MINDER Then and Now

- Minder was made by Euston Films, which ran from 1979 until 1994, with 108 episodes, with 16.4 million viewers at its peak. Euston filmed in and around London, and its interesting to see how the original locations have changed over the years. Some are the same, whilst others have been re-developed or demolished. This is a video for all the fans of Minder, looking at the titles / credits with a blend of 1979 and 2019.
Love Minder and watch it every day now on ITV4. 1979 back when London was London and the world was normal!
Me too..isn't it annoying when Wednesday's episode was the same one as Tuesday's though..lol
_TOTALLY AGREE, IT'S GREAT TO SEE IT AGAIN, WILL THINK OF YOU WHEN IT'S ON NEXT. (TUESDAY 19TH MAY)_ 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@switchbladeromance1466 _YERR, THEY PUT THE PREVIOUS DAYS EDITION ON IN THE MORNING, AND A NEW ONE IN THE AFTERNOON_ 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@whi5tler_1337 that's Arthur for you 🤣👍
@@whi5tler_1337 I will watch it tomorrow morning..👍👍
Love to go back to 1979/80 and stay there, I was happy then.
Yes agree it was a good time.
Me too
I completely agree life was so much better then. 😌
@@johnrider5701 Agree, John, happy days.
Quite a sad comment in a way, but I know what you mean, there is something about those years.
Minder, Aufedersehn pet and Only fools and horses- we didnt know how good we had it in the 80's!
One of my favorites ever shows growing up as a kid in the 80s, loved the adventures of Arthur Daley and terry,...great writing and wonderful characters filled with humor, drama and dodgy dealings,....it will forever be remembered with warmth and fondness , and a reminder to how great tv shows used to be.....great times
Arthur daley in the leeds liquid gold aderts were brill too
Tv nowadays is complete rubbish, full of pointless contests and overpaid celebs. London also used to be great.
@Red Pilled Fox Nothing would surprise me anymore. I no longer love this country but dont know where to escape to, lol.
Fantastic!!! Fortunately/unfortunately I spend a fair amount of time in the '70s and ' 80s and I absolutely loved Minder. For my sins I used to work at County Hall on London's south bank. George Cole and Dennis Waterman were filming around the corner in York Road so a longer lunchtime than usual was taken while I watched agog. Wonderful.
To everyone who’s watched my video. Such fantastic comments. Thank you all so much. 👍
Minder want the same when Dennis Waterman left.
"Stand on me Terence"! Just.a classic show growing up in the early 80s onwards. Can't believe it lasted that long.
Wtf have they done to London. Shameful. Minder greatest TV show ever.
@Fred Smith many parts of the UK now resemble down town Baghdad. They escape one shit hole only to want to change their new home into the shit hole they escaped from🙄
Nice work, keep them coming. ITV3 has been brilliant weekdays morning. Minder, Sweeney and the Professionals. All filmed in London in the seventies and eighties.
It is ITV4 that shows these and has been showing them repeatedly over the last decade- usually in the afternoon. I watch them for the nostalgia of old London and last week I came across this website with all the locations used in Minder (then and now) after wondering if the location for Goddard's [Ronald Fraser] house in 'Waiting for Goddard' was in Kings Cross: www.minder.org/locations/index2.htm
Im 23 and just started getting into The Sweeney and Minder
I never took to The Professionals - compared to Minder and The Sweeney it seemed very po-faced and grim, like they took themselves far too seriously.
@@Deano14397 ...and the torch is passed on!
Brilliantly done. Nice touch superimposing them onto the latest pics. Gotta Love George Cole
Loved minder,still do,watch the reruns!
This was probably my favourite TV show growing up in the 70s and 80s. Terry Mccann hard as nails.
@Mick Burns Minder & The Sweeney imo. I never took to the Professionals.
