2:55 I love how she's clearly nervous when they reveal her new look. The makeover didn't automatically give her new confidence but it did help her self-esteem
I’d love to see a transformation scene like this span out throughout a movie. At the beginning she had bad posture, unkept hair, bad dry skin, calloused hands and feet and throughout the film you see her posture being fixed which assists with her confidence issues, you see her learn how to treat and take care of whatever her hair type may be which makes her hair healthier and gorgeous, you see a proper skin routine which makes her face and body look healthy and rich, and take care of her hands and feet and whatnot. So you don’t just through development into a thirty minute segment.
Watch 'Queen', an Indian movie. It's a comedy that follows a very simple girl's journey to confidence and self-discovery as she goes on a solo honeymoon across Europe.
I was a little girl when I first saw this movie, and I had hair just like hers and I knew even then from experience that no amount of straightening would ever keep it that straight without constant flat ironing or resorting to relaxing it. When she goes to school with the hat on the next day, and she still has perfectly straight hair hidden underneath, is when the movie magic officially stopped because I knew that just wasn’t possible unless she had a stylist constantly following her around with a pair of GHDs. The heat and the friction would have turned her hair, straight or not, into a frizz ball.

I remember telling my parents I didn’t want to wear my glasses anymore, despite me needing them, and stealing my mum’s hair straighteners to get rid of my curls.
Its more the beauty standard, flat hair, clear skin, slim waistline were all things admired back then not as much now and more people are embracing themselves instead of fitting in so that also matters
I agree, natural "frizzy" hair is not ugly and it is wrong to teach kids that glasses are ugly. I remember being crushed & teased when I had to start wearing glasses in about 4th grade because "glasses were ugly". Add acne & braces to that later and it can kill self esteem. In that respect this movie gives girls a very bad message of what beauty is and that nobody pays attention to you until you get pretty and have pretty clothes.
That’s the only thing I didn’t like about this movie they made Anne Hathaway to be this teenage girl with big bushy hair and glasses making it seem like she wasn’t beautiful enough and they had to change her appearance around in order to be accepted and fit in as a princess
To be fair, most movies (cough cough She's All That) just stop at putting a pretty actress in glasses and we're just supposed to assume that she's ugly, but they actually put in the effort to make Anne Hathaway look frumpy and nerdy.
True, this is from like 2001 and if you compare it to mean girls which is just 3 years apart, already mid 2000's, it's a total different vibe, and scenario, in 2001 it was still Gen X vibe, Britney, straightened hair, all cute and perfect, in 2004 it was already millennial territory, more punk/emo Avril Lavigne style, even with the "plastics", they're more punk-ish if you compare them to Anne Hathaway in this movie or anything from late 90s early 2000s
Still my favorite Anne movie because her character's personality remains still golden no matter how she receives the princess glamover.mia still is an extraordinary teenager !

Wish they would have kept Mia’s hair curly and just accentuated it with the right products:( ah yes bless the early 2000s when everyone felt even more like shit about themselves lol
@Kirsty Birsty And in the 80's, huge curly permed hair was all the rage. People with naturally straight hair probably felt shit about themselves. It's just a decade trend though, you're not supposed to take it personally.
@Kirsty Birsty same fine wavy hair 2B waves and some actual curls inbetween. Can't straightened it often. I got a lot of backlash growing up in the 90s/2000s. My mom even got in trouble for not brushing out my curls. It was seen a sign of neglect. And lots of commentary like: oh you built a nest for birds on your head. Even a teacher in school looked at me and said: well your hair doesn't look fresh today. It was washed this morning, but I had no time straightening. I grew up hating my hair, always wanting naturally straight hair. I disliked it for so long I can't start to like it again. My ideal has been thick straight hair and bangs for so long, it will never change probably.
Oh everybody relax. This was a product of it's time. I'm just thankful that we've evolved on our outlook towards beauty and appreciating classics that were very much from a different time.

That’s the only thing I didn’t like about this movie they made Anne Hathaway to be this teenage girl with big bushy hair and glasses making it seem like she wasn’t beautiful enough and they had to change her appearance around in order to be accepted and fit in as a princess
same when i was younger i would straighten my hair repeatedly bcuz of things like this
This will always and forever be iconic
“You broke my glasses!” “You broke my brush” 😭😂😂
I've always wanted to be her in this part lol
Nina Delucca IKE
IKR not IKE
Ikr! Still waiting for my grandmother she's a queen of a foreign country.
Back in the late 90s/early 00s when films would make a beautiful actress 'ugly' by putting her in glasses, then later give her a makeover.
But they still weren't ugly xD
To be fair, most movies (cough cough She's All That) just stop at putting a pretty actress in glasses and we're just supposed to assume that she's ugly, but they actually put in the effort to make Anne Hathaway look frumpy and nerdy.
also straight hair was the hottest thing in fashion
True, this is from like 2001 and if you compare it to mean girls which is just 3 years apart, already mid 2000's, it's a total different vibe, and scenario, in 2001 it was still Gen X vibe, Britney, straightened hair, all cute and perfect, in 2004 it was already millennial territory, more punk/emo Avril Lavigne style, even with the "plastics", they're more punk-ish if you compare them to Anne Hathaway in this movie or anything from late 90s early 2000s
She wasn’t “ugly” though. She just looks frumpy/inelegant.
That moment when Mia's makeover was revealed was an unbelievable WOW!
Still my favorite Anne movie because her character's personality remains still golden no matter how she receives the princess glamover.mia still is an extraordinary teenager !
Remembering that Whitney Houston produced this film makes it even better.
.... Really????
castletriglav wow you're miserable

