I have dealt with the old box was empty scam myself. Easy way to win this one. ALWAYS get your item weighed at the P.O. don't just drop off, get a receipt. They weigh each item. and it will be on receipt. I mailed an old radio. it weighed almost 7 lbs. Customer said box arrived empty. I asked " the box was completely empty, no packaging, no bubble wrap?" Customer stated, "nothing at all". Showed ebay the post office receipt that the package weighed 6 lb 10 oz A pure empty corrugated box 17x14x12 does not weigh almost 7 lbs. Ebay sided with me.

There is always an uptick in scams this time of year. Then closer to Christmas the late shoppers wanting guaranteed ship dates. Some years I just put my shop on vacation on USPS last ship day.
I need to change my prices on media mail. It keeps going up and up and up, as well as everything else in my life. If I overcharge on shipping, I always send them a refund on the overage, but in the 26 years I have done this, sending a refund, not one single person has mentioned it. Makes me think I should just keep the extra postage. I love Snoop Dogg too! :)
Thanks for that advice. I knew USPS was raising prices again and just when I was so happy with Ground Advantage. I've shipped off a few things FedEx Ground. Going to go through my listings and raise shipping fees.
You’re right- the guy just wanted 20 bucks. Sometimes I just want to make the point and have them send it back! I had one the other day that I didn’t ship fast as normal and eBay cancelled the order as they thought it was a scam- and they sent me a message that buyer had closed their account and so eBay cancelled their order. When it smells fishy-it’s probably is!
Had the exact same problem with a Monster buyer. I had them send it back and it worked properly so they were trying to scam for the most part. No partial refunds, except for shipping cost like you did because it's going to be the same cost either way. All my problems usually come from Florida buyers.
Speaking of refunding over paid shipping . I watch a UA-camr who also sells on eBay she inflates the shipping cost in order to make additional profit, it's not profit in her eyes she said it's to cover costs related to shipping. Items like boxes or mailers would be a business expense at the end of the year, right? Can you charge the buyer and then claim it as a business expense.
I'm always make sure that my shipping isn't losing me money. I want to make a few bucks on shipping. You can't just charge them extra. You just have to know exactly what your costs are and pad it a bit.
Scammed twice as new seller…First time over $300 item so told buyer to return item. They claimed to return but their proof showed they returned to an eBay office in California. I was in Illinois at that time. I was forced to refund by eBay and PayPal. Too green to know better. But I still remember the handle name and address of that shady buyer. Second time was an under $20 item, I just refunded buyer and told them to donate item to a local charity/thrift store. Would handle differently now. These were both years ago. But great lessons learned.
When I first started on Ebay, I got negative feedback from a girl who purchased the book at midnight on Friday night. On Saturday morning at 6am, only 6 hours later, I got negative feedback that said, "Still waitin' on my book!"
I had this exact scam happen to me on a very expensive vintage radio. The flip was still phenomenal but they definitely scammed me for a discount afterwards and you basically have no recourse other than to eat the shipping fee. It’s sad but I try but to let this kind of thing ruin the hobby for me
On Poshmark I felt scammed. She said my item arrived damaged and wanted to take it to a jeweler. Said she would get an estimate. I said I would rather get it back and fix it myself. She then said the jeweler fixed it. And Poshmark gave her her money back and let me keep the sale as well. But my item was new, no damage and well packaged. Definitely think she scammed Poshmark into a free necklace.

