My 1st blood smear was perfect in class, the next 30 slides were horrendous😭. This definitely takes more skill than I thought

So jealous on how you can easily make a perfect blood smear. In my hematology class, I always do a very bad looking smear. I dunno why its so easy when seen but hard when actually performed. But I know I will get used to this when I practice more. Thanks for this tho.

You're welcome. It's all about practice. Also, some blood (anemic or high hematocrit) can be more difficult to makes slides with. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get it right.

thanks for the reply. I do have a question, some blood that I smear results to a lot of holes in my smears, does that mean that the blood of that person has a condition or what?

Nice info on smear techniques! No it isn't necessarily easy, but practice will eventually improve your smears. I was absolutely horrible at the start. Many decades ago was a lab tech in the service. Hematology dept, gave me 50 to 100 slides and blood to practice, eventually near decent at It! Fortunately ended my duty in bacteriology section, more efficient there, Lol! Great info here, pay Attention!

    • @the.mermaid.scientist

Yes, that's correct. And when you get really good, you can use the sides of your spreader slide to make the smear... it took me a couple years heheheh.