"Terry Mccann hard as nails" To begin with, certainly. But the last couple of series he was in, I couldn't help noticing he was never shown getting into punch-ups the way he'd done before. Was that "them upstairs" telling the producers to tone down the violence?
@@Krzyszczynski very true mate! . I bought the dvd box set and as i watched each episode i noticed too that there was less punch-ups with Terry in the later episodes. Still a great tv series though and better than the p.c. crap on telly these days!
Just stumbled on it. Luvly stuff. I still watch it over and over/makes me feel young again. Thank you 👍
Not the same without Waterman. Still watch re-runs. Greetings from a Brit residing in the USA. Thank you.
The Blue Anchor pub in Hammersmith riverside, one of my old favourite haunts back in the day.
I believe it is still there.
Thank you to everyone who has watched the video, and your comments are really appreciated. Please take the time to visit the website Minder.org, to find out all about the show, including the locations.
Brilliant video. There must be so much footage that also didn't make the airwaves.
They use to film Minder and the Bill around our area quite a bit (W10/W11) they filmed in St Helens gardens laundrett for a whole day once but I never saw the episode on telly.
Thanks for the video Lee!. I loved Minder, one of my favourite TV shows. Interesting to see how the filming locations change over time!
Lee, thanks for these videos. I used to live in Acton and would often see them filming the show.
Love minder George and Dennis were amazing loved Arthur Daley antics.
This was an absolutely brilliant show that I still watch to this day, what a duo, timeless hilarious and full of atmosphere 👌👏👏♥️
Never tire of watching Minder & watching the location shots was simply joyful, thanks for posting; deffo made with affection! :)
Loved watching that, guys! Many thanks! Minder will always be one of my favourite TV shows. Very well done. Cheers!
That first metamorphosis from 'Arfurs" second-hand car site into a simple urban modern-day walled front garden is amazing.
'It 'im Tel' ... Beautiful nostalgia, great times, happy happy days , and what a theme tune, up there with the best. Thanks for posting.
Amazing! Thank you for making this!
Thank you for your kind words.
@@leebottomley3007 Yes thanks for doing this. I used to live in Acton, West London in that period and would often see them in the area filming. I also worked at Fullers Brewery in Chiswick and we would often get Euston Films coming into loan beer cases and kegs for use in the Winchester Club.
thanks for putting this together mate. thoroughly enjoyed it.
That was Brilliant! Thank you!!
I really enjoyed watching this. Well done in finding these locations. Brilliant.
I once wrote an episode of Minder, it was the one where Arthur said "I've got a little job for you Terry" to which Terry replied "Will this job involve me getting into a spot of bother with the law, then a lovely girl falling for me, then I get beat up by a gang of thugs, then you not playing me my wages". "Yes Terry". "Well in that case I will do it then".
All sorted out after a few sherberts in the winchester.....on the slate dave.....
Thats fascinating actually. You wrote an episode ? How did that come about ?
@@dickweeeeeeeeeed Busy lad was our Dave. In between Doling out ammo at Rorke`s drift, he managed to run the Winchester!!😂
Great vid, thanks for posting.
Loved this programme about London and the almost innocents of the episodes , compared to the crap that's on today...we talked about it all day in school after each episode. Even the theme song just lifts my spirit. Well done putting this together.
Miss the sweeney, minder,professionals...Great British TV, as was top of the pops...this coming from an Irish man who wished he could go back to the 80s ...just for a day..be well everyone 👍
Great job lads 👍
Thanks very much lovely photos now and then

This is excellent work, loved it, but it also felt sad that some places have gone.
This I amazing thanks for this 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
_THANKS FOR MAKING THIS, HAVE SUBSCRIBED NOW._ 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Minder was one of the best Series the BBC ever created and i also love Dennis Waterman’s brilliant vocals
It wasn't on the BBC.
I used to love Minder as a kid, but as an adult I now realise that implausibly Dennis Waterman would often be beating up guys half his size in the show, and bedding more women than James Bond.