I think Ebay needs to automatically side with the seller when words like 'fair' and ' reasonable' are used. Obvious scam!! Can you or did you report the person? Also, definitely block him.
You need to be Top Rated Plus to get more protection from Ebay. The old school sellers are very outdated, they are scared of free shipping and free return, and 1 business handling process.
Welcome to 4th quarter on eBay! It's like everywhere else, only difference is it's 10x worse. 3 disputed payments from brand new accounts after ordering brand new products from me. Money on hold, Yada Yada....yeah, typical eBay 4th Quart. Glad nothing has changed...lol
Sold an antique French mirror. Packaged a package in a package and super well bubble wrapped. Buyer messaged that one of the finials was shattered and also was missing from the box . Mind you the finials are made of heavy brass, so pretty difficult to shatter, also had double wrapped them with bubble. So tell me how can a finial be shattered but the mirror is still intact? I messaged back asking if the box was damaged. Never heard back from them.
I could only imagine being a seller on Ebay. Ive never sold on the bay but I do know that they favor the buyer even when they shouldnt. I do all of my business on FB Marketplace and Craigslist. Mostly local pickup sales. Im literally afraid to use shipping because I think I will be scammed 100%. Too many people are playing scam games these days.
Definitely block this scammer so that you don't have to deal with them again. But in the future I would say don't budge. Either they return the item or no refund. Make some rare exceptions if you feel like their story is possible but don't make it a habit otherwise people will keep doing it to others.
I had a guy open a return on a lightweight jacket. He sent back a pair of jeans. I sent the jeans back to him and paid for that. eBay gave him a full refund and then he never sent the jacket back. So annoying.
Hi we are a two-man eBay (they call us) power buyer as one place, we are specialized buyers not related to consumer goods would say we have had to return an item or two out of about a thousand of items bought here each year for over a decade now, due to bad lazy packaging by the seller. Never had a package lost, always encourage the seller to over package it and we will happily pay for it, if need be, the items we buy are often one of a kind so finding another is highly unlikely It is nice to hear the seller's side. Guess you need to have an amount for losses and write-offs. Thank you for sharing your story with us from a seller's point of view, happy hunting friend you look to enjoy the hunt very much. Lance. Bible or for anything, buy it use it and if you like writing in it on it whatever is my thought.
Well, it's probably best when you have a "rule" for yourself what to do when this happens. You can say for example that your rule is when something is wrong you want the item returned and the money returned as you don't like the idea that something is wrong with what you sold and you don't want to risk it breaks down again after repair(s). Having said that, I think you did it in a way cat fishers use...
I sold 4 sealed packs of vintage Marvel cards and the scammer said that after opening them they were stuck together. Since these were the first packs I sold out of a large lot I picked up I accepted the return with some hesitations. I got all of the cards back but they weren’t stuck together and the funny thing was some packs had duplicate cards and were missing some chase cards. They obviously went through the sets and switched the cards out for what they wanted. I reported this to eBay and they had me sign a letter stating that the item wasn’t returned as it was sold. I got all of my money back and now have 4 sets of opened cards. I hope they kicked the buyer out.
So timely. I just got home and saw your vid pop up whilst looking at a message from eBay about a refund I've so considerately extended. I had a listing of 12 semi different versions of an item with quantity of 6 each. One person bought all 6 of one type. I messaged asking if they perhaps made an error so we could fix before it shipped. No response. The next day, I asked again. No response. So the following day I shipped so not to be in violation with shipping time. Yeah, you know it. They apparently went direct to eBay, getting FULL refund and keeping everything. Did I have better options? I've been doing this less than a year
It was my first CD sale. Very rare, exoensiive kinescope of a TV show -- was returned, saying it was defective. Got it back, played all 12 hrs -- it's a KINE, for god's sake. Later, found him reselling a copy. Thief
@@goldenstatepicker That's true...may waste more than twenty bucks time trying to dick that person around back. After all it is you that has pounded the notion of those scammers are a small feckless fraction of doing biz on eBay so why let it ruin making thousands net/net.
I get these guys quite a bit asking for partial refunds, I do what you do I look at what it will cost to ship it back, and look at everything. To me it’s not worth getting a negative review over $20
Bible study is a thing. Love it and hearing everyone’s interpretation of what they get is amazing. Would not write in my family bible but a wide margin is desirable for it.
The foot is no longer attached?? Did you put in the description that it was an amputee? Maybe UPS opened it up, swapped it out for an identical unit they had sitting around, sealed it back up again shipped it on its way. 😂
Great stuff Mike. Just picked up my first bible, sealed Portuguese to English, picked it for a buck on Ebay for $33! All your fault! :) My Brother in law and sister in law have a place in Swansboro NC just north of Camp Lejeune. We rent beach houses at Ocean Isle beach with my Brother and his family every couple of years. The darn real estate in NC has gone crazy! Love the coastal area. Thanks!

