I think David technically was since Elle met him first, but yes, I love that Emmett genuinely wanted to help her.
I love how genuine Elle is. Instead of just saying “thanks” and turning around, she was honest and said “I’m really glad I met you.” I love how she doesn’t change her amazing and charismatic personality throughout the movie even with all the pressure to fit in. She’s one of my all time favorite characters.
They made film version Elle likable. In the book she was a spoilt brat.

@@sarahxo2317 I agree. Most teen movies make the male love interest do this horrible thing and then the protagonist just forgives him. Legally Blonde doesn’t do this. If they did Elle would get back with Warner. But Elle knew that he never supported her interests and only wanted her for status. He even broke up with her because she wouldn’t be a good look for him. But Emmet loves that Elle is smart, creative, and that she is not afraid to embrace her femininity. He even gets her a pink engagement ring. He is always on her side because he knows that she has great potential.
@@Kylie_h Not to mention (spoilers for LB 2), he was willing to give up his dream wedding venue to marry Elle since she was elsewhere and a little far away from the venue.

What I like about Emmett's character is that he demonstrates the idea that not all law students are full of it with zero personalties.

An example that sometimes a bad event or someone treating you in a bad way might lead to a situation where you meet a good person. You need to keep your spirit up, like Elle did. She still was friendly, polite and kind.

I love how you think Elle is meant to be a misfit but she meets Emmett and he validates her insecurities like she is meant to belong.
I love that Emmett actually gave her advice that proved to helpful later on. There's a scene where Elle manages to outsmart Warner in Callahan's class because she spoke up and shared her opinion, just like Emmett said :)

Elle realized that Warner wasn't worth it in the end. She even told him off that if she's going to have a successful career as a lawyer, she needs a more supportive husband and not a bonehead. This is why Elle chose to give her relationship with Emmett a chance.
I love how in some way Vivian actually lead Elle on the path to meet her future husband ❤

They're so right for each other because Emmett treats her like a real person and when she meets him, she actually drops her act. It's really cool because you get a glimpse of who she really is in this scene.
What I loved most about Emmet when they first met was that he didn’t just ignore Elle. He clearly saw that she was upset and cared enough to ask her if she was okay. He listened to what she had to say and helped her out. He never doubted or judged her despite everything and you can also tell that Elle was genuinely happy to meet him. They truly were made for each other.
I really like how even though he didn't get kicked out of that profs class, he did tell his own experience without being embarrassed by it. She knew someone understood
“But she did make me cry once. I mean, not in class. I waited until I got back to my room.”

It happens, one of my professors at PhD level was really harsh with me on my first semester, so hard that I had to endure the tears until I get home.

interesting detail given he is basicly the only character that does not reacts prejudiced against her . . . he does not really see her before they interact. His first impression of her is simply hearing there is someone distressed and going into comforting mode before she turns around and he actualy sees her, so he was not preexposed to what gives other people assumptions of her, she could have been anyone, just with how this was set up he emcounters her as a person before he could fall into that trap

One thing after rewatching the 🎥 I noticed that makes it work so well. It’s probably a thing everybody thought when it came out. But if her character wasn’t as nice as she is, it could’ve been a disaster. Idk if maybe when Reese got the role the script got retooled or not. But one thing about her that makes her immediately become a character to root for is while she does have rich parents, she is in a sorority (not that it’s a bad thing but obviously some aren’t a fan of sororities nor fraternities) but she’s nice to pretty much everyone. And to those who are nice to her, she helps them as the 🎥 moves along.
So interesting to see how different the film and the musical developed the storyline of Elle and Emmet's relationship. More featured laid back and down to earth character. In the musical when you first meet him, he's very shy but he slowly notices some unique stuff in Elle, builds his confidence, he helps Elle really get SERIOUS, and eventually the romance blooms.
I love how sweet and compassionate she is despite her hard experience
My mother used to watch this all the time. It's definitely a not everyone's cup of tea movie but it is a great example of don't judge a book by its cover.

When Elle told Emmett "I'm really glad I met you!" it was interesting that he responded by saying "hey" while smiling... Was he going to ask her out at that moment or something before Warner showed up?
When you're older, it feels like Anna and Kristoff met at law school. Although, I've seen Legally Blonde a while before Frozen.

Emmet is so goofy in the movie. Emmet is so much better in the musical, honestly.
I like how he’s a more developed character in the musical and his and Elle’s relationship is built up more
He matures throughout the film and in the climax, called Vivian out for her wrongful accusations at Elle. She is shocked by this when Emmett reveals the whole truth about Callahan did in trying to seduce Elle that lead her to quit. Brooke is angered by this and wants revenge against him. Vivian immediately feels guilty over her accusations of Elle using her looks to seduce him to be a part of the legal team. That she has proven that she had deserved to be at Harvard and be a lawyer.
@@ladyfire44 I felt the movie version was just dreadfully boring, throughout. Mostly due to the actors monotone boring voice deliveries, but also because of the way he had his hair styled and some other visual things. Just… uninteresting aura compared to the musical. I even feel the musical version of him was a more realistic portrayal of someone who grew up like he did, and worked his ass off to prove himself, as well as a general law student/TA too.
With the material that Luke Wilson was given, he wasn't happy about it at the time. He wanted to explore more into Emmett's personality since it was he who helped Elle adjust to attending Harvard.
Damn, he's perfect for a prince charming live action movies.
Not gonna lie, they have WAY more chemistry in the musical then in the actual movie!