Excuse me....would you mind moving that Ford Capri off my front garden.
Do what?
Hit 'im Terry
Fantastic!!
My mate worked as an extra on the show & was often seen in the background at The Winchester Club. These scenes were shot at a studio in Park Royal, NW10.
An extra on the show. . . Drinking in the Winchester club. How lucky is that.
@@leebottomley3007 The Equity rate at the time for a non speaking extra was £100 per day. The beer you see the actors drinking was real! He got into the business by working as a film unit driver & eventually drove for Roger Moore during the making of The Saint & Persuaders.
Thanks Lee.
One of my happiest ever experiences was visiting the Blue Anchor by Hammersmith Bridge on a glorious day last summer (I knew of it from New Tricks - only just realised it features in the credits of Minder). We had a lovely lunch outside (in that very spot where Terry and Arthur sit) and the beer was to die for. We don't live in London but love visiting places of note like this when we do travel. Hopefully we'll make a return visit to the Anchor this year.
Love it! Great visual overlaps, and good to hear the theme tune in its entirety. Well done guys 🍻
Hi, thanks for your kind words. Have a great day
Great vid. Still watching in 2021 😁
I loved that show and I love the then and now ... even though I don't know those places in London its good to see them now ... well done!.
Excellent job. Well done!
Hi John, thank you for your comments. Have a great day 👍
Very good! Cheers Lee!
Thankyou, very good 👍👍
No lash-up, love how you put work in to keep the angles and perspectives spot-on. Took real effort, and makes it. Well done.
Brillian vid, well done :)
Lovely British TV show that still makes me smile today in 2021
Cheers lads good to see this👍👍
Great job..well done ✅
Amazing how many supporting actors/actresses from The Sweeney also popped up in Minder several years later.
Nicely done
Quality mate the best way to remind me of home

I didn't know I was looking for this,until I found it👍👍👍👏👏👏😁😁😁...well done those men.

To all the Minder fans out there. Thought you might like to know about an excellent book. It’s called . . . The phenomenon that was Minder. Written by Brian Hawkins. It was published by ink stone books in 2002. It’s a complete guide to the show. Everything you that ever need to know. Definitely worth buying, and adding to your collection. Have a great day. 👍
Great upload Lee.. how's your minder trivia knowledge? Two actresses who played Terry's long term girlfriend's, penny the air hostess (gennie nevinson) and debbie the stripper (diana malin) appeared in 4 and 5 episodes..but only 1 episode together..can you name the episode..I give you a clue..the story revolved around an animal?
Hi Matthew, Is it the episode when they had to get the bull from the field ? I remember the time when Penny and Debbie met in Terry’s flat. Very awkward. Penny was always the upper class one, but I really liked Debbie. Would have been interesting if Terry had to choose one or the other.
@@leebottomley3007 spot on mate!!!. A lot of bull and a pat on the back..1980..yeah penny was lovely but prim and proper..debbie was just..well..sex!!!..gorgeous both of em!!!.cheers mate.
Cheers Matthew. Have a great day. 👍
@@leebottomley3007 just been on minder.org..Brill cheers mate have nice night.
What goes around comes around for Denis Waterman. The Blue Anchor (1.20) by the Thames near Hammersmith Bridge is almost next door to the Rutland Arms and that was a favourite location in many episodes of New Tricks
Only 1 Minder & that's Tel fackin legend 👍🍺🍀
i grew up Hammersmith saw filming of minder . sweeney and proffesionals..im 56 now..
Great stuff
Not entirely filmed in *Greater London* and surrounding areas.
Series 8 episode 7 titled *A Bird in the Hand is Worth Two in Shepherd's Bush* was partly filmed in *Bradford.*
You can see the exterior of the *The Ring O Bells* now known as *Bolton House* at *18 Bolton Road, Bradford.* Roughly 30 metres away from the main entrance to the grounds of *Bradford Cathedral.* It's possible they filmed the interior scenes in there too, but as I haven't been in that former pub in my life, I'll have to compare photos online.