Been selling on ebay for over 14 years I don't even sell electronics anymore hardly they'll call an old typewriter as Having rusty parts in it when it doesn't. and they'll even show pictures and you can't even see any rusting yet they call it that it's rusty And ebay goes right along with them because it's easier for them to agree I'm sure You can say it's new old stock but the little telephone card is missing I wonder who took it out of there and they'll say it's not new whole stock because the telephone card is missing even after you told them it was missing they buy stuff and they realize they overspent so what do they send back whatever they don't really need sorry for the rant eagle voice typing
So he sent the power-conditioner back ? Does sound like a gouging scam IMO. Electrics can work lose internally in transit. The clicking could be indicative of an internal short-protection cut-out thing going on
@@goldenstatepicker Very relatable. Here in th UK (small country) you can send a big 70 lb box anywhere UK, tracked, for equivalent of 22 US dollars. Very approximately, how much was your 1-way delivery to customer, if you don't mind me asking ?
Definitely seems a bit suspicious. Understand the desire to just move on. Someone made a purchase at my store and then after purchasing messaged me asking me to send to a different address. It is my understanding that this gives them the opportunity to file an Item Not Received and you are no longer covered by seller protections because you sent it to the "wrong" address. I told them due to eBay's rules it was too late for me to change the address it was being sent to. My recommendation to them was to ask to cancel the sale and that they would need to fix the address on their end, in their own eBay account and then re purchase if they wanted to. Not sure if they were trying to scam or not but we have to protect ourselves as sellers.
yeah its a typical scam. i have had one or two of those in 4 years. I usually tell them to send it back. I have the policy for myself to make them send it back.
One of my 1st orders this happened to me and I offered a full refund upon return of the item. He wanted like 10$ and I told him I could do a full refund or nothing and the scammer never sent it back 😅😅
U got scammed. Something similar happened to me it was kind of my fault because I put the wrong year of manufacturing but the price was right. I went through the other ads after. And half the sellers had the wrong year as well, but we all were around the same price. Here's what happened so buyer purchased a toy off me. I made sure I found it then purchased and printed the posting label but I don't post to the afternoon. The eBay uploads the tracking number straight away. Within minutes I get this message which is about two paragraphs long. Starting out with how I con him, how he should just get a refund, going into a big story how it's unfair and blah blah blah ended with he wanted to b compensate (not in those words) I checked his profile on eBay and he was a big toy seller. So I gave him a refund as instructed by buyer. Send him a message saying I refunded you as requested and blocked him. I cancel the postage and got my funds back, cheers Graham
I got a Rick an Marty dvd that literally would only play 3 of the episodes and wouldn't keep going through the episodes. They gave me a refund and I bought a brand new copy sealed again. But they let me keep the messed up dvd seasons so I just kept it. I forget which one is messed up and sometimes I watch it an get mad lol but I didn't wanna scam anybody. I've ordered many packages and some co e more damaged then you thought cases crushed rips ..only time I got scammed was a "dhs " hubcap for my deville but it was a dts centercap instead. I told them I didn't pay 30 for a mismatched ugly cap and because dts was in the description hidden after the title dhs and so they said return it but I was working that whole week and it was a Sunday. I had plans for Thanksgiving that whole week after I didn't know how to ship either lol he live in Philadelphia or something so I just kept it an they got my money. Oh well my rims look horrible 😂
Scammers are definitely unfortunate. I don't have nearly as much feedback as you. I still get them here and there. I probably would have responded the same to the buyer. I assume you probably blocked the buyer, just curious if you reported them to eBay?
Yup…. This has happened to me. Not exactly the same but yeah. It’s frustrating because the scammer is praying on the fact that they “know” they can just send it back as item not describe and get all their money back. So you know they have nothing to lose. Alls they have to do is craft it in a way that they are almost talking to you in code saying “ I’m getting some or all of my money back” … some times you just gotta take the slap to the face and keep rolling.
$20 was reasonable and just wanted free shipping and that is a very easy scam but KARMA will get them on that one day. I probably would have refund that amount as well for the price of the return would have been the same.
The reason I asked is because I got scammed by someone with only 4 purchases on his record. Lied about everything regarding the item and Ebay sided with him. He closed his account soon after.
I block every that does pay, that returns items, or is psycho! Since doing this it’s saved me.. I have issues with a buyer that throws $3 offers at $50 items I blocked twice as they created a new account .. either kids or a real nut job😉
Pff, tough to keep up for boomers. Imagine my kids trying to grow up in this mess. Unlike most boomers who are tight as hell. I'm helping my kids financially where I can.
if rhe buyer claoms some noise would it be possible to ask for a video? I would also mark the item with a special sticker so you know it is your item and not another one thats broken... which review are you giving the scammer?
Why not tell the buyer no partial refunds? Tell him to send it back or keep it. Now he will just keep trying with other sellers. Thanks bro. That was dumb

