a huge market for cards like Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic The Gathering on Ebay. Even if most of the cards aren't the most valuable right now, some collectors will buy lots just in case they gain value over time. Since Pokemon cards are extremely popular right now (again), you may just have a few bidders fighting over them!
14:07 is a piece of natural flint I believe, I'd take those clay marbles out of the rocks they can get crushed in there. Clay marbles are pre-1900's they started using glass later in the 1900's. Orginal clay marbles have value. That candle holder is cool, I'd just put candles in it. lol. Thanks for sharing, cool video!
I used to buy and sell a lot of books online on Ebay - sold stuff all over the World some very rare books too - it's tricky though because condition is everything to a collector - and identifying a first edition is essential - abebooks website is good for getting ideas on what books are valuable by seeing what others are asking - but again condition is everything - every flaw mark damage inscriptions etc have to be described when you are listing....! - Good luck....!
I'm only 15 years old but I went to the pokemon world championships a couple years back and think you might find this information useful. Most vendors will buy cards for 3 c a piece and if they are holo they will go for 5 c. Most of the cards that you have would be 3 c and not the dollar that you are hoping. With that being said, people usually only buy a set of cards if they are collectors and if the cards are very old. The big cards in the back of the binder can be purchased with 10 card packs at the store for about $10 and are completely worthless when it comes to competitive play and would just be decorations. I didn't catch exactly what you paid overall but it looked like the only cards that were actually valuable were the two in the front.
I like the yard sale finds and for sale on EBay angle. Cool to see what they brought. Hope 2021 is a good one for you Shane and everyone out there ! I sell at the flea market but i need to go to more yard sales. They aren't great my way though in my experience.
I loved that lump of obsidian from your bucket, although my interest is in 60's and 70s vintage furniture since my retirement, young Molly went bananas at those Pokemon cards! She was sat here squealing at some of the stuff you passed up! 😂 We loved your video Shane. Thank you so much! ~Wendi
So looks like you look for rocks at yard sales too!👍 I love finding rough gemstone material at yard sales.😁 the greenish color rock is man-made, I believe it is slag from smelting metal out of ore. Maybe copper or gold?🤔
We full time resale. We would not have paid more than $15 for the candelabra. We have found weighted pieces at yard sales and auctions but for $2-$5 and made some good money on them. About 2 months ago we came across some sterling flatware for $4 and sold it on eBay for $466. We general research the items before we buy them but not always. Making a profit is good for sure but we like to at least triple our investment. Thank you for sharing.
You definitely could’ve got more for the candlestick than 45. Considering what eBay takes that’s actually a terrible profit. And 46 for the Pokémon wasn’t great- seems like you might have had more success selling them separately on BIN.
I've only ever been to 1 yard sale in the states! I paid 1 dollar, for 1 ring in sterling silver with a 16k gold band inlay and the other ring in solid silver. Loved the experience
The guy at golden detectors said to say hi. I was in there today after having a great day prospecting on clear creek. I finally found a spot with lots of gold. Very small but lots and lots of it. Love all your videos man!
I think you'll make a max of 180 dollars off the cards. Selling them in bulk usually takes a bit off the value. Next time, it may be best if you sell anything above 5 dollars individually, and then sell the rest as bulk. Most people who buy these cards on ebay buy them to use in decks and are looking for specific cards, so bulk listings are usually unappealing to them. Hopefully I am wrong though, and you get more than 200 for it :). Best of luck!
"Yard Sale Treasure Hunt" app for Iphone. It gets all the craigslist sales and puts them into an app. You can even search it for keywords like "silver" or "Jewelry" to narrow down your searches.
Almost infinite! Solid silver generally contains over 1000 times more silver than silver plate. If you mean weighted vs solid, then the difference would likely be closer to ten or twenty times more.
FYI when it comes to books if there is no copyright date on the inside cover or first few pages that means it’s a first edition and that’s where the money is back to the videoAs far as the green colored glass type rock it looks like obsidian to me if it is green obsidian its rare. back to the video nice finds and a good time thx for sharing see you on the next one👍🏻👊🏻
For the cards, send the lesser value ones to a online store. They pay less than retail but you send one package out and get one check back. trollandtoad and coolstuffinc are two of the ones I use.
Tell Heather, nice gams!! Shane, I will send you $10 cash for those three books and I will add four Arizona crystals. Say, YES! on this video and I will send the cash and crystals out immediately. ABATW!!