You can see an aerial shot of *Kirkgate* the street starting at *Barclays Bank* heading towards *Kirkgate Shopping Centre* which is also on *Kirkgate* the street. It looks to have been taken from whatever building used to be next door to *The Midland Hotel,* but it's that long ago now I can't remember what was on that side of road other than some youth career advice place on the ground floor. Plus there was never any need to go over there anyway when all the shops were on the opposite side of the road.
You can see various shots of *Bradford Forster Square* railway station. The side towards *The Broadway Bradford* and *The Midland Hotel* has been turned into a car park, a recently demolished *Royal Mail sorting office,* and a recently closed *HM Revenue and Customs Office.* However the main *Bradford Foster Square* railway station building and the tracks going towards *Forster Square Retail Park* still exist today, and will soon be expanded and redeveloped.
Wow!! Great detail thanks!!!!! N
@@michael5089 It was one of just a few productions I found out about from the *Bradford - City of Film* team on their *Bradford Film Heritage* website.
I seem to know more about my city's films, TV shows and film locations than they do, as there's loads of stuff missing from their website which I will be revealing to them eventually when I get a job and start my own blogs about *Bradford's* famous people, places and things, and a second blog dedicated to *Bradford's* films, TV shows and film locations.
They only mentioned one of the locations in *Minder* on their website which was *Bradford Forster Square* railway station, which used to be bigger than it is now, but as usual there was more. Not much more however as the others were only short shots, but the point still stands.
For example I've just started watching *The Last Tango in Halifax* recently, and I noticed the *Cow and Calf Rocks* on *Ilkley Moor, Ilkley, Bradford* appeared in a scene in series 1, yet *Bradford Film Heritage* only noticed it appear in series 5.
I also noticed a pub I had been in as a kid or a teenager in series 4, which I also noticed appeared in one or two episodes of *The Royal,* but I didn't know what it was called until now. I thought it was somewhere near *Bingley, Bradford* next to the *Leeds and Liverpool canal* but it's actually in *Shibden, Halifax* next to the *Shibden Brook canal,* and has been voted the *Best Pub in Yorkshire* before. I can now add it to *IMDB* now I know what it's called and where it is.
Talking of *The Royal,* it used at least 5 *Bradford* locations including the interiors for the hospital which were in every single one of the 87 episodes, yet *Bradford Film Heritage* only mention 2 of those 5 *Bradford* locations.
I've just finished series 4 of *The Last Tango in Halifax* which consists of just a couple of Christmas episodes. However I expect as the headteacher Caroline moved to *Huddersfield* in series 4, it'll be more likely that there will be more *Bradford* locations in series 5, than just *Ilkley Moor,* so I'll be keeping my eye out when I watch the rest tonight.
Great job ! But also sad as well
The summer of 1979 me and my mate walked past George and Dennis sitting outside the Greek restaurant on Crouch Hill.
The days before cameras on mobile phones. That’s an amazing memory to keep, the fact you saw them. Thanks for watching my video.
@@leebottomley3007 Your welcome Lee.
My late father Rex Hobbs was the property master on this great programme and he told me it was a pleasure to go to work with George Cole and Dennis Waterman.
@John Saunders George Cole played the spiv part very well but he was not like that at all - in fact he was quite a toff.
Brilliant that, cheers 👍
I immediately loved Minder when I watched ether first episode as a 14 yes road in Oct. 1979!
Awesome ..love it..here's to Terry and Arthur ..kings among men..
I'm always late to the party ..... that theme tune just is so cheery .... loved minder and Arfur

Well this was way before I was around ! I have seen a few episodes of 'Minder' and enjoyed it. Very London, and that's cool, but it'd have worked quite well if it had continued with Dennis and George in New York for a few episodes. And back to London. Could have continued much longer. Classic characters. Stefanie, 12