My opinion is that the word is holy, not the book or the pages. If it helps you learn it, then write all over it. Reselling it obviously is not as profitable, but morally, I don't have a problem with writing in a Bible. Even though I do in many aspects, we shouldn't worship earthly things. The pages can be burned but the word is forever.
I just had someone buy this $69 camera. I look to see who. The username is literally new, like it was just created that day. No feedback. Skeptical already. I messaged the buyer to explain I forgot to mention that it does not come with a memory card and USB cable when I did some revisions. Cricket. I ship it out the next day immediately after the buyer messaged me hi, can you ship it out to a different address, not even a response to my first message I said sorry, I've already shipped it out again, no response I call eBay bring it up to their attention about possible fraud and it's been noted. Call me paranoid but I wasn't born yesterday. Only time will tell now and waiting how this will play out. What ya'll think?
Obvious scam. I would’ve shut that conversation down at the start with send back using the eBay return process. I’ll eat the shipping costs and risk negative feedback.
The Bible is God's message to man. It's not a talisman or good luck charm. It's not a status symbol for religious leaders or politicians to hold up to imply their righteousness or piety! It is supposed to be read carefully, studied, dissected and digested like any educational textbook. For any true student of the Bible, it should be highlighted, with notations and cross references. People who criticize it have never read it and certainly never studied it.

Yes, just like you. Sometimes I'll just say send it back. Its twisted game they play.
Great video
Thanks for the knowledge 😁
I would like to sell some nice high end vintage items but i just can't take loosing an item for nothing...
Yep, I have had these types of scams. Some people want everything for free.
That's a bit weird. At least that was the end of it.
Thanks again Mike.
I can tell you 5 years full time and only a handful of scams. 99.999% are good transactions.
@@goldenstatepicker Thats actually a surprise to me. And good to hear.
Always have them return. All monies spent for shipping labels including return shipping is a write off on your taxes so it’s not lost.
I almost always do but this was between a rock and a hard place.
Definitely block this scammer so that you don't have to deal with them again. But in the future I would say don't budge. Either they return the item or no refund. Make some rare exceptions if you feel like their story is possible but don't make it a habit otherwise people will keep doing it to others.
95% of the time I have them send it back. This is one of those OTHER cases.
They use three phase motors over there so they don’t run off of our grid. You have to use a transformer.
I had a guy open a return on a lightweight jacket. He sent back a pair of jeans. I sent the jeans back to him and paid for that. eBay gave him a full refund and then he never sent the jacket back. So annoying.
Great video I have 2 Bibles and I always write in my Bible
Thanks so much for the insight and watching my channel.
I tell them to start a return and then I say NOTHING!
So many cheats. Just crazy
Oh hell no. I would have paid for the return versus enabling that buyer to continue scamming people.
Sometimes I don't it just a decision I made. 95% of the time I don't and take it back.
Hey Mike!
A Tribe Called Quest was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently.
Hence your Sold Item 😎👍🏼
Little did I know until now. Thanks for the info.
I've been doing this less than a year
It's a tough call. Your intuition was correct. I sometimes go something wrong with buyer address and then block. It's a grey area.
@@goldenstatepicker Thanks! I value real world advice form the OGs
I would have stuck to my guns , and said just ship it back and full refund would be issued with your shipping fee included, that is it !!
95% of the time I do. Sometimes it is a no win and I will side with the money.
It was my first CD sale. Very rare, exoensiive kinescope of a TV show -- was returned, saying it was defective. Got it back, played all 12 hrs -- it's a KINE, for god's sake. Later, found him reselling a copy. Thief
There are just so many.
You should have bought their copy and sent it back to thems assholes claiming INAD.
I had a discount scammer in Canada before international shipping changed and she was messaging me. I also had to send her $20. Ugh.
On that Monster unit... can't you have them get a refund for shipping damage? That way their scam escalates to postal fraud.
Many ways to potential do some things, but it is $20 and just not worth it. Now the $1619 issue with UPS yeah!
To me it’s not worth getting a negative review over $20
That is the hard part. It is sometimes just good business MONEY to take it and move on. Thanks for the comment