I like it when the two girls say "a princess"
same
Same.
Same
Beauty or not, Mia turned out to be a great ruler. I love who she grows up to be in the second one
You broke my glasses. You broke my brush. No, you Paulo broke your own brush.
Ikr, a "professional" yet arrogant makeup artist who purposely breaks your glasses without asking you and makes joke is straight up annoying
the eyebrows are named frida and kahlo omg
Any significance cause I don'tget that joke.
Georgia Andrea frida kahlo is a popular mexican painter/artist and she's known for her thick unibrow
coco reference?
Dawn Danielle Nasayao frida kahlo is/was a real person
How did I never catch this?
"My granddaughter, Amelia"
*GASP*!
The most underrated part:
"Like a wolf."
I'm here in 2023. Praying that Julie Andrews stays alive for another 20 years 🥺❣️
Growing up I hated that movie cause it gave the impression that girls with curly hair, glasses and kind of a bubbly personality weren't pretty
Well now it is but back then it was ok but I agree
but her hair is all poofy and frizzy, curly hair by itself is beautiful
I’m sorry but she was NOT pretty
They ARE pretty. They just can't be princesses
I agree with you. I'm in love with curly hair now, and I hate curly hair combing like that in this movie☹
Ah, the early 00s, where the ideal was to have straightened hair and no glasses. At least they didn't give her the horrendous 00s brows :')
I second this
I'd take Frida Kalo eyebrows over no eyebrows any day
What was they thinking
Till this day no one likes to wear glasses and straight hair does look more beautiful...
Still better than caterpillar eyebrows.
@@TheStepmonkey um, that's just you. To each their own. 😂

It’s so satisfying hearing those two girls say “a princess”
AAAHHH!!!! She is gorgeous!
Wish they would have kept Mia’s hair curly and just accentuated it with the right products:( ah yes bless the early 2000s when everyone felt even more like shit about themselves lol
BNO97 ! No thanks lol
what is the movies name btw
It's okay girl. Now curly hair is the trend and everyone tries to have curls. We were just ahead of our time 🤣
@Kirsty Birsty And in the 80's, huge curly permed hair was all the rage.
To this day is till don’t understand how her hair stayed straight throughout the whole second movie.
Patricia Riggs maybe she has got naturally straight hair and they curled it for the movie!
They probably gave her a perm.
Keratin treatments:)
@@VASUNTHARAI anne hatheway was wearing a wig in the beginning.
Royals have hair stylists, you know
I will never forget when I was at the movie's theater with my aunt and cousin, everyone in the theater saw this scene was doing a standing ovation.😂😂
Oh everybody relax. This was a product of it's time. I'm just thankful that we've evolved on our outlook towards beauty and appreciating classics that were very much from a different time.
She just needed a better hair care routine or even another hairstyle, groomed the eyebrows and better glass frames
Royals don’t wear glasses out in public events unless they’re extremely young or in their old age.
@@luxaholicanonymous2577 which is kinda dumb
@@corina.grindeanu why is it dumb? It's traditional
@@winchesterfamilyforever it's dumb to expect everyone to wear contacts especially because you can get eye infections much easier with them. Glasses are good.
@@corina.grindeanu you don't seem familiar with the concept of traditions 😂😂
I'm extra bootyhurt because I have curly hair.
Paolo is dumb. You don't brush dry curly hair. :)
I know right?? What an idiot. Any decent hairstylist would know that
+McKenna♡ its a kids movie get over yourself
+mckennarosebud and you don't tweeze bushy eyebrows, you gotta thread or wax at least. do you know how long and painful that must have been?
KaneboKimberley Jesus Christ. You obviously didn't sense the humor in my comment.
mckennarosebud
too many people whine about the most idiotic stuff in kids movies so i can not sense whenever someone is serious or not just look at the comments on the video lol.
like i know these kind of glow up scenes don't have cute implications but i love this scene so much and i would watch it forever
She is just beautiful.
Behind the scenes, early production
Make up artist: Now, where's the unattractive girl...
**sees the gorgeous Anne Hathaway**
GAHH!
This scene in reverse
Assila 97 🤣👏
I wish instead of straightening her hair they'd have properly moisturised her curls and not made thousands of curly haired girls feel like shit
omg Your overreacting
Straight hair was really in style back then get over yourself...
It's completely fine to look back at this movie and see that this scene was completely toxic and full of prejudice for curly hair and glasses. Good thing we evolved to embrace both.
Curly hair is actually very beautiful
@@Ms_Sanchez01 you are overreacting how about you go back to school sweety she isnt overreacting but expressing her point of view on the video.
Even as a kid, i always loved Mia with the curly messy hair and glasses.
When you realise this was 22 years ago makes you feel old af 😂
