      @@GatewoodBrown I wouldn't say we're experts or anything but we could for sure give you some tips on how to catch a few fish while you're doing these stretches around New Braunfels, we actually catch quite a few out of that same stretch you did from gruene to the park, most of the time we go all the way down the the bridge under 35 though.

Only things we ask is to reciprecate our kindness, pick up your trash, and respect our land. Somthing id like to add for your viewers is to make sure you are not launching your yaks on private property. Where yall launched is absolutely correct! Rockin R across the river and the vacant lot/ river bank accross the street are technically private property.. sucks unfortunately but we manage! But most importantly, take the trip slooooow! Hi Gatewood. Thanks for producing another wonderful video. My girlfriend and I are planning to visit Texas to go kayaking post Covid because of you. If I might offer one bit of advice: you might consider putting a transition shot between far and near profile shots when you’re speaking to the camera. The abrupt zooms are a bit disconcerting. It adds a feeling of intensity to what is otherwise a very soothing presentation style. With that said, we love your videos and always look forward to the next installment. Hope you’re keeping safe and well.

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 роки тому +1

      Hey man it’s my pleasure! Make sure to monitor flow rates before you pick a river. Target something at or above 100cfs in the hill country. Yeah the whole editing process is always a work in progress. Thanks for the pro tip! The zoom in add emphasis and is usually intentional or to break up a long talking head clip

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 роки тому +1

      That does sound like a nice setup. San Marcos seems to always be flowing well but I think a lot of their parks are closed at the moment. Not that it shuts down the river but just an interesting side note

    • @jpgforza
      @jpgforza 4 роки тому +2

      @@MichaelMiddletonTBH Hey Michael, when you paddled from Staples to Fentress, did you park at the Staples dam? I'm trying to plan a trip down that way but from Google earth, it looks like there isn't a ton of parking at the bridges in Staples.

    • @MichaelMiddletonTBH
      @MichaelMiddletonTBH 4 роки тому +2

      Travis Daves yes, I parked at a “wide spot” near the bridge, along with a couple other vehicles.
      There is a dam immediately below the bridge and we had to carry our gear and drop over a wall. That is a private (but vacant) house. They have signs indicating no parking but a lot of people drop off there and I’ve never had any trouble. I just unload and then park on the side of the road.

Real remote hill country. You’d more likely get to see a hog or bob cat than person. Even more rare is the elusive Panther. It’s unreal when you see them out in the wild.

    Can you please do a full list of rivers in Texas you have done/recommend? Along with put in/take out locations? Maybe do YT videos on it so you have a financial benefit. Could even take affiliate profits for linking people on your YT to local guide outfits to help with making it worth your time. It is difficult to find good info in a central location.

      So I’ve toyed around with how to do that for years and I think it’s something I may pursue in 2025. Fully mapped out with trip info and guidance that would make it a very compelling thing to have available to the community. Education about flow rates and laws have to be a part of it though so that will take time

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 роки тому

      Thanks George! Well, I think there’s a line between being rough on nice gear and using nice equipment for rough situations. If it’s low and I know my paddle will get beat up on rocks I’ll bring a $80 fiberglass paddle. But 90% of the time my nice carbon fiber paddles do just fine even if you bump rocks every now and again.

      @@loganmcdowell7234 oh heck yeah. Arkansas is where it’s at right now. They’re all pumping up there! Also the Illinois river in tahlequa is fantastic for a 3 day first trip. It’s a true ozark classic with nothing too technical

      They might be out of stock! A lot of manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand right now. They might also be discontinuing the kayak but that would surprise me

    Do you recommend Oru Kayaks for Guadalupe River?

      I would not. Those rocks and rapids would destroy an oru kayak unfortunately

    Why dont you push with your feet when you paddle?

    • @GatewoodBrown
      @GatewoodBrown  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Brandon! I think I understand your question, and the short answer is that I keep both feet pressured against the legs during rapids. On flatwater I think proper technique is the change pressure on each foot with every paddle stroke. I just do what works for me!

      Its just a means to help with getting more power from your core to stroke...just couldn't see on vid so that's why I wanted to ask since it really does help. I notice a lot of people don't use that to their advantage and can get quite tired when doing something like the Texas 100K paddle down the Colorado River in Austin. Thanks for clarifying. Am not the kayak police lol