Bible study is a thing. Love it and hearing everyone’s interpretation of what they get is amazing. Would not write in my family bible but a wide margin is desirable for it.
Thanks for the comment
Great video as always Mike.Question for you can you link Keepa to Ebay and Amazon seller central on a Iphone? Thanks.
I get Keepa using SCOUTIQ and that is about the only way.
I wouldn't do a partial refund. Return it for a full refund. If he actually returned it then relist. Most likely you wouldn't hear from him again.
Thanks for the comment.
Thanks!
I feel like Maple Hill is amazing. Close to the beaches and away from the potential hurricanes. I'm headed there next week. Halloween with the grand kids

This is a bit off topic but can you do a video on shopping the "wall" at Saver's. I look and look and am just overwhelmed with all of it.
The wall is mostly small stuff like calculators, and some other tiny items. Cameras etc. If you find me in the store ask me
I have several Bibles, many different translations, and I do have one study Bible that I highlight and make notes.

The clicking could be indicative of an internal short-protection cut-out thing going on
No he kept it and I refunded $20. I thought the same thing, but those Monster Surge protectors are build like tanks.
I would make them send it back the more we give in the more it will happen. more than not they won't send it back and you won't hear from them again.
Block them and move on. That's all I can do.

yeah its a typical scam. i have had one or two of those in 4 years. I usually tell them to send it back. I have the policy for myself to make them send it back.
I do have that same policy, but this one was all the way out in FLORIDA and I was thinking just move on from this chump.
One of my 1st orders this happened to me and I offered a full refund upon return of the item. He wanted like 10$ and I told him I could do a full refund or nothing and the scammer never sent it back 😅😅
That does happen many times. It's so hard to make the call either way.
I have done just that too. They act to quick giving you an out by cancelling the label.
@@goldenstatepicker so satisfying.
I wish all sellers would stop caving in to these scammers. I'd say return it and if they do oh well but most likely they won't.
I do 95% of the time, but this case is a bit harder to make a decision on.
i got scammed by selling a watch on ebay. Never again!!!
It sucks when something like that happens. Frustrating. Thanks for watching
Great advice, Mike! You're almost to 30k subs! And, yes, I do write in my bible:) Have friends who would never do that though.

Evay will never side with Seller...ive heard it all. Ebay seller for 23 years..Did you ask for a picture of broken item?
Oh well my rims look horrible 😂
the real scammers are ebay themselves with promoted listings, and they are costing all of us far more than a few bad eggs.
Scammers are definitely unfortunate. I don't have nearly as much feedback as you. I still get them here and there. I probably would have responded the same to the buyer. I assume you probably blocked the buyer, just curious if you reported them to eBay?
I do report, I also block, but eBay really does nothing.
Absolutely a scammer
Definitely scammer, I would have made him return it and deduct my original shipping from his refund. If he even returns it.
That's a hard part. Trying to get the shipping. 95% of the times I do have them return it.
$20 was reasonable and just wanted free shipping and that is a very easy scam but KARMA will get them on that one day. I probably would have refund that amount as well for the price of the return would have been the same.
What if you put a video on the listing showing it works? If that went on there when you listed it wouldn’t it show proof it was working?
Certain things are a bit tougher to do video. I should've it would at least not show clicking, but he could've just said during transit.
Mike, I have heard some sellers won't sell to buyers with less than a certain amount of purchases. Have you heard of this?
The reason I asked is because I got scammed by someone with only 4 purchases on his record. Lied about everything regarding the item and Ebay sided with him. He closed his account soon after.
Those are very suspicious. On some larger items I won't.

if rhe buyer claoms some noise would it be possible to ask for a video?

There is security tape you can use. This is just a hard one. You could ask but they probably wouldn't give you a video.
